Just to add to this concept: Z axis up makes more sense if you look at it as though you're literally drafting at a desk. On your drawing X goes left to right and Y goes forward and backward. If you want to add depth to your drawing, you must add a Z axis, which is meant to represent up and down.

Awe yes , I was wondering about that and why the Z axis wasn't on the top.
Thanks for clearing it up for me.👍

QUESTION: What does the right mouse button do? I click not on an object but the BG and I drag and get a squiggly line. I can't figure out what the purpose is. I googled. It would be nice if you rotated the view etc. Thanks.

Oh my God, Great question and thank you for answering it Lars. I’m new to Fusion and like to think I’m a logical guy but could never understand why it was set up that way. Thank you, Eric

Good explanation with the historical references. I think the reference to grid paper makes sense. Maybe, if in doubt, just communicate which axis is up in a drawing? I know, totally old fashioned / old school.

@Lars Christensen For mill work you need Z up BUT when you are working with a lathe you need Y up as X is tool moving in and out and Z is the tool moving along the bed and Y is the rotation angle.

True! But CAM software has always given you the option to adjust that. Because the CAD systems were stuck with this whole default Front Plane default

Been using Autocad since r12 and vertical Z has always made sense.

Z is the spindle in all CNC machines and that is way Z is in eye view.

Is there a way in fusion to show a section view, like a transmission with the case being sectioned, but the internal gears stay unsectioned and disappear as you get past them as you continue to advance through assembly?

Just as an info: Z is always up and down in Germany and most of the EU. Same with the metric system. So great job! And thank you very much for all of your videos! Please try to continue when you can, even with your 'new' position. - Thank you!
