    Hoarse voice treatment will depend on causes of hoarse voice. (If you are asking “why is my voice hoarse?” then check out my previous video, in which I am sharing more information about hoarse voice causes.) In this video, I will share tips on how to treat hoarseness when you overuse your voice or when you get sick with common cold or flu (resulting in vocal fold swelling). This video talks about not only voice remedies for singers but also for other voice users (aren’t we all voice users?).
    I will go over three simple steps to treat your voice properly so that you get rid of hoarseness as fast as you can. There are no shortcuts or magic potions. I will also share some hoarse voice treatment home remedy that are scientifically proven. Some hoarse voice home remedies are based on myths so don’t get fooled. If you have a hoarse voice singing or talking can be challenging but there are very simple things you can do to get your voice back.
    So, stop asking how to get rid of hoarseness and watch this video about a hoarse singing voice remedy (and speaking voice remedy).

    Thank you for making this video. About five years ago, I was assaulted; strangled to the point of unconsciousness. And every since when I yell, I loose my voice either partly or entirely for a day or two. And then am left horse or scratchy sounding for as long as two weeks. I find it hard to make specific sounds. ie when I try to meow like a kitten no sound, nothing at all. other times I can meow but can't cry like a puppy. Not that I try to meow or make puppy sounds but I don't know how else to describe the tones. I had lost my voice (again from yelling) prior to my injury on several occasiions. And was able to easily clear it up by drizzing honey down my throat going as long as I could without swallowing. Couple times of this today and I'd be better tomorrow. Now... It's helps but doesn't get the job done. I've tried various natural remedies and even resorted to trying modern drugs - the red spray in the bottle. Everything helps some, but I felt as though I needed to go deeper, so I hit the search button on youtube "how to heal horse voice" and found this video. Already, I've learned a few things that I can do to help get back and hopefully maintain a healthy voice. I hope no one else has the same problems as I do, but if you do please reply and let me know what works for you. And I'll post what works for me in reply to this post. Maybe if enough of us post, Ms Katarina can figure out how to fix us!!
    FOOTNOTE: It would have been easier for Ms Katarina to make this video in her native language, but she made it in English and did an excellent job, not without effort, but it is seeing her effort to speak clearly and to be understood in my native tongue makes me even more thankful for this video and really appreciate Ms. Katarina's efforts - anyone one puts this much effort in to a video has something important to say!! Everyone hit the subscribe button and let go beinge watch her channel while taking her advice and resting our voices.

I was wondering if you had a voice assessment by a laryngologist. That may the very first step in learning how your voice works, what it looks like and possibly how to help you. It is very difficult to suggest tips if we don't know the details about your voice. I wish you all the best on your healing journey.

Now, two months later I feel I cannot reach the notes I usually can. When I sing for a short time, even if just warming up my neck and through feel dry and tired. :(

      @healthyvoicetips  4 года назад +2

      Hi Whispering Jim, I am really sorry to hear that you have been worried about your voice. My recommendation is to see a voice specialist, one that can do laryngeal videostroboscopy. It is an examination that will show you and the doctor what exactly is going on with your vocal folds. This is recommended to anyone who has vocal issues lasting more than two weeks. So you definitely fall into this category. If you know what exactly is happening, you can deal with the problem and lessen your worries. If you have any other questions, let me know.

I'm on a worship team, and what I used to sing I cant anymore. I no longer can find my range. 😢 Ive seen an ENT, who recommended shots or speech therapy. I chose therapy. I am very sorry to hear that you are dealing with voice issues. Yes, intubation can really affect the function of the vocal folds. If you are not progressing in your healing, I suggest that you visit the ENT again a inquire about other options. I am not sure what your vocal folds look like or how they function but that would be good to know when deciding about the next steps. I wish you all the best.

    I had a very smooth voice. But now, it hurts whenever I talk and it's all breathy and weak. I feel like somthing is clicking in my throat. I'm going to talk to my doctor, because it didn't go away for almost two months.
    Singing has always played a huge role in my life. I don't remember a day, when I didn't sing. I was in a school choir and I had a great techique. I had no clue, that somday It'll be taken away from me.
    I wanted to improve, so I got myself a teacher. At first it was nice. But after a couple weeks, I started to feel my voice slowly getting weaker. It took more and more effort to sing, how she wanted me to. I feel like I was always too quiet for her.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 года назад +6

      You are very welcome. Losing you voice after singing or being very raspy is a warning sign that you are constricting too much when singing. You can be breathy but still keep your voice healthy. Try to keep your throat open (false vocal folds open) by keeping a "silent laugh" when singing.

      Having a hoarse voice is no fun. I have seen so many people who are really frustrated. But the only way to help is to really see what is going on with your vocal folds. Have you visited a voice specialist who can actually see your vocal folds while producing sounds? Allergies are often a cause of hoarse voice, therefore, speaking to an allergologist is also important. I know that it may be difficult to manage allergies and it may take some time. Talk to your allergologist and tell him about your hoarseness. It is possible that some of your meds can be contributing to your hoarse voice. Good luck.

    Im not having allergies, but I haven't sung in a month and a half, ive sung times here and there, but it's always kind abeen that way, and my voice has always improved regardless, but today when I was singing with my instrument, my voice suddenly felt like there was mucus in the back of my throat, but I've cleared my throat, it didn't work, my voice was still hoarse, and lower, could this be due to dehydration?

    • @healthyvoicetips

      I really don't know. It could be dehydration. In that case, hydrate well and see if the symptoms go away. However, dehydration does not cause lasting changes. If you have voice problems for more than two weeks, I would recommend visiting a specialist to see what is going on with your voice.

    I sip lemon water. I take the two cough meds in Mucinex---guaifenisin (sp?) and dextromethorphan, and also Benedryl. I breathe my Vicks vaporub scent, and most other drinks I DON'T do. I don't think this is nodes, but I just have a fit with what seems to be phlegm coating my vocal cords or occluding my bronchus. I try warm ups, but sometimes that takes all I've got... And I 'lean' on the microphone. But I have special music tomorrow and the song has a number of held notes---a couple of measures. Honey maybe, but I am diabetic, still... • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  5 лет назад

      Hi Alayah! I am sorry to hear that you are sick. The first step in dealing with a hoarse voice is to deal with the primary infection - whatever you may have. Lots of fluids, sleep or rest, and maybe a hot shower so that you can inhale warm steam (if you don't have a personal steamer). I don't think you can really prevent sneezing and it may be very difficult to stop coughing too right now. Try to sip warm tea throughout the day to help with swallowing the extra mucus that is produced in your throat and nose right now. Good nasal hygiene can also help. Honey in tea apparently can help to decrease coughing too. Try and see if it helps. And if you need medication, then talk to your doctor. I hope that your infection will go away in a few days! Hoarseness should go away too once your infection is resolved. Good luck.

      Vocal fry is the most relaxed way of sound production possible. However, many people do it incorrectly and add constriction to the sound. If you do vocal fry in a healthy way, your voice cannot hurt or sound hoarse or sharp. I suggest that you stop doing it or consult someone who knows how to do it in a healthy way.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 года назад

      I cannot tell for sure, but you may be using your voice in a way that causes inflammation of the vocal folds. When vocal folds become slightly inflamed, they become thicker and therefore high register is most affected. Maybe you use your voice too much, or you use too much muscle effort, or you clear your throat, or you are exposed to environmental irritants ... There are many reasons why this is happening. So, I would recommend visiting a voice specialist and have your voice properly assessed, including a very detailed voice history to find the cause of your problem. Once you know the cause, you can either eliminate it or treat it. I wish you all the best.

      Hi @Cameron Garbett, if it is an infection, it has to run its course. Just follow the recommendations of your doctors. Use the sinus spray. Hydrate well with water or tea (you can add lemon, honey, ginger or whatever you can tolerate and like). If you can steam your voice that would be a bonus. Don't forget to sleep enough because your body needs rest to fight the infection. I wish you a speedy recovery.

    P.S. Greetings from the Philippines. I've already subscribed. :)

    • @healthyvoicetips

      Salt water will not help with hoarseness because the solution is not touching your vocal cords. Salt water is a natural anti-inflammatory solution so it may reduce throat swelling. But I would say that you should not be hoarse after a performance. Maybe the solution is to change your technique or build stamina to prevent hoarseness when performing.

    I have a unique scenario I used to be able to sing opera and now I can’t sing anything but alto and I miss my soprano singing falsetto I quit smoking cigarettes and meth in March and I always have had a fight your way through life kinda family so I always have yelled tell the point of not even being able to make a noise and I continued to yell and I just hate feeling trapped inside myself to not be able to sing anymore I don’t know if I just go to a regular doctor or what but I’ve come so far through so much turmoil and I hope I haven’t ruined my voice for good idk I just wanted your professional opinion cause nobody likes to say they use to use any kind of substance but I want to know if it’s even possible to achieve my old voice now idk if I stated everything correctly and I’m embarrassed to even say all this but I hope you get a chance to read and respond to me when you get the chance I’m sorry if I bugged you I’m going through so much after picking the pieces of myself back up and I feel like I’m losing the soul purpose I was born to be and pursue 😢

      You are not bothering me. I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with all kinds of issues but I am happy to hear that you are finding solutions. With your voice, I recommend seeing a laryngologist for a voice assessment to know what solutions would be best for you. I wish you all the best. Don't give up!

      Just make sure that you are using your voice in a healthy way even in your lower range. By the way, I like low voices!

      Hi James, that depends on the cause of hoarseness. If the cause is acid reflux, then suggestions like not eating for 3 hours before going to bed, elevating the head of the bed (not just your head), eliminating foods that may trigger more acidity, drinking more water etc. would be appropriate. However, if you don't have acid reflux problems, then these suggestions will not help you. I suggest that you see a specialist who can actually assess you as a whole person and find the cause of your hoarseness.

      I suppose you were seen by an ENT as you know your diagnosis. What did the doctor suggest? Usually, the ENTs refer you to a voice therapist to deal with the vocal issues.
