$900 Budget 357 SBC Full Build - Cheap Cammed Chevy Engine!

- I threw together this budget 40 over 350 small block Chevy over a period of two weeks. It was a lot of fun so hopefully I can do more builds similar to this in the future.
Every engine ever built is a "budget" engine! Just like people say they are "going on a diet", they are already on a diet, they are simply changing to a different diet, but everyone is on some diet or another!

I like seeing low budget builds I have a 357 complete that I have to go through also I have a 406 and a 415 I'll more then likely build the 406 this winter I just want to put 6 inch rods in ìt so I'll probably buy a complete scat rotating assembly and have a nice short block I will put a set of aftermarket heads on it and a solid roller. Nothing to crazy.

I WOULD LOVE TO BUILD A BUDGET 350 CHEVY. WITH 350 HORSEPOWER. I AM STILL DOING MY HOMEWORK. AND DROP IT IN THE EDSEL.
A set of Vortec heads, a mild cam, and a good intake is all it would take to be really close to that number.
Intake manifold is completely inappropriate for those heads cam and carb BUT free is free 👍🏻.
You can put an EPS on the engine whenever you feel like it and the good thing about that is that it will feel like a huge modification lol.
I’ve always run dual planes in the past so I’m actually looking forward to see what a single plane is like, even though it’ll never see the rpm necessary to take advantage of it.
@@CarGuyV8 Ya know that minimal torque you get under 3500 with an sbc and a dual plane? Yeah, its gonna be soggier down there with a single plane. If the car you're putting it in is light enough, like 3200lbs or less, and you have a 4.10 gear you might see low 14s, which isn't bad for cleaning up a bunch of used stuff and throwing a cam in it. Wanna take bets on ETs?
Used to be most of the chevy guys ran 350s just like that where I lived and raced in the 90s, they kinda didn't like me and my Pontiacs.
@@SweatyFatGuy I love a well done Pontiac. I have no guess when it comes to the ET this’ll run in my swb Sierra. I’m sure it’d be more than 15 though. I have a decent stall converter so that’ll help at least.
@@CarGuyV8 heavy vehicles like trucks really don't like single plane intakes and big cams.. :) Lots of stall will just heat the fluid. 2400 or so, 3.73 or 3.42 gear, will be a fun truck and not burn things up.
I'm working on my 76 C10, getting a 6.0 swap, with a drop in cam, and 4L80. It goes in the shop as soon as the Cuda is off the lift, well and I get another winter vehicle running. I gave up on trying to get the sbc to not leak and make enough power to be useful for what I do, and my trucks all get LS engines now. Can't find anyone who wants the sbcs I have sitting around, they all want the LS up here.
I would put my Pontiacs in everything, but now I have enough cars for all my engines. Have a friend who put a 455 Pontiac in a 4x4 OBS, it liked to break u joints, but would go anywhere and hauled whatever he put behind it. Another guy I know who owns AHRA has a Buick 455 in his Suburban, awesome truck.
Low buck is the most fun, seeing how fast junk will go with used parts thrown at it is a great way to spend your time. Been doing that for a long time.
@@SweatyFatGuy Don’t scrap those engines! There’s still people that play around with them. Several of my friends and I still play with the small blocks. Funny enough my local machine shop buys good roller Ford 302s and good roller 350 cores to build and resale. He says he can’t keep them on the shelves.
I do have a 5.3 Gen 3 engine that I’ve been thinking of using for a car in the future, but we’ll see.

It'd be a real shame to put this budget build in front of an auto tragic.
