That eq switch is really useful for always switching between humbuckers and true single coils...eq off for buckers with just some high pass (tight control) pop eq on with a bit of bass and mids boosted and a little highs cut for when switching to single coils...all without adjusting the amp. Awesome simple idea and a great first-in-chain pedal if you switch guitar types....and can open up the possibility of being able to use a wider variety of gtrs into the same rig without adjusting the rig itself....been waiting for a box like this!!
For a boost, I find it a tad interesting that the boost knob is more like a volume knob. 9:00 seems approximately unity. If you want a clean preamp in front of your Two Notes Cab M+ and don't care for the onboard digital guitar/bass preamp, this could work. I haven't had the Buxom Boost long, but I found it sounds great for clean tones with the boost around 9:00 into my Two Notes Cab M+ and my other drive pedals off. Try it out.
That highpass (tight) makes gainy sounds sound SO much better in a band mix. And you don't waste all your power amp power on trying to amplify farty low and that you don't need
I really wish the EQ toggle was a second footswitch so you could dial in the boost the way you wanted and then toggle on the EQ for solos or a second easily accessible tone. Then it would be kind of like a much more customizable Koko Boost (which is a great pedal as well) - I could see replacing it with the Buxom Boost if the EQ was foot-switchable. Oh well, maybe v2 :)
I have a freidman dirty shirley and i use a tube screemer with mine amp and i get killer sounds, i turn all the overdrive off and turn the tone and levelall the the way open and it sounds amazeing, just try it and see what you think!!
So does the "boost" knob "cut a few db also if needed? Seems like you set it to unity 8:00 and it was set about 11. that would be useful at times. Thanks!
Shawn, I plan on buying the buxom boost and the dirty Shirley pedals . The only thing is I have a Fender deluxe reverb amp. Would this be a good gain sound using a tele? Please help me out before I buy both pedals. If that’s not a killer overdrive-boost combo sound, with fender amps , which boost, overdrive combo-pedals would you recommend ?
I like to think this might be a good pedal at the front end for me because I change guitars at gigs a good number of times. I go from strats to P90s to humbuckers and I would like something that lets me adjust eq quickly with no fuss when I change guitars. That seems to be a hard area to find a good pedal that fits the need. I play slide on many songs and I have guitars set up just for that then some songs use a strat and some a Les Paul the tight and boost controls are nice for a quick adjust from humbucker to single coils. I was looking at the Petty John Predrive as well so now I have two contenders for that spot.
Friedman BuxomBoost vs Earthquaker Devices Tone Job V2 eq-boost... Will mostly use it as an EQ, leave on most of the time type pedal. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I can't really answer that question because I don't have any experience with that EDTJ V2. There's a new Wampler EQ pedal I want to check out that seems interesting called the EQuator.
How do you see this pedal in front of a Kemper for example ? It should work nicely from clean to slightly broken up as you mentioned but I would trust your opinion.
I’ve watched this demo 3-4 X. Another question. Run this jewel through the effects loop? I’m thinking I heard Dave F recommend this on Tone Talk. What about a Kemper? Effects loop as well?
Shawn always the best demos of pedals and how they can be used to better your tone, quick question on your studio monitors , what are they and are you using the 2 notes live for cab sims on these demos . Thanks please keep em coming inspiration is hard to come by these days.
Thanks very much Frank. I'm using KRK V8S4 powered studio monitors that sound great. I don't use the Two Notes for demo vids for the most part as I prefer to use my tried and true mic and cab setup. I do record with the Two Notes on occasion but for the most part, I use it for live stage applications especially when I'm using in-ear monitors and can't have cabs on stage. It's been a very useful tool for me.
Great sounds but... Do you think these types of pedals are relevant for anybody other than gigging musicians who need to move fast between rhythm and lead tones?
Emre Emre That would depend on the sound you want. This pedal has more to it than a simple clean boost does. With all the tone shaping options, it can be rhythm or lead.
It's a really versatile tone shaping pedal. It can be used as a straight boost pedal for switching between rhythm and lead tones as you stated but it can also be used to shape an overall tone as an always-on pedal or to shape a specific solo tone into another pedal...Endless possibilities..
Thanks a lot for the answers. The thing is, I have a mini Dirty Shirley... will the Buxom boost really give me more tonal options than I can get by tweaking the amps eq?
Hey Shawn, great demo but has me thinking if I should get my hands on one of these. I currently use a boost pedal, Walrus Audio Emissary, at the end of my OD/Distortion pedals to bring in just a little more volume. Have you ABed these two pedals or what is your take of these two boost pedals? Thanks in advance and I absolutely Love your video's and have learned so much over time from watching.
Hey Thomas, thanks for the kind words and for watching my videos! I, unfortunately, don't have any experience with the Walrus Emissary. The Parallel boost circuit that I read about on the Emissary is interesting but I tend to lean toward more tradition EQ circuits on a boost pedal. They just seem to dial in quicker in my opinion.
I found this pedal was quite noisy. I'm still testing it, but if you have an over driven sounds, you can't go too far because the noise is not crazy, but it's not good.
You mean the EP booster? That's a great boost pedal but you're only going to get one type of tone character from it. The Buxom has quite a bit more tone shaping capabilities. Just depends on what you want but they're both great pedals.
Shawn Tubbs yes, i have ep boost. Was wondering if its worth 200 bucks?. The only thing about ep boost the the treble and boost are internal. So going from humbuckers and single coil is a pain.
Chris Hepburn its hard enuf trying to find the model of ÷13 you want....when u finally find it you don't really balk about the color. Also, orange and black sound the same. If I could find an RSA23 in stock anywhere I would buy it in bile green/nacho cheese dorito if it was in stock....they are not easy to find in stock and ready to rock.
Awesome, man! Some of the best gear demo's on the web, by a mile!
Thanks very much!
This is some of the most lush playing I've heard in my entire life!
That lick at 1:21 is just... INCREDIBLE!
Thanks Niels!
I think I need this pedal in my life! Nice demo too Shawn!
Thanks Travis!
Sophisticated playing as always!
Thanks so much!
Great demo of the Friedman Boost pedal, Shawn. Have to track one down now! Thanks.
That Collings is gorgeous. That Suhr sounds great without or with that boost. Wow.
Man you always kill it! Awesome playing man :)
Thanks Michael

Dave Friedman is a talented dude indeed! Thanks for tuning in!!

You're very kind Robert.

exellent as always Shawn, thank you
Thanks Nabil!
Nice and thorough review! Thank you! Lot of sound shaping options on that boost!
Thanks Brian. Dave knocked this one out of the park.
Thanks Brian!

Subscribed! Loved hearing you on tone talk too! Cheers bud.

They will sound great through your FDR for sure!
Thanks Shawn for taking time out to help me and all your subscribers. Really appreciate your expertise and knowledge.

great Demo ..!!
I am enjoying your vids .. :)
Thanks so much!
How about putting that in the loop of the DS to get a solo volume boost?
I'm sure it would sound great!
@@ShawnTubbs Thanks Shawn! I think so too.:-)
Killer tones man...great job
Thanks so much Ed! I appreciate you tuning in.
Is the tight knob essential like a tilt eq? Thanks
It's not as active as a "tilt style" eq but the concept is similar.
This is my next Friedman pedal!
Friedman BuxomBoost vs Earthquaker Devices Tone Job V2 eq-boost... Will mostly use it as an EQ, leave on most of the time type pedal. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Shawn, what speaker/can are u playing thru? Sounds awesome
Thanks man. I'm using a Bogner 2x12 closed back with Eminence CV75 speakers.
How do you see this pedal in front of a Kemper for example ? It should work nicely from clean to slightly broken up as you mentioned but I would trust your opinion.
Yes, you might have to experiment with some different models but I would think it would work nicely.
how many db does the boost give?
I’ve watched this demo 3-4 X. Another question. Run this jewel through the effects loop? I’m thinking I heard Dave F recommend this on Tone Talk. What about a Kemper? Effects loop as well?
You can absolutely run it that way!

Where should I run this with the Dirty Shirley? Before or after?
In general, I always run boost pedals before gain pedals but that being said, try it both ways and go with what you hear.

Yes I think it will for sure.
Awesome video and fantastic playing. Can you use this pedal to push a high gain amp such as a 6505? I use a Maxon OD808 now...Thanks
Yes I will drive a high gain amp no problem.
Thanks for the super fast reply
You got it! Thanks for tuning in!
@@ShawnTubbs in front of a 5150 this one or a dirty Shirley.i wanna have a less harshy sound more Jerry Cantrell and less trashy .Thx
I think you should try the Buxom to custom tweak what you've got going with the 5150.
Can you compare it with the xotic RC/AR boost pedal!??
I think the AC and AR are killer but the Buxom is a bit more versatile in my opinion.
Hey Shawn, great demo but has me thinking if I should get my hands on one of these. "Good Times, Bad Times"
I found this pedal was quite noisy. I'm still testing it, but if you have an over driven sounds, you can't go too far because the noise is not crazy, but it's not good.

The EP is a good boost but I think based on what you've stated, the Buxom is going to work better and yes its worth the money. ;)
Nice
....also love how the tight control focuses the amps power where it needs to be so it's not trying to reproduce useless flubby low end
Yep those "sweep" type tone controls are awesome!
Wow!
Shawn fuckin' Tubbs :O
Thanks James!!!
Reasonable guitar overdrive pedal salesman, Jimmy, Eric, Jeff, Peter, Robin, Jan, much scratching of heads ..
bass and mid needed to be cut/boost as well
Could you have gotten a Divided By 13 in an uglier color
You're welcome ;)
he must really hate the Vols
