This device has been a life saver!!!! My buddy and I who have been writing music together for 6 years, we both have this device. I ended up moving to India a couple years ago, and I am still living here. In the past year he has been recording his guitar and keyboard parts (back in the US). He then mixes and masters them down, sends them to me, and I then import it into my tascam and record my vocal and flute parts, then a final mix and master. We have written an entire 12 album across the globe so far in this way. Now we are recording these songs in two different studios across the globe 😅 but its turning out great! This tascam is a hell of a writing tool and great for demo quality recordings!
I could not figure this out from the instructions. I know it was operator failure but without this video I never would have got there. I use the DP-008 for songwriting because the batteries allow me to work anywhere I want to. When the time came to export songs I was at a loss until I found this video. Thank you so much for all these Tascam videos. You're a good man.
The In/Out and Mixdown mode are not well explained in the instructions manual. This video helped me understand mixdown mode and how to then Master a track after recording.
I was so intimidated by this Tascam thing I just looked at it for weeks. Then I decided to just forge ahead and watch some of these RUclips vids. Lucky I ran into yours. This was another great lesson. So simple to follow in plain language. I now feel in just watching a few of your videos, I'm all set to go. Stunning!
THANK YOU!!!!!! I was two steps from throwing this thing out a window when I thought "I'll watch this tutorial first and see if I'm missing anything." The manual doesn't tell you that you have to save/export the master!!!!!! *Now* I'm excited to use the DP-008EX to record some demos and goof around with it, thank you so much for this video!!!!!!
I keep coming back to this particular video of yours lol. But I've learned to love the Tascam-008EX. It's not very intuitive, and there was a huge learning curve. But these videos definitely helped. And I personally appreciate your tutorials.
This thing is so versatile. I had the DP--03SD for years and loved it. Before that I had the Tascam DP-01 which I also loved. I've never even tried another brand of DAW so perhaps I'm missing out on some things, but I swear this machine with a good condenser mic and phantom power performs with amazing results!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. I am sure there is a reason Tascam did this but I am not too sure why we have to listen to the music again while we are mixing down, etc. I just wish there was an option where you can export the current recordings as a wave/mp3, etc. without having to listen to the whole thing (in case you left recorder on and just wanted to export it all to wave/MP3,etc.). Once again THANK YOU!
Upgraded to the DP03,mix/mastered eq'd, compressed etc, exported wav file.Sounds awesome.Sometimes I swear Dawless recording is where its at.No endless menu diving, plugins everywhere and computer/software issues to deal with.Oh yeah and staring at a screen all day gets exhausting.Actual hardware and textile feel while monitoring makes more sense and seriously music gets done more efficiently and faster.🗽♥️📼🎧
My DP-008 is impossible to 'STOP' when I hit the stop button. (after Ive recorded numerous tracks) It ONLY stops when the line appears under the 00:00:00:00 section. I hit stop and rewind at the same time, just stop etc...It takes about 20 times before the LINE appears, THEN it stops. Any advice to troubleshoot that?
No idea, it I’m glad you mentioned it….I don’t want to trick myself into thinking these things are trouble free. Sounds like a problem that drives you bonkers and no help is at hand..you end up discouraged and doing your taxes instead.
I didn't have an answer for you, still don't really, but I was just having a similar issue. I would stop a song and attempt to move to another operation and the Tascam would give a "Not Stopped" error. I absolutely had it stopped, no counter, back to zero. I couldn't even do a proper shut down and finally just pulled the plug. When I plugged it back in and booted it up it was fine. Weird.
Can you continue to use the same recordings after mixiing down/mastering the files.? Can I reload them and they say add a horn ow whahaver to a previously mixed file then remix , remaster and export or would I have to recreate the whole thing?
Please help. When I go into mastering mode, I cant change the output volume. When I choose auto, and natural sound. The sound gets so loud from my monitors and none of the volume knobs will turn it down. When I recorded my beat, all knobs worked, and i recorded it just under peaking levels. Once it's in master I cant turn the volume down on the unit.
Hi - first of all THANK YOU!! I have an issue? I followed the steps but when we got to the “export” it said it could not find the master ?! Any idea what I did wrong? Thank you again!!
I've also been learning how to work this amazing tiny thing! I want to create a few songs , then put them in my computer and then from wav, hopefully to mp3 and then a cd. I did create a song and had it on 5 different tracks. After mixdown, I didn't quite get it. Every time I listened to it back it did not sound right. I kept going over it (recording again and again in mixdown) You were saying you can only do it once?? Please help as I did not want to go to master until I knew I had this done. I hope you check these comments. I read the instructions and they call the mixdown a "stereo master track". They say you hear the recording when you play it back, but it seems to me, I heard it back one time and then maybe when I tried to re-do it, because I didn't like the vocal, I just kept putting it back and pressing record and play again. The first playback the vocals were way too loud! I didn't hear it like that when I was mixing it. Maybe you have to shut all the "levels down when you play it back???? HELP???? My name is Joyce Milberg and I am on FB. You can IM me and I'll give you my phone number. I hope you check out your youtube channels often. The last person to write, wrote a YEAR AGO!!! These songs are part of a play I'm writing. If you could contact me soon, I would appreciate it. Meanwhile, I'll try to go into mixdown again, you know, get out of it and then back in?? Hope to hear from you.
Being able to EQ during a mix down is still a question. I did not see you do much with EQ when setting up the mix. Seems the unit only allows EQ during input???
After mastering to a wave file on the do-008ex I don’t have a card reader on my computer and prefer to not take sd card in and out all the time. Can I just connect the Dp-008ex to my computer via an usb cable and have the Dp-008ex show up like a thumb drive would on my pc?
@@StudioonaStick Thank you for your reply, but I don't see those options anywhere in menu. Why would the people that design this make a simple playback challenging?
Can you master it more than once? For example, if you choose natural, but want to to hear the maximum, can you choose maximum after you've ready mastered in in Natural?
I have a question for anyone who might be able to answer..... I recorded my track into the 008ex. Used good quality cables, and set the level knobs slightly past halfway. I mixed down the track and then mastered it. When I sample the auto master (natural sound and maximum), there is a prominent, audible buzzing sound. When I toggle the auto mastering off, i don't hear the buzz, but when it's on, the buzz is there. I double checked my cables and volume levels, but it's not clipping or anything. Anyone have any ideas?
Hey! I'm a big fan of your channel and I'm a recent owner of Tascam Dp-008EX. However, I have huge problems with how my masters come out. They sound disorted. I have read the manual from cover to cover but thought I would consult the expert himself. Can it be as simple as too low gain settings? Or am I doing something else wrong? Grateful for answers! Apologies for incorrect writing. Greeting from Sweden!
Usually distortion is caused by too high of gain. But noise can also be brought up with gain too low. It's hard to say without seeing your whole recording process, but maybe the mastering is over accentuating some frequencies. Are you using the Auto selection when you master and if so, which type are you choosing?
@@StudioonaStick Hey! and thanks for the feedback. I use the Aston Origin microphone. The settings I have used are set to the option high in the input settings at the moment but I have tested low and mid as well. In the mastering itself, I use natural sound, but still it sounds to disorted. I have recently ordered monitors, hopefully it will be easier to mix then. The sound out in the headphones I have at maximum volume, this may be wrong? I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Tascam makes amazing products no doubt! You make great tutorials!
Btw you can export the mixdown as the master in the options, without actually mastering the song. Needed to do this today to send a mate my rough demo
Just wondering. I mixed down and then mastered it but forgot to export the master, if i re mixdown and remaster the song what will happen?

That's correct.
Thanks.... Dp-008ex must be powered up. It will display “USB”
Then you can see the wave files and copy them.....
Yes this will work. The mastered tracks will show up under a folder called WAV once you plug it in with usb into your computer.
Thank you Big time coder. The Manuel is hard to understand.
can you help me please i have done the recording but its say no master track, i used track one youtube backing track, sorry my english
No problem, the file must be in 16 bit 44.1khz WAV format.
Thank you for this!!!!!

Can someone help me with this question?
How do you listen to the mix down once it has been mastered and exported to the SD file?
In the menu, go to sd play mode, choose the song and play.
It will play out of channels 21 an 22, so set them to mtr.

Is it possible to transfer, for example 8 guitar tracks, to a computer program (e.g. audacity) and continue working on these 8 tracks there?
Yes it is. Record the tracks, export them, transfer to storage and import them to any daw.

To play a master back: load the song, set mode to mastering, play the stereo master
