Thanks for the entertaining and informative vids Andrea and Zack. I had a 2005 Hyundai SF (3.5L) for 10 years and the only problem aside from brakes, tires, etc. was that my rotors warped after only around 40k miles and I only had 1 recall (the very last year I had the car) for a bolt on each tie rod end that was rusting. I went to the dealer and they resolved that in about 45 minutes. In 2015 I traded it in (with only 65K miles on it) for a 2016 SF Sport which I still own (9 years old). I've had 5 recalls on it but it has never given me any issues at all. I'd like to also mention that I do not even burn / lose a drop of oil between oil changes which I get about every 4,500 miles. I love to drive around town in manual mode (car seems to have much more power) and when I get on open highway I just put the gear selector in "drive". I'm a 75 year old who still likes to have fun driving. I've never had to add oil to either car between oil changes and I've enjoyed both Hyundai's I've owned and intend to get a Tucson or Sportage next spring.

My father-in-law is constantly topping up his 2017 Sante Fe with oil and his dealership shafted him by telling him the oil consumption monitoring program is not available. It is- I just enrolled with my Sorento. I convinced him to trade it in for a Buick envision avenir (thanks to Zack and Andrea). Finally, my next door neighbour Kia optima has engine knock issues. I work as a technical expert for car insurance companies and leasing companies. I see damaged engined on a weekly basis, but not because of oil changes that are 2.000 miles overdue, but because of 30.000 kilometer oil change intervals. A lot of modern engines are damaged before the first regular oil change.
But are they really? Yeah, you could go on YT and see dozens of oil-guy videos with alarmist tests on the amount of metallicity in the first oil change... but does that actually mean anything to the real-world longevity of the engine? It's not like cars are prematurely dying because they followed the factory schedule instead of doing a short first oil change interval.
@@stuntmonkey00 I think I know who you mean by 'alarmists', they often test the oil after the break in period. So you can expect a lot of metal contents in your oil. I am referring to factory prescribed oil change intervals, together with low viscosity oil. Last week I had to inspect a three year old Volvo V60 with 180.000 km's. The car only had 5 oil changes over this period ( not even a break-in oil change) and was just out of warranty. All of this is according to the manufacturers specifications. It now needs a 15.000 euro engine replacement because all rod and main bearings are gone.
Awesome! Yes, the Buick Enclave review should drop in a few weeks or so. Still filming it this week but enjoy Questions, Coffee and Cars. Our Honda Odyssey review drops tomorrow, how you enjoy it.
On oil: ‘98 V70 5 cyl bought new (now 230K), ‘95 Dakota V6 bought in ‘97 (now 285K)synthetic once a year myself, neither engine ever apart, no appreciable oil consumption.
Thank you for your view on Hyundai/Kia. I was thinking about giving them a look, but have reliability reservations. I did test drive a Genesis SUV and was impressed.
@@kennethawesome I agree, Genesis dealerships are not readily accessible. Fortunately, I live in a large city and there is a new Genesis dealership that just opened close to me. I have not decided on a Genesis, but want to keep all options open. I also like Lexus so I still have lots to research before I buy.
I'm always sad when the show ends because I really enjoying listening to you two. I haven't owned a car for 25 years now (I use public transit - yes, the darn buses!) but I do rent a vehicle from time to time. I always enjoy the vehicles I get (low expectations) however, I had to take a Mitsubishi RVR a few months ago due to a lack of vehicles. What a dog. Bow wow! Gee, thanks Ent*rpr*se! 😛
Hyundai and Kia have been converging in reliability to Toyota and Honda, this is just a fact. As quality gets closer to equal, the features and style and value is going to take priority.
Resales values show reliability and what consumers think. Until these converge (if ever) Kia/Hyandai reliability still behind Toyota and Honda. Perhaps they will merge but that's an assumption yet to be proved.
That’s why I sold my Kia. The long term value was horrible. I loved my Sportage but from 2022 to 2024… in 2 years, I lost $14,000 value on it. I had the 2023 Sportage prestige. I just think that if I ever get another Kia, I won’t buy the top of the line.
When I was working for honda, I wanted an HR-V because I thought they were nice, practical & cheap...I decided against it because my insurance person told me it was too slow & should get a civic 🤣
My beef with Hyundai/Kia is their parts cost. I had a 2015 Sedona that for some reason needed an engine computer module replacement at 6 years old; nowhere could do it but the dealership, and parts/labour was $3000 CDN. It was outrageous, it would have been half the price at GM and that's bad enough. I really liked the vehicle, it was easy to work on too, but I sold it quick, and I'd be hesitant to buy another Kia that was out of warranty.
I would like to mention something about the Kia/Hyundai warranty in Canada that everyone seems to be overlooking. It’s only 5 years in Canada and that doesn’t cover the electronics. The electronics is only covered for 3 years.
I've had three Hyundai's. A 2011 Sonata Limited I put 140,000 miles on. Traded it for a 2019 Elantra Sport, now with 38,000 miles. Two months ago, my wife traded her 2017 CR-V for a 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid AWD. All three have been fantastic vehicles. At 63, I've become a Hyundai fanboy.
Got two Hyundai Elantras (2013), a Mazda 3sport (2015 ) and a 2009 Civic sport. The difference is in the handling and interior quality materials used n the Japanese brands over the Hyundais. Hyundais definitely have worn prematurely and their light bulbs wear out prematurely also. Overall they’ve been dependable mechanically.
Andrea is right about Hyundai’s history. I remember back in the late 80’s through most of the 90’s, Hyundai’s were the butt of all jokes related to automobiles. I remember test driving a ‘98 Hyundai Excel. It felt like it was held together with duct tape and glue and the powertrain was anemic. Having said that, I know Hyundai has improved 1000% but personally, they do nothing for me. They’re great vehicles but not something I’m interested in driving.
If I go 2000k over on an oil change I’m still within the manufacturer recommended time of 8000k 😅 I change mine every 5000k (3000 miles). Yea it’s overkill but I’ve always done it and never had an engine failure. Oil is cheap insurance.
Any data on the trade - in resale values on Hyundai / Kia... say 5 years maybe vs the Japanese and German manufactures ? $$$$$ ...might be part of the bigger picture
It's an oil change. Relax. over the past 40 years I've never done them more than twice per year, never gone to the same place twice, and never had engine problems. Most cars I've had over 200,000 km.
@3:00 The difference in warranty between Canada and the US? Has it got anything to do with our winters? Driver assist: has driving skills gotten so bad that we need driver's assist?
Doubt it. The U.S. has just as nasty winter weather as Canada in some states, and severe climates we don’t have. My guess is it’s an attempt to gain more market share, since the U.S. market is huge compared to Canada.
Been driving my 2023 Genesis GV70 for the last 7 months. 0 issues and I look forward every day to drive it. I couldn’t recommend that car enough. Give the brand a chance and you will not be disappointed.
See if it changes. The Murano is finally get a redesign including a new engine. Gone will be the 3.5 V6 with CVT, and in will be a turbo-4 cyl with less HP, although the torque will be up. Well the new 4-cyl will get literally the same fuel economy mileage as the old V6. A bit disappointing to see this. Wonder if the Pathfinder will see something similar ?
@@magnoliap5824 hopefully Pathfinder can still lug something and will get better fuel economy. Seeing the Murano in a V6 get the same fuel economy numbers as its incoming 4-cyl turbo..is a bit disheartening
I was once a Hyundai/Kia hater. Until i observed what the brand was doing and started my own research. I was amazed at what i could get for the money! I bought a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited when it was new. 7 years later, there were no mechanical issues and still under warranty. And it's the most reliable car I ever owned. I still get compliments on my car. Some people think it's an Audi or BMW the way it looks. I call it the "Korean Jetta." And it makes sense because Hyundai/Kia/Genesis has German designers and engineers. My car is well equipped for being 7 years old. I have memory seating, navigation, power sunroof, tilt side mirrors, smart cruise control, heated front and rear seats, and was the 1st compact mainstream car to offer Apple Carplay/Android Auto at the time. This is why I chose it over Civic and Corolla. The features I have now are still not offered on newer models of the Civic and Corolla. Which says a lot. Now I'm ready for an upgrade. The new 2025 Kia K4 GT-Line turbo is at the top of my list! I can't wait for it to hit dealer lots!
Im thinking in 10 years or so we will start to see more affordable cars again. I do not forsee this upscaling continuing forever. Like a camry now is nicer than a Lexus of 10 years ago. People will eventually not be able to afford it and then we will start to see a car where they focus on cheap reliable cars like an old Toyota corolla from 2005
I use to have 2010 Hyundai Tucson for 14 years over 150 thousand km and I traded for 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid both I had no problem. Cheers! Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️
I bought a 2007 Hyundai Entourage new and traded it in 2015 with 300,000 miles. No issues, other than had to replace the headlights a few times and regular maintenance. My next car was a 2015 Subaru Forester, which also gave me no problems until the transmission went at 260,000 miles. On my 2nd Forester now and love it other than I wish it had more horsepower.
I drove a Hyundai Sonata a few months ago after exclusively owning and driving Audis. I felt stupid for spending so much on Audis over all these years! It is true when they say that with Hyundai you get value for money. The true definition of Audi really is overpriced junk.
The problem with Hyundai and Kia specifically here in Canada. Is Brand image. I’m sure they have great products and interior is great, But! I’m sorry I will not buy one because you’re look down on for having a Kia not so much Hyundai. These brands are basically value brands.
"quality is not important to us" - well duh, because dealerships will treat you like celebrities. In case of us - regular people, who are struggling to get buy in today's economy - reliability is #1 concern. Quite sad to see that more and more of your videos you only care about gizmos "latest technology" and so on, mostly advising on buying cars 60+ grands in price. I'm feeling more and more disconnection due to this tbh, which is sad because I like your format in general.
I'm a regular consumer and quality scores are not my #1 determining factor when looking for a car. Hence, I'm not interested in any Toyota product. So not everyone buys based on quality being #1.
Kia/Hyundai should improve increase their warranty in Canada 100k miles is 160k km and there should be 10 Years warranty of 160k in Canada Just like USA 🇺🇸
Hyundai and Kia are killing it recently. I am a big fan. I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with almost 100,000 miles on it, and it’s been an amazing car. Still gets 35 MPG on the freeway, and runs super smooth. I have only changed oil and had to finally replace the brakes and rotors after 90k miles. We just bought a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited for my wife, and it’s super luxury!

Hyundai and Kia are entry level cars for those who want a “luxury” car but cannot afford one. Both of those car mfrs have a long list of poor reliability.

He does operate like it’s 2005 but compare that to most every other auto journalists who just talk about those things from their desk or…from the seat of a car. No offense to Zack and Andrea of course. Love them but I think it’s good to get a balance on all things automotive, even if it’s old school like Scotty.
Great show as always, still partying in Texas over Election results as the Socialist got kicked down the street! Hopefully Canada will follow as well! Change your oil at 3000 mikes on first change to get the trash out during break in period!
What is it with US/ Canada where vehicles need oil changes every 5000km (that's 3000 miles) in UK many of the same models have 10,000, 12,000 or even 15,000 mile oil change intervals. Why are we indoctrinated with this 5000km figure?? Sure years ago when oils were not the quality they are now it may have been necessary, but now, I don't think so.

in traffic, where I live, they drive better than most.
Totally disagree that Honda Toyota builds are better. The quality and finish of HKG is better. That's the attraction...
I work as a technical expert for car insurance companies and leasing companies. I see damaged engined on a weekly basis, but not because of oil changes that are 2.000 miles overdue, but because of 30.000 kilometer oil change intervals. A lot of modern engines are damaged before the first regular oil change.
Wow, that's terrible, who would wait that long?! Thanks for feedback.
@@Carnold_YT Ah. I see. Yeah, 30,000 is way long for an interval.

The hybrid crosstrek in 2026/2027 is going to mop the floor with the subcompact class
I’ve had my 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid for just over a year, and no problems. I love it!
The Genesis dealer network is not a lot
Most likely, a Hyundai dealership will end up servicing your Genesis though 😂
@@kennethawesome I agree, Genesis dealerships are not readily accessible. Fortunately, I live in a large city and there is a new Genesis dealership that just opened close to me. I have not decided on a Genesis, but want to keep all options open. I also like Lexus so I still have lots to research before I buy.
@@theshield44- Keep it for 15+ years like I have done with our Hondas and Toyotas, then tell us what your experience is.
Why the heck isn’t that warranty available in Canada 🇨🇦 ??
When I was working for honda, I wanted an HR-V because I thought they were nice, practical & cheap...I decided against it because my insurance person told me it was too slow & should get a civic 🤣
Oil changes
Hyundai likes putting Quaker state
If we use liquid Molly or Royal purple is that better?
My beef with Hyundai/Kia is their parts cost. I had a 2015 Sedona that for some reason needed an engine computer module replacement at 6 years old; nowhere could do it but the dealership, and parts/labour was $3000 CDN. It was outrageous, it would have been half the price at GM and that's bad enough. I really liked the vehicle, it was easy to work on too, but I sold it quick, and I'd be hesitant to buy another Kia that was out of warranty.
ALL car companies have issues. Be wary of those that don’t issue recalls for them.
I would like to mention something about the Kia/Hyundai warranty in Canada that everyone seems to be overlooking. It’s only 5 years in Canada and that doesn’t cover the electronics. The electronics is only covered for 3 years.
Isn't the Lexus GX the one with an engine recall because the engines are failing?
I've had three Hyundai's. A 2011 Sonata Limited I put 140,000 miles on. Traded it for a 2019 Elantra Sport, now with 38,000 miles. Two months ago, my wife traded her 2017 CR-V for a 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid AWD. All three have been fantastic vehicles. At 63, I've become a Hyundai fanboy.
Our 2013 Santa Fe has 247,000 km and still going strong
That's awesome, good to hear and thanks for sharing.
@@db5351 Great!!
Hi guys ❤🎉
Technically the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a 3 row? But that third row is only for children being punished…
It makes a perfect doggie bench though.
You can go to another garage or a dealer of another brand. I would pre😂that over a quick lube place.
It's an oil change. Relax. over the past 40 years I've never done them more than twice per year, never gone to the same place twice, and never had engine problems. Most cars I've had over 200,000 km.
I’d like to know what make/model car you’re in?
We are in our Porsche Cayenne Diesel
2.60? Maybe everything isn’t bigger in texas. I’m considering 4.39 in CA pretty damn cheap right now which.. is sad
The Hyundai/Kia/Genesis warranty in the US is 10 years/100,000 mile warranty is ONLY on the drivetrain...
Called a local so cal dealer and they told me 11K over MSRP. I laughed.
It may be true in some Northern states but not everywhere.
7 passenger PHEV? If willing to go full EV, there is the Kia EV9 or, for more $, the Rivian R1S, Volvo EX90 or, soon, Lucid Gravity
There is also the Hyundai Ioniq9 that is being launched this month

Been driving my 2023 Genesis GV70 for the last 7 months. 0 issues and I look forward every day to drive it. I couldn’t recommend that car enough. Give the brand a chance and you will not be disappointed.

I love my Pathfinder. Yes, the gas mileage is not great. Still the same for 2025. Likely changes in 2026.
@ it’s going to get the same VC Turbo as the 25 QX-60 I believe.

So hill assist is like a motorcycle clutch?
Does TX really have gas that inexpensive? I'm paying close to $5./gal. and that's not even Cal pricing.
Probably. Here in SC it's right under $3 so I would suspect TX can have gas at that price

Im thinking in 10 years or so we will start to see more affordable cars again. I do not forsee this upscaling continuing forever. Like a camry now is nicer than a Lexus of 10 years ago. People will eventually not be able to afford it and then we will start to see a car where they focus on cheap reliable cars like an old Toyota corolla from 2005
Hyundai and Kia have shit longevity and because of that they have shit resale value. They are throwaway cars. And that's why they're not loved.
I wouldn't buy Hyundai or Kia because of their crazy designs and pushy dealerships 😮

But going back in forth for 10yrs for kia/h cars.. in America are major issues.. stay with Toyota... but 99% are poor and need reliability !!!

Agree The Hyundai Kia group today are amazing, arguably building better and more exciting cars than Toyota...
The service at the dealerships is NOT amazing. The service is getting worse and has been declining hugely for several years now.
Your plaid shirt is purple, not blue.
Except they are priced the same as everyone nowadays
I am so lucky to own a FORD MAVERICK HYBRID, FORD RULES.
