    Pesarattu: soak a cup of full mung bean in cold water overnight (I prefer soaking about 24 hours, taking care to wash and replace water until I can see sprouting just beginning). Grind it into smooth paste with an inch of ginger, a clove of garlic (optional), a green chilli(if you like a little kick), not too thin or very thick. Add salt, half a tsp cumin. Optionally you can add half of a finely chopped onion, a wedge of chopped cabbage finely chopped or a small carrot grated. Make pan cake in a creased skillet or frying pan using generous 2 tsp oil around the edge. Replaces omelette.

    When I first saw the video it piqued my interest because it was unusual. I just made this and it surprised me how delicious it is! I used red lentils. My advice is keep the burner on low-med and turn it down after the flip. I burned some of it because the patty was thinner on one side and the stove on too high. However, I was able to slice the layer of burned part off easily once it cooled. I used a favorite spaghetti sauce on top. It was good with or without sauce. I will definitely be making this again.

    This was an interesting experience -- I made this after reading comments, used 3/4 c plant milk and divided in two portions and it worked perfectly. Doubled spices as the volume seemed to need it. Didn’t taste any heat so that needs tweaking for our preference. Used marinara with fresh basil and oregano on top - chili flakes would have been good. Hubs said I could have served it with syrup instead as it seemed like a hoecake. I think this has great potential with different spice combinations, making sure to add plenty as it’s so neutral. Indian with curry spices, topped with yogurt and coriander leaves, Mexican with sour cream, salsa and cilantro. Greek, etc. Thank you for the inspiration with this recipe!

    I used a 9.5 inch skillet and the pancake flip totally failed: after 7 minutes on medium, the bottom was cooked but I lost half the "uncooked" top material to the floor when I attempted to plate-flip it (it was way too much material). I would recommend splitting the volume and making 2 pancakes out of this recipe, not 1. The flavor/texture was good on the remaining half that was salvaged and fully cooked.

    • @WeCookVegan
      @WeCookVegan  8 месяцев назад +8

      Hello Sarah and thank you for sharing your feedback and experience making the dish! I have checked and my pan is 10 inch (26cm) and it works fine. It's more about the quality of non stick pan rather than size of it. although you are right, you might find it easter to split the volume and make 2 pancakes. Glad you like the flavor and texture. Sending you my best wishes! 🌞 😊 💖

    • @thunderverna
      @thunderverna 7 месяцев назад +10

      I'm going to split it anyways as it's just me eating 😢 and I'm in the process of trying to retrain myself to eat real food. I've been eating just crap for ages, cookies and pretzels, no nutritional value at all, since my
      my partner died. This looks like something easy, where I have all the ingredients on hand and would actually eat this.
      Tomorrow! Thank you.

    • @inashamsia
      @inashamsia 5 месяцев назад +1

      might be the heat you are using is too low, the upper part needs to be halfway cooked before you flip. Or maybe your pan burns the bottom easily, maybe a thicker bottom?

    Just made this. I sprouted the lentils for three days first. I am not vegan so I added two eggs hoping to get it a bit more fluffy. I also used a cast iron pan so the flipping didn't go so well. It stuck to the pan. In the end, it was not a nice cake but mushy sections that I browned on both sides. Super tasty. Especially with sprouting the lentils it made a lot, so I have the "batter" in the fridge to cook tomorrow. Thanks. The beauty in how you film is a great inspiration for when I do my own cooking videos!

    ❤❤❤ thank you for sharing such a simple yet nutritious recipe.
    And your sweet potato peeler.... it's amazing, can you pls tell me where i can get a similar one to achieve the julienne cut?

      Hello Damian and Elaina and thank you for watching my video! 🙏 🥰 So pleased you like the recipe. I use OXO julienne peeler. Most likely you can find it online. It's certainly available in the UK where I live. You can also find other brands of julienne peelers online if you do not find the OXO one. Sending you my best wishes! 🌞 😊 💖

    I had been wondering if there was a good vegan alternative to Spanish omelette/tortilla, and this turned up on my feed with such a similar cooking process... definitely going to give it a try! And if it is similar, then I will highly recommend having this as a sandwich filling, on bread which has been rubbed with fresh tomato rather than ketchup.

    Love your all recipes and Nancy too. She looks so adorable. I have 2 cats as well. I guess we can use red lentils as well isn't it instead of yellow one. ❤ Thank you.

      Hello Sophia! Thank you for your nice comment and compliment💐🐈⭐️Red lentils tend to taste sweeter, however they should substitute this recipe well!
