His knowledge and use of language, his comedic timing is brilliant. The nuance of English humour delivered with great skill. And he comes across as a lovely bloke.
@timothypowell8624 That's true. I live in France since 28 years and being Dutch, really did all I could to learn the language. I'm really very good at it; but sometimes I have jokes in my head I can't translate in French. Makes me regret people don't realise how funny I am !!! 😊
i moved to germany half my life ago, and the more familiar you become with germans and german jokes around the country, the more you realize how true this really is lol
Probably because his English teacher was obsessed with them. You wouldn't hear a German teacher teaching German idioms to native German speakers (same with British I suppose), you just pick them up along the way. But some foreign language teachers really love idioms and phrases.
@@just-tess he probably learned english on the go, in some bar and found out he sounds very funny - in several ways. The stories/adventures, the accent, the wording. woo!

Henning since "Henning Wehn know's best" is British/German treasure. His use of English idiom is sublime...and there is always this cold German distance that just makes us Brits want to make him ours....it is very clever comedy. I love Henning....he makes my eyes flood with tears of laughter. Such a funny man.
@@tunnfisk I just figured he saw a little boy holding an onion in the air. at 20:12 he just loses it, you can see it in the flick of his finger and the shrug of his shoulders. Like he's lost for words. Talking about his father went well, but that mental image of a boy proudly presenting the onion, all taking a bite just broke him. Easter bunny with eggs itself is already wild... Perhaps it was something with his father, there's no real way of knowing, but the other stuff is pretty bonkers as well. German here, i just found out about Henning Wehns carrer in the UK last week. This guy makes me really lough hard. I spend a lot of effiort reducing my german accent, i think i will give up on it.
He's long been a comedy legend in the UK. Just by being instantly, continually humorous. Wehn knows the detailed intricacies and subtleties our language. But deliberately retains and uses a strong German accent for added entertainment value. Genius. 👍
I love how everything Henning says is in the mid '90's........Bob Mortimer's saying is always " as I've said before, it was a long time ago "..........Love WILTY.....David and Lee are exceptional also.....
The "Schöne-Wochenend-Ticket" (Nice-Weekend-Ticket) was very nice. You could get 5 people on one ticket and use every regional train in Germany for the weekend. It was dirt cheap.

him being all magical about onions, being able to bite into them because he still has good teeth - with tears in his eyes. Whatever his parents did to him, it all turned out so wonderful. Whenever I pass onions I still hear *Da ist die Zwiebel*
I agree. German comedians are not my up of tea, most of them are about as funny as James Corden, in my opinion. We have a couple decent ones not originally from Germany, but I much prefer British comedy, and Henning really hits those British comedy vibes with his own flavour added.
There are couple of good German comedians. Helge Schneider or young Otto Waalkes for example. But tbh British comedy is also not what it used to be. Still better than 90% of German comedy though. I think Henning only really works as "the German" in Britain.
I don't often need to use a mirror either. The upstairs bathroom has a couple, but downstairs we have none, so if I really needed to look at myself for some reason I can, but yeah, I get it. Looking at yourself is not really a necessity in life.
His knowledge and use of language, his comedic timing is brilliant. The nuance of English humour delivered with great skill. And he comes across as a lovely bloke.
he's lived there for decades, so he should know a bit of the language.
He's like a German Bob Mortimer.
😀
My god you’re right!
Except David usually gets it right.
It would be awesome to have both of them on.
Some say Henning can split a tin of sauerkraut in two with his bare hands.
As a non native speaker, his use of English idioms is outstanding

To be fair though, hes been living in the UK for about half his life (20+ years).
Maybe he's just British and the accent is his joke
He intentionally studied them as it's an easy laugh when a foreigner uses a native idiom.

I love Henning's sense of humor about himself. It's one of the most charming and endearing aspects of him. He's adorable.
