Guys, it is so enjoyable watching some of your older reactions especially when we are missing you - (thank goodness we have them!). This is one of my favorite songs by Ten Years After. Is this not the one of the most honest lyrics you ever heard? We, as citizens, have no direct way to change the world, but we can do a little bit, each day, in our personal interactions. You are totally right about the power of music to bring people together - You guys do it everyday in your reactions.
I don’t remember if I told you this before, you are helping me through a very difficult period. I lost my wife in July and reactors, like you, are really make me feel a connected with other music lovers. You always get the music. Keep on rocking and stay safe.

This song came out in 1971 just as I was getting out of serving in the U.S. Army overseas. It has a lot of meaning to me in many ways. The youth of my generation were sent off to fight wars that no one understood. We must not sacrifice our young men and women. They are the FUTURE.

When I heard this song fresh off the press, it immediately became my favorite song, and it went through my head all day long. I fantasized about the amazing guitar that must have been involved in the creation of this timeless, and very timely, classic. People really did give a shit about things back then. But you know what? You give a shit, and you are today, and I have seen many other good people sharing good music, who are not your competitors. They are your tribe. Many of the peace and love people of yesteryear, are still very much peace and love, and several generations of people are discovering these fruits of love, and loving them too. May peace prevail. Weave a critical mass. We've a critical mass. Peace. db

Legendary song. The great Alvin Lee. Ten Years After. Named for being 10 years after the birth of rock 'n roll. Seminal rock in the '50s and blasting out of Lee's guitar in the '60s as Ten Years After. RIP Alvin Lee

  • @robertsumners931

I hear this song and I’m transported back to my youth in the sixties, although this paticular song came out in 1972/73 i think. As well known as this song is now it only made it to #40 in the Billboard 100 in 1971. It was written and sung by guitarist Alvin Lee. It’s been in many movies and tv shows. When I think of Ten Years After I think of Woodstock and them playing “I’m Going Home” and Alvin Lee playing his guitar like it’s on fire. The group was formed in 1966. They took their name because it was 10 years after what they considered the birth of rock and roll. The band didn’t play this song live while Albert Lee was a member, as he felt trying to re-create it on stage would be “too restricting.” So nice to hear this ''awesome song'' again. Another anthem for all times. Thanks for the posting guys. How did i know you were going to love this song.?? lol

Alvin Lee always was a “lightning quick” guitarist 🎸

  • @rhmayer1
    @rhmayer1 2 года назад +7

RIP Alvin Lee. One of the true greats. Famous for his lightening speed, but under-recognized for his deeply soulful playing. Listen again to his playing on this near-perfectly constructed song. His electric work responds to and amplifies the words. His guitar screams, cries, pleads, searches and yes, is angry at times - makes me cry a little every time. When he wrote it there was surely a desperation and loneliness and futility that we all feel, yet after he wrote it - his gift to us - has helped change the world. My prescription: find someone you disagree with and ask to hug him/her.

I love yall's enthusiasm for the music I grew up with, and also for acknowledging the social upheaval that was occurring in the late '60s and '70s. If you aren't familiar with what happened at Kent State University when 4 students protesting the war in Vietnam, were killed by the Ohio National Guard, read about it and listen to Niel Young's song Ohio, that he wrote in response. This event, to me, illustrates some of what was happening at the time. Love you guys.

True classic. Guitar work is impeccable. And yes, classic progressive rock brought a relevancy to popular music that has not been seen before or since. At least not on such a large scale. Not just political but introspective and philosophical as well. Poetic. Not to mention the brilliant musicianship that often came with by the artists themselves. Proud to have been part of a generation that recognized and helped propel such timeless and enduring artistry to such heights.

Great reaction, guys, to such a beautiful song which is so relevant to the world today. Ten Years After had so many fab songs, with brilliant guitar solos from Alvin Lee. Try As The Sun Still Burns Away - it's one of my favourites with a really good bass line. Incidentally, have you heard of Rory Gallagher? Irish guy who was a fantastic blues/rock singer and guitarist from the 70s and 80s. A couple of examples of his songs are Bad Penny and Tattoo'd Lady. Great guitar solos. May I also suggest Shin Kicker, Rory Gallagher live at Montreux 1979. You won't regret it!!

Brahs' Every single song coming out in the early 70's was a song of rebellion. We were trying to get out of Vietnam and it was a mess.
Saw Alvin Lee and 10 Years after in the early 70's in Tucson Az. Small Venue, close to the front, felt like I was a part of the concert.
Plenty of "Whiffs " and London fog in the air.
My reactions are the same as they were 50 years ago.

I'm pleased you like the song. I'm from those days. The meaning behind "I'd love to change the world but I don't know what to do, so I'll leave it up to you," is that in those days everywhere was filled with protesting, and what Alvin Lee is saying is, "Count me out. I don't want to spend my time and my life doing that. Sure, I'd love to change the world too, but I don't know how to fix things anyway. I'll leave it up to you."

The people that create wars are the same people that control the music. The 80s-90s was the last time when educated and talented people mass-produced songs that actually made the world a better place. The Powers that Be that Shouldn't Be know that music can assist in making the world a better place and that's what these people don't want.

ALVIN, was, really, underestimated, probably, because, he played in an are, where you got so great guitar heroes and bands, but, he's in the top 20 of all time, easily! A good great monster,, playing incredible guitar, harmonica, singing, and giving everything he got into in his soul, each time he was playing! SERIOUSLY, ASK TO ANY MUSICIAN ON EARTH, GUITARISTS, OR ANY OTHER INSTRUMENTS, SINGERS, ANYBODY, PROFESSIONALS OR NOT, TO TRY TO DO WHAT HE DID, AT WOODSTOCK, IN THE SONG "I'M GOING HOME", AND THE WHOLE T'EN YEARS AFTER BAND, OF COURSE, IT'S, JUST, IMPOSSIBLE, TO BE SO CONNECTED, TO GIVE SO MUCH INTENSITY, IT'S MADNESS! IF YOU'RE A GUITARIST, LIKE ME, JUST TRY TO DO IT AND SING AT THE SAME TIME! RIDICULOUS, SO IT'S INCREDIBLE! Thanks guy, to react to so much good music! PS: SO, PATRICK, IS ON THE LEFT TIME, AND GEORGE ON THE RIGHT, AM I RIGHT? 😂PEACE FROM FRANCE COOL GUYS! 😎✌️👍🎸🇫🇷
