Yeah we couldn't find a better title for this one, but this week Jonny and the Brad finish their series on lambic with an exploration of the weirder lambic ingredients, including raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and...basil.

Enjoyed watching this mini series, came across this bottle last Saturday night, Boon, Oude Geuze Boon a l’Ancienne Vat 109 Mono Blend, very nice indeed.
+John Henfrey the single vats are well worth the money - so complex as it's all 3 year lambic save for a little young lambic so it carbonated in the bottle. Beer Merchants have a pack of four different ones for sale.

Another lovely selection. I have them all at home right now! The lindemans is really a surprising beer. I tried it at the brewery for the first time, really fresh and it was bang! wtf is this.

I had oud bijtje 6months ago or something, ordered it for my girlfriend because of the strawberries.. mistakes were made.. it was definatly more like the previous bottles you had and not this one, suuuper sour and particular taste to it.
haha yeah it used to be properly funky. If you're looking for a smoother, sweeter lambic the Lindemans (non-cuvee) ones are what to go for - or the straight Boon Kriek and Fram.
I had the ginger gueuze the other day, didn't quite care for it. it was very dry and lemon-y but not in a very pleasing way, in my opinion.
Can't judge yet but when we try it we may well pop it on the channel - we don't expect to love it but Lindemans wouldn't put out a beer they weren't happy with so trying to keep an open mind!

You mean actually at Cantillon? They make sure they have year round supply and always have specials to drink in, but for takeway most of the time it is just core beers (geuze, fram, kriek).
There won't be much in the UK right now and it only comes in twice a year (Feb and September). Our taproom will have some in the next few weeks I expect, as will various pubs and shops around the UK. But it will last about a week.
That Cantillon is amazing, but I feel that the 3F frambroise was better. Thoughts?

The Hommage is amazing. If you go to the tasting room in Beersel you can try some of their fruited blends, and those were the best beers I've ever had in my life.
When I moved from England to Australia 12 years ago, craft beer was called real ale. I also remember there was CAMRA which I think stands for Campaign for Real Ale. What happened to the term Real Ale and why did it change to craft beer?
they are two slightly different things. Real ale is a way of serving beer - conditioning at the pub to be naturally carbonated and unpasteurised. Craft beer is a much less defined term that (to us) means beer brewed to be flavour forward, with care, by passionate beer lovers. It doesn't have to be served in any way or at any temperature. So there are lots of real ales that could be deemed "craft beer" and lots of craft beer this is real ale.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I wasn't aware that beer was pasteurised, I assumed the alcohol in the beer would make it sterile (more or less). Seems I have some gaps in my beer knowledge, thank you.
Indeed! The only reason to pasteurise really is for flavour stability, but it changes that flavour completely. Very few craft beers are pasteurised but sometimes they are, especially for export
Ok, so..... here's a stupid question maybe, but.... Green bottles aren't the best for beer, because it lets through more light and that can influence a beer in a bad way. Now, lambics can be safed for a long time. How come so many lambics/guezes are bottled in a green bottles??
Good question! That's because green bottles allow certain frequencies of light that cause the beer to be "lightstruck" which basically messes up the chemical bonds involved with hop flavour, changing fruitiness to dank, weedy, earthy dust.
With a beer that doesn't have a lot of hop aroma or flavour like a lambic then it's less important - or even desired. Jester King purposely use green bottles to enhance that dusty umami edge.
See, I knew that first part, and couldn't figure out why a brewer would want that one purpose. But that explination makes total sense!! Thanks!

Chuffed to hear you say that! Glad the vids bring you joy. Agreed badly drawn boobs are all good but we feel selling stuff with it is exploitative and a bit degrading. Lots of women don't want it there so we think the industry needs to listen to them!

That is pretty weak. You half -assed say "[fyi i am ad-libbing here...] oh mate thats not cool! there are tits on the label" then in the comments of the video talk about the exploitation and degradation of women? yet here we are, 1.5 years later from your acquisition of the Rose de Gambinus. And you're still publicising the exploitation and degradation of women. 10/10 ethics, fellas. Did the label just sneak up on you? If you don't agree with it morally, do something about it. Don't propagate it on the largest video sharing platform in the world.
