  • 75 years after the end of the BERLIN AIRLIFT, Germany remembers at the biggest humanitarian air transport operation of the world at Wiesbaden-Erbenheim Army Airfield at June 16th 2024.
    One unique part of the „Operation Vittles“ was the idea of Colonel Gail Halvorsen, pilot on a Douglas C-54, drop candys on self made small parachutes from his aircraft during his final approach at BERLIN-TEMPELHOF airport. Soon other pilots copied his idea to supply children at the fence at TCA, Tempelhof Central Airport by throwing sweets on parachutes from their aircraft, the operation „Little Vittles“ was born and one important part of the Berlin Airlift!
