Anger rooted in my childhood trauma has caused me to sabotage the most valuable relationships I’ve ever had. It caused me to lash out and project my anger onto the person I loved most in this world…and then it fed on my guilt and turned inward. I’m working hard. I’m going to deal with this. I never want to hurt anyone, ever again

Practice the pause, apply brakes, reflect the possible outcomes of my decisions, my anger...is it even necessary to react....Practice the pause....watch hot breath blowing out from your NOSTRILS.
Remember, since we are not the sole inhabitants of this densely populated world, there are bound to be external disturbances of various kinds, such as noise and interruptions by visitors. We cannot always live in “splendid isolation,” “from noise of men and dogs untroubled,” or in “ivory towers” high above the crowd. Right mediation is not escapism; it is not meant to provide hiding-places for temporary oblivion.
Realistic meditation has the purpose of training the mind to face, to understand and to conquer this very world in which we live.
And this world inevitably includes numerous obstacles to the life of meditation.

Use the resources around you to make progress. Personally, found it challenging to identify the triggers causing me to get angry - that's where mood tracking apps like MoodScriber helped. Then joining a health club/gym helped put myself in a healthy community. I think a combination of Community + Meditation + Self Discipline + Apps can be great way to make progress.

Ways to deal with anger, though it is a difficult task:
    1) Acknowledge ‘your thoughts’, that they are generated due to anger. “What am I thinking now? In which state is my current thought is at?”
    2) Focus on breathing - Breathing will be short and fast when you are angry. Focus in slowing down your breath. Take 2-3 long deep breaths and let it out. This helps to calm your mind and body.
    3) Reflect on your thought pattern and ask “why did I get angry?”. Anger prevails in your mind. Anger is something YOU have created. You have two choices - react with negative behaviour or to respond with positive behaviour.
Your experience is going to depend based on the choice you make. You have the power and privilege to respond with positivity. Hence, believe in patience.
Believe in calm, kindness and patience - this will help to manage anger. Sometimes it is ok to experience anger in your mind but It is not okay to let the anger to flow out of from our bodily action and in form of words. These conscious practices will help you to manage your emotions.
    Namo Budhaya 🙏🏼🤍

This made sense. I like simple truths/instructions- not long philosophical Ted talks ( no offense). Recently I’ve noticed that when I’m angry about something, my thoughts don’t end there - suddenly I realize I’m remembering situations from my past that have made me angry- most often, the unresolved situations…. I catch myself, and I wonder “now how did I get here where I’m angry about something that’s passed?”
I know that my angry thoughts lead to memories of other angry thoughts and I know that is not healthy.
    I like this. I’m subscribing.

Anger is perhaps the most misunderstood emotion. It’s usually called “negative” in so-called spiritual circles, and is often equated with rage and hate. But in reality, anger - just like any of our basic emotions - isn’t negative in itself. Rather, it’s there for a very important reason: to help us live a better life. More specifically, it’s there to help us remove what’s obstructing our way to joy and freedom. And it does so by drawing our attention to what our needs are, what’s preventing us from meeting them, and what corrective actions we can take in order to meet them.

    • @nottinghillad

Anger can be negative if it's energy touches other people and they do not know why it's being projected onto them. Conflict zone.

Anger can destroy a life time of good deeds in one moment. Just like a knife is not negative until it is used to harm someone. Anger not only harms others, it harms ourselves. Sometimes irreparably.

Anger and its negativity is not a different thing, Anger is just a name of a negative emotion, so itself is a negative emotion because it is an emotion that always tries to hurt others or yourself.
If the anger doesn't try to hurt others or yourself you can call it a non-negative emotion.
The emotion that drives you to a better life is called hope and determination. Don't misunderstand between determination and anger.🙏🏼

Anger, resentments, and unforgiveness are things that I have always struggled with and even though I've been working with a therapist on it, I still struggle. When I was doing the 12 steps with a sponsor, she had me write down and discuss my resentments and how they have effected me so that I could see the damage and have motivation to let them go. They also told me how resentments only harm you, not the people who did you wrong. She had me write down my part in the conflicts that caused my resentments so that I could see where I was in the wrong, make amends, reconcile the relationships if appropriate, change my behaviors, and build my character. Now obviously this doesn't always apply like in cases where you were abused. It also helps me to understand human behavior and why we behave how we do for example mental illness. This is absolutely Not condoning or justifying their actions, it just helps to have compassion and wish them well. It can also be tempting to get revenge, but remember not only are there consequences for that, but they will get their karma. If they change because of it good for them and forgive them if they make amends to you. It's hard, but it helps.

To anyone feeling put off, because anger is very impulsive, especially when arising from trauma, this is still possible. The noticing step is very important and to notice your anger with loving kindness or self compassion. Noticing is the gateway which will allow you to step back and make the change so that you are less reactive. Good luck! :)

Thank you. There are many common triggers for anger, such as losing our patience, feelings as if our opinion or efforts aren't appreciated and Injustice/ Insults. Other causes of anger include memories of traumatic enraging events. I believe in the theory of karma and strongly believe that one's actions have a direct bearing on one's destiny sooner or later. We find ourselves completely undone by someone else's behaviour. Most of the things that we get upset about aren't our issues.

Avoiding the situation or person that triggers anger can help. Learn relaxation exercises, such as deep breathing, to help manage stress. Use positive self-talk to help control emotions. Make time for activities that bring peace and joy, such as listening to music, talking with friends, exercising, or reading.

I know that if you feel anger when someone insults you then there is some truth to it. However the guy from the deli laughed and said he was overcharging me. He laughed so I asked for my money back and did not comply. I lost my temper and took the 4 popcorns packets across his face. Not my proudest moment but the part that bothers me is that I felt a sense of relief and slight enjoyment. A few days later pass by him in the street and he says what will you give me for Christmas. I replied I already gave it to you. 4 popcorns to the face. I will do my best to put this into practice. Thank you.

Like most of us, if left unchecked, I am a person prone to getting locked into my head, spinning narratives, stories; recycling memories and orchestrating 'what-if' scenarios that, I'd often then eventually believe to be 'true' and carry into the world with me.
For some reason I believed that being so analytical of the everything in my mind was a good thing, that it kept me prepared but, and this is a big 'but' I rarely analyzed where the thoughts were coming from themselves.
Like anger, I learned to see when the narrative was arising, when I was escalating in delusions but instead of being swept away and eventually reacting, Ive been learning to see how it is separate and not identify with it. Asking myself, "why am I really feeling like this?" the thoughts can be watched from a detached place and let to fizzle out, almost amusingly.
Eventually, from watching my thoughts, i realized they are in fact not 'me' but then was left with the deeper and more enjoyable question" then what is the entity watching my thoughts?" 😅
I don't have a full answer for that at the moment but that's where I am now 😂

My personal experience: In my life, anger crept in after my mid twenties. Before that I never had an anger issues. I was always calm. But now a days, anything that happens against my wish then I get angry. This has affected my relationship with my dear wife. And it seems that anger can also be genetic. My grandfather and father also have anger issues.

In Christianity peace and patience are called fruit of the spirit. The master said every branch that does not bear fruit is cut off and cast into the fire. Let us therefore practice peace and patience not only with words . . . but also with deeds. Controlling the breath and mindfulness are two such practices.
