Mr Fish, I’m so glad to see somebody else went trough the same thought process to decide, in my case it came to either the KTM Adventure 790 or the Honda CB650R, slightly different bikes but same decision, adventure vs beautiful street bike , and I also have 3 neck herniated discs, not same desease but similar pain. I also thought the neck muscle exercise will help me with the pain, I finally decided for the honda CB650R, and have had it for a few months now, I can tell you a couple things, 1.position is perfect after gettting used to it and it did helped me with strengthening my neck muscles, which reduced a bit the daily pain, but even more importantly, 2. I wake every day with a smile on my face when I see my beautiful bike, and at the end that motivates me to ride it frequently which I think is the most important factor, the best bike is the one that makes you happy and nothing like a nice inline four to do that!!! What a sound and an awesome quick shifter!!!!!! Greetings from Costa Rica!!!
I get the whole adapting, because of health. I had to do the same, and ended up with a new strom 650. Bottom line is we ride, because we love it, and whatever the style or whatever the bike doesn't matter as long as we are in the wind. Cheers from Canada.
Many a time I have left a showroom simply because of how (indifferent or similar) the sales guy has been and bought a bike elsewhere. Dealers really are their own worst enemies. They lose so much business. I would even pay a little more for the same bike from someone who makes it enjoyable.
yeah agreed i have been in a simular situation. Was scheduled for a testdrive but the dealer didnt want to roll the bike out when i arrived since it was raining just a bit... ok bye bought the bike elsewhere.

The CB1000 got one of my awards for one of the best test ride's I have done over the last couple years. The engine is one of the sweetest motors on the market, the power is perfect, and behaves well on the road. I "get" the training yourself physically for as long as you can to push your physical ability- thats a good plan! the quick shifter is the best I have ever tried. The problem is the AT is such a good bike - anything else will feel a step down or sideway's . Hopfully you won't get bored - I dont think you will but you are a bit more rescrited now of course to where you go. I see why you got the CB but I think I would miss the AT big time!! Enjoy that super bike of yours- I had the 300R and the seats on the neo sport range are a bit rubbish after an hour. Its human nature to want to change your bike and why not! you work hard enough for it. Cheers

Hi guys, I'm riding an Africa Twin AS 2018, and like you I love the CB1000R. But I'm wondering if I fit on it. I'm 1m88 tall. I read that you swapped the AT for the CB1000R. So I guess you have about the same length as me ?!? Please drop a line about it. Cheers, Yves (Belgium)
Using this bike for phisiotherapy is a phrase for the pantheon of reasons to ride motorcycle s. Great review, great humour, thanks alot. Best wishes from Israel...
I bought one from Dobles just over a year ago now. Enjoyed your first test ride vid and that certainly gave me the confidence that I was looking for to make the decision as it was a brand new model just out back then. Have not regretted it for one moment. Just love it. A great bike, a real head turner and never fails to put a great big grin on ma fizzog. Enjoy Mr. Fish
No modern bike is a bad bike. I have two. A 2019 Honda VFR800x Crossrunner for touring, and a 2018 Triumph Street Triple RS for fair weather ride outs. I love them both, and they could not be more different. Both amazing build quality, and give smiles for miles. I am sure your choice was the right choice.
Sorry to hear about your injuries, I hope you get to enjoy your fun on two wheels for many years to come. You say your decision to buy the CB over the AT was heart first, but it sounds like you had some good reasons and what a lovely bike the CB is. I ride on similar roads to you, but in Essex, Herts and Suffolk and I considered a naked bike like the CB but went for the new AT std version. I'm amazed how different it is to the older bike, whilst still retaining all of that bikes excellent qualities. The new bike has a lot more attitude and is so much fun blasting around the lanes. I nearly bought a new 1250GS but I'm so glad I didn't now, even though the Beemer is an excellent bike too. Keep up the excellent work and enjoy your CB!
I test drove the cb1000r, and Africa twin adventure sport. Loved them both bought neither. The CB1000R is a solo option. My problem is my partner wanted to ride recently after being together 10 years. Anyway roll forward a year. I am now picking up 2019 Africa twin adventure sports with Honda aluminium cases included. Only 621 miles from new. Literally can’t wait. It’s a do it all bike and will get rid of my red VFR800 with 9k from new, and CRF250L 3k from new and just have one bike which can go anywhere and carry a passenger too! 2 days to go!!
I have looked at panniers for my CB1000R and in my opinion the best option appears to be with SW Motech - simple addition of two small frames which when attached blend in well with style of the bike but offer a secure and easy attachment for a selection of bags modern, retro etc. although there are other manufacturers.
If you ever get the chance, you should see if your local Yamaha dealer will let you take out a Tracer 900 GT. Plenty of power and character from its three cylinder engine (same as the MT-09). It’s a nice sporty bike in a touring-friendly package, and includes cruise control and a quick-shifter (up only, I believe), and removable panniers. It also gets good fuel mileage.
Two upper spine fusions later I went down the GS route but am starting to struggle with the weight and height. Seriously considering a smaller adventure bike or a naked with bar risers if necessary next time, or both, I think your reasoning is sound.
So how is it over the different types of bumps in the road? How much suspension travel? I read a review of an MT-10 where the guy traded it for a BMW F700GS because of its suspension travel and smoother ride over bumps. He said most of the roads he rode on were not that smooth and got tired of the rougher ride of the MT-10.
One of the best reviews I've watched , completely natural unlike alot of reviews and ended up much more informative I'm sure just like motorcycles, medical technology will improve too Great vid mate
Hi fish gutted to hear about your injuries and hopefully the bike you have chosen will help you enjoy bike in 4 many years to come good luck stay safe 👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
The tubed tires puts me off the Africa Twin too. The X-ADV is tubeless, although a totally different style of bike. Plenty fast enough, and good for touring though I'd say.
Akrapovic makes a nice full system for the CB1000R. It accentuates the singe-sided swingarm and gets rid of the tumor in the middle of the stock unit. By the way, a damn-fine motorcycle, the grandson of the original sport bike: the CB750. If I didn't have to ride in the Florida out-of-nowhere rain regularly, I would seriously consider the CB1000R as an everyday driver.
I’m actually kinda on the opposite end. I currently have a Harley Street Bob and I’m wanting to trade it for a CB1000R. There are all these little reasons. The dual disk brakes, ABS, quick shifter, the torque and speed, the nimbleness and weight. Just don’t want to regret it! It’s hard to find a shop that will let me test ride one here in the states too. Loved your video!
So what would you get if you could have a do over? I am trying to decide...so many choices. I don’t go off road. I am in the US...not sure if the plus model cb1000r is available here.

I would have thought the new triumph 900 GT would be your kind of bike. For the neck problem, a Yamaha Tmax 560 is perfect. The CB 1000 is cool but you will soon be looking for another bike.
Hope the physical recovery continues Mr.Fish👍 When it comes to modifications, Bennetts do have a long list of them which are “accepted as standard” so their insurer panel agree to insure them without an issue so always worth checking the small print👍😁👌 At bikes are only 5% of the road users the number of competing insurers is so much smaller than car or van; this makes it tough sometimes to find the right partner🤔
Hello Mr Fish, from another Mr Fish. No relation I think.. I bought the CB650r version from Dobles last spring, lovely little bike. They did me a good deal, I've bought a few bikes from them. I like the 1000, but at 5' 5" its a bit too high for me. The 650 is very good value, had to put a tail tidy and some Risoma bar end mirrors on though. Made the bike look much better, decluttered it. Ttfn.
I had an Africa Twin DCT from Doble and couldn’t fault them. Didn’t get on with the DCT and now have a 900 GT Pro. Sometimes I do wonder if I had the manual if I would still have it 😐
dry509 I didn’t enjoy the dive you get under hard braking with the DCT. It would cough and splutter. I also found when braking hard it was easy to knock the throttle a little. It is a revelation for some people. The best thing you can do is try it out and form your own opinion. I am not trying to rubbish it. It’s just not for me 👍
As always, great video. Really appreciate your honest and in depth reasoning as to why you purchased the CB. I know your condition is dengerative but I hope it stabilises for as long as possible. As its physio, ask your GP to write you a prescription for accessories for the CB , purely medically reasons. Be safe and enjoy
On the adventure high up bike versus upright naked versus sports bike, I am stuck on upright naked. My neck, wrists and back can't take the sports bike for more than 15 minutes. When I am on a high up bike, I don't feel in control at very low speeds and I can't flat foot. The upright naked suits me. I had a test ride of the CB1000R, it is a very good bike and one of the better looking naked bikes. Hope your neck improves
Really hope that the physical therapy will work out well for you mate. The Honda is a great fun bike with some serious speed up it's sleeve when required. I changed my 2018 model for a GSX 1400 as the extra size suited me. Enjoy the Honda brother.
The chronicles of mr fish Termi was superb and not silly money either, sounded epic even with baffles fitted but you could also take them out, I’m with be Moto too and no issue fitting track only pipe 👍
I have come to that conclusion with just 2 years of riding. There doesn't seem to be many half faired bikes on the market other than adventure bikes. I'd like a Speed Triple with something like the Tiger Sport half fairing.
I note your concern for your neighbours but why not extend that to everyone else. Bike sounds good to me as it is. You did that journey, had a ball, and nobody knew you had passed by. Put the money to something useful and keep the standard exhaust. You must be aware that action due to noisy bikes is not far off. Alas, the general public are not intelligent enough to realise that noisy bikes are already banned due to being illegal, but that involves police enforcement which costs money. Much easier just to bar all bikes from certain areas. Every new loud system brings the day closer. Can't happen? It has on the continent.
Interesting what you say about your neck. Few years back i sustained a neck injury that resulted in me loosing my balance and feeling sick. While discussing it with the physio i told her that whilst i could feel unwell whilst sitting and driving i felt fine riding my bike. Her reply was " im guessing you ride an upright bike, not a sportsbike" My bike was an XJR1300. She said that because of the seating postion and the wind blast i was forced to brace my upper body , neck and head and therefore easing the strain on the discs in my neck. Only confirmed what we all know i suppose, riding bikes is good for you. Hope the CB helps you condition.
Will be interested to see your bar end mirrors solution. I tried a set but on throttle side when tightening up would mar the grip and cause the throttle to stick.
You need to remove the 'inner sleeve' that comes as Honda standard. Then you don't need to nip the mirror right up to the throttle grip. My aftermarket ones did this but after a bit of fiddling it was sorted. Much better asthetics
My friend that’s the exact same reason I got my blade. It forces neck back. I understand why you went that way. Hey and life is all about experiencing new things. I’ve had many bikes just for that reason. Some enjoyed long run some not so much :-)
Awesome bike mate, I’d be interested in hearing how your lower half is coping with the more tucked up position. I’m a tall bloke and my knees ache like a bastard after an hour or so on in the saddle, was considering another bike to try and negate that and thought adv bike was the only answer.
Such a sweet bike mate, all the best for many happy rides together! Fascinating. My Wife suffers from the same disease, but lower in her spine. That's half the reason she doesn't ride any more. Of course I don't know the details of your condition but I do hope you can avoid surgery - physio and diet are your answer (bone broth, etc.) but not many Dr's will tell you that. All the best mate.
I went down to the opening today, looks really impressive and I massively wish Sam and the others huge success, and see no reason to doubt that happening! :-) Really awesome that you are liking the bike so far, is always a dilemma when you switch bike styles. You def looked to be able to hustle it along pretty well on the twiddlies! :-)
Congrats hope you love it I have a cb 1100 2013 which I bought in 2016 and the more I ride it, up to 12000 miles now, the more I like it. Have you ever ridden a cb 1100? How does it compare to the 1000r?
Mr. Fish, how do you find the stock mirrors? I’m about your age and size and am looking at getting one of these as my next bike. Too old now for the “comfort” of a Superbike!
I want to be more positive about the CB1000R it’s a good bike but the Africa Twin is a great bike . After watching this at least you have made me think again I need to enjoy my CB1000 R until I can afford to change it for another Honda Africa Twin .
I have degenerative disk disease also I’ve had 5 spine surgeries a c spine fusion and lspine surgugeries just a frighten mess I’m trying hard to get up strength to even get back on my bike
Fish sorry you suffer I too suffer every day even after the surgeries because if you get them it will stop or slow the getting worse progression ,,, if you don’t get the surgeries it will get worse no matter what especially riding motorcycle with all the jarring to the spine and neck and once it’s bad enough it either kills you or is past repair or slowing it down any longer!!!! Thanks 🙏 Mike I’ve been dealing with this for 13 plus years I know a lot about degenerative disk desease !!!! Thanks again
I ride my bike for physiotherapy as well, if I don't ride my back gets slowly worse as does my neck. During my long period of down time I was in pain from both after a while, now I am riding again they are getting better.
So glad to see you do a review on this bike, as when I come to the end of my pcp on my MT-07 this is one of the bikes I’m looking at getting next 👍 any chance you could do a review on the new Suzuki Katana next please 👍🏍👍
Zman I’m one of the few that actually like the look of it, the original 1100 is my unicorn bike 🦄🏍🦄 it’s weird Suzuki isn’t normally my go to manufacturer but the Katana is weird like me so I like it 🤣🤣🤣
@@Mrfish2015 I'm sure by now you would of changed these tyres. I found them awful. As soon as I got my CB1000R, I swapped to Avon tyres. Totally transformed the handling and the front end feel. Great bike. I love mine 👊✊
Damn Fish, I sorry to hear this stuff. It's the worst feeling when something dear to the heart make you feel regret when turns out using it causes discomfort due to some genetic condition. I hope you alright and your neck getting the best treatment you can get. Cheers!
I bought one of these, but then cancelled it! I'm the same, love the bike and love the looks. Alas, it was to be my first big bike after passing my test and I had second thoughts due to the power. I settled for a 2020 Kawasaki Z900RS due to the lesser power and very pleased with it. I still love the looks of Honda's take on the modern retro. Good choice Mr Fish!
The perfect bike is the one we have. Just like i said before, i see so many people continuously trading bikes and always not happy enough...this is the reflection of capitalism that shows us more is better and new is always better than "old". Be happy with what you ride and be grateful for the opportunity to bu such incredible bike. Just like people and life, nothing is perfect, we just learn to take the best of the situations and accept those things we cant change. To me, riding is an experience just like walking or swiming. I apreciate the ability to walk even if i dont have shoes and feel good swimming in the cheapest public pool or in the most expensive hotel resort.
Great points mate. I have a 97 vfr750 and a 2000 cb500s. I sometimes think about getting something newer and more modern, but i look after both bikes and they do everything that i like about riding. I am lucky to have these bikes as some people cant afford one. Cheers Neil
I wish I could keep them all 😂, but I get you I’m just lucky I work hard (ish) so treat myself every now and again . I love advancements in tech that’s probably my downfall
I understand the decision you had to make because of your condition, I've shrapnel in my lower back and stupidly went back onto a sports bike (a GSX-R750) after years off them, the sportsbike crouch just put pressure on the shrapnel resulting in pain, so I traded the Suzuki in against a Street Triple R, problem solved and lesson learnt.
Is it me but the engine braking is so high even in low and throttle is snatchy in sport. I'm finding it hard to find the right balance of gas and clutch when moving off. The mirrors are so shit escpailly the right one I took mine off and put bar ends.
Mirrors are fine on mine , I’ve come from twins engine braking does t seem that bad , throttle will be snatchy in sport , it’s throttle by wire , I use rain around town , still a little jerky but not as bad
Is there a bike that no changes need to be made? Doesn't matter what bike people buy, they make changes such as full system, the can, bigger or smaller screen, risers etc etc etc. Surely some company could make a bike we could all be happy with.

Lost my business for a while .. oh well lol
The chronicles of mr fish lost mine too this year!!; a change is as good as a rest👍🤣👌
Ttfn.
Kerb weight 212 kg, so take off 16 (?) kg to compare with dry weight specs (shouldn’t have to) and you get 196 kg bike, same as Triumph Speed Twin.
I had an Africa Twin DCT from Doble and couldn’t fault them. Didn’t get on with the DCT and now have a 900 GT Pro. Sometimes I do wonder if I had the manual if I would still have it 😐
GT pro not a bad bike
HJM1974 Whydid you not get on with dct? Was thinking of getting AT with dct.
dry509 I didn’t enjoy the dive you get under hard braking with the DCT. It would cough and splutter. I also found when braking hard it was easy to knock the throttle a little. It is a revelation for some people. The best thing you can do is try it out and form your own opinion. I am not trying to rubbish it. It’s just not for me 👍
HJM1974 Thank you. What brand is 900 GT Pro?
dry509 Triumph 👍
Some other options... 1-3 year old tuono v4 factory, superduke 1290r, harley fat bob
Sorry my bad, just got to your part on why you didn't want a superduke!!
Love the tuono but not in England for all year riding
As always, great video. Really appreciate your honest and in depth reasoning as to why you purchased the CB.
I know your condition is dengerative but I hope it stabilises for as long as possible.
As its physio, ask your GP to write you a prescription for accessories for the CB , purely medically reasons.
Be safe and enjoy
Worth a try
Another great film Mr. Fish
Got a set of bar risers sw motech they make a big difference no messing with cable length .
I was looking at those
On the adventure high up bike versus upright naked versus sports bike, I am stuck on upright naked.
Enjoyed the ride! Would have liked a walk around your bike.
I’ll try and do one son
do look at the Termi pipe I fitted to my old bike, also how you finding the bouncy rear shock?
The shocks not to bad at the moment but haven’t really pushed it , I like the short termi
The chronicles of mr fish Termi was superb and not silly money either, sounded epic even with baffles fitted but you could also take them out, I’m with be Moto too and no issue fitting track only pipe 👍
Reasonable 💰I own a triumph explorer 1200 and was missing the agility of a naked, so I've got a street triple as second bike and I'm pretty happy.
That's a great bike for some fun. If you can put touring gear on it as well, it might even be perfect. I like the idea of 143bhp driving 212kg.
SW-Motech makes touring gear that fits really well on the CB.
After many years of riding I came to the conclusion half faired was my thing.
Ditto, especially in winter.
I have come to that conclusion with just 2 years of riding. There doesn't seem to be many half faired bikes on the market other than adventure bikes.
I'd like a Speed Triple with something like the Tiger Sport half fairing.
Fair enough ;)
I could easily do those roads on a cbr300 but love the bike - def the right choice
Exhaust can be a safety aid in certain situations, it’s a balancing act , but the harley exhaust I tested was wrong on all levels but I loved it 😂
Interesting what you say about your neck.
Wind therapy
@@Mrfish2015 Nah, thats something completely different!
Still don’t give space even with the inners removed .. but I bought cheap
@@richieh4484 I removed the complete inner weight sleeve - bar was hollow.
@@n13ldo that's the way
@@Mrfish2015 me too.. well, £45.. will send you a pic on insta
I am a big Honda fan as I have two and enjoy Doblemotorcycles. Did you consider the BMW F750GS? It is a 853cc I believe.
Wasn’t on the list it was GS adv the only consideration for me
My friend that’s the exact same reason I got my blade.
Legs are not too bad
Such a sweet bike mate, all the best for many happy rides together!
Fascinating. My Wife suffers from the same disease, but lower in her spine. That's half the reason she doesn't ride any more. Of course I don't know the details of your condition but I do hope you can avoid surgery - physio and diet are your answer (bone broth, etc.) but not many Dr's will tell you that. All the best mate.
Cheers mate , I will keep away from proper surgery as long as possible , they are saying they replace the discs through the throat .. er no thanks lol
@@Mrfish2015 JEEZUZ!!
Happy you bought the Honda, it's the better bike, reliable a d comfy and cheaper overall, over time. When you include depreciation, and service cost.
That truck was probably looking for somewhere to dump some rubbish 🙄
I went down to the opening today, looks really impressive and I massively wish Sam and the others huge success, and see no reason to doubt that happening! :-)
Really awesome that you are liking the bike so far, is always a dilemma when you switch bike styles. You def looked to be able to hustle it along pretty well on the twiddlies! :-)
Glad it was a good turn out
If I may ask, how tall and light are you?
I have DDD in my neck as well so i know where you are coming from. Ended up with disc replacement and a GS
The CB 1000R looks great but reckon you'll miss the AT. I've never been a one make person. The Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro would be my favourite.
I’m not really a one make , just so happens they keep coming along 😂
Finally, we get to see your new bike!
I'm glad ur having a better experience with ur new bike than I am
Congrats hope you love it I have a cb 1100 2013 which I bought in 2016 and the more I ride it, up to 12000 miles now, the more I like it. Have you ever ridden a cb 1100? How does it compare to the 1000r?
i literally just traded my Africa twin in for a cb1000r plus and dont regret it one bit!
Nice
Looks like you put a decent amount of thought into it, I want an Africa twin but can't afford one just yet, 👍
Mr. Fish, how do you find the stock mirrors? I’m about your age and size and am looking at getting one of these as my next bike. Too old now for the “comfort” of a Superbike!
I find them really good
Have you ridden the CB1100? How does the 1000R compare? Egos different obviously. But wondering about handling and power. 🤔
I have , check out my vid on it 😉
@@Mrfish2015 whaaaat, how did I miss that? I'll check it out 🙌
I want to be more positive about the CB1000R it’s a good bike but the Africa Twin is a great bike . After watching this at least you have made me think again I need to enjoy my CB1000 R until I can afford to change it for another Honda Africa Twin .
You might as well enjoy it , there’s enough negativity without bikes
I have degenerative disk disease also I’ve had 5 spine surgeries a c spine fusion and lspine surgugeries just a frighten mess I’m trying hard to get up strength to even get back on my bike
I have nerve block every 6 months or so , I don’t want fusing so I’m suffering lol
A good physio is way more expensive too
No mistakes... Great bike
Wait til you come to Scotland...It will be pissing it down, lol Alot!!! Have fun on your new bike Mr Fish and smile :-)
I’m expecting the rain
Head south...south of France.
I have the same bike and i love it 🥰
I broke my clavicle 15 years ago and it still pops and clicks. And why does insurance need to know about your mods?
Uk , they want to know everything just in case they can get out of paying
I bet that CB steers a lot better too. Enjoy 😊
Differently
So glad to see you do a review on this bike, as when I come to the end of my pcp on my MT-07 this is one of the bikes I’m looking at getting next 👍 any chance you could do a review on the new Suzuki Katana next please 👍🏍👍
Go and see lamb chops rides channel he did one a while back
Zman I’m one of the few that actually like the look of it, the original 1100 is my unicorn bike 🦄🏍🦄 it’s weird Suzuki isn’t normally my go to manufacturer but the Katana is weird like me so I like it 🤣🤣🤣
The chronicles of mr fish cheers buddy I’ll check it out 👍
What did you end up getting? My pcp on my sv650 is coming up soon and curious what you went for
Mr Fish sir what tires is she running 👍
Dunlop sportmax d214
@@Mrfish2015 I'm sure by now you would of changed these tyres. I found them awful. As soon as I got my CB1000R, I swapped to Avon tyres. Totally transformed the handling and the front end feel. Great bike. I love mine 👊✊
Damn Fish, I sorry to hear this stuff. It's the worst feeling when something dear to the heart make you feel regret when turns out using it causes discomfort due to some genetic condition.
I hope you alright and your neck getting the best treatment you can get. Cheers!
Best of luck with the back and neck mate
How do you know what exhaust to get for the noise you want?
Guess work . RUclips vids help and forums

You know you can limit the power of this bike via the user modes?
The z900 rs is a beautiful bike , a good decision
Ps i still have a Honda 90 from 82 and it runs amazing i salute you Mr Honda san
How do you find the dash visibility ?
Had no problems so far
Is it me but the engine braking is so high even in low and throttle is snatchy in sport. I'm finding it hard to find the right balance of gas and clutch when moving off. The mirrors are so shit escpailly the right one I took mine off and put bar ends.
Mirrors are fine on mine , I’ve come from twins engine braking does t seem that bad , throttle will be snatchy in sport , it’s throttle by wire , I use rain around town , still a little jerky but not as bad
@@Mrfish2015 mirrors maybe I'm too wide? Does your dive alot on heavy breaking?
Nice bike but I think you will miss the weather protection in winter 🥶
He will be fine. I have a cb500f and have no issues. Heated grips and wet suit and you're sorted
Crf250 rally
Cheers for the shout out man !!
No worries looked like a good turn out
I was wondering if you might be too tall for this bike when I saw the intro video. Great bike though.
I’m too tall for most
Is there a bike that no changes need to be made? Doesn't matter what bike people buy, they make changes such as full system, the can, bigger or smaller screen, risers etc etc etc. Surely some company could make a bike we could all be happy with.
It will never happen lol
