Touareg is a completely different type of vehicle. It's bottom up a high quality, high performing truck. The Atlas is a cheap 3 row meant to complete with other suburban kids shuttles like a Honda Pilot, Chevy Traverse, and Ford Explorer. They're not even in the same universe.
Nate your so right man. When the Atlas first came out I was a bit blown away by the excitement of this vehicle, but now all of that has worn off and yes its cheaply built to get the price lower to compete with the brands and models you mention. Touareg is more along the lines of a BMW, Benz, Audi, Porsche etc...
Touareg is so classy in Executive trim. The new Touareg is still available in Germany and beautiful. I got a BMW because I couldn’t get a 2019 Touareg.
As the proud owner of a hybrid Touareg I have to say no doubt the Touareg is a whole lot better than the Atlas. The new 2018 Touareg is even better but only available in Europe sadly we are stuck with only the Atlas in the states.
50,000 usd is $350,000 dollars where I live but if you walk in the vw showroom they want $700,000. If people could of get a Touareg for $350,000 my whole country would be driving that
Touareg every single time. The higher quality interior, superior chassis and special looks are what make this a real understated luxury SUV. The Atlas feels like plastic....Also the fact that it's a REAL "German" built not Mexico-Built Volkswagen makes the Touareg that much unique than the rest of the American line up. I'm going to his this great vehicle. PS...I love my Volkswagen CC....haha! Also built in Germany!
Sam Adrien Toureg is built in Slovakia 🇸🇰!!! And VW Atlas is built in USA 🇺🇸!!!. There is no car built in Germany or Mexico!!!. Atlas is made for bigger families and Toureg for smaller families and it’s more luxurious 😁
Touareg all day long. Proud owner of 2016 VW Touareg Executive. I drive Atlas couple times while my car was at service and Atlas is just another cheap, low quality SUV. I agree with most of the comments, it’s impossible to compare this two cars.
The Touareg comes with dynamic light assist which is a tech feature that doesn't blind oncoming vehicles going down the road and is found in most luxury cars, the Atlas has no such technology and just has led lighting that turn on and off.
I've got a 2012 Executive which has the 20" wheels. I drove a Sport before I bought the Exec, and the Sport's 18" tires definitely improve the ride on sharper low speed bumps. My wife insisted on leather seats and the panoramic sunroof, so I ended up with the Exec (and have been really pleased with it).
Although I like the Toureag, the Atlas with SEL Premium would be my pick. It has many features and 90% of the luxury to keep up with a Toureag, and I more practical for family use as it has seven seats vs five. However if I could I would take the Toureag with TDI V8 torque monster like they had in Europe ,such an awesome car but the Toureag luxury feel as it was based on the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7 chassis sure will be missed.
That question is an insult to every Touareg owner. Really? Touareg is in another category. Think X5, Q5, Q7....Basically think cars that cost 10-15k more.
Great comment Kyle Robinson. I was not really trying to insult Touareg owners and I'm sure you understand that. I surly have learned that most people that have driven Touareg's seem to not like the ATLAS at all. Last month I filmed a 2016 Touareg TDI Premium with R Line package. I was really blown away by how much nicer that 2016 was over a 2018 Atlas. The fit and finish is hands down better and the materials they use on the Touareg feel so much like higher quality. When I made this video last year almost around this time I was really excited about the Atlas considering it just came out, but after spending over 10 months with Atlas's and Touareg's I really do understand the difference now alot more. I wish VW would offer us that new Touareg I'm seeing in the UK, but I can only assume they don't want it to effect Audi sales here in America so they give us this Atlas instead.
I was only kidding. I looked at the Atlas and was thoroughly disappointed. In Europe VW brand is equal to Audi or BMW. The performance and quality are there. In America Audi and BMW have higher status and Americans like status symbols. In Germany you can get a loaded out v8 twin turbo diesel touareg for about 100k. It is not an economy brand in EU or the rest of the world for that matter. The biggest drawback is buying a car that cost 3x an average VW at a VW dealership. Audi and BMW dealerships were better in every way. The other drawback was most VW techs in my area did not know how to service them. The 3 dealers sold about 6 a month combined. Getting rid of the locking differentials sucked too. I have been stuck in snow! Eats tires for breakfast. There are only 2 or 3 quality tire choices for 19" rims and they are at least $1k a set. I love it though! Not a fast accelerator but feels good at 120mph. Drives like a car. I hear it will be back in 2019.
its all good Kyle. thanks for the reply. I get alot of hate comments on my channel so sometimes I feel like everyone is hating on me lol. Yes America version Volkswagen's are a lower quality type vehicle unless your buying the Golf GTI or some of the higher trim level VW's. well not low quality I really was trying to say more like a Honda, Toyota, Kia etc. heck even those brands are still somewhat nice. Basically not on the level of a Audi, BMW, Lexus etc.
VW does build junk but they are not considered a cheap brand like Kia because the also build high end cars. Kia would ba a cheap car company building an expensive car. MB would be a high end company building cheaper cars like smart. VW is a company that can build a 15k car or W12 Phaeton. Even though they own Audi Porsche Bentley Lamborghini people think they do not have the ability to build a luxury VW. If you put and Audi logo on the new Touareg you could easily sell it for sixty grand but that is the point of owning a Touareg. I have to admit it did annoy me to hear people brag about Q5's when they were less powerful and less expensive to purchase. But it is not about status right?
This is unfair! in Europe they have a luxurious Touareg that's great, but here in North America, we get an oversized box on wheels that is extremely boring
My parents bought me a super clean 2011 Touareg VR6 Sport w/Nav in Galapagos Gray Metallic w/ only 65k miles as my first car in high school. Hasn't had any problems (in my experience or the original owner's), but to fix/replace things is pretty expensive. Nevertheless, LOVE IT. It's too bad that the Touareg won't be sold in the US anymore (so I heard).
Touareg my a mile. Far superior in fit and finish and better mpg. BTW, VW will be introducing a 2019 Touareg. I Drove the Atlas and was not impressed, just another oversized gas-guzzling SUV.
No, the Touareg is replaced by a 2019 Touareg- only the bright minds in VW Nortn America decided not to import it from Germany... THAT new Touareg is topping the Audi Q5 and is ten times better (and prettier) than the Atlas: ruclips.net/video/LK08hQoDYuY/видео.html
I think that eventually they will... they want to keep it hush-hush for now so as not to impede the Atlas' sales... but hey, that's only my speculation...lately, their product policy really sucks- ex. they don't have a 2 door GTI or Golf R on the North American market...
Although I’m not a big fan of VW. It’s actually sad that they will stop producing Touareg. I prefer it more over Atlas. It’s kinda more luxurious looking and easy to control in narrow paths.
Hey Basel, I don't think Volkswagen is discontinuing the Touareg all together. They're just not selling them in the United States of America anymore. Which really sucks. I do like the Atlas, but like you said the Touareg is more luxurious and better built than the Atlas for sure.
Even the Touareg here is an entrance model.. basic options.. you can see that straight away from the seats.. front and rear very basic.. the wheel trim rings as well.. but still much better than the Atlas
My choice is the Touareg Execline TDI and I am lucky to own one. The best car I ever drive. For your information, the Touareg is not gone, the new touareg is coming out soon. They already show the new Model concept, it's call the T prime and you will see a reviews on it. It will be there new flag ship car design for there next generation model line up.ruclips.net/video/wueugQ5XL-o/видео.html
Me to lol. I do like the Atlas, but the Touareg really needs to stay around for those higher end customers. I guess you'll have to shift over to the Audi if you want to have something similar to the Touareg. The sales people at VW say the Atlas has brought in some American car buyers to the brand. we've traded a few Jeep Grand Cherokee's for Atlas's.
The Atlas is garbage! My son has a Touareg. The Touareg has style and feels amazing just sit inside of it! Atlas has a cheap plastic interior, looks rubbish! Mostly used VW Golf switches. Touareg was an amazing SUV. Atlas shouldn't be happen ever! ATLAS is a BIG MISTAKE from VW
Horrible review. Perhaps some specific details about the pros and cons would help like leather vs leatherette, single vs dual exhaust (and oh by the way the exhaust system for either type does in fact run under the vehicle from the engine to the back of the vehicle...just sayin')
I don’t like either. Why? The Touareg is outdated. The Atlas is only available with the unattractive VR6. Put better engines in the Atlas and I would buy one. Until then I won’t.
and did you hear about the VR6 motor not being available in the Atlas for the next year or so? The vw store I work with told me the 2.0L Turbo is going to be in all trim level Atlas's for 2019.
Glad you enjoyed it Chip and yes the Hyundai Tucson would be a great review for my channel! If you could please subscribe to my channel I'd really appreciate it. Working hard to hit my 10K sub goal in March and I'm just a few hundred away. If you could help that would be awesome. thanks in advance, Chad

The Atlas is North American market with the normal VW US shortcuts. Tourareg is quality German VW
David Burt hence they simple American name

my mother owns the 2017 touareg,i can say thats a luxurious and an amazing suv.Its better then the Atlas in my opinion.
I love my 2017 Touareg Wolfsburg Edition 👍
I have a 2017 as well.
I love it!
I as well. my 2nd one - love them - wish they were still available in USA
TOUAREG ALL DAY...

The Tiguan was built in Germany. It's kind of going the way of the Touareg.
Precisely! The US spec’d VW products are built down to a price. Nasty!
Just compare a North American Golf with a German. Chalk and Cheese!
Which one has better reliability long term ?
Especially after 100,000 miles?
T O U A R E G ~~ 100%%%%%%%

Good Choice. have a great night.

of course Touareg looks waaay much better.
In your market the Touareg is leaving not where I live in the caribbean, we dont even have the atlas but it dont matter because the Touareg is better
Yes I'm with you. The Touareg is much better.
I wish VW would bring back the newer Touaregs.
Touareg all day
The Touareg is beautiful!!
Atlas doesn’t have that German car feeling it’s like you’re driving a Dodge Durango is BS!!
This is unfair! in Europe they have a luxurious Touareg that's great, but here in North America, we get an oversized box on wheels that is extremely boring

Love me some that Toureag as well. They just have a different feeling about them. The Atlas still feels a bit cheap to me

wow that new Touareg is looking amazing. I'm just blown away by the interior. WHY can't VW bring it to the States?

Here's the reason why they will eventually HAVE to sell the new Touareg in North America: ruclips.net/video/qwKJTg7eP6c/видео.html
Touareg more reliable, proven SUV!
Although I’m not a big fan of VW. It’s actually sad that they will stop producing Touareg. I prefer it more over Atlas. It’s kinda more luxurious looking and easy to control in narrow paths.

Older model Tourages look a better with a much wide stance. The new one have Tiguan resemblence.
I own a 2011 Jetta and 2017 Touareg woflsberg edition the atlas is not in the same league as the touareg in any way shape or form
13:25 and no show the engine. lame.
When’s the US get the Amarok?
Even the Touareg here is an entrance model.. basic options.. you can see that straight away from the seats.. front and rear very basic.. the wheel trim rings as well.. but still much better than the Atlas

I think VW announced that they will no longer carry the Touareg for the North American market.
Touareg!!!!
Touareg. Atlas looks like a cow. Not everyone needs 3rd row. Some prefer the cargo space.
toureg never had 3rd row seating. know your facts first.
Thanks John. yeah that makes since, because there would surly not be enough room back there for a 3rd row.
Touareg 110%

@@CarolinaCarVideos We bought a 2019 Atlas today and it has the VR6

For such price i would buy a chevy tahoe
Hyundai tucson
