  • Who are the Garifuna and how did they get to Central America? The Garifuna people, also known as Garinagu, are an ethnic and cultural group with a unique history that combines elements of African, Indigenous Caribbean, South American, and European cultures. Their history is intertwined with the Caribbean and Central America, particularly in regions like Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and parts of the Caribbean coast of Central America.

    The Garifuna were NEVER slaves. Please read our comments below. Some were in the Caribbean before British slavery started, while others ran from the ships as soon as they landed in the Caribbean and joined forces with Indigenous Blacks on the islands to fight the British and help others escape. My mother is part Garifuna. Unfortunately, many Garifuna schools are now being run by white missionaries and they are creating the history books, and a new narrative is being developed or pushed that they were decedents of slavery. This is not true. Please don't push WS talking points.

      You’re completely full of cap. The Garifuna were never enslaved, their oral ancestral history has been passed down by their forefathers and is not some white missionary indoctrination. Just because it doesn’t align with your “we ain’t Africans” narrative doesn’t give you the right to tell them that their ancestors are wrong. Like who do y’all think y’all are and what’s with the anti African sentiment.

      Those people are descendants of Mayans Aztec Incans and Olmecs whom also were indigenous Negros of the Americas, or their heads would've been in Africa also
      Their ancestors are on the Bonampak Murals, they're descended from Nagas and not Nuccaz riding in the belly of a ship with Kunta Kinte, the Americas been known as a Negro continent to the old Eastern Nations since the time Plato lived, the stories of Atlantis Giants & Amazons originate here in Ancient America, where the oldest and most pyramids and signs of civilization exist and 90% of Africa's crops originated here that Naga Mayans brought there
      First settlers of Egypt were Mayans, Nubians might've helped build it but it's of Mayan origin
      Those people like the vast majority of both Black Americans and Caribbean's are not Africans, nor did Europeans bring millions of Africans to the Americas, few hundred thousand maybe but not millions cause if you read those shipping tables on slavevoyages.org you'll see more in-trading of the indigenous Negroes throughout the Americas as opposed to the importation of enslaved Africans which the bulk of them wound up in Brazil, so any of us carry any actual lineages to those enslaved Africans ARE A MINORITY AMONG THE BLACK POPULACE IN THE AMERICAS!!!
      Check those tables the embarkations & disembarkations, that's your empirical evidence and from Virginia to the Caribbean we're all West Indians cause North America is India Superior on old maps and everything east of the Mississippi River from Virginia to the Caribbean is THE WEST INDIES!!!
      The trade started here in 1492, when Salvador Fernandes Zarco aka Christopher Columbus took those Caribe's on his return trip to Europe a decade before the enslavement of any Africans and more Eumelanated Niijii's were sent to Angola Zaire Ghana Guinea Cape Verde and vastly outnumbered any enslaved African exported to the Americas

    • @GaryTisdaleFungkSta1
      @GaryTisdaleFungkSta1 8 месяцев назад

      @nubiamancy The vast majority of Blacks in the Americas that were enslaved were of indigenous lineage and though it may have been a "New World" to most Europeans, this continent been known to the Eastern Nations of Old
      Thus it is a positive fact that many ancient nations of the East, such as the Libyans, Moors, Etruscans, Phoenicians, Hindus etc. had heard of America, or knew nearly as much of it, as we did of Australia and Polynesia 100 years ago. It is certain that America contained anciently, as even now, a crowd of distinct Nations and tribes; some of which were quite civilized, perhaps as much as the Spaniards led by Columbus; the others more barbarous, but not entirely savage. There were but few, if any, real savages in America, dwelling in woods without social ties; most of them were wandering tribes of fishermen and hunters.
      The Americans had long before Columbus, large cities built of stone bricks or wood with walls ditches temples palaces some of which were of immense size and population. One of them Otolum near Palenque was 28 miles long equal to Thebes, Babylon, and Kinoj in size and monuments. Nearly all the ancient science and useful primitive arts were known in America, as well as commerce and navigation, symbolic and alphabetic writing, nearly all the Asiatic religions etc. The most civilized nations had even colleges and universities, canals and paved roads, splendid temples and monuments.

      Deuteronomy 28:64 - And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
      For when we come back to Our God in repentance
      Deuteronomy 30:3 - That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee. If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:

    In the diaries of Columbus doctor it is written that they encountered black African people on several places on their journeys. In Saint Vincent, Florida and Costa Rica for example. The Olmec statues of central America depict African people. It is a myth that Columbus was the first to "discover" the Americas. The Africans traveled up and down to the America's for centuries before Columbus. The Garifuna people therefore could well be descendants from Africans who were not brought as slaves, but ended up in the Americas on their own accord. I like that attention is given to this group of people, but it is a pity that it is told again and again from the White European perspective which most of the time is incorrect or at least incomplete.

    It’s very very interesting but some facts are wrong. They came from Mali. They were on St. Vincent Island, which was their island Christopher Columbus landed there in St. Vincent and that is not even the original name. Christopher Columbus named it St. Vincent but the people stayed there and live in intertwine with the Indian People so they enter twine with them. They were never slaves when he went to war with the British. They won that war the first war but then the British came back with the French that’s when they lost the more they were taken captive but also, they were exiled as well on that shit that they were exiled. They brought in Jamaican slaves to St. Vincent‘s the year who people were never slaved, these people were warriors who lost at war the second time they fought and won the first time they were exiled 6000 gear food people that were exiled. Don’t get them mixed up with slaves because they were never slaves. Garafu people left Africa and came to St. Vincent‘s they were from Mali, and yes they were exiled and sent across the ocean to Honduras were only 630 survive the travel so please get your information straight. They were not slaves in Africa. They were brought there as incorrect data. Thank you.

      And I love to tell the story from the aspect of people originally from that country tells their story. This is their story, not colonizers, not the British colonizers who felt these people fit in a certain category. Our stories all of us should be told by us not the outside enemy at that time, and then I have my mother and my grandmother and her mother and my people that lived on that island this group of people or a highbred group as well. It’s it’s making it appear giving no justification I would take the word of a native, a person that lives there, with a hand handed down information about their people, then an outsider Who wants to look good they are story and information is irrelevant and we need to start remembering that and perhaps at a time we come together to get that island back because the British felt they had no right to be there and this is what the British did around the world which was wrong The people that are originally from St. Vincent Island should come together and fight for restitution for the harm cause these colonizers so I will not tell the colonizer story because they’re always going to make their self look good. I will always give the respect and honor to the inhabitants from Saint Vincent And they have a right to have their land back that was stolen from them and I am all for that because I’m part of that and I will always give honor to this people from the island of Saint Vincent God keep you God protect you restitution will come to you for the harm and prosecution persecution that you had suffered those that remained on the island

      @@StellaDog-ul8rr European Colonizers the ones that taught you we're all from Africa but we're not and the Mayans were the first seafarers that brought civilization to both Africa & Asia, the America's is the oldest continent and 90% of Africa's crops like corn sweet potatoes/yams etc... originated here in the Americas
      The first Egypt is Tameri in the Yucatan and Caral in Peru is the oldest sign of civilization and the ancient Greeks referred to us as West Ethiopians, we've had the original Amazons in existence, that the Spaniards encountered in Martinique & Monserrat described as Black Warrior Women with their left breast cut off to become better archers, the Americas was known as one of the 3 Ethiopia's or 3 India's, since ancient times, Europeans might not have known since their the last group of people in the Eastern Hemisphere to be civilized but the Vatican knew and to this day they along with the Smithsonian Institute have hidden lots of artifacts
      Columbus seeking a route to India which was known as Hindustan and to it's own people as Bharrat was never his destination, he was seeking the continent spoken of in one of the books taken out of the Bible cause he was seeking the Lost Tribe of Israel and believed this was the Holy Land, we were indoctrinated into believing we're African to take the land and our resources and most of us doing our genealogy are finding indigenous and some Huguenots but very little are finding African and DNA isn't a way of tracing one's lineage cause they'll have to dig up your family to do so, most Blacks of Central America as well as the Southeast USA are of Mayan descent that migrated out of Mexico and the Yucatan region, most folks knew this stuff before the redaction and revision of our lineage and history during Reconstruction, Negroes were in the Americas 10,000 years before Mongoloids crossed the Bering Strait and the explorers documented most of the civilized tribes from the Southeast to the Caribbean had customs similar to the ancient Hebrews and those block text found among the Mound Indians are Phoenician Hebrew text
      That's why it's said we've got a "Hidden History" we're not of Ham, even your bible states the dark races being of Ham except the Negroes, which is us and they found some of us carry a "Y" chromosome older than Africans.
      The vast majority of Blacks in the Americas prior to the European invasion aren't Africans, even Moors originated here in the Americas and migrated over there but fled further into Africa during the Roman persecution, which also is why Columbus changed his name cause he's a Portuguese Sephardic Jew, that the Spaniards were persecuting to convert to Catholicism, he's from a noble house born Salvador Fernandes Zarco in Cuba Portugal

    Sir, please do not use WS talking points that believe all Blacks outside of Africa were slaves. The Garifuna people were never slaves. Many are indigenous to the Caribbean and Central America, while others escaped from the slave ships 'as soon as the ships' landed on the island of St. Vincent Island. When the ships landed on the island of St. Vincent, many joined forces with the Arawak Indians (black indigenous peoples) and fraught the British, who continued to import slaves. As the British feared they would continue to help others escape, they decided to do treaties and pleaded with them to leave the Caribbean and go to areas they controlled in Central America. Like all the British promises with native peoples, they also broke this one, and some Garifuna were captured later on, but the Garifuna people (collectively) were never slaves. I've noticed lately that the narrative is being changed to say these people were descendants of slaves. Notice that they still look Black, although they are a combination of native and African bloodlines; they look Black because the natives with whom they intermarried were also Black. These are the natives Christopher Columbus referenced and what Ivan Van Sertima mentioned in his book (they came before Columbus).

      Being of Kalinago/Carib decent..I have to disagree with your last statement. The indigenous people of the Caribbean are not black. Different race. Though centuries of intermarrying many look predominantly black. But the original people are not. I know because I am one and I live in a Caribbean island that is home to the some of the last pure indigenous people.

      @@smhunney8266 with all due respect many were Black and this was referenced in Columbus' writings and also the research. In the books (given to us by England), they said the Arawaks were very dark skin and the Caribs lighter (brown) skin natives but what they left out was the Arawaks, Taino and many groups were Black natives who intermarried with other groups. We will likely not agree with this but I do have the research and local knowledge.

      Nice narratives ❤. I appreciate all the minds that put forth stories based on their own knowledge and experiences. This is my take away. I know there are many researchers with many conclusions to present. There are many facets to the story. One reflection does not necessarily negate the other, it adds to the story. Many of us know what Van Sertima and others have said. "They came before Columbus." Yes, "They" came and met others already there on the mainland. We suppose they mingled. "They" moved from the mainland to the island, and we propose that they intermingled with others found on islands. Those on the islands were of many groups, some slaves-indigenous and, or other; some non-slave: indigenous, and or other. Then, a greater power came and displaced these mix of people. According to some it was mostly those of the darker hue who were removed. The dark descendants of black maroons-some run away slaves , some free blacks trying to stay free, various indigenous groups, and various others. They, called themselves by the name they gave themselves. Others called them other wise; Black Caribes noting their color. We then have heard that indigenous were called red or yellow. Some of us have read that the Spanish called all the new territory "West Indies" and called the described the people as "negro". I was not a witness; just reporting what I have read. Just google.
      Please note. Garri is a food tradition of West Africa
      Fauna is a term used in biology denoting all of the animal life found in a particular region.
      Also note that it was not unusual for folks long ago to call a group by a certain characteristic-- the people who live in the mountains; the people who hunt the lion; the people who worship the moon etc.
      I say all of that to say--just listen to the story of another, no need to disrespect, you may learn something. The lesson for you may be that humans have different beliefs and customs.

    Fascinating story. But one point of CORRECTION. The Garifuna are not an African People. They are Central/North Americans of mostly African Descent. They are also descended from non-African peoples, like American Indians and even Europeans. Why do you people always want to extend the US's disgusting & racist 1drop rule to the rest of the world? In most African countries, incl mine, Mixed peoples are acknowledged as such, i.e. Black + White/Asian. Not Black/African.

      FWIW: African ethnicity does not just refer to African genes, but equally to African culture, African traditions, African worldview and, most importantly, African languages as mother tongue. Otherwise Mixed or Creole. Nothing wrong with that.

      @@Junior-yt6cx you are incorrect, Garifuna is not for all black people of the Caribbean, I replied to you on the first comment but go read it and stop spreading misinformation. The name Garifuna is a new name, it never existed back then and it was the French that were the first to come in contact with them and called the les charibes noir, which translates to black Caribs. You are way off, the black Caribs are only from one island, the natives were called Kalinagos, tainos and ciboneys. The Kalinagos mixed with Africans and created the Garifuna people, Kalinagos and Garifuna still live in st. Vincent today but most of the Garifuna people were exiled to Roatan, then made their way to Honduras, Belize etc, it was there that the name Garifuna was given to them and them only.

      @djoseph5130 3 месяца назад

      @@Junior-yt6cx precisely, they were talking about that group of black people as at the time that was the only black civilization in the Caribbean. They lived side by side, both French and British wrote about these encounters. They then befriended the French and allowed them to sell on the island in 1719 and that was the first time white people settled on the island while the Caribbean was already fully colonized. The French lost the island to the British by the signing of the treaty of Paris. Every other island was colonized and there was no free black civilization on the other Islands that the Europeans encountered.
