I just wanted to tell you that you helped me so much through my jaw surgery and recovery. I would watch your videos and they helped so much. We even spoke briefly on Instagram. I really appreciate you. I’m so happy you’re doing well! ❤
Great advice. Inflammatory foods do make insulin resistance worse. I've noticed that anything that dramatically spikes one's blood glucose or inflames like see oils are very bad, provide negative impacts for days afterward. Having said that it can be expensive to avoid seed oils as a gallon of olive oil tops $50 often now, three times of what it was.
It's absolutely better to make the required changes before you become a full blown insulin dependent type 2 diabetic like I did, but it's never to late to make the changes. I went from taking 1,000 mg of Metformin 2x a day and 45 units of insulin at bed time every day to taking no Metformin and no insulin at all by changing my diet and getting off my lazy ass and exercising daily. I walk on the treadmill for an hour a day now, and eat whole foods with low net carb counts. No processed junk food, no sugary treats. A reasonable portion of meat, fish, poultry, or eggs and a large amount of veggies for dinner, and intermittent fasting. I'm 64 years old now so if I can do it, anyone can. You can do it with less than an hour a day on the treadmill, but the more exercise the better, not just for reversing diabetes, but for over all cardio vascular health as well. I've not felt better than I do today for many years. I have more energy, and less appetite than I did 20 years ago! Btw..I did this in less than 3 months. I've lost 25 lbs, and have not needed to take a shot of insulin or a pill of Metformin in 2 months. I'm under no illusion that I've cured my diabetes, just reversed it, and more or less put it on hold. I'm sure that if I were to go back to eating processed foods and sugary treats, my diabetes would come right back. This needs to be a life long change in order to stay healthy and insulin free. Only time will tell if I can stay the course, but the way I feel now that I'm becoming healthy, I don't see why I would ever want to go back to my previous life style. My DR was pretty surprised at my last visit when I told him I was no longer taking the diabetes meds, yet was able to maintain my blood glucose levels in the 80-110 range, with most days hovering in the 90's. My only regret is I didn't start doing this years ago when I was warned that I was pre diabetic. I urge everyone to not wait until you are shooting insulin every day to take action and change your life style.
I’ve tried taking bread, rice and tortillas out of my diet but I am having a hard time. It’s a cultural thing tbh. I am definitely not eating them as much as I used to though and if I do, I’m conscious of the serving size and have only a small amount. Seems to be working for me so far. No drastic spikes in sugar levels after consumption. If I do eat any of the things above, I jump on my stationary bike for at least 20 mins after my meal as a way to burn some calories. That helps a ton in keeping my levels low despite indulging a bit. It’s all trial and error and it’s taken me some time to figure out. I encourage anybody that suffers from diabetes or pcos like myself to keep playing with your diet to find the right fit and to track your sugar levels. You will notice trends after a while and you can adjust and improve. Kaits videos have educated me so much! Love love love your content. Thank you! ❤

Hey, Kait. Thanks for the content; LOVE YOUR MESSAGE!!! I have a quick question on smoothies. I make a spinach / protein smoothie most days and wanted to ask your opinion on whether it supports your message. I include 3 cups of raw, organic spinach, 2 scoops of grass-fed, organic protein (48g protein), 1 cup of Fairlife protein milk (13g protein), and a banana. In total, it has ~61g of protein and ~25g of sugar (19g from the banana). Also, I've heard that blending the spinach removes the benefits of its fiber, is that true? Love to hear your thoughts. ~Kevin
I love your advice and channel. I love smoothies and can't seem to break the habit as my first meal of two meals of the day :-). My daily smoothie consists of Equip protein (various flavors), cup of coconut milk, 1/4 cup of pecans or macadamia nuts, 1/4 cup Cocoyo coconut yogurt, MCT powder, butter powder, 1/4 of an avocado, one tablespoon each of chia, flax, and hemp seeds, 1 tablespoon lucuma powder, vanilla, ceylon cinnamon, and an inch of fresh ginger. A lot of ingredients indeed and it keeps me full for 6-7 hours or more. It never raises my blood sugar based on checking it with my glucose meter a couple of hours after drinking it.
That's because she gives badly researched generic advice based on a few numbers and not the total facts. Nothing wrong with a well balanced smoothie, all you have to remember is to include fiber, good fats, protein, and whole foods. She needs to learn a few basic things about carbs vs. net carbs, Glycemic load. Does she stumble on some good advice now and the? Yes. She claims to be educated but does not seem to know there are no such thing as Beans and Legumes. Beans are Legumes, Legumes include beans, lentils, peanuts. Pretty scary when the so called 'expert' does not a know beans are legumes, beans are fine in moderation and variety. Just sayin'. PS you want real sound advice, and not bits from the school of BS, try a real Board Certified Endocrinologists on YT diabetes specialist under the Name SugarMD. One more PS No I am not the doctor who's name I can't pronounce. I have a bachelors degree in food science, I have been a certified nutritionist since 2007. I fully reversed my type 2 diabetes, and heart disease eating the Mediterranean way, which included well balanced whole food smoothies, plenty of beans, veggies EVOO and other good fats, and very moderate amounts of grass fed and finished beef, hard raw cheeses. Happy healthy trails.
I pretty much quit eating beans looms. And I drink very little produce produce juice. I still have a problem. I’m still working hard thank you very very much for these videos. Helps me head in the right direction.
I LOVE beans 😭😭😭 I literally have kidney beans, pinto, navy beans, black beans etc. I am severely diabetic (just found out I am like 2 weeks ago after living for over 2 years feeling awful, faint and like I'm going to pass out multiple times a day... I'd just ignore it and keep going until I literally thought... I'm going to die) anyway, I LOVE beans and I've always added in ground flaxseed and cheese to them and VOILA.. yummmmmy😍🤤
I used to eat almost all of these things. I also used to weigh 350 lbs. I have PCOS and over the past 10 years slowly educated myself on the best ways to eat and the things that really helped my symptoms. I can fully support what Health Coach Kait explains. Her facts are on point. I've also seen doctors who are not educated about women's health.... OR PCOS who have tried to tell me advice that is not the best for PCOS. My lowest weight in 10 years was 190. I was intermittent fasting for 14-16 hours 6 days a week. I wasn't snacking at all. I felt the best I ever had. I was staying away from everything listed in this video and focusing on fat and protein. The diet life with PCOS is not the same with someone who doesn't suffer from insulin resistance. My best advice is to educate yourself if you have insulin resistance and listen facts supported by real studies. Health Coach Kait knows her stuff and she knows it well.
Great video. Thanks. I've been eating low GI whole wheat bread, what should I swop bread out with? My food choices are becoming extremely limited. I feel defeated.
I switched to Ezekiel bread for lunch but even with that bread I try to have 2 sandwiches a week sometimes 3 for lunch but usually just 2 After dinner I have half a aloha protein bar. Not the full bar though. Hoping I haven’t been making a mistake with those things
I got a cgm and man I really learned that my body doesn’t do well with bread including Ezekiel bread and pizza even with veggies and drinking vinegar before was the worst by far definitely listen to your own body
No I don’t eat those foods however my blood sugar is high in the am. I’m no modified keto, related to my CKD 4. Been Omad for at least a year, then I’m back to 2mad since my hgb went down. My breakfast consist of over easy eggs x 2 1 slice sourdough with butter and half green apple. BTW I used organic,Pasteur raised eggs i believe Pasteur raise/finished is the best. Your thoughts, thanks more power to you.
I couldn’t care less if I never use 6 out of 7 of those items but when you’ve had bread as part of your meals 2-3 times a day for 40 years it’s proving pretty hard to totally give it up.
Bread doesn’t affect everyone the same. Go into any restaurant and look at the folks. Most are eating the same items on the menu yet they all look different.
I eat wholemeal bread , i like fish finger toasted sandwiches. Beetroot juice for me at breakfast. Bread is hard to do without. However, i have an Apple cider vinegar drink with it.
I do my own granola, just with sunflower seeds, hazelnut and walnut, cinnamon and nutmeg. No oils or sugar added. I eat it with plain greek yogurt, half apple and red fruits. No beans or legumes...hard for a picky eater. 😬
Hi Kait, I'm new to your channel, I just recently found out I'm diabetic/hypogloscemic. Do you have a video for both? I honestly don't even know what to eat anymore. Thank you!
What if a person adds some protein and fat(s) to bread 🍞 when they consume it so the absorption of the sugar it'll breakdown to is more slowly absorbed by the body 🤔⁉️
When I was hungry I use to grab a quest bar on the run and my blood sugar was all over the place and then I looked at the ingredients and quest changed and added sucralose to their bars from then on I just stop buying all bars, waste of money
Are there any slow burning carbs that I can have. I work at fedex working 10 hour days that are non stop and I get so tired within a couple of hours that I start drinking energy drinks . I’m 55 years old but I need to work like a 25 year old …lol
Was in similar situation, 57 and run a commercial grounds company. Always on the go. Energy drinks are classified at the very top of the list of 'things that are the worst ' for your body. I now use a scoop of keto1000 powder for electrolytes and stur flavoring and make my own drink. Eat 1-2 avocados mid day or early afternoon if hungry. Works like a champ.
Low carb and grain free bread is much healthier and fermented beans that are pressure cooked will have very minimal lectins. Try the Eden brand or Italian pressure cooked brands of beans.
I don’t do any of those, walk 20 miles a week. I went to Central America and hiked up a volcano and still gain weight. I eat plenty of protein as well. I’m pretty active guy. Wonder if I need a nutritionist or my eating times. 🤔 Meat and eggs don’t have a ton of calories and as a man I have a hard time eating 2,000 per day. Sometimes only 1,800.
@chrischreative2245 you could switch to plant based butter too, I promise it tastes the same as the usual stuff😍 and actually olive oils health benefits come from it NOT being heated up. Using it as a drizzle or spritz over food and not oxidizing it. I've watched tons of MDs on RUclips talk about the best ways to use olive oil because I love it. Instead of cooking in olive oil and heating it up which strips the health benefits from it I use the plant based butter to cook with
@@Itsmejwls No, I don’t use any plant based products as they’re very heavily processed. I use real Butter and olive oil as a source of fats. I grew up on a farm and natural is better.
I love beans of all kinds and thought they were a fairly healthy food. Alas, now I know the truth. I'm not contemplating suicide, but how can I live without beans?! (And beans weren't the only bad food on the list that I've been eating regularly.)😭
Saaaaaaame. I literally LOVE beans. They are one of my favvvvv meals. Beans, I add in ground flaxseed and cheese😍😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤 perfect meal! I literally have navy beans, black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans etc etc lol
sorry , but you wrong on the Bean issue show me a study please Beans lower blood sugar , not only after the meal , but for a extended period . Pubmed has lots of research and no , i am not a vegan
I'm looking for a good non-oil based salad dressing. I was researching legumes and keto just yesterday. I was eating a few spoon full of hummus with every meal.
Salad dressings with olive or avocado oil are good options! Primal Kitchen or undivided food co have good ones depending on where you live. A few spoonfuls of hummus is not the end of the world. It’s more if you’re relying on beans as a protein source.
@@HealthCoachKait It's homemade organic hummus with garlic and a bit of EVOO. I get skin outbreaks if I eat too much oil. Like an oil based salad dressing. I just found this "Catalina Dressing". Which is like a tomato sauce dressing. I can try adding EVOO in the small blender to make it even thicker.
I heard from several sources that beans cause a very gradual rise and not a spike in glucose. They contain fiber, protein, and no cholesterol or saturated fat.
This is what I have heard too and this video is literally the first time I've heard anyone say they aren't good for insulin resistance. I do a lot of fasting from the time I wake up until sometimes dinner and I'll eat ONE meal and on those days I literally eat beans like 16 Oz of them with ground flaxseed mixed in and cheese 😍🤤 I just add the extra fiber because I feel like it definitely is helpful for diabetes and also the fact that I am on metformin it helps tremendously with NOT getting diarrhea from metformin 😁
@@Itsmejwls Neal Barnard, MD is very pro-bean, and recommends veganism. I am not quite there yet -- still eat fish and reduced-fat cheese, but working on it. He is also pro-oatmeal.
"I heard from several sources that beans cause a very gradual rise and not a spike in glucose." A lie. Just a propaganda. Get your own CGM and see what a BS that nonsense is. "They contain fiber," Unhealthy. "protein" The wrong mix of amino-acids and poorly bioavailable. " no cholesterol or saturated fat" Which are healthy. And you forgot that beans are loaded with lectins and other plant-toxins. No reason to eat that unhealthy nonsense.
@@HealthCoachKait I appreciate fiber is non essential nutrient, Because it's derived from essential nutrients (carbs) and we don't depend on it to survive however it helps gut health, digestive system even blood sugar control etc. Personally, I was on a keto diet 2 year ago always hungry
@@Coyote-tc1wwnot sure how old you are, and glad it works. However I need carbs to build progesterone to calm me down otherwise I would not be able to sleep 😊

Kind has a kind zero ,caramel mocha nut granola, the kind you can pour into a yogurt that doesn't spike my blood sugar and my blood sugar is normal after eating it. It has no sugar. Try it and check your blood sugar after it. I only eat this after I've eaten my high protein meal, with a whole fat Greek yogurt.
Insulin shots make insulin resistance worse 😭 I have a video on this ruclips.net/video/zU-nRl85rlc/видео.htmlsi=UyScnk5N6558FLxj Your top priority should be reducing your need for injections and eventually having no need for it entirely.
@@HealthCoachKaitsheesh thank God I said no to the insulin my Dr wanted me on. I told him I want to do the metormin and that I'll change how I eat and drink fluids.
I’ve lost 15 pounds eating an extra meal of beans. They have a lot of fiber which coats your intestines and decreases carbohydrate absorption. The others, I agree with.
In T1 Diabetics, a WFPB high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet lowers the amount of insulin required per day. Not sure if it lower/higher than a carnivore/keto diet.
Beans are legumes are so rich in fiber and vitamins, so your info about them contributing to insulin resistance is completely false. They are low in GI.
All foods are bad if you eat too much of it. Too much meat is bad, same goes for fish, dairy etc.. just eat a balanced diet unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Have you taken any of these foods out of your diet and noticed improvement?

When I was hungry I use to grab a quest bar on the run and my blood sugar was all over the place and then I looked at the ingredients and quest changed and added sucralose to their bars from then on I just stop buying all bars, waste of money
And Not good for you. Anything with Lose in the ingredients is poison.
What do we use for a bread swap out as we need fiber also .
Use ground flaxseed. Sprinkle it in with things you eat. I pour ground flaxseed in everything lol
What about smoothie kings keto smoothies??
@@stealinator … great info thank you
What about keto bread?
Its about time that someone talked the truth about all these foods. Thanks
I eat legumes for the fibre content - but they do raise the blood glucose
wow - that chickpea carb count - you are the best
I sometimes eat bread and beans
Low carb and grain free bread is much healthier and fermented beans that are pressure cooked will have very minimal lectins. Try the Eden brand or Italian pressure cooked brands of beans.
I don’t do any of those, walk 20 miles a week. I went to Central America and hiked up a volcano and still gain weight. I eat plenty of protein as well. I’m pretty active guy. Wonder if I need a nutritionist or my eating times. 🤔 Meat and eggs don’t have a ton of calories and as a man I have a hard time eating 2,000 per day. Sometimes only 1,800.
Eat more fat. You need to be in ketosis to burn fat. Simple rule is eat fat to burn fat and eat carbs to make fat.
@@johnzimmerman6516 ok, I cook with olive oil and real butter also, Look for real cheese, drink whole milk. I’ll look for other sources of good fats
@@chrischreative2245use Avocado oil to cook with. Good fats.
Thank you for good science
❤️❤️
"most people can't eat 3 while oranges"
what?
When was the last time you sat down and ate three whole oranges? I didn’t say it wasn’t possible. I just said people don’t do it haha
I love beans of all kinds and thought they were a fairly healthy food. Alas, now I know the truth. I'm not contemplating suicide, but how can I live without beans?! (And beans weren't the only bad food on the list that I've been eating regularly.)😭
Keep consuming beans. They are healthy and contribute to longevity. Her info on legumes are completely false and anti scientific
Saaaaaaame. I literally LOVE beans. They are one of my favvvvv meals. Beans, I add in ground flaxseed and cheese😍😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤 perfect meal! I literally have navy beans, black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans etc etc lol
Great tips, thank you!👍
sorry , but you wrong on the Bean issue
show me a study please
Beans lower blood sugar , not only after the meal , but for a extended period .
Pubmed has lots of research
and no , i am not a vegan
Test for yourself! My clients run n=1 experiments and beans in isolation always spike.
Wow YAB Kait!
Aaah no I am a sourdough bread fan😢
I'm looking for a good non-oil based salad dressing. I was researching legumes and keto just yesterday. I was eating a few spoon full of hummus with every meal.
Make you r own
Salad dressings with olive or avocado oil are good options! Primal Kitchen or undivided food co have good ones depending on where you live. A few spoonfuls of hummus is not the end of the world. It’s more if you’re relying on beans as a protein source.
Assuming the hummus doesn’t have vegetable oil
@@HealthCoachKait I'll check them out. Thanks!!
I haven’t eaten any of those foods Kaiti and you know I am no longer pre diabetic, thank you so much for doing these videos ❤❤
Those oils are in at least in 85% of food im the grocery store.
What about protein bars?
Terrible for you. You might as well eat a candy bar.
No bread 🥖😢 not even Ezekiel ?
That's fine
I eat Ezekiel. Doesn't spike my blood sugar. You should check your own blood sugar after you eat it.
Thank you Kait,my mice are healthy keto.
It amazes me that in the current year people still think low saturated fat and cholesterol is desirable at all. The literal opposite is true.
"I heard from several sources that beans cause a very gradual rise and not a spike in glucose."
A lie. Just a propaganda. Get your own CGM and see what a BS that nonsense is.
"They contain fiber,"
Unhealthy.
"protein"
The wrong mix of amino-acids and poorly bioavailable.
" no cholesterol or saturated fat"
Which are healthy.
And you forgot that beans are loaded with lectins and other plant-toxins.
No reason to eat that unhealthy nonsense.
Yes because she is dead wrong, glycemic index of legumes is low
Without beans or wholemeal bread, I wouldn't be satisfied just with proteins and veggies. We need both fibers: soluble and insoluble
Fiber is actually a non essential nutrient. We require 0.
@@navybloo546I’m on a full blown carnivore diet, intermittent fasting every day, eat twice a day and I’m never hungry between meals
@@Coyote-tc1wwnot sure how old you are, and glad it works. However I need carbs to build progesterone to calm me down otherwise I would not be able to sleep 😊
@@mumscookedfood2214I’m 62, had a triple bypass when I was 49, went on statins and became a vegan for about five years, I still had horrible results from blood work, went full blown carnivore and blood work is fabulous, melatonin helps for sleep!
I don't understand how those foods can be healthy.
I love beans 🫘 but they are carb heavy..
Legumes are full of fiber which is amazing for health and there are tons of studies to support that. Lost me right away.
Science!
beans are great source of fiber and decent source of protein, great for reversing insulin resistance
More fiber than most people need and not a good source of protein, as mentioned in this video
@@HealthCoachKait what? fiber is good for blood sugar and losing weight.
that's why i said decent source of protein not great. but it has some protein
yes, 100% fruit juice is not a health food
Smh my granola bars I have the kind brand though 😢
Kind has a kind zero ,caramel mocha nut granola, the kind you can pour into a yogurt that doesn't spike my blood sugar and my blood sugar is normal after eating it. It has no sugar. Try it and check your blood sugar after it. I only eat this after I've eaten my high protein meal, with a whole fat Greek yogurt.
Kind brand are No Bueno. Too much sugar.
What if the Dr has u to take insulin Shots
Insulin shots make insulin resistance worse 😭 I have a video on this ruclips.net/video/zU-nRl85rlc/видео.htmlsi=UyScnk5N6558FLxj Your top priority should be reducing your need for injections and eventually having no need for it entirely.
@@HealthCoachKaitsheesh thank God I said no to the insulin my Dr wanted me on. I told him I want to do the metormin and that I'll change how I eat and drink fluids.
Beans and Legumes??? Oh great this is what I survive on with broccoli
Animal protein is better ❤️
@@HealthCoachKait better for who? not animals and not for us, they are full of antibiotics and bad fats
I’ve lost 15 pounds eating an extra meal of beans. They have a lot of fiber which coats your intestines and decreases carbohydrate absorption. The others, I agree with.
thats true, and lentis don't cause a glucose spike
In T1 Diabetics, a WFPB high-carb, low-fat, low-protein diet lowers the amount of insulin required per day. Not sure if it lower/higher than a carnivore/keto diet.
maybe not as a protein source, but beans are as much of a worldwide food staple as rice. BOTH are extremely valuable in a healthy diet.
Not ideal for insulin resistance unfortunately
@@HealthCoachKaitright 👍🏼 If someone is insulin Sensitive than a small amount is ok occasionally.
@@alysezalazinski5599 for sure! I didn't say don't eat them, but they are not a good protein source and they are not great for insulin resistance
Very niceeeeeeeeeeee🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Beans are legumes are so rich in fiber and vitamins, so your info about them contributing to insulin resistance is completely false. They are low in GI.
More fiber than most people need and not that rich in micronutrients. Most is bound to anti nutrients and can’t be absorbed.
@@HealthCoachKait even if your false information were true, they still wouldn’t contribute to insulin resistance any tiny bit.
@@HealthCoachKait are you nuts?
Plants are also carbs.
And?
I just so happen to be eating lentils while watching your video about lentils
Have to factor in fiber w some of those
So this contradicts your episode 3. How many carbs and what kind are you permitted a day if you are trying to reverse pre diabetes?
🙂👍👍
Swap bread out for what?
There are studies that seem to contradict your position on chickpeas
Mostly expensive food allowed to diabetes.
Not at all! Just eat whole foods rich in protein, and mainly non starchy veg and low sugar fruit
No fancy expensive products needed
All foods are bad if you eat too much of it. Too much meat is bad, same goes for fish, dairy etc.. just eat a balanced diet unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
