3-Ingredient Shower Gel - The Easiest Shower Gel You'll Ever Make!

  • UPDATE: For an updated recipe, check this out: • Homemade Oatmeal Milk ...
    I realized that for 50 milliliters water (& 1 gram guar gum), you only need 15 milliliters of surfactant
    Today I am showing you how to make shower gel.
    This recipe is simple; it only requires 3 ingredients (water, guar gum, & a surfactant). And it makes a GREAT shower gel. I’m also sharing a minty fresh recipe & a rich & moisturizing recipe. The recipes may be customized however you want! Add more or less butter, oil, surfactant, or whatever other ingredient you can think of! It doesn’t matter which amounts you change or the different ingredients you add, the shower gel will still come out great! I like to make the gel base first, divide it, then make different types of shower gel.
    GEL BASE: 150 milliliters distilled water (or hydrosol), 3 grams guar gum (or 6 grams xanthan gum) + ½ milliliter preservative (Germall Plus). I do recommend a preservative. You can make shower gel without it, but it will not last as long and may grow mold. For thinner shower gel, add more water &/or less guar gum. For thicker shower gel, add less water &/or more guar gum. Once the gel base is blended & emulsified, slowly stir in any liquid surfactant (you can add ½ - ¾ of water weight, however, 1/2 the amount will work fine, no need to waste your precious surfactant). Slowly stir in the surfactant (so bubbles aren't created). Don’t blend gel with electric blender/mixer once surfactant is added. RICH & MOISTURIZING: 65 grams of gel base, 20 grams melted butter (kokum), 10 milliliters carrier oil (Vitamin E), 5 milliliters fragrance oil (vanilla lace). Emulsify. Slowly stir in 40 milliliters of surfactant (I used coco glucoside because it’s thicker).
    MINT FRESH: 65 grams of gel base, 20 grams carrier oil (hempseed), 3 milliliters mint oil (melt equal parts of menthol crystals & coconut oil * Mint oil crystalizes; microwave 10 seconds before each use), 5 milliliters fragrance oil (peppermint, teakwood, fierce, & birch). Emulsify ingredients. Slowly stir in 40 milliliters of liquid surfactant (I used decyl glucoside because I was trying different surfactants). + 1 teaspoon jojoba beads & 1 drop aqua liquid food colorant. *** The jojoba beads used came blue, but I will try to dye the white beads with liquid food colorant & let you know how that turns out! NOTE: For thinner shower gel, add water or a really thin surfactant, like castile soap. Adding a bit of glycerin turns the gel base an opaque white. NOTE: Shower gels can't be thickened once the surfactant is added. PACKAGING: I recommend a plastic bottle than can be squeezed. CLEAR SPARKLING GEL: 75 milliliters distilled water, 1 gram guar gum, a little bit of fragrance oil (optional). Adding anything else will cause gel to become cloudy. RESULTS: I ran out of shower gel & have been sick with coronavirus for a week so I decided to make my own. REALLY glad I did! HAPPY SHOWER GEL-MAKING! & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! UPDATE: My shower gel was made a week ago & it still hasn't separated. However, I had some left over "sparkling" gel that I put in a bottle & that separated a little bit, but the sparkling gel added to the shower gel stayed the same.

Or did you have another made in advance without the surfactant added? I want to try this but unsure if it was added in the gel then added in the rich and moisturizing gel at the end (40 ml) as well. Thanks in advance

    Did you color your jojoba beads or did you get them that color

      I just ordered some white ones to make custom colors. However, those were ordered like that. I was glad I got to use them because I was beginning to think I never would!

    This may be a silly question but I’m going to ask it anyway. Did you use Castile soap and a liquid surfactant? Or just one or the other? The video shows the Quinn’s Castile soap but you listed both in the ingredients. I want to be sure before making this. I sure hope you’re feeling better, sending love and healing light to
    You ❤️

      Thank you! I added coco glucoside. Then I found the shower gel just a bit too thick, so then I demonstrated how you can thin it out with castile soap (or water, either one). But to answer your question, you don't need both! One or the other will work just as good!

    Do you use Castile soap as your surfactant or glycerin?

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab  2 года назад +2

      glycerin isnt a surfactant. I used castile soap, coco betaine, coco glucoside, or decyl glucoside. Any of these are fine

    So in the 3 ingredients shown early in the video the surfactant was castille soap. But you used others in the recipes. Which one was castille used?

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab  2 года назад

      I don't remember. I was trying to demonstrate that you can use ANY surfactant! They all essentially worked the same though; I couldn't tell the difference.

    Hi, I have read somewhere that using single surfactant will be harsh on skin. To make it milder using another surfactant. Pardon me if I'm wrong. I'm also in the learning phase. Can you please educate me. Thank you for sharing your experience with us ❤️

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab  2 года назад

      That’s ok. Happy to help. I’ve never heard that. As far as I know A single surfactant isn’t any more harsh on the skin than adding 2-3 different ones (that all total the same amount as the single). Surfactants can vary in strength tho; some are more mild than others. In this recipe I tried different ones, but coco betaine is a mild surfactant that always works well.
