Made my face leak. I'm a 58 year old "big strong dad" struggling with leukaemia and I've learned that worse than the physical impact of the disease is the emotional carnage. Loss of identity and confidence. Worse than the thought of death on a personal level is the idea that I might not be around to care for my family, hold a grandchild or hold my wife in my arms. The medical care I've received has been extraordinary but the mental and emotional cost can be unnoticed except by those closest to us.
Magic. Glad to see you got through Mark. As a 54 yr old who's struggled with depression & anxiety all my life, those panic attacks you described, been there & would not wish them on my worst enemy. Mark you are so right, the single most important lesson in this is TALK about it. When you stop seeing mental illness as the enemy it no longer has control of your life. Depression & anxiety are part of who I am, and have made me who I am. I love who I am. So don't be afraid to talk about it & don't be afraid ask that workmate, friend, or even that person at the bus stop who looks like they might be struggling. R U ok.
Once again, Stories of Bike has brought tears to my eyes, and a lump in my throat. Great video. Thank you! And Godspeed to all affected by mental illness. May we all find peace and relief. Now, go for a ride.
Wow! Such impact! I'm 50 years old, watching this on my phone at work and there's tears streaming down my face. I suffer from social anxiety disorder so I can really relate. Excellent video and mesage.
Dont you give up !!!!!! I dont know you mate ,but dont you bloody give up !!!! Look out your window ,watch the world go by ,take a deep breath .........get on your bike and fu..ING RIDE!!!!! Join a club ,talk to people and remember WE ARE HERE FOR YOU !!!!!
"A daughter shouldn't see their dad like this. I should be looking after you" - Every father will know how this man felt when he said that. Many of us have said, or thought, the same.
I've got tinnitus and though able to tolerate it (for now...) I can understand how it could be damaging to one's mental health. Thank you Mark, for sharing your story.
You truly a blessed man, Mark. God has given you a family that stands with you and loves you so much. Stand strong my Brother and share your story every chance you can! Cheers
Fantastic movie, full stop. Great lens work and cinematography but also great story of one family's battle. Not to mention fabulous central character. Having suffered from anxiety and panic attacks at different stages through my life I remember craving that peace, silence and stillness you created in the movie. Really makes me want to ride again. Love your work. And yes If you think you have a problem seek help don't try to cover it up.
I understand this and will share this video with someone who needs to see.... Motorcycles and mental wellness go hand in hand . 30 years riding... 25 bikes later ....still can’t stop !
It is more common then we think, and I totally think the more you talk about it the better you feel and also the people around you feel, we need to get the old way of thinking if you cry suck it up.. so wrong and I also suffer from mental illness. 🙏🏻 so proud of you.. take care.
Powerful message. I am proud to now be part of the DGR group and hope videos like this spark conversations about the things we all struggle with from time to time. Thank you for being brave enough to share something so private. We are here for you............
It's a daily struggle, hiding the pain from the world & people, but I've learned that being around loving people & going to church instead of avoiding people is what i need, even as a Christian i still struggle alot, life is hard when everything is always moving at a fast pace, just need to be still & calm down enough to see through the storms of life, life is so precious, live it to the fullest as much as possible, and enjoy the people you meet along the journey ❤ u in Jesus Christian ✝️ Biker
My god, did you up your game ! The narration always gets better, those shots are magnificient and the message itself is so crucial. Thanks for this, can't wait to see what's next.
Your not alone mate, your not alone ....look out the window ,take a deep breath and realise that what ever the world chucks at you there are people to talk too,DONT wait for help ASK for it . Good luck with the future ,take care mate ,take care 👍👍👍👍
I have anxiety attacks, its less now thanks to my motorbike. But i know its not a quick fix. What years of pain cant be healed in a day or a year. its a constant battle but i seek to improve my self everyday. Keep on riding sir and ride safe
A lot of us have lived this like Jim and Rob below. Hats off to you guys and to Mark in this video. It has motivated me to be open about my experience to help others while I fund raise with the DGR.
surrounding yourself with good people always gives you hope in the hardships of life. keep peaceful thoughts and ward-off your demons by riding your bike is the cure! 😉
How can we bring this to rural America? There are alot of us in the southeast U.S. as I'm sure throughout all of the U.S. but I for one would love to help out fellow Southeastern Men and Women that suffer with Depression/Anxiety. I know my story and how it "became" for me, and as a strong "dad" or Man it is hard to admit or share
Hey Robbie, reach out to DGR and they should able to tell you where your closest ride host is. If there's nothing nearby, you could become a ride host yourself. Unfortunately, this year's ride appears to be postponed until next year.
This is awesome video mate, I came across similar post a few days ago on reddit about how motorcycling has saved people who was diagnosed with clinic anxiety and depression, I even wrote a blog post about it (in Chinese obviously). I am wondering if you would allow me to repost this video to the other video hosting platforms such as bilibili or youku, because I feel such great video should be seen by more people, but unfortunately as youtube is blocked in China it is very difficult for Chinese user to come here and watch it. So if you allow me to repost the video, I will be very appreciated and of course I will make sure they are properly subtitled in Chinese and the source and credit of the video will be mentioned in the video description.
i approached distinguished gentlemen uk 👎 for help after malignant abuse by my covert narcissist ex wife. an absolute washout. 👎 complete ignorance about this horrendous form of abuse and the even more horrendous effects. 👎
That's unfortunate and terrible that you had to endure that. But DGR isn't a support network for domestic abuse. Their primary focus is to raise awareness for men's mental health and to raise funds for those organisations who do provide support. Did they try to direct you toward support in your area?
@@storiesofbike i was abused because of my mh vulnerability ffs. by comparison, my tinnitus as a result of sf military service is nothing. my decades of depression is nothing. that is a measure of how significant the trauma of covert narcissistic malignant abuse has been - and i know with certainty i am not alone in this. dgr choosing to stick it's head in the sand about this issue is ignorant and inexcusable.
as a postscript, help me set up the non profit i have envisioned for ed and help about this truly horrendous form of abuse. i hope you picked up on the point that mh issues are a significant form of vulnerability for targeting the abuse.

Amazing
Fantastic
Very impressive family.
great !!!
I feel him...
Impressive!
wow, powerful stuff 🙁
beautiful ))
Glad I have no problem like that with my tinnitus.
I've has it since my mid to late 20's and the tone is damned close to what the video used for it.
♥️🙏🏼
It will never be about the bike, but about the person who uses it. A motorcycle then becomes a human experience, often sensational.
tears roll
