Badlander 100 owner here, I agree with everything you're saying. You use a bit more gain than me, but hey it sounds great. Excellent video!
When I still had mine, cranking the presence and treble was the only way it didn’t sound like it had a blanket over the speakers. Now I have a Road King, and that is much more suited to my ears, and is the perfect match to my Mark IV
Wow I'm really surprised. When I crank the presence and treble, it makes my ears bleed. I wonder if you had a defective unit?
@@TONEWARSgearshow It's possible. The guy I traded it to said he loves it so I guess I'll never find out
Really appreciate the very detailed rundown of this amp. I’ve been considering a Mesa and this has helped a lot. Thanks!
My pleasure. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
thank you so much for making this video! obviously you have gone over it more than once in great detail while live, but THIS is the video this amp has needed for quite some time and im glad you were the one to deliver it.
It was totally my pleasure. Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
I agree man, great job
Thank you for comparing the EL34 and 6L6 tubes. To my knowledge I have always used 6L6's but have been curious to hear a comparison of them with the EL34s. The EL34s definitely would work in the right music but a 6L6 is for me. 👍
Totally agree with you such a great amp and thanks for all the tips
Using Mesa’s Grid Slammer as boost and it sounds phenomenal
Wow, the 6L6 sounds better in every regard. Im gonna swap mine out. Thanks for taking the time.
Great tones! Thanks. I like the Mesa Cleo because it really opens the amp up on all switch settings without mudding the tone. Feels better too.
That 6L6 crunch is huge
It would be interesting to hear the badlander vs the herbert, specially in terms of compression and gain structure. Good demo, keep it up! thx
Great idea. I can make that happen
Great like always!
The best I’ve heard it sound was when it was plugged in to 65 watt Creambacks big difference in an upfront sound
Great video! I agree with all the points you made on this amp.
What are the settings you use for your Badlander (for crunch and crush modes)? Just curious to know what your settings are most of the time.
You have that amp set almost exactly as I did my 92 rev f dual rec. Wish I still had it too. My settings were, Bass all the way up, mids at 10, 1030, treble at 1230 presence at 12 and I had my gain at 3. 3 was all the usable gain, anything after that was just more noise. And I never used a boost. Didn't need it. Great vidio and excellent playing brother. GOD bless and be cool.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
What? Just 27 Minutes? The shortest Video this year so far? Man you gave more time to Louis Torres than to the Badlander ;-)
Anyway.... i love it.
Haha thanks for commenting. I will definitely be doing more short videos in the near future.
Great video! How do the cabclone modles sound through a regular speaker cab? The Sweetwater channel demonstrated the feature through a normal Boogie cab. I thought that was odd as most IRs are played through FRFR speaker cabs.
Probably the only amp you can actually hear the difference on a phone listening
I think anyone who owns a Badlander will agree that it was made specifically for people who boost their amps. I mean seriously you can hear exactly what they want you to do with it. I use my quad cortex with the badlander's power section half the time I use it and I can sound like any Amp in the world and sometimes better because the circuitry in the Badlander makes everything sound so tight and aggressive. If any time I need some sag I just change the amp on the QC. Awesome video such a huge difference with the 6l6's.
It’s be cool if Mesa made a lunchbox Badlander like the rectifier 25
That would be interesting. If they make one, I'll definitely check it out
A must watch video if you own a Mesa Badlander!
Wish I could afford one! I have an older BFG Modified DUAL Rec that I doubt I could ever sell. That said it's modified well and is much tighter than stock.
I'd really like to compare the badlander to a modified dual rec. That would be a cool shootout.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Agree! Brian from BFG Amplification did a killer job on this beast. If I lived near you, I'd drop it off and say have it it man! :)
If you had to choose just one. Badlander or Evh stealth?
I'm never afraid to dial an amp to the extremes, I don't even care; use the full range of the control, if it's usable.
I like the el34 personally
Agree. The amp sounds "angrier" with EL34s. Keep in mind Mesa designed this amp specifically for EL34s.
That "spike" comes from the pre amp tubes
So did you use the correct bias-settings for both tube-sets? Or did you use the higher (EL34) setting on the 6L6 set too?
Yes
Try this with a TC-50
My badlander has little to no volume today when I fired it up in the studio... would you happen to know what the issue is?
Sorry to hear that. I have no idea what would cause that.
Maybe a tube issue?
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank you, that's what I was thinking, the tubes have a weird blue hue to them. Will jjs 6ca7 work to replace the el34s in the badlander... also love your videos!!!
Du u prefer the Badlander over the Dual Rec?
Yes, big time. Better voiced, no fizz and no flub
@@TONEWARSgearshow
I have The Engl Fireball, JCM 2000, EVH and a Mini Rectifer and search for a good Mesa. Thank you very much!
What pickups did u use? Love the sound.
Thank you very much. I used the sonic ecstasy pickups from demarzio
@@TONEWARSgearshow
Ah the DT stuff. Is it passive or active? Did u try the IR output? How close is it? Im about to buy both amp and pickup now! 😂
@@ronnymilianowicz5228 they are passive...and amazing! I haven't tried the Di out yet but I'm sure it's decent.
I have a Badlander 100 on the way. What 6l6's are you using?
I use the Mesa ones
@@TONEWARSgearshow thanks man!
@@hessianlonghair my pleasure
Hey what 6L6 tubes did you use? Mesa?
Yes Mesa
what boost pedal are you using?
If memory serves, it's the Precision Drive
6ca7 are the shnizzle.

Only 1 tip is needed to make a Mesa product sound good. Sell it and buy any other amp out there. THAT is the best way to make any Mesa product sound good. Count your Mesa Sale Money while some other guy "fiddles" with it for years trying to find "good tone"
Lol
Or get better at setting amps. Look up ola englund he can tone shape any amp in minutes. I have a rectifier and it sounds amazing. Nothing compares. You need a decent guitar and pickups and pedal. People think they can buy a mesa and run shit guitars and equipment into it and it will sound great because it's a mesa
@@nathanbarth7909 The Mark of a good amp is when it sounds good at any setting. The Peavey 5150 series sounds good at any setting. The DR Z amps sound good at any setting. Jet City Amps sound good at any setting. ALL Marshall amps sound good at any setting. Line 6 Spider 2 Amps sound good at any setting. The Mesa amps sound fat, flubby and add way too much sizzle to be taken seriously as a top contender. Let's face facts, Mesa continues to add more push/pull functions; a 5 band EQ, more push/pull methods of clipping and the amps continue to sound bad....unless you hit them with a boutique boost pedal and a 3500.00 JP signature guitar. The Boost fixes the flub and the JP fixes the sizzle. The only good amp that Mesa has ever made is the Stilleto and it is a copy of a JCM 2000. Let's not forget that Metallica heavily modified their Mesa and then slaved that into a Marshall power section. Mesa became popular with the "NU-METAL" players because they were available, cheap, and they were loud. Lets face it; NO ONE EVER HAS SAID "BLANK NU METAL BAND HAS AWESOME GUITAR TONE" Instead, Guitar World ran articles on "tips and tricks" to get that Nu-metal sound to "work for you" Bottom line is this: Mesa has a fantastic Marketing dept and they pay JP a metric ton of money (and he still left to do his own plugin with NEURAL) to make bad designs sound tolerable. Why else would JP design so many pedals? He needs them to make his insufferable Mesa sound decent. Facts.
@@benburnett8109 I disagree
if you need a boost then the amp frickin sucks. get a crate.
A crate 😂
@@VisceralDementia they sound better than an unboosted mesa ALL DAY
