      Just to let everyone know, the 75” U8K version of the Hisense TVs uses the ADS Pro panels that are not like the older generation IPS panels.
      ADS or Advanced Plane-to-Line Switching:
      The infrastructure of the ADS panel is the same as PLS or Plane-to-Line Switching. In this, the liquid crystals lie along the same plane always, like IPS displays.
      ADS is different from IPS because it uses a longitudinal electric field and a transverse electric field for parallel liquid crystal movement.

      Echoing my comment below, I paid $999 for the 75" and as a "casual enthusiast" who watches mostly HDR/Dolby Vision content and games I have very little issues with the set. Your complaints are accurate but true AV enthusiasts are already likely locked on to an OLED or a miniLED.

    I originally purchased the Samsung Q60 since it was on sale for Black Friday. My Hisense QLED from a few years ago developed some sick screen burn. My hope was to get an upgrade or at least equal value to that TV. After a week with the Samsung and doing more research, including reviews like this one, I returned it for the TCL. I was worried since I figured Samsung is the best, and perhaps they are in some areas. I am so glad I got this TV so far. After some calibration, the picture is amazing! For the value, it’s an excellent choice and I would recommend it for sure. I certainly like the picture more than the Samsung. Features are easy to use and the remote has a backlight which is pretty dope. Don’t sleep on this one!

  • @Caleb_Denison
    @Caleb_Denison 10 месяцев назад +3

    Now that you mention it, that sounds familiar. I’ll look into it on the QM8, which is coming back to the test bench for a vs. against the X95L. Might have to go on a rant about that.

  • @ModeMan101
    @ModeMan101 10 месяцев назад +24

    Thanks for the really honest review, Caleb. I bought a 55" Q7 a couple of months ago (replacing a 7-year-old TCL P605) and I'm happy with it overall for the price I paid. Despite working in post-production, I'm thankfully not a nit nerd in my spare time, but I still appreciate a decent picture and I do think the Q7 is good value for a mid-range budget TV. Contrast, as you said, is very impressive for a FALD set, and its gaming features are a nice bonus. However, If I had space for a 65" in my living room, I probably would have gone for a QM8. To be honest though, most of the issues I have with the Q7 center around the vagueness of some of the menu settings for picture control in terms of what they do - which I'm guessing is going to be mirrored on the QM8 as they share the same image processor, as well as Google TV OS. I'm also disappointed in Dolby Vision IQ mode forcing motion smoothing to be on, a shame as it actually does a pretty good job of enhancing darker areas of picture in some House Of The Dragon-type scenarios.

    • @Caleb_Denison
      @Caleb_Denison 10 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks for the awesome feedback. I am also frustrated by motion smoothing being on by default in IQ. You can turn it off I believe. But I’m starting to hear that some Q7’s out there aren’t holding on to user settings, which is worriesome. Give it a try, though. It might stick!

    • @ModeMan101
      @ModeMan101 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@Caleb_Denison Cheers for the reply, Caleb! Sadly, as far as I know you can only turn off the motion smoothing in the Dolby Bright/Dark modes, not IQ. The option just isn't there when you bring up the picture settings under IQ. Whether that's by TCL's design or Dolby's insistence, I have no idea. It could even be a combination of the two - I'm not sure what other manufacturers are offering a Dolby IQ mode? Dolby sees it as an "auto" mode , which could be why they think the average consumer would prefer (or not care about) motion smoothing being on. Any idea if the QM8 is the same way?

  • @olternaut
    @olternaut 10 месяцев назад +40

    For the price and the overall incredible value this TV provides, I can live with the flaws. I would say I'm somewhere in between the average consumer and a tech nerd. I'm willing to compromise if I can get most of the features I need from the QM8 series baked into the Q7. For under $1000 for the 75 inch Q7 you're getting more features and performance than the comparable older 6 series 75 inch that used to be between $1300 - $1500. Those flaws that you are pointing out is TCL trying to really aggressively lower the cost of the product so they can have something to attack the market with. I can live with the flaws. So I'm going to target the Q7 for a November Black Friday purchase.

      Stutter: The video appears jerky or choppy.
      Judder: The video appears to "strobe" or flicker.
      Stutter: Try restarting the video player. If that doesn't work, try updating the video player to the latest version.
      Judder: Try changing the frame rate of the video file. You can usually do this by using a video editing software. If that doesn't work, try changing the refresh rate of the display.

The cheapest Samsung with those specs at 55" is about $1300 CAD (QN55Q80CAFXZC) while TLC has a model at $750 CAD (55Q750G-CA). Question is, at such a high price difference, what am I compromising by going with TLC? Is this a brand that only last a couple of years before showing problems?

    Not sure if you read the comments but I need some help. I bought a QN90A two years ago and it has dimmed considerably to the point I hate it. I also found the ultra wide viewing angle presented vertical style banding dse that bothered me. I want to replace it but can’t decide what to get. The Qn90c doesn’t seem like a huge improvement. The Sony x93l intrigues me for the upscaling and lack of dse but again, not sure if it’s on the same level as the Qn90a. The LG G3 looks awesome but as an everyday tv, I worry about upscaling and burn in. Thoughts?

    I bought a new Q 7 and returned it. It had great contrast and blooming control but I couldn’t get over the poor upscaling. Nothing under 4k looked clear. Ended up getting the Hisense U8k and love it! Way better upscaling. Way better everything really. Just don’t use it in a room where you’d need a wide viewing angle. Actually bought a Samsung Q 80c and returned that too before I got the U8k. The Q80c is junk. Lots of blooming, poor contrast, average upscaling. That basically performed like a budget tv.

For your use as a multi use tv. tcl q7 and qm8 would be what u need. If u want size there the TCL 98 inch TV at $2,000 USD. There is the Sony x90l if u want better picture quality.

They will not be able to solve for side angle viewing. Still Debating on TCL QM8 or LG C3 or G3 or Sony OLED $$$$$.

    I bought this TV a couple months ago on sale for like 650 after tax. Out-of-the-box is terrible. I can't even hire a calibrator here. So, coming from an LG C9, I'm pretty disappointed. The Rtings settings for the white points seem to help a lot. Most users would rather have vibrant colors so they won't care, but this TV is capable and after calibration, it could be fantastic. Honestly, not super disappointed because price was good in comparison, but without substantial calibration equipment and several hours of work, it does a decent job. Someone really needs to put pressure on companies to have a standard calibration at the factory. They leave so much on the table by not doing it. The technology in this price range is at the point where anyone could have a great TV and experience amazing performance, but the average consumer won't calibrate this TV and that's where this TV fails for me. I'll still keep it because I needed a cheap large TV, but disappointed in how much potential it has that I, personally, am unable to unlock.
    Great review and thanks for your honesty. Maybe TCL will adopt new factory calibrations in the future.

      I don’t think it has regressed, per se. Some setbacks yes, but overall this Tv looks far better than the older 4 and 5 series sets. It does more right than it does wrong. • @Caleb_Denison
      @Caleb_Denison 10 месяцев назад +5

      I’ll say this, though: I think you would find the Q7 to be a significant upgrade over your current 4 series. Like, you would probably be one of the folks I suggested may get a Q7 home and then wonder what I was whining about in this review.

    • @jackinblack9105
      @jackinblack9105 10 месяцев назад

      @@Caleb_Denison Thanks. Would you say it's a downgrade from the 6 series? The Q7 seems to be in a weird spot. Better than a 5 series but not flagship. I would go QM8 but for some reason TCL decided not to release it in a 55". I could go for an older 6 series as some places still have them in stock but supplies are running out.

    • @ModeMan101
      @ModeMan101 10 месяцев назад

      @@jackinblack9105 I was in the same boat as you, eyeing the QM8 which seemed to be the successor to the 6 series, but disappointed that TCL decided not to offer a 55" unit. It seems that most manufacturers now consider the "big screen TV" category to mean 65" and up. The 55" 6 series' mini-LED backlighting does have the upper hand over the Q7 in terms of peak brightness and dimming zones, but the Q7 is still pretty impressive-looking in my opinion, especially considering it's a QLED. I decided on the Q7 over a 6 series mainly after reading that it shares the same image processor as the QM8. If you do end up going for a 6 series, I wouldn't get anything older than the 2022 R655 model.
