Hello Jeff, nice video! I will receive my EV6 in a couple of days and I have a question regarding your information. I notice that the route planner is offering you to stop at 35% SOC, 53% SOC, etc. This does not seem to be optimal in my opinion. Is it because the charging network is limited on the route or is there a way to optimize it? I live in France and we have a lot of charging stations on the highway, so much so that you don't really need to plan your route anymore now. This feature for me will be used to precondition the battery for better charging time, but I would like to still optimize my travel time while using it. I hope I won't have to switch to ABRP for this and then enter the charging station manually as POI in the route planner for preconditioning - I don't really mind doing it but my wife won't find it easy for sure 😀.
Thanks! Congrats on the new car! That's just how the route planner determined the best route. There aren't settings like with ABRP to set an arrival % or anything like that. That said, I have had it bring me down well under 20% with the route planning, so it will go lower if necessary. So it could just be due to the chargers in route and the filters I selected (charging network, speeds).
Hi Jeff, subscribed to the channel. Thanks for your content. Quick q (appreciate if you can help). My local reseller informed me that my EV6 doesn't support Kia Connect, only their newly purchased vehicles will. Is there anything I can do? Like order and install a specific part etc? Thank you sir
Yeah I pinned a comment with some additional info. That is supposed to now happen if you have the recirculate air in tunnel option checked (that was there before).
Great video on what to expect. I'm downloading my update now. I have a 2022 Wind AWD. Have you heard of any plans for Kia to provide true map colors, or is that a lost cause?
Great video Jeff. I’m having a problem with my ev6 recognizing the files off my usb drive. It recognizes that there is a usb drive connected but gives me an error. Can’t remember the specific words in the error. I placed the folder in the root of the drive and its formatted as exfat. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks! Some people have had to do a little renaming. It might be the same with yours. If you delete the two "package" files and then rename the two "pkg" files to "package" (keeping the rest of the name the same) it has worked for them.
hi! I continue to get a pop up message to update my audio system, but its looking for software (rather than an over the air update) that our Kia service dealer said I'd need to download to a USB from the Kia site. Anyone know about this and know what page on the Kia site has this info??
@@TechnicallyJeff Yep! And was at Kia on Monday to update a safety recall feature and asked when there - a message pops up and says you can delay for a week (the message, not the update). When I click update, its looking for a file. The Service person noted that its similar to Hyundais in that I needed to load the update to a USB. Just not sure where on the kia update site that actual update is
I've never seen that. The only thing similar I've seen is if you go to settings > general and tap "update" it will say it needs a USB. That's how you do the manual update. But you shouldn't be prompted lol. Did you take a photo by any chance?
Just downloaded and tested out the new sound improvements. I will say the Bluetooth connection is where you notice the HUGE and great difference. CarPlay connection is better but not as good of an improvement still needs some work. The latest updates this and the addition of plotting out chargers on trips are awesome updates.

I just updated and Wow. The sound is amazing now on the GT line. If you use AA/Carplay make sure you set the surround setting to your liking, it uses the same setting as Bluetooth. Not available in the EU yet. Great they improved the route planning, still not perfect, we need ability to set minimum % we are comfortable with at arrival and I would like an option to chose more stops or longer stops like ABRP. At first I didn’t get the radio update, honestly I don’t care if the volume reads 40 or 8, but great if sound improved.
Yeah I'm happy about it too. And yeah the EU is usually a little after north america. I agree, setting a minimum % would be nice (even if they keep it 10% or higher).

Unfortunately no... Hopefully it will be in the next update, but who knows at this point. I know it's coming for the ccNC infotainment system hardware, but not necessarily ours...
Have you checked adapters? You could get the carlinkit 5.0 that I reviewed and use some double sided tape and have it "permanently" mounted by the usb port. That's how I honestly have my adapter setup.
@@TechnicallyJeff I have thought about going to a auto electrician and for them to fish the usb cable into the glove box so I plug the phone inside and have it out the way but lots of people were speculating that wireless was coming in this update so held off. Eh you could do that. Honestly I'd get something like a Carlinkit 5.0 though and just use some double-sided tape. It's out of the way and gives you the wireless functionality.
Nothing to be impressed unfortunately. We need AA wireless, phone as a key, remember the drive profile (sport+ipadel) and the car in the infotainment to actually be an EV6 :)) ,a simple button: preheat the dam battery and AA guidance to be shown on the headsup display. Do you have the meridian audio? Or the sound improvement it's on the base audio also?
I hope I have all these features with the update since I bought mine in MA (Live in IL though) and my KIA Connect has remained disabled. I have tried everything, called corporate, but there is nothing they can do. A lot of the routing features require KIA Connect. Voice works with KIA connect as well so does weather information. It really sucks.
I have a video about settings in general where I go over all the settings in the vehicle. Not specific to climate control though. That said, I personally set mine to whatever temperature I want and use the "auto" function, typically auto level 1. It will automatically heat/cool the vehicle.
I downloaded it this morning and am installing it now... Thanks for the video Jeff! PS: Do you have to have the subscription Kia connect service on the app to get the live charge station updates? I haven't renewed mine.
Ahh I see the updated comment. Yes to get the live charging station updates it's my understanding you need the subscription. It supposed to be part of the "connected routing".
Kia forcing their customers to pay a subscription fee for Kia Connect is total extortion. BMW was forced to back off their subscription model which forced their customers to pay a subscription to activate hardware that was already physically installed . If Kia keeps this up, this will be my last Kia. @@TechnicallyJeff
Yeah I get that. I can see both points honestly. They have to pay people to continue to develop the software and add features, so I can kind of see a subscription fee for that. But I also think it should be included when you purchase the vehicle. I think the BMW thing is different. They were charging people to use hardware (ex. heated seats) which is crazy IMO lol.
Is anyone else trying to download this update and getting server errors? For the last two days, I have seen the mobile app working sporadically. The Navigation update failed to connect?
OTA updates are very infrequent with our vehicles. Some people get them a few weeks after an update. Others get them 6 months later. I never wait for it personally.
I swear the navigation updater software is downloading the wrong software for the car, the version number sequence is completely different; has anyone else had that issue? The version on my car starts with CV_E, but the version it keeps downloading starts with ECOKMC, I'm not sure what's going on here. has anyone else run into this?
@@TechnicallyJeff Gah that's so strange, my car will not update at all; it says it's incompatible with the vehicle. Gonna give it a couple more tries then see if Kia can help
I installed it this morning fom a USB key. OTA would have taken a while to download. I have had my battery voltage swinging from 0v to 12.5v for while. Not sure if that came from. a previous update. 🤔 I had to install a permanent NOCO cable to jump start the car almost everyday. Kia told me the battery was healthy 🙄 ...
@@TechnicallyJeff I’m not sure exactly but it started to happen a month ago. The technician told me that could come from connected services hammering the car and by consequence the battery usage. Today the it is steady at 12.5v (so far) 🤔 Is there a way to see that usage with your magic dashboard/TBox plus?
Yeah, mine did none of that. I should have just waited for the OTA. It was not worth the USB stick. If there is one thing I miss about my C40 P8 Volvo it is their route planning. It works. With Kia, it's Plugshare and ABRP and EA apps that let you find stations. Otherwise, it will not be viable for a road trip just using the native system.
Yes, it has the new power consumption screen and all, it just fails to route. About the only way it works is if a charger is all but in the middle of the road where it previously was going to send you. It has zero ability to actually formulate a plan of attack and safely get you somewhere. For now, we have to stick with Plugshare.@@TechnicallyJeff
I thinking about it, I started it in the morning. We are now at 48*F in the mornings now and and it warmed up to 70*F while sitting there. Might explain the state of change. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks Jeff for the good info, as usual. I've been watching you for a while and I have to mention something that bugs me. Since you're a technical kind of guy, you should know this. When you're filming yourself in the car, using the selfie camera on your phone, you always look like you're in a right-hand drive car. Please use the mirror option. Thanks.
Thank you! And yeah I just leave it mirrored. I could flip it, but unless there's something written or something looks really off (other than RHD vs LHD) I don't really think about it.
I really wish they would just add a manual option for battery pre-conditioning, being able to set "Precondition for arrival at charger in xx minutes" or just as simple as "Start preconditioning now". I understand Kia want to use the feature to steer users towards the provided navigation system, but in reality it just causes extra hassle for the users to have to use two nav systems. I would hope they would put their developer working on that instead of the "sounds" that probably less than 5% ever uses more than once 😀
Finally, I have Volume & BASS!!! I was just considering installing larger sub-woofers, but hard to justify when It’s already a pretty pricey vehicle…glad I waited!😉👍🏼
If I were Kia/Hyundai, I would let Google do the OS since they cannot do both it seems. Honda has the idea, unfortunately they went with GM for the batteries

Thanks! That's definitely not correct. A used EV6 can get Kia Connect. Massachusetts has laws that make it not work though if you live there.
@@TechnicallyJeff I’m in Malta Europe. So if the car doesn’t have the supporting device/modem it can always be implemented right?
Oh gotcha. I'm not sure about in that region unfortunately
I think in the release notes it mentioned it will close the windows going through tunnels, did you see that option?
Yeah I pinned a comment with some additional info. That is supposed to now happen if you have the recirculate air in tunnel option checked (that was there before).
Great video on what to expect. I'm downloading my update now. I have a 2022 Wind AWD. Have you heard of any plans for Kia to provide true map colors, or is that a lost cause?
Glad to help. I have not heard anything regarding colors. You could send them feedback - ksupport.kiausa.com/ConsumerAffairs
@@TechnicallyJeff awesome! Going to try this tonight! I was also thinking of trying a different usb stick… even though mine is Sandisk.
Good luck! Hope it works.
@@TechnicallyJeff Preciate you!
Happy to help!
Hey@ Jeff
Please, how do l get my soc to appear in my route planner
Are you on the newest update that just rolled out in the USA? It should automatically show it
@@TechnicallyJeff yes downloaded yesterday.
@TechnicallyJeff
It maps my route with suggested charging stations, but NOT soc on arrival or how long to charge as it appears in your video.
That's so weird. It's not something you enable. It's automatically there with the new update.
I've tried to update via USB in the past and my EV6 never detects my USB. Any suggestions for this?
Hmm what format is your USB? And you're using the navigation updater software and everything is in the root of the usb drive?
I dont have a 64gb thumb drive. But I have a 1 terabyte drive. It has other files on it. Would this drive work?
I don't think so. It needs to be the only thing in the root folder from what I understand. A 64gb drive is about $10 from walmart if you're near one.
lol. they're really that cheap now? how long does the update take? thanks!
@jcc6637 lol yep really cheap. It takes about an hour after you put it in the car. Downloading though depends on your internet speeds.
What is "battery care" energy usage?
That's typically the battery heater. You'll see that if it's cold outside. And if battery conditioning is running it show some kW used then too.
Please you have link to new update version? But i am from Europe, is no problem for me? Thank you.
It's not out in Europe quite yet. But to update you'll download the installer from update.kia.com
@@TechnicallyJeff and do you think it works for European cars? Am I not spoiling anything? Or is it better to wait? Thank you very much
You wouldn't be able to install it yet
hi! I continue to get a pop up message to update my audio system, but its looking for software (rather than an over the air update) that our Kia service dealer said I'd need to download to a USB from the Kia site. Anyone know about this and know what page on the Kia site has this info??
You're getting a pop up to update it? The only pop up is when there is an OTA update.
Yep solid improvements
can anyone confirm this update is still available in the US. I downloaded through OTA version 10 from May 2023 and again from the updater app the same version. Where is version 11 from Oct? I want my volume fixed.
I know people that updated recently. This update does include 2 sets, the older update and new one.
@@TechnicallyJeff just tried again and I keep getting the same v10 software from the updater that i got OTA. CV_E_USA.S5W_M.v010.003.230526. Also wondering why my my firmware seems to be an older rev than yours. CV_E.USA.301.230328.MICOM.D my car has a 5/23 build date.
@user-fo1bu4si9i hmm I'm not sure why that would be. I'm the zip file are there more than one set of files?
Just got the update OTA this weekend. The enhanced EV charging features should come in handy on our 300 mile Thanksgiving road trip. Next week.
That's good. Yeah definitely.
I just updated and Wow. The sound is amazing now on the GT line. If you use AA/Carplay make sure you set the surround setting to your liking, it uses the same setting as Bluetooth. If you use Apple Music with lossless quality you will be VERY happy with how it sounds. This is what I expected Meridian to sound.
Awesome! Yeah definitely solid improvements. I'm pretty excited about it.
Hey Jeff, I just downloaded the navigator and saw the October 2023 update and downloaded and updated the car myself. Everything worked as promised but when I looked for the new additions I was missing many of the new sounds of nature including "Warmth in Winter" and I can't see the split screen electricity use etc. It went so smoothly - what could I be doing wrong? Thanks! @@TechnicallyJeff
@Cedar1956 hmm this update had a couple built in. Did it restart twice? What's your software version?
It restarted twice. The software is CV_E.USA.SSW_M.V010.003.230526 @@TechnicallyJeff
@@TechnicallyJeff Hey Jeff, redownloaded the software and reinstalled. I got the same result, although it did show me charging stations, and under new features, it only listed the charging stations the route charging station planning. The sounds of nature and the electricity use didn’t come up. I wonder if that’s because I don’t have the app other than the basic? Could that be it? Thanks so much for your input.
The split screen side panel update looks interesting. I don’t use it much, but this looks useful.
@@TechnicallyJeff yes agree. I would probably set it at 5%. Do you btw know how low the battery can be when the battery preconditioning will be allowed. I don’t use it often but I think it was 20% at first. Now that winter is coming it will be needed again.
I don't use the side panel at all really, but it does look interesting, I agree.
It's been a while since I used it but I think it was 20%
Can you take it to dealership for update?
Yep the dealership can do it.
Any news on wireless car play?
Unfortunately no... Hopefully it will be in the next update, but who knows at this point. I know it's coming for the ccNC infotainment system hardware, but not necessarily ours...
@@TechnicallyJeff it’s one of my most annoying things with the car as I hate mess and unsightly cables so don’t use it
Have you checked adapters? You could get the carlinkit 5.0 that I reviewed and use some double sided tape and have it "permanently" mounted by the usb port. That's how I honestly have my adapter setup.
@@TechnicallyJeff I have thought about going to a auto electrician and for them to fish the usb cable into the glove box so I plug the phone inside and have it out the way but lots of people were speculating that wireless was coming in this update so held off. Kia uk hasn’t released the update yet for us over this side of the pond
I do agree all of those things are on my wish list too. But I am happy for the few items we did get haha. And yes I have the meridian audio.
Oh that's frustrating. I think you'll get some of them, but the connected routing features probably won't work unfortunately.
Thank Jeff, keep them coming.... Some how I am not able to see realtime electricity use.
I'll try! Hmm are you on the EV screen on the main portion, not the sidebar? If so, it won't show in the sidebar.
No, I just have map on the main screen, and then I get time, media ,weather calendar, and ev charging stations info. No, real-time ev usage
Hmm maybe check the settings for split screen to make sure that it's enabled with the other items.
Do you have a video about climate control in the EV6 tip and tricks to what to turn on/off when it's cold or warm 😉👍🏼
I have a video about settings in general where I go over all the settings in the vehicle. Not specific to climate control though. That said, I personally set mine to whatever temperature I want and use the "auto" function, typically auto level 1. It will automatically heat/cool the vehicle.
Hi geff are you have the password for engineering mode for this update??
I don't unfortunately
Excellent review! thanks for the update info!
Glad to help!
I downloaded it this morning and am installing it now... Thanks for the video Jeff!
PS: Do you have to have the subscription Kia connect service on the app to get the live charge station updates? I haven't renewed mine.
Awesome. Glad to help!
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks - I added a question re. the app...
Doesn't look like it's available in AU yet.
Yeah it may not be yet
Nothing like relaxing sounds when your 12V battery goes out in the middle of nowhere
Haha hopefully not...
awesome Video Jeff
Thank you!
How can you get the updated maps on the EV6 (UK based)
You can manually update the nav and infotainment system - ruclips.net/video/X62WHl9Rhdk/видео.html
Hi there i am in spain but when ingi to kia web side and choise europa i can see the octobre update to downlode dose any one know why thanks
Hi there - this update isn't available in Europe yet
@@TechnicallyJeff thanks for that mate x
No problem
Is anyone else trying to download this update and getting server errors? For the last two days, I have seen the mobile app working sporadically. The Navigation update failed to connect?
The mobile app is back up for me. I haven't heard of issues with the download other than with Macs.
About time they fix the Audio! It sucked. Is there a video on how to do it?
The meridian system in my RIVIAN is WAAAAYYYY BETTER
Yeah I know haha. Yeah here's a video on how to perform the update - ruclips.net/video/X62WHl9Rhdk/видео.html
Hey Jeff is OTA updates working at all?
OTA updates are very infrequent with our vehicles. Some people get them a few weeks after an update. Others get them 6 months later. I never wait for it personally.
Looks like the Canadian version doesn’t have the same itinerary planner 😢
Oh really? That's a bummer
@@TechnicallyJeffmaybe I am doing something wrong. Some other people do have the option… I will double check! Thanks for your videos.
Oh okay good luck!
@@TechnicallyJeff not sure what I did wrong but it a working fine now!!! 🎉
@fabmoreau93 Glad to hear it!
I still want to know why there is no new color themes or ways to use custom icons.
Yeah it would be nice if they added that
I swear the navigation updater software is downloading the wrong software for the car, the version number sequence is completely different; has anyone else had that issue? The version on my car starts with CV_E, but the version it keeps downloading starts with ECOKMC, I'm not sure what's going on here. has anyone else run into this?
ECOKMC is correct. Those are the system and extra packages. That's what I have - ECOKMC.USA. And the vehicle one is CV_E.USA
@@TechnicallyJeff Gah that's so strange, my car will not update at all; it says it's incompatible with the vehicle. Gonna give it a couple more tries then see if Kia can help
Hmm weird. You're in the USA?
@@TechnicallyJeff Yep! I've never had issues with the update the last couple of times, just this time
Hmm weird. Maybe try deleting everything and formatting your usb drive and then redownloading it.
I installed it this morning fom a USB key. OTA would have taken a while to download.
I have had my battery voltage swinging from 0v to 12.5v for while. Not sure if that came from. a previous update. 🤔
I had to install a permanent NOCO cable to jump start the car almost everyday. Kia told me the battery was healthy 🙄 ...
Battery voltage has been doing it after the update or it's been doing that?
@@TechnicallyJeff I’m not sure exactly but it started to happen a month ago. The technician told me that could come from connected services hammering the car and by consequence the battery usage. Today the it is steady at 12.5v (so far) 🤔
Is there a way to see that usage with your magic dashboard/TBox plus?
Yeah you can see the 12v battery info with a Bluetooth obd2 adapter
Yeah, mine did none of that. I should have just waited for the OTA. It was not worth the USB stick. If there is one thing I miss about my C40 P8 Volvo it is their route planning. It works. With Kia, it's Plugshare and ABRP and EA apps that let you find stations. Otherwise, it will not be viable for a road trip just using the native system.
Yours didn't get the updates? Are you sure it installed the latest version?
Yes, it has the new power consumption screen and all, it just fails to route. About the only way it works is if a charger is all but in the middle of the road where it previously was going to send you. It has zero ability to actually formulate a plan of attack and safely get you somewhere. For now, we have to stick with Plugshare.@@TechnicallyJeff
Crazy it doesn't route slightly off the route to a charger.
Thanks Jeff!
Happy to help!
Kia Canada is supplying the USA version at the moment. so not able to install. Typical...
Oh really? That's interesting
Wireless android auto??
Hopefully it's in the next update
Wireless Android Auto?
Unfortunately no. I wish
Thank you, very useful overview
I'm glad it's helpful!
Good Job TJ
thank you!
I found I can just resume Kia navigation if I start google maps navigation and have both running
Yeah? So you can have Android Auto or Carplay going and the Kia navigation?
Just tested and if I resume Kia navigation it cancels the Waze navigation in Android Auto
Thanks Jeff. Shame tho that the sound update is the most exciting of all. It shows how little Kia is doing for us new-old EV drivers.
Yeah good point haha. I see updates from Rivian and Tesla and get jealous. Even Ford puts out decent updates.
Still got the strange hatchback car image on the main screen then with the battery % 🙄
Lol yep. Maybe in the next update we'll get an EV6 image
I did notice that after the update finished I had 3% greater state of charge.
Hah interesting
I thinking about it, I started it in the morning. We are now at 48*F in the mornings now and and it warmed up to 70*F while sitting there. Might explain the state of change. Thanks for the great video!
Ah yeah maybe
Great! Thanks!
Glad to help!
Understood. It's just that it's fine for the average person. But for us technical people, it's a little annoying, and should be an easy fix.
Yeah I get it. I'll try to remember to flip it in the next video.
Yeah I 100% agree. Make sure you send them the feedback!
agreed - particularly frustrating for stops at chargers the map doesn't even know about!
Yeah exactly
Finally, I have Volume & BASS!!! I was just considering installing larger sub-woofers, but hard to justify when It’s already a pretty pricey vehicle…glad I waited!😉👍🏼
Awesome! Yeah I agree 👍
But they added wireless Carplay and android Auto Also...
Unfortunately no, not yet for the EV6 in any region. Only vehicles with the ccNC Infotainment system
If I were Kia/Hyundai, I would let Google do the OS since they cannot do both it seems. Honda has the idea, unfortunately they went with GM for the batteries
Yeah Android Automotive would be the way to go if it were me too.
Exactly what Renault have done.
Yep a few others too
About a year ago i was in doubt between the ev6 or the volvo c40 ….i picked up the volvo but at certain time i thought the only thing that volvo was disappointing it was the infotainment system….but in a miracle one day (about a month ago ) i updated the software via OTA ….and it has appeared the youtube app and prime video….now I’m fully satisfied but at the same time disappointed with Kia ev6/hyundai ioniq6 infotainment because the cars are even expensive than the c40 and their systems doesn’t provide anything like that 😢 nowadays is useful stuff like this specially if you have kids, but even without kids if you’re stuck in the traffic its nice to watch some videos... That’s the reason why i admire tesla because all this stuffs they had it for a long time…but now I don’t regret to have the volvo c40 because in general the build quality / drive experience / infotainment its a good choice…the only thing could be better its the screen size….but is acceptable.
Yeah the Volvo is a great vehicle. Personally I use the Tbox Plus I reviewed so I have RUclips, Netflix, Disney plus, etc. But I get what you're saying. I do like the android automotive in the Volvo too.
I dont think Kia owns their software stack inhouse...they probably subcontract out to multiple vendors. Why is that important? Unlike Rivian and Tesla, substantial updates take forever.
Yeah true
Ew electric
😅😅
