- The TCL 6-Series brings the same mini-LED backlight tech that we saw in the company's 8-Series last year, at a very approachable price. At under $1000 for the 65-inch QLED TV, it could be one of the best values in TV for 2020. But tricky picture settings could stand in the way of viewers getting the best picture quality. How much work does it take to coax the best from the TCL 6-Series? We'll walk you through it.

Caleb, I have to say thank you for this video. Your suggestions on settings for this TV were spot on. Worked out excellent on my 75 inch 6 series.
Thank you for your time and effort! Really appreciate it! Thumbs up to the production and post production crew!
Ordered the 65" from Amazon this morning. My first new TV in 17 years!

I love these tv reviews , they're so accurate and very in depth
Excellent review Caleb! I'm definitely enjoying testing the TCL and it's an amazing value. Hope all is well.
I purchased this TV based on your review. Best TV I’ve owned.
@@IanMichael87 awesome! I'm so glad you are loving it! Enjoy!
this was really great for setting up my tv, thank you so much for making this. It's made me subscribe and I've decided to check out this channel before making other purchasing decisions
Recently purchased the TCL 6 series 65 inch. Your videos were key in my decision. I am very happy with it, thank you!
I bought this tv based on this review and the Rtings guys, and my set does crush the blacks just a tad bit. I use mine for movie watching in a dark/dim lit room, and it is both vibrant with deep blacks, and bright with good contrast. The shadow crushing only happens in deep black areas while watching HDR content, and can be adjusted via settings, at the slight loss of the deep inky black levels. The oversaturated reds can be controlled using the TCL app under expert settings and so can the gamma setting.
My only comment would be that this tv changes its "modes" depending on what you are watching, and I have yet to figure out how to set my own preferences on that. For example: the tv will say, Streaming mode- and give you a set of viewing modes, "dark, bright, brighter" and in HDR will give you a new set, movie mode with give you yet a third set.
Ahhh such breathtaking picture quality *watches on phone in 360p

This channel is the king of TV reviews! How I wish I can find and focus on one niche for my channel.
Just bought this TV in a 55". Beautiful picture. I've set the picture for various input types but for 4K HDR it still seems a bit soap opera-y even with all the smoothing turned off. I also noticed for some reason the Movie Mode setting on HDR is not available. Not sure what's going on there. I'm considering playing this the color saturation and lowering it since my taste is not to have the super saturated look that most TVs push these days.
Great review! Would love to see a match up against the H9G, but it's gotta be in the 55" sizes to make it fair. Really hope you're getting the 75" version of this TV too.
Thanks for the excellent review. Getting this TV this weekend. Can't wait!!
What a fantastic freaking review. I was heavy on the HG9 but I'm thinking about going with the TLC!
This was a really good, in-depth review. Thank you!
Just picked up this tv after seeing your unboxing/review and it has exceeded my expectations! Thanks for such solid and level headed reviews.

@@Michael-xo9rp nice! Amazon weird af it was $1189 an hour ago now after I get back from lunch it’s currently $1398 🤦🏽 tf!?
Excellent review. Ordered myself one. Best to see a review from the human eye rather than just a bunch of numbers that most critics do.
Very good review I have the 65 613 from Costco. Got it for 450.00 for a return out of box with no screen uniformity issues. I now want this TV because my 613 is so good. But with no blooming now this is a must have for me. Bring on the H9G
With the constant change in scenes and motion it’s hard to tell changes in picture with respect to the adjustment of the settings. Perhaps a still picture or at least a scene with very little motion would be better.
Great review and I just picked up this tv. You're right on the money about starting the picture mode in normal, but I was wondering if you ever adjusted the other parameters to ease up on the blown out reds.
Amazing video! super informative and helped me decide to get this TV. I am subscribing to see more.
Caleb, Your header for this video is a source of discussion. TCL is good for the times we live in if the customer is not a video or audio guru. I think most TV's will need professional calibration. Again thanks to everyone at Digital Trends for the great content. I always learn so much. Stay safe. Be well.
I got the TV Wednesday. It is INCREDIBLE! The HDR / Dolby Vision viewing is awesome. Such deep deep blacks, brilliant, vivid colors, virtually no blooming. The screen is extremely clean. Just an amazing 75 inches of excellence.

Yes, i'm excited to see you pit the TCL R635 against the Hisense H9G. I'm leaning towards the H9G but the only concern I have with the H9G is how does it do with gaming without VRR at 4k 60hz and does it actually support gaming at 120hz at any resolution? . On paper VRR sounds much better with the TCL, but there are many reports of bad blooming with the TCL when in game mode and Rtings had the local dimming feature as better implemented on the H9G for video. Though, the game modes on both sets seem to disable many features like local dimming in favor of low latency so please put those two through the ringer in their respective game modes to see how image quality gets effected on both units, and to determine if the H9G's lack of VRR is really an issue or not in the real world?
Super excited for the compare keep up the good work!!!
Excellent review Caleb, I can't wait for your comparision between TCL 6-series and Hisense H9G...Greetings from Croatia..
In Europe, we don't get any of these TVs...
Nice one buddy! I'm looking forward to testing the iPQ calibration app on this TV to help with these color adjustments. What's your impression of the R635 vs the Hisense H9G? By the way I love that you are totally upping your game on these TV reviews!
I’d like to know too 😬😬
Me too
If I am going to buy a budget TV, I won't most likely calibrate it as Caleb said. So, considering this Sony x900h is the best price to performance to features to brand TV this year. It's only $250-$300 more than H9G/R635 now.
Most likely h9f will be better
I just hate he turns off all the smoothing. I like smoothing and motion clarity.
As always, quality videos right here!
My 65" Series R635 just arrived. Replacing an older 49" LG something something model. Love it out of the box. Will be playing with it over the days to come. Thank you for your thoughts. It does help me with a starting point. Waiting on my Sonos Arc to arrive...already have the Gen 3 sub. AT 56, finally treating myself to very good movie experience in my home. btw, had a little trouble following you during Dolby Vison Demo...hmmm
1440p will be pretty indistinguishable at the distance you will sit for a 55 inch. I use the 1440p settings at 120hz for couple xbox one x games on my cx and I can barely see a difference at around 6ft of distance.
We all want to see the tcl vs h9g, stop teasing and do it ASAP, you know we want it.
Picked up an H9G today brought it home screen was out only sound exchanging it for the TCL.
The H9G is trash it has a red ghosting problem
Nice one Caleb, looking forward to your comparison between this and HiSense. I'd also like to see what you think between this and the 8 Series that has been out for a little while and sometimes you can find at similar price to 6 Series and if the improvements are worth it, thanks.
That picture of the waterfall is Multnomah falls here in Oregon, been there many many times! Great vid!
this was a sure buy for me 2 weeks ago but the 4k-120 isn't there. Still a great tv, but I might have to spend a bit more or wait to next year to get a the 645 model
This review is accurate. I returned last years model for this 2020 model. Also returned a Hisense H9G and this TV destroys it as far as upscaling and picture crispness. Buy it!
Exact opposite experience, returned this tv for a Hisense H9G and it utterly annihilates the R635 in every conceivable way.
John Mclain weird. My Hisense had some terrible ghosting, and I wasn’t impressed with the upscaling. Much happier with the TCL. To each their own.
It depends on the panel. This days it's all about the panel. Give me back my panny plasmas
You’ve got a sub...first 4 minutes of the vid and all of it was to my liking.
I just bought this in the 75" and my screen is much less uniform in the corners. I also have a good deal of blooming (very noticeable in subtitling). For me, this model was a sacrifice I was willing to make for an affordable screen of this size, but since my bedroom TV is an OLED I've grown accustomed to pure blacks, so it does distract quite a bit. I'm still tweaking it, but it feel like I'm limited on options and wonder if it's worth the money to have it calibrated. Outdoor long shots have something of a whitish haze that I can't determine how to remove. It gives a smoky appearance to everything. The crisp details on everything close range DO rival my LG OLED, so that was a pleasant surprise. I'll update as I have more time to fiddle with it.
How does the TCL 8 series mini led compare to the 6 series mini led?
Howdy! Thanks for the review!
I just bought the 2019 TCL 8 series for 1k at best buy a few weeks ago, do you think the gaming potential is better on this tv? Or should I continue to be satisfied with the 8?
Actually the 2019 series reviews better for gaming than the 2020 version. Lower latency on the 2019 version for some reason.
The 2020 version supports VRR & ALLM which are the main differences between 2.0 and 2.1. Even though TCL hasn't claimed a 2.1 connection there's no real difference. Two other things to consider, the 75R635 has even better Contrast than the 55R635 do to the increased number of mini LED's and control zones, 240 on the 75".
Second even the PS5 and Xbox X can't produce a 4k picture at 120hz. Most gaming consoles are only truly operating at around 48hz and the new consoles are maxing at around 82hz. So keep that in mind, it will be another 10 years before we ever see true 4 and 8k pictures operating at a true 120hz.
Hell yeah, I just got the 65" 6-series and it's a beast. I love it, and it didn't break the bank (entirey...)
Thank you Caleb for this review
Hey Caleb, can you put this tv up against the Sony X900h please. Would love to see that.

Just ordered one. Since I only use my TVs for gaming and youtube, I figured this was the best bang for the buck. Sure, it will only handle 1440p/120 or 4k/60 , but that's plenty good enough. Especially considering the HDR performance at the price. For Most of us coming from xbox ones, 1440p/120 will be a wildly better experience. Plus, I reckon most games In the next couple years will be designed for 4k/60 anyway. Thanks for the review!

great review Caleb.. as usual.
I'm starting to think that being limited to 1440p when running at 120fps might not be that big of a problem for next gen gaming. The only 2 games announced for next gen that are claiming to support 4k120 are both sidescrollers. Several other games are promising 120fps support, but there is a belief that they will be dropping down the resolution to achieve that.
Most people buy on specs and they don't even realize that you needed a $1,100 600W graphics card to do 4K above 60 hertz!

Super helpful. Have you compared the 6 Series vs the 8 Series? Does the 6 still win on value?
Hey Caleb before anything I just wanna say I love your videos bro. I also wanna say that the roku platform is the most simplest user friendly interface I have ever used. The roku sticks and streaming box(roku ultra) are so smooth and snappy no matter what app you’re using. However I noticed that on the Roku TVs the interface is not as snappy, especially when you are using Netflix and prime videos, but on the streaming sticks and streaming box there’s no lag at all. I was wondering if the newer Roku TVs specifically the one you are reviewing and the other newer series if they face the same problem. I wanna note that it didn’t matter whether the Roku TVs were wired ethernet or connected wirelessly it’s still didn’t perform as well or as smooth as the sticks or boxes. I would like to ask you a favor if you can kindly test it out and let us know if you experience that same problem. I know there are other streaming devices out there but in my opinion I feel like if the Roku TVs interface can be as snappy as their streaming stick and Streaming box, this would be the end all tv that the average consumer would get because of the PRICE and user friendly interface and its picture quality that is getting better every year that this could be the ultimate tv for most people. Thank you again for your time and stay safe

How would you compare this to the TCL 8 series from 2019. It is often on sale for $1000, what would you recommend between the two models?
I have been wondering this too, I haven't seen anyone compare the two to show how, or if the mini led technology has evolved over last year.

@Digital Trends Thanks for the excellent content Caleb 👍 Is this TCL series 6 like an Android TV with all the Google features? as I really want an Android TV etc. Cheers!
I got this TV the day after TCL released it. I was a little nervous since it had not been reviewed yet. However, it's been an awesome TV experience. The dark's on this TV are very good. The first movie we watched was Star Wars The Last Skywalker on Disney + and there are details in the darks I don't remember seeing in the theater. So if your trying to debate between this one and the Hisense H9G....My guess is they will be very very close. The research I've done TCL has good customer support and stands behind their products.

@@samoth8438 So first off for only being 40 I use subtitles more often then I would like to admit :-( LOL BUT.... no I don't notice a lot of blooming. However, it's not blinding or obnoxious to a point of not wanting to use CC.

Another excellent reviews Caleb, excellent. I have the 75 inch on order. I'm a little worried about the pictures being a pain in the butt though.
I wonder why Hisense doesn't build a 75 inch in that model the H9G? I might have looked at that over this but need a 75 inch.
Good question. My own, completely speculative opinion is that Hisense marketing did some research and decided there was not yet a public appetite to spend more than $1500 on any TV with the Hisense brand name. The other models of the H9G sell for 130-135% of their same sized H8G counterparts. Projecting that out, with the H8G coming in at $1250 for a 75 inch, Hisense would have likely had to charge $1600-$1800 for a 75 inch model.

@@BrownBagga Ah, sorry... I'm a Brit and wasn't aware that Panasonic no longer have a tv presence in the US.

There would definitely be a market for cheap, decent quality 4K tvs like the Series 6 in the UK. As far as I'm aware, none of the UK TCL models even support FALD.
Random Pseudonym don’t be jealous the USA TCL TVs are only good it you feed it 4K HDR demos. Most won’t see how bad it is with other content but I made the mistake many years ago when I bought a Pioneer Kuro and can I now see when a TV isn’t working proper.
