I ended up needing a laptop in a pinch a few weeks ago and went with a G14 because of an LTT review (it's great). 4k at 15 inches is my ideal laptop. I don't game a lot and the value of vertical resolution/workspace is hard to understate for most non-gaming workloads. The horizontal resolution at 1440p is good enough to do side-by-side windows without getting sent to crappy mobile sites in your browser, viewing full pdf/word pages, and you have to scroll a lot less in excel.
My take on 4K displays on laptops - I want one because I usually work more than I play games and the added fidelity really helps with headaches and making my eyes sore less especially while working with text. When the display also supports high frame rate, it's win-win. I have no problem setting the game to 1080p on this monitor and playing at 144Hz because the scaling works great at these resolutions and I don't need the same level of detail for a short period of time to play a match at CSGO... Also having 4K streaming services is great. If it was also possible to downsample already low-bitrate Netflix, I would consider smaller resolutions.
My 17" razer has a 17" 4k 120hz screen. Best of both worlds. Programming/CAD at 4k. Ultra high DPI for eye fatigue when programming. Then bump down to 1080p for gaming to make sure you get the full 120hz. You can't bump a 1440p to 1080p without that interpolation
I am also waiting for next gen Ryzen laptops and maybe next gen graphics, and now also next gen screens... Last time I got a new laptop was because my old one died, and I had to get the best one currently in stock, this time I can hpefully wait until something new and exiting comes out.
@@taharauf7775 its just something that you notice after watching a bit. One video that stands out is about this exact issue actually: Linus is at a trade show or smth and is showing off an experimental (Zephyrus?) high refresh-rate laptop. He opens the video by saying the engineers mentioned that he'll really like this prototype. I forget the video title, it was about a year ago.
About that shift key: you can remap the backslash key to be an extension of the shift key. I've used a laptop with that hack for a few years, and you just forget the shift key isn't the way it's supposed to be
I like how the double screened laptop looks like. It would be useful to bind some personal buttons there, or even just as a second screen it's really useful. I usually use my phone as a second screen or using any free corner of the laptop screen with a picture in picture thing from Google Chrome to watch any TV or RUclips stuff while playing games. And i usually bind any buttons i need on a numpad cause i never use them for its purpose. And also touchpad i usually keep turned off not to touch it accidently while typing. Used to use an external mouse instead and a touchpad when not placed the laptop properly.
The split shift key is the best thing ever. On the german keyboard layout the left shift key is also split. This gives you an extra key in the WASD are. Which is massivly valuable for gaming
@@Lahoje splitting hairs really. 24 or 30 doesnt really matter, theyre both stuttery flickery messes. when linus himself claims in this very video he would rather 144hz at 1440p than 60hz at 4k, 24/30 is from the stone age.
Linus, gotta disagree with you on the matte and glossy displays there. The glossy displays look SO much better than the matte ones. The 2560x1440 Retina display in my MacBook Pro looks way better than any matte display, even at 1080p the difference is there.
5:29 If you look on the _2_ key, it's shift key is _"_ which means it's not an American keyboard layout. I'm not sure what a Canadian keyboard has there, when I google it it seems it's the same as a us keyboard with the _@_ there, but I don't know. Anyway, that means that the backslash key should be where it is. I have a Zephyrus G14 and the backslash key is there too. Although, my shift key is a little wider than a regular key unlike the one in the video, in which case I agree that the shift key should be bigger. But the shift key shouldn't take up that whole space because the backlash is supposed to be there.
That shift key is fine. It is how it should be. Short. There is extra key there. Keyboards which eed fixing are the ones which have long shift. And/or don't have a numpad.
The video that you have seen on RUclips is 30fbs , also your screen(monitor) that you are using to watch youtube doesn't support 360HZ , you have to use that laptop by yourself to feel the smoothness, It's amazing experience specially if you have a good GPU that can runs the games over 200fbs

Honestly, I wish they'd add a knob/joystick to it, without removing the trackpad. And, as you said, remove that button between Left Shift and Z. That button is really badly placed. I would personally place the joystick/knob either between Right Control and UP (arrow key), or between the UP (arrow key) and trackpad. And two scroll buttons wouldn't hurt, between left-click and right-click, next to the trackpad. For like +$50 for the consumer, they could add those changes and please everybody. Also, having some tactile feedback to keys, for orientating ourselves to the keys without looking at them (even if they have RGB) would be nice. Move the F1-F4 more to the left, move F5-F8 more to the left, and leave the F9-F12 and Del/Ins where they are, and make the "ridges" on W, F, and G extend to the ends of the letters, so we can feel them from the nearby letters, if we touch the margins of the letters with ridges.
My last bought monitor is a 1440p 21:9 monitor with 100hz and as you said, it's the sweet spot for everything! I have a clear image, high frame rates and my PC is not even going like an airplane engine ✌️
The thing that I would really love to see in a laptop is a screen on rails that could extend upwards a foot or two so that you could actually have decent posture while using it instead of always looking downward.
I wish we'd come up with some kind of tech that rivals the way CRTs worked. Man... Those things are the best. a CRT monitor could do 800x600 and it'd be native not stretched stuff and same with high res just... remove the flicker/high pitch ring and bruuuuh instant love.
Well, Asus went all AMD 5000 series for their 2021 ROG line of products. They also went with either the 300hrz 1080p or 165hrz 1140p panel options. 4k is available on the Zephyrus Duo or 300hrz 1080p.

@Yes 》《 Just like we'll come to a point where more pixels on a phone is objectively 100% unneccesary, that will also happen with refresh rate. I don't know where that will be but I wouldn't be surprised if we hit that sooner than we think.
@@xX12VincEXx I'll tell you right now you'll not have a decent 4k screen at 480hz and a machine that can run it so that it isnt completely stupid in 13 years. Hit me up later! @Yes 》《 yeah, and how come that didnt explode after sony released one several years ago? Samsung is rumored to drop the resolution on the s21 and the s20 wasn't even 4k to begin with. My point was, we will reach a point where a tech feature will be fully objectively unneccesary and a waste of money to "improve" just because we can. Okay I'll put it like this. Not regarding flip phones/hybrid tablets but normal phones. Some day 4K screens will be so dirt cheap and easy to make, yes that can and will probably be the standard. Some people can tell the difference and most wont, whatever. My prediction is that somewhere _after_ that in the future, the only reason why 8K would become standard on all phones even down to the super cheap budget ones is that those types of panels are so prevalent in everything produced while 4K panels aren't so we come to a point where it's *cheaper* to put an 8K display in something instead of 1080,1440,4K because it's easier for samsung or who ever to just pump out super high resolution displays to use in everything including your fridge. We're not going to switch over to 8K phones because of the amazing benefits it would bring but because of cost in this far future. They're not going to keep pushing refresh rate until we have 10,000hz monitors, even tech have a limit where it's completely nonsense to improve just because we can. If it happens, it's not because our eyeballs get a benefit but something else.

linus, there's one reason for a 4k panel on a 15 or smaller screen: the way windows deals with it changes (you have more display options with 4k, both for resolution and for scaling)
The nice thing with 4K 120+Hz is that you can game in 1440p 120Hz, and can do productivity stuff in 4K. I can't wait to be able to afford a 32" 4K 120 or 144Hz monitor. At least my current laptop specs can properly run it at full specs anyway (unless it's the RTX-less Quake 2 or Half life 1).

I’m just in awe to the amount of progression the industry has seen. I grew up playing on the game boy, nes, and all those classics. I ended up needing a laptop in a pinch a few weeks ago and went with a G14 because of an LTT review (it's great).
I'm super glad the G14 doesn't have that micro shift key that that one had in this video...that'd drive me crazy! Even with an external K+M, I need good built-in stuff for travel and business reasons.
I look forward to a higher resolution display, and very well may end up upgrading to whatever they put out next if they're able to maintain the same level of build quality. Things get a bit smushed on a 14" display when it comes to workflow, but the hardware and casing is excellent. Well made, understated, and a good price to performance.

The horizontal resolution at 1440p is good enough to do side-by-side windows without getting sent to crappy mobile sites in your browser, viewing full pdf/word pages, and you have to scroll a lot less in excel.

30 hz isn't a problem with videos though.
That glitching ROG logo looks amazing.

Pretty sure the shift key is too small anyways

A: optimizing games like never before reaching fps in the 500s when you max the ultra ridiculous ultra settings, or
B: Cramming every fucking thing they can into every game that we didnt even ask for making a lot of them almost impossible to run even at a solid ~100 fps with a monster setup today?
