I keep coming back to this site to see and hear Nick Santo and group do this rendition. This one features some great harmonies of the backing vocals. It's the best rendition I have heard and Santo looks good in this year. Had to have been before his health declined. It means a lot to me to see him doing this song which was their biggest hit and hearing his voice, knowing this is the man who sung the ORIGINAL recording in 1960! Now he is gone and all I have is this video of him and the 45rpm and memories of 1960.
So sorry of Nicks passing--deepest condolences to his family. What a contribution this group made to the best music of the time.Nick & the Capris live forever on The Tube & in recordings.
Wish I had this entire program I bet they featured some great groups from the 1950s. They wont be passing this way again. For baby boomers like me, who were alive and saw these times, these are the icons of my early life! And I am watching them fade out like the morning star fades at dawn! And it hurts...
I dig what you are sayin' I wasn't born till 1970 grew up in the Philadelphia area, been diggin' Doo Wop since I was a kid, these groups and their songs are like old friends it truly hurts to see them pass, been blessed to have seen and met many of these great singers.
This was 1982, so Nick was 41 at this time. That's why he looks so much like himself. At this time that song (Theres A Moon Out Tonight) was about 22 years old. 22 years since 1960.
A MUST in anyone's collection who is a true fan of DOO WOP. It is HIGH on the list of the greatest doo wop classics of ALL TIME. It's right up there with One Summer Night by the Danleers and Earth Angel by the Penguins. This one song immortalizes Nick Santo and the group beyond any question. It probably is the last single of the doo wop Golden era of the 1950s from 1954 to 1960.
So well done, Nick and the backing vocals. The backing vocals get A+ on their harmonizing. Their ending on this song is one the best I have heard. It's right up there with the coda on Like To Get To Know You by Spanky and Our Gang of 1968.
Magnificent performance of Moon out Tonight! The Capris in 1982 included Nick Santo, Mike Mincelli, and Frank Reina (lead, 1st tenor, 2nd tenor) who are originals. Many other group members (Mystics, Harptones, etc) are in the hallway scene.
Way back in the early 2000s, I lived in Phx.. The original bass voice and one of the co-writers of the song was salon owner. He explained that shortly after the release and a few song dates , the he and the lead/co writer had a falling out. My friend had nothing ever to do with the other original members again. It must have been one major fight. He showed me a monthly Royality check for 20 cents he had been receiving since the 60s. He showed me the check because I liked the song and could not believe I was taking to one of the originals of the Capris. The way I found out was one day we were talking in his salon. I knew he was Italian he got a kick out of sharing stories about his Italian neighborhood way back in the day. Suddenly his wife chimed in my husband was one of the original Capris. and so we talk some more. He seemed, not bitter but thought about it being not a big deal....Funny... He also had the salon that was briefly in the movie Good Fellas. You can see him in the salon as one of the characters passes through. He knew all those original wise guys from his neighborhood were some scenes were shot. Ok, yes, I thought was interesting he grew up a classic Italian neighborhood in New York and he was friends with some of the Mob guys because they went to him for their hair pieces.
@catlarry & @dmb71mach351 thank you sir, i was saddened and shocked. but God needs him in His house to sing there's a moon out tonight :') God bless his soul and we love him forever.
Yes he did . I went all through grade school with Nicky . We lost touch and I met him one day in our neighborhood . He said he married a girl from Italy . He had shortened his name it was Santamaria . RIP Nicky
@@CLLeigh actually, Larry and CL he died just before New Year’s, December 30, 2010 from cancer. Saw him a number of times at clubs in New Jersey. Very gracious, nice guy, always mingled with the audience. Genuine smile and chat. Whenever there is a beautiful moon, like tonight, I think of Nick and the Capris
Of all the clips of Moon, this is the BEST.
I am a 45 yo that grew up listening to doowops thanks to Ken Held Doo Wop Shop in South Fl. This is where I first heard this classic. RIP Nick.
Boy would be nice, if they still made music like this today.
Agree.
They can't.

The cover of "Daddys Home" at the beginning is actually better than the original ... I wished the capris would have recorded it
One Summer Night, I Wonder Why and There's a Moon Out Tonight, in any order!
Sounds like the record
Look who's in the back round do you recognize the guy with the glasses on? Who is it? ( Willie Winfield). RIP Nick
