This song has followed me around for so very long. It's like my life anthem. I get a bit teary-eyed when I hear it. It's as if Roger's voice comes out of the sky and says to me, "It's gonna be okay man -- your love wasn't in vain -- your gal's in Heaven and she's waiting for you."
I'm 2 years behind you - I remember going directly from work and spending the whole night out on the street in a queue for WHO tickets at the Glasgow Apollo theatre - I think it was their first UK concert after Keith Moon died - would have been around 1978....! Happy Birthday David....! - best wishes from the west coast of Ireland....!
Have you noticed that THE WHO- only say ONE curse word in ONE Song! Yes while preforming live they do… Point being… Musicians do NOT have to Curse for the Song to be Great💯‼️❤️🤍💙⬆️
Somehow this and other Daltrey’s songs helped me a lot to get trough a divorce earlier this year! I was devastated and asleep for almost three Months straight. This song was my secret place to hold myself. Thank you Roger for your beautiful music!
Masterpiece. Just don't produce this kind of talent nowadays. It's such a pity. Leo Sayer wrote this....a very underrated musician and songwriter. Roger Daltrey did this song the justice it deserved. Leo could belt it out the very best too. Who is stepping into their shoes these days?
Yes, he does..but I like Leo singing it. Leo Sawyer wrote it...so the true feelings about what it means comes through in his voice. I love Roger's too though.
Sagging off school in a smokey cafe I fell in love to this - with a dark-haired girl called Carole. Sadly it never went anywhere, but this song and that moment still evoke such powerful feelings.
What a brilliant brilliant song this is ...only made the top 20 in the uk in 73 (deserved to be much higher )....but what I didnt realise was that it was no other than Leo sayers who actually wrote this great song !!....so well done Leo wonderful songwriter and I think one of the best songs of the 70s ( also I think leo was once living in shoreham by sea west sussex and i was only down the road in sompting !!..what a small world )....anyway god bless and please dont forget to b kind to each other good karma so important and try to do something nice for someone no matter how small it may seem at the time it really does make a difference and it really does soothe the soul xxx 😇🥰😎❤❤❤
Roger's voice sounds perfect on this song. It really shows what a good singer is. And damn he is a real good looking boy! I think he has a wonderful body to go with that wonderful voice. I have loved him forever; a true and loyal fan, Becky.
Many thanks. This version is my favorite. This song definitely speaks to the heart/soul. To my mind, this song is about dropping everything and walking away from it all -- money/materialism -- what we call "life" in general. There's nothing wrong with dropping out of mainstream society for a while and kicking it about. All the best to you and yours.
this singer has so many ties to me and a friend of mine... he has passed a few years back now and whenever I listen to roger or The Who- i it blows me away
Great track. Daltrey definitely does this justice. Once I found out Leo Sayer wrote it I can really hear him in it too even though he isn't. Love Daltrey and Sayer. Thanks 👍
first heard this when i was bout 13, saw tommy at the cinema then someone gave me the single im free and im sure this was the b side, it was 36years ago and i still love it. thanks.
Great vocal performance from Roger. This song's got dramatic presence which is made for Mister Daltrey's vocal talents. Fab drum and strings too - excellent production
I always felt that this song is about a man looking back on how he turned his back on everyone to take his own path. When we are young (arrogance or nievity?) we think we can stand alone and go our own way.Time and age makes him see that we all need someone to be close too. I might be wrong, but it sums up my experience,. Thankfully, I saw it in time and met my someone. Getting mellow in my old age but much happier.
One of the most beautiful songs ever,it helps me through my life
It's january 16 2024 and i still listen " Givin' it all away" ! Who else?

Written by none other than the highly talented Leo Sayer

Somehow this and other Daltrey’s songs helped me a lot to get trough a divorce earlier this year! I was devastated and asleep for almost three Months straight. This song was my secret place to hold myself. Thank you Roger for your beautiful music!

Happy Birthday Leo Sayer. May 22nd. 2024. 76 today.
October 2024 and listening and loving this..at 75 years young.❤
One has to admit Daltrey sings it superbly.
He sings everything superbly, best male voice in rock!
Yes, he does..but I like Leo singing it.
Leo Sawyer wrote it...so the true feelings about what it means comes through in his voice. I love Roger's too though.
I concur
Hey Catherine, how are you doing?
@@colingeddes2172 no, it was Leo Sayer who wrote it ...but Roger is the one who made it so big and well known. I like Leo singing it too.
What a unique voice Very few artists could sing this classic like Roger Daltry. One of my favourite tunes of the seventies.
Have always loved this song. Love how it just fades in at the start. Rogers voice does the song the justice it deserves too.
One of the best songs he did on his own.
"Say it ain't so" Is equal to this class tune.
and I'm Free.
I'd say the best
Reminds me of my dad this song! Love you pops 👌🏻👊🏻💙
Just such a perfectly strangely beautiful song. One of Rogers finest moments.
The best rock voice of them all. Freddie was the best front man but daltrey was the true rocker.
Andrew Livett in his prime he was definitely more talented that Freddie
Freddie was pish
Really a great song!!! Performed by the great Roger Daltrey
A brilliant song, Why it doesn't appear at the top of most peoples lists of greats I don't know
It's in my (very crowded!) all-time top 20.
Absolutely brilliant, timeless
This song is imprinted in my brain from when I was a boy walking my Alsatian called Sheba one morning and singing the song in my head. Its magic!
Wullie Thompson everyone in England that had an Alsatian called it Sheba in the 60`s and 70`s and by the way how are the Broons

My heart weeps ...This should of been a no:1
The good thing about music, it doesn't have to reach No1 to be number one.
should HAVE been number 1
this song is such a gem brings back great memories
I once saw leo sayers car in a hotel carpark. If I had known he'd written this I would have left a note on his windscreen.

Classic tune by one of the great performers.
The video reminds me of a TV show called the golden oldie picture show which is also where I first heard this great song
Yes Bobby you are right and from the 80's.
stumbled on this by accident, it's been so long since I've heard it. ty and like your video 👍
Hey Cathy, how are you doing?
The song of our youth.. Not knowing how to play and consequently giving it all away.. But.. We know better now... don't we?
Hopefully!❤
