The difference is football players still get paid even if they’re hurt and not playing. Back in the day if a wrestler couldn’t work he wasn’t getting paid so they’d work hurt.

Playing on contract from age 16-38, they have to heal injuries properly for the sake of their careers, same goes for all competitive athletes, look at an average wrestler's life span, they die very young because of the punishment they put their bodies through. Working through injuries isn't though, it's plain stupid.
