- Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy search for Sophia throughout Miami. They learn from a cab driver that Sophia asked to be dropped off at Shady Pines, the retirement home that she had despised. Upon arriving there, the ladies are surprised to see how nice Shady Pines has become after it was rebuilt following the fire.

This ending was actually sadder than the last episode of Golden Girls, as Dorothy saw how the girls, including her own mother, had now moved on with their lives since Dorothy left them 😢
I agree. It seemed more tragic in a way, also with the added context of knowing they’d never meet again on set like this.

To me the golden girls will never get old the last episode made me shed tears coz it was so emotional the girls knew Rose will lead them until 31/12/2021 thanks girls for making us laugh since 1985 may your souls rest in paradise.

You know people say 21:00 is sad. But if you think about it it's not. Everyone used to come to Dorothy for help now she knows they can all take care of themselves and all 4 are happy. :)

I agree. Dorothy looked sad and it looked as if she was truly saying goodbye now, realizing she chose a new life. But how happy Dorothy can be that Ma is happy and everyone is doing what they were meant to do

This Golden Girls spin-off just doesn't work. It is illogical that these happily retired women would buy a hotel & literally run it themselves.
Making it a further uphill battle, it was slotted into Friday night lineup and faced off on ABC's new show, Family Matters to which viewers were much more entertained watching Steve Urkel.

I always wondered how they got Bea Arthur to agree to visit...Ive read she usually was against reunion shows. This show was a great idea but could have been done better.
This show had me laughing. Any show that can do that gets my vote. I cracked up from beginning to end. I loved the entire season.
She was probably trying to do the girls a favour because their ratings sucked
@Gadouts The only real reason the ratings may have went up again was because she returned. I'm glad they made this a two part episode. They should've had her come back from this point on, and we would've seen a good extension of the Golden Girls. The writers really could've done better in this show.

Rose did seem to become stronger than she was on The Golden Girls, which is one of the reasons that made this show interesting wishing that it never got canceled. I believe if The Golden Palace aired at a later time like a year later after The Golden Girls ended, the show would have survived better than it did.
Shame on Jack Black for putting Sophia in a home like that.

So what is Dorothy doing in Atlanta, anyway? Is she still substitute teaching? Is she trying to fit in among all of the people Blanche grew up with? That could be a show in and of itself.

I think they were better off without Dorothy. She kept telling them what to think and what to do and she was always virtue signaliing. Dorothy always thought she was a cut above. The girls were held back by her and were much kinder to eachother. Glad Rose got a hit in at the end. Dorothy deserved it.

Dorothy really wanted her mom to move back home with her and new man/hubby but Sophia decided to stay and work at the hotel Instead leaving Dorothy all alone and sad
She has a marriage to the wonderful Lucas. Dorothy only acted the way she did because she felt Sophia was being worked too hard when she could rest in comfort with Dorothy and Lucas.

What happened to the golden palace after the series finale
We know Sophia went to Shady Pines. In the Golden Girls finale, Rose was talking about moving in with her daughter, so my guess is she did that. With Blanche, you can have a lot of fun guessing that one.
