A few things: this game doesn't track lies, it tracks your humanity. Telling Antonia that there is a resemblance between her and the painting gets you humanity even though it's the truth.
You CAN pet the cat, depending on your humanity. At max it jumps on you and you give it a hug.

I'm ironically not sure if it's true, but I was told that the opposite prompt was the truthful answer there. Which felt... wrong on so many levels. I feel as though I've been robbed of love from a virtual friend.

@@SpuddyCubeif you tell her that she looks like she does in the painting that would be the „nice“ thing to do as youre complimenting her, its also the lie because shes aged so obviously she doesnt look the way she did. if you tell her theres no resemblance, thats the „heartless“ truth (although there is still resemblance imo) and doesnt contribute to your humanity

@@SpuddyCube theres another example, but theres slight spoilers: Guy has you go find the body of his wife. You find her, she's a puppet. Behind her corpse, written out in her fluids is I love you.
You can tell the guy the puppet wrote that message, which is the truth and gets you humanity, or lie., saying there was nothing there. Getting you no humanity.

It does track lies. Which is evident if you look at your shadows nose after telling only lies, additionally, you can only get the golden lie weapon if you have told enough lies. Conversely you can achieve the rise of p ending based on humanity, which is gained by lies.

Indeed, many choices are lies and truths, but there are plenty without a truth. Just a human choice and puppet choice.
Often times telling the truth is the human choice, such as with Polendia and Eugenie.
I think a lot of people are blinded by their precognitions of Pinocchio, as well as the first few choices being binary lie vs. truth.

@@SpuddyCubeHumans lie. Sometimes to benefit us, sometimes others. Lying brings empathy. Sometimes you have to ask yourself, is it truly better if you lie? This game brought many of those scenarios. Like when you give the Weeping Lady a puppet baby after finding out her baby never made it… she was truly happy. Do you really have the right to take that away? The game lets you decide and you can lie. You can leave her with the true joy she feels she’s found. Knowing it wasn’t worth the pain she’d die with otherwise within this brutal, devastating world of Krat. Lying makes us human.

      @@SpuddyCube
The game isn't saying that lying makes you more human... I mean... It is... There are certain lies (not of all of them) who do, in fact, increase humanity, but that's not the full picture.
All the lies that increase humanity come from empathy, the protagonist is bending the truth because he knows its what will make the characters feel better.
As opposed to a machine who cannot have empathy and would just speak the objective truth.
The game even highlights that by saying the machines are specifically incapable of lying.
So every time you disobey this rule for machines, for the sake of empathy which machines don't have, you ARE becoming more human.

It is one thing to learn every aspect of a game, go through numerous playthroughs to learn every attack, item, upgrade effectivity, and then get to the point to create a challenge run to challenge yourself. But to create this barrier to ones own self, on the first go about, shows tenacity, strength, and true honor in the face of adversity. It feels like such a strange game to me in that it's full of so much polish and shine, but also so many sharp edges hiding under the surface. I know the devs are already doing some things to help with the general difficulty curve, but I think some of the issues are kind of fundamental to the game itself.
Looking back at it now, I really did enjoy it. I'm not sure if I'll be able to revisit the title, but it's one that I would genuinely like to. During the playthrough though, I know there were quite a few points that were very low. A lot of things adapted from Souls that felt very much like the game expects you to be a veteran of the series and will kick you around if you're not. Even if you are, some of it just feels unfair/inconsistent.
I stand by that the game is genuinely good. I think there are more positives than negatives, but it's been a long time since I felt quite so divided on a game.
One day, I really would like to start streaming these sorts of things in the more traditional sense. When circumstances allow, I would be able to talk things through more as they're happening, and I think it'd be a lot of fun.

For the second fury Slam attack you can roll through the legs to the other side, again giving you more time for counter. I think the fury moves are actually greatly beneficial to the game, and that's coming from a person who never parried in their playthrough. Just takes some trial and error.

Fun thing is that NG+ does reset it's appearance so it goes from golden and covered in leaves to just a long brown stick. Just aesthetic but it is funny.

They also help. A lot. I've gone back and watched your videos more than once in the past because it just...helped keep my mind from spiraling. So. I haven't even finished it yet but thank you. I know it's just a nice coincidence that you posted right when I needed it but your channel in general existing helps me out...a lot. So thank you. Each is made with a lot of love and passion. It's hard to know for sure sometimes, so it means a lot to hear so directly what that translates to. I absolutely empathize though with not always feeling up to leaving comments, so it's both welcome and appreciated.
I think one of the core reasons I love what I do so much is getting the chance to help, even if only as a bit of a distraction for a little while. So truly... Thank you. The irony is the best good ending is locked behind lying, wile I do agree with you that lies are a bad thing MOST of the time, this game does show some good examples of a “good lie” ones that can bring comfort and possibly bring people closer or help others with their “ending.” Although most of the lies in the world are to cause harm that doesn’t mean all of them are we’d appreciate honesty but the truth can hurt just as much if not More that a lie.

I think it really depends a lot on perspective. A comfortable lie stops being comfortable when you find out the truth. I feel that even well meaning lies can devalue things. If I'm always told that I'm funny regardless, then what meaning is there behind a genuine laugh?
I also feel like the system lacks nuance. While I realize that it may be the point, lies generally felt very idealistic. A beautiful, wonderful, even unbelievable statement. Where the "truth" was incredibly cold, and often just cruel. The painting choice being the biggest standout for me. I was told that the truth is "there's nothing left" which isn't in itself a true statement. You can be honest and still be constructive. For a truth playthrough, why does the P in Lies of P have to stand for Prick?

Literally stops it dead in its tracks with a clear and open opportunity for a heavy attack with even some of the slowest weapons in the game. So, at least they made sure the one attack you basically have to perfect parry rewards you significantly for it?

Is the poetic segments a thing in all these challenge playthroughs? Not necessarily bad per say, I was just caught quite off guard hearing it in a souls-like challenge run, granted Lies of P is in my eyes a very good narrative, in which I adored many of the characters, quests, art direction, and just a lot of its story telling tools, but, usually this kinda content I find is very memey, and vocal of the challenge, or lack of challenge when it shapes up to be that way, which it kept that to a degree, but the poetic bits were cool to see nonetheless, also huge props on this being your first actual playthrough, while I say it might dampen the overall experience, its still admirable regardless.
Lies of P mechanic, and sorta story spoilers below.
Oh and I personally found the lying system cool, while the impact of doing either or, reward wise isn't always... That crazy, I found it from a narrative perspective great, and in its enclosed universe here, it makes a lot of sense, it being a defining trait to separate a human from a limited construct such as a puppet/robot, because in a setting where the end of times equivalent is happening for the inhabitants of Krat, everyone all over the city is dying, witnessing others random, and beloved ones alike pass away, in varying gruesome fashions, every corner of this grandiose city falling to a state of chaos, these people need any amount of hope to muster up the will to keep going, this being provided by the lies, sparing their emotions, delivering on a request of one who has passed away, and even comforting ones who are on the decline, facing death regardless of anything. The Lies feeling very tactful, and I mean I completed my run not too long ago, and achieved the "best" ending pretty much only choosing options I would've already chose, mostly, but thats just my thoughts, I have my own grievances, and don't think the game is perfect, but I want the game to do well, as I enjoyed my playthrough quite a lot.

Some of my closest friends are generally not great at games, but I think they could handle something like Dark Souls given enough time. While I enjoyed Lies of P, it's a lot more demanding of the player, and I think it only really starts being so demanding a lot later on. Like, with Sekiro, you know pretty quickly that the skill required is really high/specific. This being largely because every problem more or less has one solution.

It’s less about lies = humanity and more about how breaking free of the chains put on the covenant. Puppets can’t lie. They can only tell the truth and nothing but the truth. As they are puppets. They are controlled. But lying means you’re not under control. You can make your own choices. You can be who you are, without the need of Giepettos strings weighing you down.
But I will agree, lying = humanity is a very concerning message. But I don’t think that was the one they were trying to tell.
The story is more about breaking free of the bonds that chain you. That’s why killing people can give you humanity. It’s not that you become more human by killing someone, it’s that you lose the control you master put on you because like I said, puppets are puppets. They cannot lie, nor are they allowed to kill. The message is odd but the story is kinda… heartwarming.

  • @Yaeza31
    @Yaeza31 11 месяцев назад +4

So, after getting to the end of the video, I have a few things to say.
    1. I wish challenge runners would do at least 1 normal playthrough before doing a challenge run. Hearing you complain about gameplay aspects that are perfectly normal and function fine in your average run is... painful. And annoying. Because those mechanics are only complain worthy to you because you're playing the game in a harder way.
    2. I do agree with you about fury attacks. They're annoying and don't need to be as punishing as they are. Even when playing the game as intended, they're a definite un-fun struggle and you can only avoid the damage if you perfect block them.
    3. I wish you had used a weapon to at least block. I don't think blocking would have ruined the spirit of the run, as it doesn't deal damage, it just lets you take less damage or in the case of a perfect block, no damage at all! There's a lot of cool mechanics around it, too, but the main one is that many enemies' weapons actually get broken if you perfect block them enough times. Some bosses, too. And Laxasia's lightning bolt attacks can be sent back at her if you perfect block them. The Perfect Block window for those is actually pretty forgiving, too.
    4. Each enemy type has an elemental weakness. Puppets - Shock! Corpses (those are the zombies, but their official enemy type name is Corpses) - Fire, unsurprisingly. Humans - Acid, but the weird thing here is that most of the Alchemists, starting from the workshop tower as that's where you first encounter them, are classified as humans in terms of resistances and weaknesses, despite looking like Corpses, so Acid is actually the strongest type to use against them. That includes the Door Guard, Laxasia and even Manus, even though Manus super looks like a Corpse type.
    5. I would super highly recommend going back and really paying attention to the story of The Fox and The Black Cat. I'm not sure how much you did pay attention and if you think they're actually just manipulative assholes, but if you don't plan on doing any casual playthroughs or going back and paying attention to their story, I can tell you what it is. Suffice it to say, they're more a product of their environment than you might initially think.
If you do another challenge run of this game, I would recommend an Advance only run. Elemental weapons and stat only! It would be a good way for you to experience the game as intended while still being a challenge run! All that being said, great video, I enjoyed it and I enjoy your words of wisdom and affirmation.

    • @Winasaurus
      @Winasaurus 2 месяца назад

Seems to be a common problem with a lot of "challenge runners" is that they play the game maybe once, then do a challenge or mod and complain about things that just aren't an issue for anyone who has played the game even a reasonable amount. I remember seeing an Elden Ring level 1 run and the guy was whining about how elemental damage chips through good shields because margit was wiping him and all I could think was 1. Roll, 2. You can get a +7 somber weapon before margit, blocking shouldn't even be on your mind. And basically the whole run was stuff like that, him whining about a non-issue that even a tiny bit of lateral thinking would get around. "The giant just kills me in one hit and has tons of health" then get the physick/aromatics that let you take more hits, and use a bleed weapon since that does % damage. Once you beat Morgott, you have 4 talisman slots and rivers of blood, nothing ever should be a problem after that. (Plus mimic tear, plus aromatics, plus bubbletear, etc)
