    It doesn't take a lot of pressure to hurt the nerves if you aim correctly, so learning the position of the nerves is crucial. Also, prioritising speed over power is usually a better option if you want to hurt the nerves without having your kicks blocked (plus a blocked power kick will hurt you more than it hurts them). And as always, high focus should always be given to turning your hips into the kick for maximum power.

    Nice Video. Very clear and understandable! What I have been missing is what actually "destroys" the opponents leg, when using a Low Kick. Such as strikes to the space between the leg muscles, or hitting the muscle attachments and the backside of the knee. Nonetheless I really enjoyed this vid!

    You're kicking is good, but I noticed at about 0:32 you're hands are positioned wrong. This is crucial to your kicking. You don't want to be side stepped then punched to the ground. When doing the round kick your lead hand (in this case your left) should be cuffed with palm out to cover your face is you turn for the kick. You shouldn't wait till you have already delivered the kick to cover.

    The Muay Thai round kick depend upon the shin bone area as impact point. So the concept is smash your shin bone like a base ball bat. So its impact is very strong. this is also the way of doing roundhouse kick by other martial art style. Muay Thai and other style also uses the back of the foot as impact point and you can see this when they kick on the head. In Karate, the ball of the foot is the impact point for round kick on the head and on the body. This is like smashing the protruding part of a hammer head on the target instead of the flat part (back of the foot) and handle(shin bone area). if you compare this styles, the smashing shin bone and back of the foot appears very strong on impact while the impact of the ball of the foot is weak but truly the force is driven on a small, area the protruding ball of the foot like the protruding hammer head.

    • @mithshude
      @mithshude 8 лет назад

      MonkiBoi no, the front kick is but not the round kick.
      look at where the guy in this video is standing when he lands his low kicks. do you think the other person would be able to throw a punch from that distance?

    • @dibhassan4584
      @dibhassan4584 8 лет назад

      Yeah, but in a street fight i can bet the opponent wouldn't think of punching. They would think more about getting away and the hands there are used as balance

    • @mithshude
      @mithshude 8 лет назад

      MonkiBoi first of all that depends on your opponent, and if youre attacked by a unexperienced person im willing to bet that hes going to wave at you wether you kick him or not, meaning that your tradeoff will be a leg kick vs a punch in the face.
      if its an exerienced person youll just get a jab and a broken nose if you try this without holding a guard

  • @TheHazardousHazmat

    If you catch a leg and are unable to sweep by taking out there support leg you can also try to go up, my wrestling coach called it the tree topper, you simply lift the leg you caught above your opponents head and move toward them in a fluid motion pushing them off balance and onto there back.

    For sports fighting kicks are safer because a lot of the moves that take advantage of a caught leg are illegal to perform.
    From my experience, kicks in a street fight are extremely risky especially against aggressive opponents that keep moving in on you. I have more then once intercepted and caught a kick. When that happened it was over for my opponent. Elbow drops on the caught leg can hyper extend or break the leg, or a kick to the inside of the supporting leg can break ankles or hyper extend knees. You can sweep the supporting leg and if you can get your hand under their chin power drive their skull into the concrete. There seems no end to the badness that can be done in that situation.
    Once an opponent has your leg to my knowledge there is not a lot you can do. More so being a south paw, I would start fighting as if I was a right handed fighter and switch my stance in my first combo. This usually put my opponent off balance. While rare, it is something you have to watch for because south paws are faster and stronger on that side then you would normally expect increasing the chance that they can catch your kick. Also if your opponent recognizes your fighting style to include a lot of kicks they will be watching for them. In my neighborhood the were muay thai and Karate training facilities so I got very good a reading for an incoming kick, sometimes even opening up to invite the kick so I could catch it.
    My advice from several years of on the street, gang fights is don't kick or if you do, keep it low. Strike for the ankles, or the top of the feet, where you can do it very fast at minimal risk of being caught and can be following with a combo, grapple, or body check. Also if you are fighting a south paw watch out for him stepping on you foot. Often when I go in I will step on my opponents foot, surprising and throwing them off balance when they try shuffle or back step. Often it caused opponents to sprain or twist their ankles.
    Shane, you have a lot of good advice and examples. Could you go through the risks of having a kick caught and show maneuvers of how to escape or counter when an opponent has successfully grabbed your leg. Street fighters that had their kick get caught were the ones I saw get it the worse in street fights I have witnessed and been part of, and I am wondering how or if they could have avoided what happened to them.

    Teep to the Knee (In Taekkyeon its called Ahn oor Gore ee) in the video your attacking the lateral side of the knee from a closed fighting stance. Very Dangerous. If the kick is thrown in an elliptical trajectory, going a little high to low then pushing the knee back/down/45degrees. Our basic version is from a open stance (left foot to opponents inner left thigh (just above the knee, then almost sliding down the knee as the pressure builds). Like the videos, honestly!

      Basically if you're ready for everything from striking to ground and so on, you have better chances to read the next move whatever it is. Finally, the eye-distance stuff and a good footwork both closes possibilities for your opponent and also gives you more time and space to see the next move coming

    I have one comment. In my (kickboxing) gym (in the Netherlands) we get thought to either keep the right arm up (guard) or across the opponent rather than letting it "fall" to prevent getting countered with a hook to the jaw when you use a lowkick. So for example if I throw a right lowkick and at the same time my opponent counters with a left hook, without my guard my jaw is exposed.

    Good video shane! most common mistakes with people is throwing the leg kicks without throwing any punching combo first so they don't see it coming.

    My favourite was always the jab, fake right cross turned into a low kick. Mixing that up with the basic 1-2 seemed to work. Simple, but worked.

    low kick to the upper leg
    first kick >turn out your left foot
    second kick >lift your left foot a bit before kicking
    you get a more powerful second kick

    Hey Shane, just had a quick question. I've seen low kicks where it's instructed to bring up your kicking knee past your target and then extend, and also a kick where you keep your kicking knee almost pointed down to the ground and then bringing it around primarily by pivoting with your opposite leg. Are these two different kicks entirely or are they just variations of each other? Sorry if that doesn't make sense, but thanks for the help!

    I think sometimes we should kick low kicks without a shine guard in order to make it tough, you know when your block your low kick, you can crush his leg on the shine

    a good way to train the chop kick is to set up a cone to get your leg over before kicking.. obviously get a fwe cones and cut them according to your fighter's size.

    Training a high kick will make the low one fast enough with good timing. Do not use the high one in the street unless it's a real gimme. I've seen it work but it's very rare. Even after you land the low one (heel first), put your leg down fast and stay in balance.

  • @ArthurHau

    The problem with a right low spinning kick is that you have a left leg that is used both as the lead leg and the pivot of the right low kick. Whenever I see your stance, I will immediately move to your far left side (the side of the left lead leg) which is your blind side. Then I will do a low kick to your left knee. So much for a low Muay Thai spinning low kick. LOL A left lead leg combined with a left jab is nothing cause I have already moved to your far left side, your blind side. BTW, this is the limitation of the orthodox stance, namely, a very obvious blind side. Always move to side of the lead leg and no spin kick or jab will be effective. This is simple physics.

    Nosingle kicks good rule of thumb, you are the 1st person on you tube i have seen that has said/explained why not to do this. single low kicks seem to be a common thing to lead with in mma which I've never understood other than lack of muay thai/Kickboxing striking knowledge .

    I always pratice both low and high axe type of kicks like that on my bag, it's simply the most effective kicks alongside front snap kicks to use in a real fight. Those with some swift and good boxing skills and you're pretty much set in the stand up departement.

    I used to do fighting self defense. If your in a fight or a boxing match/practice, aim for the back of the abs/back of ribcage. It has small muscles and muscles protect the body. Trust me, it will take down any opponent, big or small.

    If any of you guys are gonna try this in a fight please reconsider. If you haven't trained for it you can fuck up really badly. Just get a friend and try it on him. That might hurt you a little already. Then let him block it with a knee and see how you feel. Any muay thai fighter has done this thousands of times hardening his bone and perfecting his form. One last thing. If you do intent on useing it in a fight go for the Dutch style. Meaning that you combo a kick in after a couple punches.

    Hey shane! Can you explain me a bit more about when catching a low or body kick because when I catch a low or body kick the leg is pretty heavy then you dont have enough time to hold it and sweep it so you gotta do it quickly! And when sweeping it where do you place your leg on the inside? Outside? High or low?
    Thank you for an amazing video again shane!!!

      +Cro Mino Shane said he won't get into it here... BUT Really watch that first kick he grabs with his girlfriend. Will it be perfect like that during a fight... no. But the technique is there -- Practice practice practice what he does there with a partner and that will overcome the imperfection of an actual fight.

    In MMA fights, I see a lot of leg kicks. Are they just to score points? Or do they actually accomplish anything? Commentators point out the bruise after a lot of them have landed. But are they actually slowing down a fighter?

    Yo, Shane! I agree with you 99.9% of the time, but the teep to knee is a HUGE no no. If a sparring partner did this to me it would be a done day immediately. This is an old video, so I wonder if you feel differently now that you are and I are getting more up there in age and want to preserve our knees?
