I love short form content but it almost gets a little too repetitive. Long form content can be repetitive but it’s a lot easier to find unique styles. Long form will forever be my favorite

I hate how much of my time it wastes, I watch like an hour of shorts every time before I go to sleep and end up going to sleep at 3am. Also most short form content is cut from long form content. Long form content is going no where, and I'm trying to watch less short form content.

I've always felt that short form is the fast/junk food of online content. Instant but short lived gratification without much substance or benefit. Most of the creators I follow and value their content are ones that are primarily or exclusively long form.

Long form is how I learn new stuff. Sometimes it's for fun, but mostly educational. At least for me...

Hi there. I'm new to your channel and before I tackle the topic of short v. long form I want to say that I really like the way you handle your jump cuts (over the couple of videos I have watched.) They seem much less distracting than other creators. Your subtle zooms and punch ins seem to do the trick.
I come from a Community TV / Long form background. Aside from Cat videos, I am finding that some of the short form content that I watch really makes me want to move over to find their long form content. I see it used very well as a 'Trailer' in a sense.
Artist and Craftspeople I think are in a unique spot where short form videos can really benefit them possibly more than long form. Sure, I enjoy watching process videos, but take print making for example, I've seen 100's of people carve things and we don't need to spend the hours watching it every time before they pull a print. If there is a technique the artist uses they can highlight - that'd be great. Some wood workers I think are embracing short form for quick tips, and long form to expand on them and show larger projects.
In the end, I think you hit the nail on the head in that successful content creators will need to continue to embrace both long and short form content.

I never really liked short form content on Tiktok, Instagram, and YT shorts from the get-go, and mainly because of the obnoxious music a lot those have, the too-tall 9:16 aspect ratio and outright hostile treatment of horizontal content, the borderline force-feeding curation methods, and the overemphasis on quantity, among others.

The title of your video has "END" in capital letters in it, and 5 minutes in you say " I don't think it's the end of short form content"...
Talk about click bait! You got me there sir. You got me. That is the exact reason why I don't commit to most creators on RUclips. I personally disagree with you about click bait in short form content though. I see more click-baity titles on RUclips than anywhere else on the internet. If I watch a reel on IG, or whatever, I don't even need the titles, I see a person, some gear, or whatever, I let it play. If I don't like the first 3sec, I can scroll or get out of there.
On RUclips, I have to listen or watch a video for longer (like here 5 minutes) to know I don't agree, or don't like that video, which I personally perceive as a big waste of time (like me on your video). So most of the time I don't subscribe even if I liked it, just not worth it.
Also, I don't think short videos are going anywhere, people are getting more creative and more addicted by the day. Same for long form content, people just have to wisely chose how they want to spend their time.
There, your click-baity title made me write a 1000 word comment, you got me sir, you got me! But just this one time.

    • @AnthonyGugliotta
      @AnthonyGugliotta  Год назад

Fair points, and thanks for sharing. Click-bait is definitely prevalent in long videos as well, and I'm definitely guilty of doing it. It's almost necessary at this point. Videos need to have something enticing to get viewers to stick around. Come to think of it, the same applies to TV, movies and pretty much any form of media! You need to keep the audience engaged!

I find metrics with short form video to be way inconsistent.
One video can get 100k views and the next gets 200. At least with longform it can somewhat stay consistent.
That aside I think due to the nature of smartphones short-form content is here to stay. Thst being said it is maturing where it isn't going to be like it has been. Like you said, users are becoming more picky about what they consume in terms of short-form. In a way you could say viewers are always evolving in how they consume content.
Also I have to mention that I found you on TikTok and it was only after quite some time of seeing your content pop up on my FYP regularly that I eventually subscribed to you here on RUclips.

Some messages work better short form. Some messages work better long form.
I prefer long form but I also hate long form videos where the creator draaaaaaags one simple point out for 11-22 minutes.
I don't like short form much, but I do like short form videos that have a simple point, get to it in one video, and bounce.
For example, some camera skill creators like (PMcKinnon) have a simple point to communicate but make great long videos about them because they layer humanity and related ideas into the video. I like that. Some camera skill creators also have shorts that help beginners understand simpler concepts or workflows. Gives you a fast answer without having to watch or scroll a long video to get there.
EDIT: I guess my point is that it depends on the creator's intention. If the intention is to sell and hook and retain and hit numbers, people will get sick of that shit fast. If you're deciding on the form your video takes based on what's most helpful or enjoyable to others, that's different. That's better.

    • @AnthonyGugliotta

Absolutely great take! I started my channel right before short form became popular, and one of the biggest things I noticed was the fact that some 11+ minute videos really do drag on longer than necessary. Lately, I've been trying to provide as much value or "thoughtfulness" inside my content, in order to avoid the feeling that a video is dragging on too much.

The SFC creators who use titles as "Click Bait" and the content either has nothing to do with the title or the content is just a vehicle for the creator to try to get others to watch their 'man-made institutionalised superstition' cult krap... I'm ok with short form content , I'm not ok with what has become of it.
If they were made to convey a simple message fine, but it's attentions grabbing and overtook everything else , I find it gross ..
Facebook/ instegram / youtube's war with ticktok caused damage to the attention span on people.
Hope most if not all of this will die soon, and we go back to having the ability to consume quality content (then again who knows what's next)
Granted , facebook started it all with their likes system , and searching for that instant confirmation.
Kinda miss the times before social networks , where you didn't have to worry about followers , likes, algorithms , you just live.. miss it badly.
But we are at a point of no return, what an annoying time to be alive....
