The H9G has terrible quality control; I've read multiple reddit posts about units that failed in days or weeks due to the screen dying or due to LEDs becoming defective and producing dark blotches on the screen.

@@TheBeesKneesPhoto it has 120 over 1440p. You need hdmi 2.1 for 4k 120. Even with the next gen consoles your probably not going to see many games at 4k 120 for awhile. Take a few years probably. If you had a gaming PC and wanted to use this TV I would say invest in something with hdmi 2.1. It also depends on the types of games your going to play. Many pro gamers play shooters at 1080p at 144 to 240. So the 4k 120 is not super necessary yet IMO.

These tvs at 1440p gaming have a white line that will sometimes appear at the VERY TOP of the tv. It seems to be an upscaling issue, but unless you're looking for it you won't notice it but it still kind of sucks.
Thank you for the testing and details! How is the local dimming, black levels and have you experienced any major black crush? Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Thanks for the first impressions! Mine arrived two days ago and when I run local dimming tests on RUclips I get this weird dark lines In the white part of the screen (even when the bright object moves slowly). Would love to see your review on TV’s local dimming performance! Thanks
Great video! big ban of the technical aspects. Would you mind doing a similar video for Hisense H9G, looking to see how does it compare to TCL 6 series this year.
Great review and I look forward to the coming vids! For $649, there's not a whole lot to complain about. I wonder if setting the color temp to warm would combat the elevated blues and low reds? This one will be tough to beat.
Great video! I like that you've added measurements to your reviews. It seems this is a great value for the money. Better specs than the Sony 950H except for the X1 Ultimate processor. Processing is where Sony shines from everything I've watched and read. I'm in the market for an LCD this upcoming Black Friday and this is definitely on my short list. But I'm willing to pay the Sony tax for the improvements in processing if the gap is wide enough. Questions: Are you able to measure contrast ratio? And how is gradient / color banding? Did I misinterpret or does the TV not even support eARC? Just plain ARC?
The 65 and 75 versions will allow you to move those feet in closer. So far my decision to buy the 75" version is looking good. Just have to wait until the 11th now ☹️
Yeah. It's kind of ironic that the 55" will barely fit where I want it, but the 65"? No problem. I saw aftermarket feet that fit VESA mounts on Amazon for around $15 on Amazon that should work on the 55" though.
So what's your opinion of the TV? It's hard to really judge it from a RUclips video. So I believe a lot of us count on people like you for honest feedback. On paper it seems pretty exciting but I've seen some negatives comments on it already.
This tv great, I got it on sale at best buy for 599. The only issue I've had so far is a random screen bounds flickering, sometimes on startup it goes into wifi connect mode, and finding legit real time gaming calibration.
Awesome video. The legs can be moved in on the 65 and 75 inch models only. Where do you notice the blooming the most? For example, do you notice the blooming around subtitles?
Hey techno dad, my comment is a little late on this video, but i had a big question! How is are the viewing angles on this tv? would it be suitable for a home theatre setup in a big room or does the shift ruin the image? Thanks :D
Hi techo dad, I have a question for you. Can the new 6 series tcl 2020 model work with the use of an HDMI 2.1 cable connection with the new Xbox series and PS5. Thanks.

Please review the Vizio P-Series quantum 2021 has two HDMI 2.1 ports And I also want to see a review when the Vizio olad that comes out next month for only 1,300
Wouldn't necessarily refer to the coaxial connection as a legacy connection. Several cord cutters still use that. They make table top stands for about $30 to fix the wide leg issue. Does it crush blacks there have been reviews saying the black levels are awful? Are the black bars gray or actually black?
That's a good point, I will not refer to it as legacy. Black levels are not awful, they are quite good. Black bars look like black bars, but sometimes can be a bit gray at times depending on the content.
Great video! But,,,, I’m not sure what you’re talking about in a lot of this video. Question, for someone who thinks my 4-series looks great, what is the best general setting you would set for the everyday person? That dark mode your talking about? I got a 75 inch ordered and can’t wait to hang it on my fireplace. Just wondering what the best all around setting would be for viewing regular television and maybe a movie every now and then. Thanks!
Hello, Scott. I'm sorry I wasn't clear. After measuring all the picture modes, I found the Dark HDR mode to be the "closest" to being perfectly accurate with white balance, color, and luminescence. So I would use that mode and then tweak from there.
Ray Cruz I have the same TV as a 65”. I’m pulling the trigger on the new model and giving my folks the R615. If next years model has what I’m looking for...I have a friend and his wife who could be brought into the 4KUHD era.
@TechnoDad I'm using an AV Receiver and all is plugged in it. Should I connect my Xbox directly to the TV and use eArc for a better sound or results will be the same ?
Question: Are you setting the TV brightness to Dark in all these examples? For example, when you say to use Movie HDR does that include setting the brightness to dark as well? Question 2: Are you using gamma 2.2 or 2.4? Sorry if you’ve answered these. If you did I missed it. Thanks for the help and advice.
I don’t think the blooming would be too much of an issue tbh. I saw what you meant by the ferris wheel with the blooming. But compared to tv’s of other specs like the H9G/Q9. This is by far the better tv. I guess, if you are incredibly irritated by blooming, even in the slightest; then yeah, you should upgrade. All in all, I’m absolutely in awe for what the tv could do. The blacks look so inky and you said the picture was accurate and bright in thx game mode. Definitely looking forward to buying this tv this holiday.
Right on James! I did notice the blooming a lot on the standard modes until I tweaked them a little. I think I found a good balance last night but still need to play around with the settings.
Techno Dad I get that blooming is an issue but it hasn’t bugged me yet. Maybe I just haven’t experienced a “bloomless” experience (seems so weird saying that), but I am definitely looking forward to your reviews and buying this television.
Techno Dad If anything, the black crush was more noticeable than the blooming. The trees in the distance really showed that the best. Although that does bug me since I intend to game a lot, that hasn’t bugged me too much on my H9F yet.
I think so many of us were hoping for a pretty significant improvement over last year's models with the Mini-LED tech. But I've seen a couple reviews recently that say blooming is significant which is a head scratcher. I'm not sure if it's a software issue but if this can't be improved there's no reason to buy this TV over anything else in the same price category. Something last year's models could boast.
So with this new version of the 6 series, what is better about buying the current 8 series if both are mini-LEDs. 6 series is cheaper for basically same thing right. Are there any important features or specs I’m missing from the 8series that makes it better
Kinda want to see the Black Bar test, saw Quantum's review of it and he shows that the Black bar on movies show significant light bleed. Like the Black Bars aren't pure black, they're have a grey-ish tone instead of pure black.
Yeah I’ve seen Quantum’s video. Notice he has backlight cranked to 100... maybe he thinks that’s 100% accuracy, but it’s simply 100% brighter, making the blacks grey. He’s clueless.
Yes, there’s blooming with these default picture modes. I didn’t change any settings, so I’ll mess with it. I got a nice place last night balancing backlight brightness and contrast.
@@TechnoDad maybe this is a good video topic because the "black crushing" seems lile the #1 reason people are avoiding this TV (via comments / forums etc).

Hi! I don't have any of those. Would an Xbox One X work? I know there is a VRR function on it. It would help if there was a way to get a reading of the fps while in game.
Techno Dad Thanks.. I am more interested in PC GPU's & if the VRR implemented would work with them. I believe the Xbox one X is the one device VRR should definitely work. I assume only some select titles provide the VRR option on 1X.
@@TechnoDad I'll be waiting patiently for your video! The TV and gaming look great other than the THX certified gaming mode. I'll just play an HDR bright until then. Thanks for the response :-)
Wanting to buy this TV for the PC as the PC is the only gaming system that can push 1440p / 120FPS and beyond. Was very disappointed that the "techno" in Technodad is limited in scope as their was ZERO gaming information / review other than just commenting on the picture quality. Sorry, not trying to ruffle feathers .... but .... I'll have to catch the 2nd unboxing and hope that reviewer ACTUALLY covers the gaming side of this set. BTW Technodad, you officially had the very FIRST unboxing /review of this set. But I will tell you, you got me VERY excited when you started talking calibration, etc. I was for sure expecting you to measure port latency, cover VRR, etc etc. You tricked me good!
I usually make an initial video and ask people what they want me to check out for the full review one or two months down the road. Having an item for at best 10 hours does not make any kind of good quality review. I’m not sure what other content creators you watch, but if they have the item for less than a day, I would take that review with a grain of salt. You won’t see another unboxing video from me, rather, you’ll see a full review when I have had time to properly evaluate the product. If you watched the video around the 18 minute mark I ask if there’s something specific you want me to check out on this TV. Clearly, you didn’t get to that part. I’d be happy to check out the TV for you with my gaming PC even though you threw an insult my way.

Where can we get that demo reel? Also will you show post cal?
Even though it's not HDMI 2.1 it does have many if the features like eARC
HDMI 2.0B ports do have support for eARC, ALLM, and VRR.
What does action smoothing mean does it hurt pixel response times while gaming
That’s motion interpolation or Soap Opera Effect. You want that off for gaming.
This might make a nice office TV. Can you show or comment on how well it handles reflections?
Yeah, I'll check that out.
What's the color gamut
Please review the Vizio P-Series quantum 2021 has two HDMI 2.1 ports And I also want to see a review when the Vizio olad that comes out next month for only 1,300
Hi Dkickz! I'm hoping to get a one of those Vizio OLEDs in to review. I'll just have to wait with finger's crossed.
Hi. I have the TCL R617 75" TV. Going to upgrade soon. I love my TV. I like to upgrade every 2 years or so. Is the R635 a good choice?
Ray Cruz I have the same TV as a 65”. I’m pulling the trigger on the new model and giving my folks the R615. If next years model has what I’m looking for...I have a friend and his wife who could be brought into the 4KUHD era.
@TechnoDad I'm using an AV Receiver and all is plugged in it. Should I connect my Xbox directly to the TV and use eArc for a better sound or results will be the same ?
On this TV? Better to connect the Xbox to the AVR.
@@TechnoDad Thank you Sir!
Thanks man ! did you talk about mini led and black level ?
Not really. They are saying OLED level blacks, but I'm not convinced, so I figure I should check out more content first.
Hi! The only thing I changed was turning off motion smoothing. I will calibrate the TV once I've run it for 100 - 200 hours.
Techno Dad oh wow. That’s great news then. I have the same tv. I look forward to your calibration next. Thank you.
I’ve noticed that in movie mode the colors seem super dull.
If the hardware is here, maybe it's a software issue? Maybe fixable via firmware update?
Would you say that the series 6 2020 is better than the 2019 series 8? Huge discounts are being placed on the 2019 8 series right now.
I noticed that, $1,000 off. Maybe a newer 8 series is in the way. I would go with the higher model myself but the new one might have HDMI 2.1
Can someone verify the stands depth on a table. I check the tcl website and it says13.7 inches for the 55inch which is ~35cm
Will the color be more vivid on this TV than the 4 Series?
I would imagine that it would be better on the R635.
@@TechnoDad Will the picture quality be better on this TV compared to the other 6, 5, and 4 series?
Movies mode looks horrible on mine. Is 4K video hdr? And what’s an example of sdr?
Some 4K is HDR some is not. Example of SDR is what you see on TV/cable channels.
@@TechnoDad thank you 🙏
So with this new version of the 6 series, what is better about buying the current 8 series if both are mini-LEDs. 6 series is cheaper for basically same thing right. Are there any important features or specs I’m missing from the 8series that makes it better
I would go for last year’s 8 series over this.
Techno Dad thanks for the response. What’s different about the 8 series from last year that puts it over this new qled 6 series
The 615/617bhas reversible feet! It wouldn't fit on my stand without that capability
Wait, do you need to have your console plugged into the 4th HDMI slot to make the thx gaming mode work??
New to your vids btw and love them! Subscribed and liked :)
Do you still need the HDMI 2.1 cord for the arc port if wanting to use the 120
That we don't know and we will have to just wait and see.
Kinda want to see the Black Bar test, saw Quantum's review of it and he shows that the Black bar on movies show significant light bleed. Like the Black Bars aren't pure black, they're have a grey-ish tone instead of pure black.
Ignore Quantum. He appears to know almost nothing about imaging science and churns out timefiller content.
Yeah I’ve seen Quantum’s video. Notice he has backlight cranked to 100... maybe he thinks that’s 100% accuracy, but it’s simply 100% brighter, making the blacks grey. He’s clueless.
When is the review for this tv coming? Dying to see....
Nice review... but it has a blooming effect on high lights with strong red
Yes, there’s blooming with these default picture modes. I didn’t change any settings, so I’ll mess with it. I got a nice place last night balancing backlight brightness and contrast.
@Techno Dad can't wait for the messing up configurations your going to make haha tnx for a good review always SIR
many people have noticed the bad black crushing, any thoughts? hopefully this can be resolved via an update
I don't notice that. I have some good settings but they will change when I calibrate the TV.
@@TechnoDad maybe this is a good video topic because the "black crushing" seems lile the #1 reason people are avoiding this TV (via comments / forums etc).
But this TV can do 1440p 120hz
Yes, it can.
great delivery!
Thank you!
Also can you do a motion test?
Question.. with the ps5 should you use the hdmi that comes with the ps5 or buy a 2.0 cable instead or will it make no difference?
Hello Nathan! I would use the cable that comes with the PS5.
@@TechnoDad I've just found out I can't get this tv in the uk so gutted
This is a great test
Techno Dad, how does TCL 6 series 2020 compare to the TCL 8 series 2019? Which is better? Do I exchange the 8 series 2019 for the 6 series 2020?
2019 8 series might be the way to go
Thanks for your response 👍🏿
You’re welcome
Please which is better, TCL 8 series 2019 vs Hisense HG9?
I managed to grab this TV as well. Not much better than the 2019 6 series in my opinion
So I shouldn't waste my money upgrading?
I kind of want the 75in since that size wasn't available in the 625r
@@Edward135i Not this year my friend. I am so very sorry. If you do not have a 4k TV, then yes. But if you have any 4K TV from last year then it is a waste of time
id it has earc doesnt mean it has hdmi 2.1?
I know the TV is only 700ish dollars but they really missed the mark w no HDMI 2.1
For me this TV is not future proof w that said I'm waiting till 4th qtr when they release their new 6-vidrian series, possibly even getting a 8k. That should future proof 8-10 years
W that said, amazing review my brother... Subbed
Thank you Tia Mar! We just passed the 80K mark! I agree, HDMI 2.1 would have been awesome. I made a video saying to not upgrade your TV this year as waiting will be the best option.
How does this model compares to last year's r625?
Hi Jaun! I didn’t have last years model in, but I think the big difference is the MiniLED backlight.
I thought there were 2 different positions for mounting the feet, isn't there a narrower spot?
I don't think so this time around...
Test VRR if you have an AMD gpu like Rx 580, Rx 5700 or Nvidia rtx 2060 etc. I don't think it will work, but curious.
I would like to see how bad the blooming is. Saw another vid and it was bad.
I think it's manageable, but it would be situational based. Depending no what you are watching.
Just got my TV hooked up and the thx game mode looks very washed out and dim compared to bright HDR mode. Any advice?
I will be calibrating Game mode in a couple of weeks. Have to let the TV run for 100 - 200 hours.
@@TechnoDad I'll be waiting patiently for your video! The TV and gaming look great other than the THX certified gaming mode. I'll just play an HDR bright until then. Thanks for the response :-)
Are your settings using “Native” or “Auto” color space in the ROKU App?
Whatever was default. I will calibrate the TV after it had run for 100 - 200 hours.
Techno Dad Cool. Once you do that I’ll join as a member for your settings. 👍🏼
Does it crush blacks?
To fight some of the blooming, I can get it dark but not too dark. But it all depends on what you are watching!
Excelente Review com bons exemplos de imagem 👏😁
Thank you!
Any banding or dse?
Now THIS is a good video
Thank you! Great name btw!
