@@h13n12 I kinda assume he played on a very low difficulty as he can just tank through a lot of hits but I also never tried an optimised melee build. Still im suprised he is mostly not getting stunned by the bosses. I wouldn't have thought that changes with difficulty.
I believe I was running the base game/DLC both on normal. As far as defenses, Leto's set is incredible for pure survivability. It also gives a stagger reduction bonus for wearing two pieces. I absolutely wouldn't have been able to play so fast/loose without the stacked melee lifesteal. In retrospect, I'm at least fairly sure the build could comfortably take on Hard. I think I'd need to pick up some missing traits/accessories to take such a playstyle beyond that though. Also finish upgrading the gear that I got.
Way to late but anyway. Letos + Claws, heal on bleed and +50% armor +25 weight ring(5% melee leech vs pure elemental bosses), 35%crit chance 15% crit damage vs bleed amulet is one of my favorite powerbuilds. Aside from very rare cases of "can't really melee this" it is genuine unkillable while dealing some of the highest dps possible. (can also subsidies Claws with the leech scythe and add the melee applies bleed ring. You always want bleed and heal on bleed to keep you topped off while you get staggered or enemies move around in their attack animations and somesuch, it's also the strongest form of "passive" healing you can get) Properly build around melee tank is an insanely strong playstile. You can literally bury your face in a bosses hips and slaughter away. Even Hasgard (DLC final boss) phase two can be meleed easily. Not only that, in the center root you can get stuck in and not get hit / only glanced by most of his attacks.
Ends up in a melee fight with a pair of giant butterfly mutants that are outside melee range (Comes back with a knockoff master sword) Spuddy "alright come and get some"
The world stones function differently to the teleporter found in letos lab, as the stones are otherworldly and use basically magic to teleport you. Also, it is possible to kill nightmare without the Hero's sword, you have to hit those little ribbons, their hitboxes get pretty close to the ground and with a good build particularly with jungle claws, you can shred the health bar
Well, the machine is based on crystal frequency... and do we actually know if it telleports or clones you? Because cloning would explain why you can't die.
@michasokoowski6651 the world stones create einstein-rosen bridges, or wormholes that are used for travel, which does not destroy the body in the process, humans in remnant hadn't quite figured out how to replicate the wormhole creation, only something similar based off the technology they discovered from studying the world stones, which is why the replicator in the alpha research lab is incomplete, only allowing random teleportations without letos calculations, and also destroying and disposing of the bodies in the process
Me who's already played the game: oh I already know where this is going It's nice to see some remnant challenges. Don't see this game getting too much love
The Leto's lab teleporter is a reference to some movie about a magician who invented a similar machine. But the magician didn't know about the clones, he just thought he invented a teleporter and would go on tour showing it off as a magic trick. All the while his best friend was dropping the clones into a seal-able vat of water with a trap-door built into the stage and drowning them. The big reveal is hundreds of filled clone vats each with horror frozen on their faces when they see their best friend lock them in to slowly drown.

Haha! Yes Im loving this cant wait to watch this one at lunch! Remnant 2 is a month away! I hope that game has as much potential for fist only as Rem 1 does haha
I am unreasonably excited to get my hands on those summons. They were so much fun in the base game, and I really hope to see even more this next go around. Melee too, but summons! There's just a lot to be excited for.
11:11 Not getting The Lost Harpoon? Especially on a melee character?! Either way, fantastic video, I searched for precisely a Remnant Melee only video and this was short, quick and straight to the point with laughs and chuckles
I tried doing this a while back on my tiny channel, although i didn't know there was a sword that had a projectile nor about most of the other preparations that you made to make this possible. I am glad someone saw it through to the end cause i got stuck with that one random swamp boss you can't hit and then lost the will to continue. Good work all around.
This game has a weird relationship with research/prep. It's built around replayability, so it's hard to say what you will/won't get for your build. It's gone through a lot of updates, so the information that's available online is... inconsistent. It's... weird. A lot of fun, but weird. For instance, you can go a different route and skip the butterfly bosses by going back to kill the Undying King, which you can do even after agreeing to help him. Though Nightmare is still Nightmare.
@@SpuddyCube I allowed myself to use weapon abilities against flying bosses so the butterflies might have been beatable, but yes the king was my plan if the butterflies were too hard.
In all fairness, you could just as easily go with the Void Armor (with one piece of the twisted set), and mix in rings that give you health regen. This allows for damage buffs (and reduction when hit), and really noticeable health regen. It's also what I use to be almost entirely unkillable (with a few consumables)
I could be wrong, but I think Leto's set gives a substantially higher effective health pool, but admittedly at the cost of rolls. The biggest issue with a lot of specific runs for Remnant is just getting the stuff to make it work.
@SpuddyCube tbh I couldn't recount on that part correctly either. Been a minute since I've used the set. But you're right. Even now in 2, I find myself wanting to swap things up constantly just because the influx of new rings and mods
It remains to be seen, but I think I'm most excited for summons. I do absolutely want to try out melee in the sequel as well though. I have really high hopes for Remnant II.
I have to wonder what part would cause such a thing. I stand by that it's at least worth researching for a group of folks without any other real options out of the current predicament. If absolutely nothing else, it could theoretically work for cloning food, as the bodies are still present in the lower area of the lab. The lab that somehow has limitless power...
@@SpuddyCube I can shed light on that last bit. When you first arrive at the lab it DOESN'T have power, you need to reboot its honest-to-gods ON-SITE NUCLEAR REACTOR
Scythes are actually busted with the right setup. Nab that bleed on heavy ring and the Ring of Strength which boosts melee damage on heavy hits. Scythes... have multi-hit heavies. Even with the neutral dodge version :) There are some armors that are great for quick attacks as well but you'll probably want to stick to tank.
Quick tip for melee, use neutral dodge, it's just the dodge button without a direction, it's faster and allows for immediate counters. Also rolling puts out the fire DOT.
Didn't like the Cretic of the monotonous rooms, since at the time one thing the community complained about was the lack of hard puzzles. witch is what that was supposed to be. However really enjoyed the video overall. And I guess the Answer to the title is NO it Cant, but it can be beat with 1 bullet.
As someone who's going on a THREE DAY(please end me pms sucks who designed this???) migraine. Thank you for cutting out the bleed effects going off constantly. I might have been fine but I'm glad I didn't have to find out. Per usual I love your commentary. Seriously I drop everything(that's not important to you know living) when I see a new upload. Your videos definitely brighten up my day.
Oh, I'm so sorry that you're going through that. That sounds like an absolute nightmare, and I hope it goes away sooner rather than later. Similarly, I'm glad you're not dropping the vital things! I really appreciate you being here, but your life and health should absolutely take priority!
As a person that did this i dont know your ring set up or amulet in the end if you stayed on the pocket watch for stamina but with my set up compared to yours their fairly similar the differences are choice of weapon and some rings and amulets and tactics of the run. Firstly i stuck with the scrap hammer its raw damage and the hero sword for ranged attacks with the leech ember 5% of the hammer's hit is a good amount of HP. Second was rings i used the leech ember how could you not for an all melee run but my second choice was bloodfont the ring grants you minor health regen constantly but raises over all effectiveness of healing by 15% including itself and improves leech ember. Finally amulet from the resident evil you called it you can get an amulet if rng says yes called terror margin if my memory serves correctly it gives you 1.5% melee life-steal increasing in power by 1.5% with each 25% of max hp your missing at full hp you gain 20% more melee damage combined with ledos armor you can box most anything into submission through endurance. Finally i did use and upgrade guns but i never shot them i used them solely to carry weapon mods since your melee attacks generate mod power for your current "Held" gun using the weapon mods mender's aura for healing and song of swords for more damage as you can swap to the gun activate the mod and go right back to melee combat. Overall it was a rather fun video to watch someone do my preferred way of playing remnant as a challenge run
I absolutely would have used Terror Margin if I could find it, but by the time I got to the DLC, it didn't feel necessary to farm out. There are a few different rings that I would have taken for emergency uses, but I ended up running the Sagestone for the majority of it. If nothing else, it helped to fill out traits faster, though I was still missing some really handy ones by the end. Damage reduction/melee attack speed/movement speed/stamina regen/etc. I do stand by Riven though. It does less damage per hit, but the healing/damage output is still pretty fantastic. It's got speed and range on its side!
Haven't watched the full video yet but I'm predicting the dreamer fight might be an issue. I'm assuming the scythe and hero sword will be a big part of this run I was kind of right. Nice
remnant is a great game, having a blast plauing it, i agree with the statement graphic doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is fun, but there's just something about remnant that makes tge world felt kinda bland and a little bit boring, idk if its the mostly saturated color or the character/enemy design felt so smooth, although ngl there are some pretty neat world design like the desert and jungle area, it's fun
I haven't looked a ton into the sequel yet, but I have pretty high hopes. The first has some rough edges, but it's a really good game, and some time/polish spent on refining the formula could make something genuinely really special for the next title. Fingers crossed!

I always comment when I think of things, not by the end of the vid, call it a character flaw if you need.
Unarmed does look really fun, but the setup would definitely also be a lot more specific. And true to its name, Nightmare is a pain for a few different hyper specific builds.
@@SpuddyCube True indeed. By the way, the Twisted Idol I think it's called would have helped you out a lot here, since it makes your armor weigh less. Meaning you could have dodged instead of fat falling.
Had an itch for this game and decided to go for a "melee" playthrough too. Playing with Remnant from Hell mod and on hard difficulty (lowest in the mod) and so far it's hella fun, but I had to get my Hero sword to kill Claviger and I also allowed mod usage, so I didn't unequip guns
Thank you, I hope you are as well! I really like this game, and I'm not typically bothered by things on screen, but it was so constant/fast that it slowly just became painful. I can't imagine subjecting others to that.

I can see that happening with so many things on screen. And I can also see that being terrible to deal with, while also trying to avoid everything being thrown at you.
I don't know what all does/doesn't but at least a good handful of the bosses have something extra going on. The Iskal Queen for instance can be killed via the ceiling.
@@SpuddyCube oh man, I really missed a lot of bosses lol. Me and my friend kinda did one boss in each instance cause we thought there's only 1 boss in each and we never really redid zones
Depending on the path you take, you can skip an entire section of the game. I really like it, but it feels like such an odd little experience. So many strange decisions, but it adds a heck of a lot of replayability if that's your thing.
Thank you! And I would absolutely love to. I'm currently just waiting for a PC port that'll likely never come or the money/space for a PlayStation setup. I'm not good at any of the Souls games, but I'm a huge fan, and I adore the look of Bloodborne. Similarly, I would love the chance to play Demon Souls.
Finished my "melee only" yesterday. Played with Hell mod, Hard difficuly and allowed weapon mods. Was very fun at Earth, meh at Rhom, Hell at Corsus (4-6 elites every time, plus getting spawn camped by a roaming boss that is 100% bs melee only and he had a twin brother later down the road) and hilarious at Yaesha (got ring to heal from charged melee attacks and face tanked almost everything). For the final boss Dreamer was more of a threat than The Nightmare, but Nightmare's weakspot just didn't work properly so I had to chip away for like 20 minutes. Will do the Reisum DLC later, but for now I'm just farming Dark slivers with a lazy fire build
i have tank build with a hammer as my mine melee weapons, thompson as primary and revolver as secondary with both having the shield and thorn armor using the leto set
"It deals damage when you do said flop" You shouldn't have said that... 7:00 Also, you can buy all the consumable items (except a few exceptions) from this guy, that gives you dragon stone.
True, but costing a player in game resources for having something like photo sensitivity is pretty bad. I don't _think_ I ever had the flashing effect up until that point on either playthrough despite getting the bleed effect. I'm not sure if it was broken before or after, but I preferred the previous result.
@@SpuddyCube I agree and this red effect is a result of taking damage that puts you on low hp, problem is that bleed continuously damages you, which results in such flashing... it's a terrible bug. But bleed is terrible anyway because it also causes you to receive only half of the healing ;-;.
wouldn’t Margaret be more of a winnower rather than a gardener? sure, gardeners cut plants during harvest season, but a winnower’s job is to get rid of pests, and isn’t that what the enemies in Remnant FTA are?
I can't say I was previously familiar with the concept. I think there's at least a fair bit of gray area in what gardeners do/don't do, especially when considering sentient plants. That being said, I've also spent very little time around the agricultural field. So I can't say that I have a well educated stance on it.
Commenting just before watching, I’ve wanted to try a run like this myself, having seen how many perks and equipment cater specifically to using melee only, I’ll be interested to see how this ends up going
I’m amazed it’s actually possible. Skipping the bug planet was a good choice, I’m not sure it would have been do-able without any range. Also I’m proud of you for not just grinding out a Hero’s Sword to make the challenge easy, though it would have been cool if you mentioned it (if you knew about it, that is) Awesome run, it’s really cool you’re giving this great little game some love
My biggest regret is not getting a clip of having broken the Ent's legs. It sat in the air for a solid two seconds. Just floating there. _Menacingly!_ And I don't have any video evidence. Also, I wish I hadn't broken the bleed screen flashing. Still not sure what caused it, but it followed me to the very end of the game.
Before i watch this ill say no ? Even if you do use that ling ranged sword i doubt you can hit the dps on ixilis or kill dreamer... Ill be surprised if the answer is yes and if it is ill guess that it can't be done on anything higher than normal
If possible, I would suggest trying some different input methods. Verifying the game files. Possibly a fresh install. The game is... very buggy though, so it's hard to say what might fix such a thing. Sorry to hear it, because it's really nice to have to fall back on.

Edit Number 2: BRTOEHR YOU LEGEND USING THE EXACT BUILD I WAS TALKING ABOUT!
The moths broke me. I have ptsd every time i see this game.
Yet Another Incredible Video!!
First comment and like! Hey spuddy! Hope you’re having a great day!
Also thank you for not showing the red flashing footage for photosensitivity!
Thank you, I hope you are as well!
I really like this game, and I'm not typically bothered by things on screen, but it was so constant/fast that it slowly just became painful. I can't imagine subjecting others to that.
@@SpuddyCube today is pretty solid my dude! Especially since I got to watch your vid waking up!
honestly I’ve never done well with flashing images due to color vision issues and eye sensitivity so I’m thankful when any creator skips the painful part.
Soo this game is basically earth after war started the apocalipse and get locked by the charred concil, the human are alone trying to survive while death was trying to get war name cleaned and before fury started her quest in darksiders 3
5:13 in the lore, Leto made the portal as an escape plan i think
If so, that's an escape plan with some weird philosophical questions regarding what makes the self.
@@SpuddyCube yea leto wasnt known for his sanity, he made the armor to make a last stand against the root and to allow the other scientists to escape the lab
Love the writing.
5:27 the teleporter was never finished as Leto died before it was finished. Basically the root broke into the lab before he could finish it
i remember when that dlc first came out there was a bug atleast on ps4 where haarsgaards attacks would cause the game to stutter immenseley, felt like playing a bullet hell without knowing where id end up on the screen
I can see that happening with so many things on screen. And I can also see that being terrible to deal with, while also trying to avoid everything being thrown at you.
I one time beat it using a fist build, extremely fun but I had to skip guardians to complete the run
God learning that you could break the ents feet couldve saved me an hour of time slamming head against the treeman
@@SpuddyCube it would've been nice, we saw the branching paths and chose 1 path to follow
I need to do a fresh run of this. I got to the end boss and i feel so underpowered and missed like half the bosses somehow
Leto flop only when lmao but melee is my favorite playstyle in this game
Really good video would love to see a bloodborne challenge video someday 😅?
6:54 YOU HAD 8 BANDAGES MY GUY WHAT MEAAAAAN
It actually is possible to melee the lock of the door to Ford's cell. A charged melee hit should do the trick.
im starting to think margaret might not actually be a gardener
She's a woman of many talents.
i have tank build with a hammer as my mine melee weapons, thompson as primary and revolver as secondary with both having the shield and thorn armor using the leto set
I started the game with only melee and will finish it that way, I refuse to use any ranged weapons
Surprised you didn't farm Leto's amulet or the Bright Steel Ring. I never use that Leto armor without one as i hate fat rolls.
REMNANT LET'S GOOOOOOO
Pretty sure there is an amulet on earth that lets you medium roll in full letos
There are a fair few options to at least lower encumbrance, but as with many things in Remnant, the issue is finding one.
15:00 see? you can't break it with melee, so i am forced to use ranged weapon to open this door
*ymfah pulling out the bucket*
Why am I thinking of lemons while watching this...
DO REMNANT 2!!!!!!!!! The hunters spear can be thrown so if you get the area with her first then you can use it to beat flying bosses)
"It deals damage when you do said flop"
You shouldn't have said that...
3:46 increases stam regen and reduces stam consumption
new spuddy cube yippee
I did it melee in my first playthroug only had problem with the last boss because of reach
Also I’m proud of you for not just grinding out a Hero’s Sword to make the challenge easy, though it would have been cool if you mentioned it (if you knew about it, that is)
Awesome run, it’s really cool you’re giving this great little game some love
@@msgasmdc107 It's got a REALLY good spear, insanely fast attack speed. But yeah, skipping it isn't bad.
RESPECT!!!!
Do remnant 2
I've gotta try out the summons first. The options are a bit weirder in the second game, but I love a good excuse to make summon builds in most things.
Good video
Hey, you managed to beat a challenge without completely breaking everything.
So how excited are you for the sequel?
Very much so! I'm also mildly terrified as to what the wikis are going to look like for a while on release, but all the same!
Thought you would've done the alt kill on unclean one for his melee weapon due to it doing corrosion on hit
I did get it. I just also never really ended up using it.
Now try it again only using akari set and burden of the reckless.
Needa turn up the game volume
Dunno why after i played nightmare and apocalypse on Remnant 2, the first one looks like easier than ive played before xD
Yay hitting stuff
It's a really underrated way of dealing with things in games.
is this not how it's supposed to be played?
edit: clearly not so I definitely need to play it again
Wait, my screen doesn't flash when I bleed and I don't remember having changed any settings. I have no idea why tthat's happening there
Cool
I can confirm you can
Before i watch this ill say no ? Even if you do use that ling ranged sword i doubt you can hit the dps on ixilis or kill dreamer...
Ill be surprised if the answer is yes and if it is ill guess that it can't be done on anything higher than normal
👍👍👍
I did most the game with the heros sword but now my game bugged or something my melee button only works rarely now no clue what happened
If possible, I would suggest trying some different input methods. Verifying the game files. Possibly a fresh install. The game is... very buggy though, so it's hard to say what might fix such a thing. Sorry to hear it, because it's really nice to have to fall back on.
wait there where other options?
What difficulty did you do this on?
Now play it on harder difficulty
Bro somehow manages to yell insults at an enemy yet sound slightly sorry
The answer is yes
