Can You Beat Remnant II with Only Summons?

- After playing through Remnant: From the Ashes, I absolutely wanted to take a swing at Remnant II. Or Remnant 2, if you're having less fun.
I love summons even when they're not great. I love them even more when the devs are kind enough to give a dedicated summoner class. In this case, the archetype would be taken up by the legendary hero, Beef Chadwick the Third.
It was a really fun run, a fun game, and I do recommend giving it a playthrough or so if/when you get a chance! I'm always happy to see devs support what is one of my favorite playstyles by far. Do be warned, the performance may be a bit inconsistent. I would worry about how lower end rigs might handle certain areas, but otherwise....
Also, Gearbox! The heck?!

I personally dont think using starting equipment to shoot "Breakable Objects" in order to unlock Summoner and progress through the Cube Maze disqualifies the run. The only thing dealing damage to enemies were your summons. Either way, sick to see a video like this so soon after release, and i can't wait to see any other challenge runs of Remnant 2 you do.
Yea some things doesn't have to be fully fixed to fit the criteria
Like Halo speedrun like zero shot challenge, some bosses required you to shoot as a scripted part of the gameplay, so those are null and don't break the rules
Engi turret, summoners root, and the handler dog are considered summons and scale with skill damage.
Oh the dog is counted as a summon...didnt know that
Turret is definitely a summon you get health back from the summoners link ring
@@darrylsanders9897 even when holding it or is it only counted when left as a turret
@@De1usionsofGrandeurno it's health bar goes away no longer a summon
The Familiar, Space shrimps, Root tentacles are count as summons
"Nice Shooting, Doesnt count btw"
_The A.I Partner justifying why her own Summons Only Run should continue._
The “melee attack” doesn’t deal damage, you just wave the stick around her head and get the item to enter her dreams, you can also kill both her and her dream it doesn’t lock you out of getting the one kill or the other. So yeah can can totally get the summon mod but it isn’t as good as you think it is it requires you aim at the enemy you want it to and I can only affect one enemy.
Hey Spud, great work, you did what I originally planned to, but gave up on. And that's not even mentioning the video. This is great, I loved it. Im not currently in a monetary situation where any excess spendings are a no, but I would if I could. You are a great content creator, and its great to follow your challenge runs and lurking in the discord. Thank you for this video as well, its always a pleasure watching your videos.
15:27 Yes the turrets is a summon if you ask the game so all summon rings and amulets is for the turrets to.
Just incase noone else says it, solid Steven Universe reference.
You are doing great man, keep up these videos
Sidenote: *_This Major Story Mechanic! Being able to Re-Roll the Campaign World. Slap that on Baulders Gate 4 and you'd have my new dream video game!_*
I never got into the series, but isn't that at least sort of a thing in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II? I'm honestly not sure how Dark Alliance ties to the main series.
@@SpuddyCube Honestly Baulders Gate 3 is my entry into the franchise. Just that a D&D Game with pre-generated Campaigns is a dream of mine. 😅
That's more than fair. I don't think I'd be quick to do it, but from what I've heard, it could be a really fun system to put together a game in. Encounter building, story whatnot, and all while having the players actually explore the game world?
Baldurs gate 3 came out yesterday , and dudes already contemplating baldurs gate 4😂
@@hoopla5502 Used Baulders Gate as it is just Video Game D&D. Didn't want people to assume I didn't know bout it is all :)
I have been hoping for some remnant 2 challenge runs. Thank you!!!
I know a good man when i hear one, and when you did your speech at the end, I heard one. Thanks for the vid my man. 👍
New sub for sure, loved this.
can't wait for the return of Margret
“I’m dense” … I felt that 😅🥲 stupid puzzles 😵💫
I feel like I'm either fairly analytical and good at problem solving... or less observant than a brick. And absolutely nothing in between.
I have done almost everything in the game and didn't know that Rugged trait boss existed...
0:55 is my favorite part hands down.
3:58 Had that happen with the Reaver minion. Was wondering where my minion was while I was getting my ass beat and then that enemy came around a corner with the Reaver just poking out the top lmao
I'm still not one hundred percent sure if it's a bug or a feature.
Best thing for Huntress, the "melee attack" doesn't damage her in the slightest, unless you are too far back and run ram into her
Was going to mention this. The dreamcatcher is an interact action using the melee attack button. It neither attacks nor does damage.
That was so fast bro! Can't wait to watch this soon just gotta get off work and all that. To bad they just gave the doggo more health in the new patch ehh?
I want to point out you could have gotten the summon from the huntress because you don't hit her with a melee weapon but you do use it for stealing her dream and then fighting her in her dream
That's probably fair, but it still didn't feel quite right to go swinging it when I didn't have to.
@@SpuddyCube well that the thing it's an animation not a swing of the weapon it does require the same input as an attack but instead it plays an animation that I want to add does no damage and does not disturb the the boss when there asleep
Edit: I wanted to also clarify that it's a particular weapon you have to use called the Dreamcatcher
@@SpuddyCube Reminder that you can do this in adventure mode and then reroll the campaign and keep it.
And at least unlike Nightmare you can actually effectively damage Annihilation with the summons.
So... fun fact: Zone difficulty primarily scales with weapon power. There is a minimum level for each zone depending on where it is found in a playthrough, but beyond that it is literally your power level +1 and your power level is basically the average level between your archetype levels and your weapon levels.
With you never using or upgrading any weapons, your power level was significantly lower than one could reasonably expect from your playtime, allowing you to face Annihilation at its minimum world level of 14 whilst having a full build.
Watched for the challenge, subbed for the wholesome ending.
Tbh for the huntress summon u kinda just wave the weapon above her head u don’t really attack her.
If nothing else, it's at least sort of using a melee weapon for its intended purpose, which just seemed against the spirit of things.
I'm playing as handler I've seen the dog glitch through the ground a couple of times but it always teleported back to when it did that
Please do melee only now theres a ton of melees that are ranged so it possible
I definitely wouldn't be opposed to taking a swing at it. I think it may be a bit before I have the time to take it on though. There are so many new releases coming out...
I use Leto’s armor plus the letos amulet (you literally have to belly flop 100 times with heavy armor and then someone sells it at the hub), and with the pair I have a light roll
Light roll? With challenger maxed it only gives me medium rolls
For my solo apocalypse attempt I dreaded The Cube arena more than I dreaded Annihilation. The Cube demands your respect.
As some one who also beat the game as a summoner. I must regrettably inform you that Nano swarm is not a summon by the games definition. If it was you would get a boost from soul anchor or soul guard when you cast it, but you do not. As far as I know the Summons are summoner skills, Handler's dog, engi's turret but only in turret mode, Root Lash, Familiar, Far Gazer and Space Crabs.
There is no limit to the number of summons you can get from mods. The only limit is the mod duration and how fast you can generate mod power. Far Gazer is also really good as it allows you to deal damage by aiming your gun but not shooting it. Most enemies are affected by the madness debuff and madness deals no damage to summoner minions but still enrages them. The down side is Im not sure if you can beat the Legion boss with minions. As for the Familiar, taking a dream with dream catcher deals no damage.
Oh you spoil me! Gotta love Spuddy on a Friday
I feel like final form beef chadwick looks like a member of the Enclave.
Wait, which Beef Chadwick are we talkin about here?
beef chadwick the second is a hardened war criminal, so... that checks out as him, correct?
another banger of a video.
About the bugs in my 100hour playthrough I have not seen a single game breaking bug I did encounter some small visual bugs but nothing that broke the game for me
This video is right on time 👍👍👍
10:58 unfortunately. Nebula’s weapon mod is not a summon. It won’t proc summon related items like soul anchor or soul guard.
Mad respect for that 💪🏻
man there's a lot I haven't experienced yet and I've got 50 hours in so far
I bet that update buffing summons would be handy 😅
Oh, hearing about that buff the same day I uploaded the run kinda killed me. On the one hand, I love to see summons get the support that they deserve. On the other hand...
Beef Chadwick III is my hero!
Just a heads up. Grime looks amazing and combat doesn't feel half bad, but it's enemies and level design are obnoxious
Nice one!
I was wondering if you could do a melee only run, it technically is possible with the huntress melee weapon
There is also the Krell axe you can throw, and it deals shock damage.
@@lefameuxsaumon6784 It does proc Overload so I'm not sure that would count in a melee only run
Also there a sword you get from beating apocolpyse mode that has a ranged attack you can get from the start of the game if its unlocked for 700 or 1500 dom't really remember and I think explorer also starts with hero sword which also has a ranged attack
@@TurntSnakoI mean its a Melle weapon .You're throwing it, but it's still melee
@@TurntSnakooverload isn't exclusive to ranged damage. No reason applying a status would null and void only Melle there multiple Melle weapons that proc status effects
You can can use the Leto mk2 armor with the bright steel ring to completly ignore encumbrance.
Or use mist dodge
Encumbrance still affects the stamina cost of the roll and the cost of melee charge attacks so be carefull! Mist dodge can* be better assuming you are running gray health regen.
Unfortunately, this no longer works, for anyone who's here after and reads this.
BRO I JUST WATCHED YOUR FIRST ONE LAST NIGHT
Have some more, no you do not get a choice
can easily do this with handler/engineer, engineer/summoner, handler/summomer. engineer turret counts as a summon, and can be used to auto target on its own, or held as a mini gun. and given that you *summon* it, it would still count.
The turret does not work with summon enhancing rings when you have it in your hand so technically only in turret mode
@@Link-kr2bc you can switch between the turret shooting what you're looking at, and letting it shoot automatically!
16:00 if only there were some sort of easily available consumable that removed root rot.
ill say this now the bugs in this game although can be annoying but this game is still great
The turret does count as a summon, but nano swarm does not.
Beating the game once would unlock the Explorer, his sword got a ranged attack that has the possibility to beat the game with only melee if you ever plan that
There's also the one for beating apocalypse, if he's able to get that done
Huntress' spear as well, and the Atom Smasher greatsword but it's a big more finnicky
Great video. Quick question, what starting area in yaesha lead you to the forgotten fields (place where you got the rugged perk)? I can't that place even after 30 hours
I've seen it pop up in both storylines. It popped up in the Red Throne start for me, and in the Grove start for my brother.
I mean there’s a ring that breaks summons making them do infinite damage but I don’t think that would follow your rules for the run
I wasn't aware of it before, but it seems it's been patched out. Also, they increased summon health today.
Unlucky man for the bugs. I played since day one early access and had none of the issues you had
Same here, I have almost 70 hours in and I think I have one or two bugs that affected gameplay, and one was in multiplayer. I find the game to be extremely polished myself.
@@georgen5882definitely buggy.... but big patch dropped today to fix a bunch of stuff.
Said patch also buffed summon health...
@@SpuddyCube damn you are unlucky
Good video
Would you look at that he did the thing
I got Root nexus on my very first run 🤣
hey for the cube boss I died well over 20 times b/c the cube rolled back on me or b/c I miss the glowing spot and died b/c I wasn't paying attention
Mmmm... remnant 2 already? You spoil me
Considering summoner needs wisps I'm gonna say it's a big no
Im ngl i thought youd actually be yknow using the SUMMONER class for a summon only run…
You could’ve just started as summoned
Now do it without weapons
bruh u should have rerol till get the forest area and u uold have got easy summoner.....
Bad run, L + Ratio + summons bad + you smell
it's NATHAN, not josh
I've butchered the lore! I'm sorry!
Remnant is more of a “which areas can you complete with summons only.” Also I wish the classes had a bit more to them. Such as the summon class can give evolutions to the dog that can make it do things like fly, add burn when it bites, etc.
Seems like a lot of builds copying your final build are popping up on youtube and stuff as broken whilst giving you zero credit :( sad to see
My guess would be that there are just a lot of similar minds on the matter. As long as folks are enjoying the beauty of summon builds. Which have been buffed multiple times since finishing the run...
Yes this game is pretty buggy, yes it works like shit and it crashes from time to time and for me that's enough to completely burn me out of it after finishing campaign and two adventures
Poor baby
That sucks to hear. I had a lot of fun with it, but I'm also lucky enough to have a fairly good setup. I hope that the patches do something to let you enjoy it more in the near future if you're still in the mood to play it.
Surprisingly, mine ran really well despite my setup being near minimum requirements for it. The only constant bug I found was that after playing for more than like 2 hours, the next cutscene would always crash the game when it tried to load.
@@SpuddyCube thx for nice words. Sadly the new patch didn't include any performance changes or vendor fixes, but I'll be waiting
@@skeletonwar4445 sadly it's basically RNG at this point. From what I know at this point it can run perfectly fine on some machines, while dropping frames on NASA PC. It's basically the same with the previous game too
Good video, but it would be better on mute
Dang, ya did indeed follow through. 🤣
The cube is not a bad mandatory boss , the game gives you everything you need to beat it the seconed you boot the game up. Its not bad fight because you decided to hinder youself thats 100% on you
it's, a, challenge run????
