Interestingly, there's the same word in German: Macker. Pronounced exactly alike. And means quite the same, although with a more negative connotation.
I love when he says "I can't pronounce that" and Susie goes "that's just all the letters in the selection" just perfect

They missed possibly his greatest Cats-does-Countdown line ever - when asked how he felt about then (then-recent) Brexit referendum result, he said "Well I've been spending a lot of time in the attic. Might even get a book out of it"

Henning's accent is so strange, he's clearly been in the UK for a while as he's picked up phrases you wouldn't expect out of a German. Most obvious would be his use of "innit"
I like that he seems to pronounce every single letter lol.
My favorite was him saying "me papers".
He's lived in the UK for 15+ years I think.

It’s a strange blend of German and cockney accents that is so unique that the human brain will explode if you think hard enough about it
He's a great guy - he can really laugh at himself. I can't remember ever being disappointed by him.

The Germans (or Prussians) have won a number of wars just lost two World Wars.
Two wars and a "police action". Franco-german war (anything before that doesn't count since it wasn't Germany fighting them, since Germany didn't technically exist), Boxer Rebellion and Kosovo. Also a few colonial wars we rather not talk about.
And another ongoing "definetely not a war, wink wink" in Afghanistan.

We do not have that fine witty dark humor here (maybe very few exceptions like Mathias Tretter but these people never get big) and it has gone worst the last years. I am so glad modern internet structures makes it possible to enjoy so much content beyond borders :)

@@felixperrin3795 I think partly that, and partly the audience recognising that while writing poetry that isn't shit is hard, writing poetry that is pretty shit in a second language is also pretty hard. The panel seemed to want to move on to funnier things - so were dismissive - but to me at least after the first poem turned out to be so bad, the fact that Henning interrupted with another shitty poem became the punchline. The gag came full circle when he admitted he hadn't written more but since they 'went down so well' he felt the need to interrupt again. Not the most hilarious bit of all time, but certainly funny in it's own right

My Granddad (I'm German) told me that when he was in a POW camp the Austrians tried to get treated better by repeating that they were Austrians, as in "not German!" Which made my Granddad, who wasn't a Nazi, but was forced to fight towards the end of the war, and the other German prisoners really angry and shout out: "Well, Hitler was yours, wasn't he?! And you wanted to get 'Heim ins Reich' [Home to the Reich, i.e. annexed]"!
When Henning put up the big cat with a fez on a chair as his mascot the line from sean was gold, "Finally some German humour".
That 2015 tour/ 2016 Brexit joke was fantastic

I actually love how Henning has a very British sense of humour. He's very interesting and funny
You'd probably be surprised then how many Germans, especially in the North, share that type of humour. Not so much in the South but the regions from the North Sea and Baltic Sea down to (but only partially including) Saxony, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate usually have a dry, dark, and often deadpan humour with a lot of irony and sarcasm. In the South people have a stronger tendency to the burlesque.
@@BlackAdder665 Yes. I was gobsmacked how many different accents I Germany and Europe. But then after the war. What part was Britain in control of ?. And then one part Americans and one part Russians. And most bred and lived in Germany the rest of there lives. All the best.

The funniest and most endearing thing about Henning is that he always participates -- and often initiates -- such excellent jokes about all the German stereotypes and his own German-ess. The pre-written ones with Jimmy are great, but even better are his own improv comebacks. I have a German friend who finds Henning "not at all funny". Says it all, really!
