The sweet potato rice reminds me of my mom's version. My mom would put washed rice in the rice cooker instead of a stone bowl, and put cubed sweet potatoes (orange, purple, and white) to cook with the rice. It was really sweet, nutritious, delicious, and colorful. Thank you for reminding me about this simple, delicious, and nutritious meal maangchi!
I've been watching your videos for the past few weeks now....going through all the old ones. You know what I love about Maangchi? She's not afraid to take a HUUUUGE bite of something! Just completely stuff her mouth! Not worrying about how dainty she looks...just wanting to get a mouthful of flavour! Love that!
Maangchi is so cute! Her video helps me a lot when I first move to UK. I miss my hometown food so much but eating restaurant is so expensive in London ad I never cooked before and don't know how. It is her video helps me that I still can taste hometown food when I live abroad. Love her!
Hi Maangchi, I'm making this for lunch today! Thank you for the delicious recipes. I'm having a hard time lately because my sister is struggling with addiction and is very sick and I've been having a hard time eating from stress. Your recipes are helping me get through it and to eat and helping me to remember to stay positive. Thank you!
hi maangchi you know because we are very poor when im small i have 8 siblings so that the rice is going to enough for us my mother put some sweet potatoes in the steam rice & we eat with stewed fish we like it so much,,,,
I'm eating this right now, and it is so delicious. I think I cooked it a tad too long, because the potatoes have gone all mushy, but it still tastes like a dream. I also didn't have red pepper flakes for the sauce, so I used red pepper paste and a dash of cayenne. Wonderful recipe! 감사합니다!
At first I wasn't sure how a salty sauce would go with sweet potatoes but this was very tasty! Definitely for anyone who likes salty sweet things. The flavor was very balanced and the texture of the rice reminded me of Vietnamese xoi (sweet glutinous rice). Now I need to make some perilla kimchi to go with it :]
Dear Maangchi, I'm Afni from Malaysia. I'm now studying in Illinois, US. This December I'm going to spend Christmas and New Year in New York. If there is by any chance, I really hope we could meet. I've been learning how to cook Korean dishes by watching your videos. I love all your cooking videos. I would love to share a famous Malaysian dish with you, if we could meet, it would be an honour. If we couldn't that's fine. I fell in love with Korean food thank to you! Keep those videos coming in!
I already liked Maangchi because of how passionate you are about food. It's wonderful to see that you are also passionate about helping people! I hope I get to meet you one day if you come to Australia!
The sweet potato taste so good with rice. I think the sauce taste so much better with raw tomatoes and cooked onions. I add them on the rice and it taste so good. Thank you so much for this recipe.
I love you Maangchi. Not only do you make wonderful food and teach others how to do so but you are just an amazing person to boot! Of course I signed the petition and even passed it along on my facebook page :).
Sweet potatoes are a good source of vitamin A, and most poor countries are left eating mostly rice, so adding sweet potatoes is a great idea. By the way I am definitely going to try this recipe. I love rice and I love sweet potatoes. Great combo Maangchi!🥰
Dear Maangchi, I'm going to make this for my family as soon as possible, so i was thinking about if you have any ideas for a main dish based on either meat or soup that would go well with this?^^ Love your videos and my family is addicted to your mandoos!:D
Maangchi I'm eating it right now!!! It's delicious and the seasoning sauce is amazing too! I finally got to make a korean meal since I have these ingredients thank you for sharing this recipe:)!
Hi Maangchi, can i use rice cooker to cook the rice together with the sweet potatoes instead of using the stone pot? Will this affect the taste or quality? I'm not really good in cooking and i find most cooking videos from other websites are too complicated for me. Thank you for sharing your cooking videos...i begin to enjoy cooking after watching and subscribing for your cooking videos...you are so cute...
Wooow, Maangchi, this was so easy and yet soooo delicious and satisfying. This will definitely be a part of my regular repertoire from now on. Thanks for sharing great food and positive energy with all of us 😋🤩
i love this recipe, i never know what to do with sweet potatoes other than bake them for a sweet mash or casserole This is a nice refreshing way to utilize sweet potatoes!
Here is something I started doing. You can put the white bottom part of the green onion in water and have an endless supply of green onion. It grows so fast! you can also do this with chives and other veggies!
omg this looks so good! this looks simple to make for college students like me! i like the fact that korea has many vegetarian/vegan dishes that aren't normally recognized as vegetarian/vegan! and it is also very delicious!
Maangchi... THANK YOU for sharing your cooking skills and talents to the world. You are so sweet, Many blessings to you and your family. A viewer from Mexico :)
what a great recipe! I have been making one-pot rice recipes with whatever produce and/or canned veg I have, and it's a great way to achieving a quick, healthy meal. 감사합니다!
Ha, enjoyed your demeanor and approach to cooking, and yes, it looks delicious. I lived in Gyeongju and Seoul many years ago, and I still cook Korean food. I love the flavours, the sauces, the pastes. Thanks!
Hi Maangchi, I really enjoy all of your recipes and all the recipes i've tried they come out successfully. Today I feel like a hot seaweed soup but i also want porridge at the same time. Thus I have some of the sweet potato rice left over in the fridge, so i made a sweet potato seaweed porridge which basically seaweed soup cooked together w the rice. It turns out soooo good. Thank for this recipe and also the seaweed soup one.
My mom taught me to use the rice water when making dwen-jang jjigae (bean paste stew) instead of using just water. It gives it a richer flavor and slightly thicker texture. You could also use it to wash your face. I never tried it but I heard it makes your skin softer! ;)
I am so thankful for your videos i am cooking them for my family i am so glad that my family likes your recipes and please can you make more dish for vegan diets pls thank you so much. I really your cooking thanks.
I love sesame oil too! I was about to make dinner last night and had to switch it up at the last minute b/c I was out! Love this recipe and you are so darn CUTE!

Made this two years ago when you posted this video. My sweet potato rice didn't turn out well because I burnt it ;( but the sauce was AWESOME! ate it with regular rice. I only made this that one time, but I woke up today thinking about this dish randomly and so I searched until I found this video again and so glad you still have it up! Going to make this once the grocery store opens today to buy ingredients as Its 4:20 am right now and Im hungry watching all your vids *droolz*
Love both you and all your recipes Maangchi, I shall make this soon and since I live in an area that has several great Asian Markets I plan on using Japanese sweet potatoes which look like they are the same thing as Korean. I might even try it with Okinawan sweet potatoes which would probably be lovely also thanks to the purple color.
A really great water saving tip that I learned from my Korean mother-in-law is to use that white rice water to water your plants instead of pouring it down the sink. It's good for plants. ^^
The rice will slide through the openings, especially uncooked rice it can slide through easily. Also when hand washing it can break them into smaller pieces and push then through the holes too.
Hi Maangchi. I love you and your videos. I want to make some of this food but I cant because we have not all the ingredients here in Turkey. I cant found it here. I wish I live in Korea so I can eat all this food. It looks so delicious and I love it how you describe the meals. Love you very much. God bless you.
The dish looks so delicious and packed with flavor , also isn't it so cute when i figure out the little song in the begining actually name "sweet potato"(praiz ft chidinma) ??? :)))))

great idea! If you make it with chestnuts instead of sweet potato, it should be called "bambap" pronounced baam baap. baam is chestnuts in Korean.
Thanks a lot! Happy cooking!
This looks yummy and healthy.
