Great video. I have one not on this list: Armalite AR-180 A (Sterling). Stamped steel, and like others you covered with internal recoil springs, it has a folding stock. Extremely reliable, shoots both 5.56 and .223. Negatives: It's heavy and magazines are difficult to find. Cheers!
I own 2 mini-14's, taught 3 generations to shoot with them, iron sights only. I may not win a sniper competition but it will throw brass at your neighbor's wife and run anything. Awesome weapon platform. Practice is all you need to do
10:21 A couple of points on the mini 1. Low sight over bore axis. The mini is 1" vs the AR is 2.5" -- Point of aim is point of impact. -- _surprisingly_ smaller silhouette presented to the target. _^^People rarely discuss exposure to the target nowadays, similar to the old bladed stances, or 20 round mags while prone, shooting from cover, etc^^_ 2. Weapon retention techniques are easier with sporting stocks. Not exclusive to the Mini, but worth noting for its intended application.
The problems with the Sig MCX Virtus are higher recoil than the AR15 (noticeably more not marginally more), the extra 1.5 pounds, the weight is out front due to the piston which is the worst place for weight, the charging handle and safety selector are rough to use (for the $2k they should at least be smooth). There are positives to the platform but it seems no one ever discusses the negatives.
As always entertaining, concise, personally researched, and informative. I am withholding any Jerry Miculek related comments since I know you would "get some" if you didn't have to work full time as well. Definitely one our best firearm reviewers. Keep up the good work we appreciate it.
@@servicerifle16 I've seen those but i thought they were from American volunteers.....which in hindsight i guess would have been a source for the Mini 14 too.....
I absolutely love my MCX, I agree with it being number 1. Yes it is front heavy and that needs to be worked on but it's absolutely wonderful. It is a sub moa gun and I know there were issues at first but Sig seems to have worked that out. I will ding it for not being fully ambi because I like to practice left hand shooting and it infuriates me that the new Switch blade m400 is. and it was not fully supported with all the extra that Sig promised. But still excellent gun hope I can get the spear soon.
I think the Ruger American Ranch is a pretty cool bolt alternative.. More accurate than all of these, takes ar mags, easy to mount optics and it's light as all hell... Plus it's only a few hundred bucks.

I'd still have to bypass the Sig MCX and go with the CZ Bren 2 as the #1 pick. Just my opinion...
So a budget scar....smart
Great video. I have one not on this list: Armalite AR-180 A (Sterling). Stamped steel, and like others you covered with internal recoil springs, it has a folding stock. Extremely reliable, shoots both 5.56 and .223. Negatives: It's heavy and magazines are difficult to find. Cheers!
And it’s the only rifle to have an Irish rebel tune written about it.
That George Michael beard is tight
😂😂😂
You did a better job than I putting this list together. I'd love a round two.
Its alright James, it was hard for me to grow my first beard in high school too
Love Old Glory in the background right next to the BBQ. Thanks for the good work.
James Im still waiting on that top 5 tactical shorts with room for your weapon and a edc pistol video.
Another great video, as always great info to jam in our heads when we go to the local gun shop wanting even more rifles.
“They make it watch Titanic”
Maddox lost
I hate the fact that when Reeves comes out with a new video, my wife wants to watch it with a glass of wine.
I've been waiting for you guys to put out a gun video!!! Getting my fix, lol...
"At least when their sober". A true statement, we get beer when on deployment. "2 cans per man per day"
I own 2 mini-14's, taught 3 generations to shoot with them, iron sights only. I may not win a sniper competition but it will throw brass at your neighbor's wife and run anything. Awesome weapon platform. Practice is all you need to do
10:21 A couple of points on the mini
1. Low sight over bore axis. The mini is 1" vs the AR is 2.5"
-- Point of aim is point of impact.
-- _surprisingly_ smaller silhouette presented to the target.
_^^People rarely discuss exposure to the target nowadays, similar to the old bladed stances, or 20 round mags while prone, shooting from cover, etc^^_
2. Weapon retention techniques are easier with sporting stocks. Not exclusive to the Mini, but worth noting for its intended application.
"...MCX is the AR-15 but perfected."
Me, knowing the HK416 exists since 2004: .__.
claude?
Using a Galil to open a Topo Chico, I love it!
I also noticed the yuengling in the background, must be in a state that sells it :(
Good stuff
The problems with the Sig MCX Virtus are higher recoil than the AR15 (noticeably more not marginally more), the extra 1.5 pounds, the weight is out front due to the piston which is the worst place for weight, the charging handle and safety selector are rough to use (for the $2k they should at least be smooth). There are positives to the platform but it seems no one ever discusses the negatives.
Thank you for showing proper respect to the mini 14. I appreciate that.
As always entertaining, concise, personally researched, and informative. I am withholding any Jerry Miculek related comments since I know you would "get some" if you didn't have to work full time as well. Definitely one our best firearm reviewers. Keep up the good work we appreciate it.
22:18 "and that gun, is the..." here it comes, he's about to say it, here we go, CZ Bren 2 - wait WHAT?
Had no idea the Mini 14 was used in Rhodesia.
Small numbers of M16s and Colt SP1s were used as well, where the Rhodies got them 🤷♂️
@@servicerifle16 I've seen those but i thought they were from American volunteers.....which in hindsight i guess would have been a source for the Mini 14 too.....
Also the troubles, the IRA had them
Were slowly getting close to magnum pi James reeves edition and I am here for it
Always a Good Friday when we get to see J.J.R discuss his favorite side triggers 🌽
James, you made me a happy man today when I realized I'm not the only one who uses the word "eschew" (22:44).
I have that very Mini 14 in that very folding stock. I love it.
The sideplate mounted dovetail for the Mini-14 is a really nice system. Holds zero well and is a quick disconnect for easy storage
As someone who just spent $3900 on a scar 16 as a pandemic panic buy that I had to put on a credit card, I'm offended that it didn't make this list.
You NAILED it! The MCX is the AR grown up and with a master's degree. (PhD degrees only go to laser/directed energy ray guns.)
Top 5 308's ?
There are times when you just crack my ass up, this is one of those presentations! Keep on chooglin'
James, I think you missed mentioning the Robinson XCR. Just sayin'.
Yeah I was really expecting it on the list or at least an honorable mention.
This has become my favorite gun channel on RUclips.
That SBR’d PS90 in the background looking 🔥🔥🔥
Jimmy, you won't get any judgement here...we're moppin' up what yer spillin' *wink* *wink* 😉
Lol I honestly haven’t heard that one before….
I think the Ruger American Ranch is a pretty cool bolt alternative.. More accurate than all of these, takes ar mags, easy to mount optics and it's light as all hell... Plus it's only a few hundred bucks.
