      Nice comparison! Could you do a M2 Mac Studio Max(base) to a M3 MacBook Pro 14" or 16" comparison too? Because they are at similar price range $1800 - $2000 and I am sure a lot people would be wondering if to go with M2 Studio Max or M3 MacBook Pro for the performance/dollar(since it would be a while for the M3 Mac Studio to come out).

    The Disk Speeds Read/Write are actually identical across the M3 Pro vs M3 Max when configured with 1TB. Only reason you're seeing different speeds is because you're comparing 1TB vs 512GB. I have both an M3 Pro and M3 Max.
    This could affect the rest of your testing as well that involves disk read/write speeds, like exporting tests. Since Disk speeds are higher on 1TB models, other benchmarks could be different as well.

      Thanks for the clarification.Also i want to understand if i go from 1TB to 2 or 4,will how much speed gain will i get ? Is it worth,also considering the TBW can 1TB last for at least 3 years ?

    • @ColorOfTheDay
      @ColorOfTheDay 9 месяцев назад +14

      With the 1TB config are the same all the way through to the 8TB config. In the 1TB config you're getting 4x 256GB chips, and having the 4 chips is what increases the speed, at 2TB, you get 4x 512GB chips, at 4 TB, you get 4x 1TB chips, etc...
      At 512GB, you're only getting 2x 256GB chips. So that's why the speed is slower.
      So the speeds will be the same from 1TB-8TB.

      I too use Logic, and as you stated the absurd track count that Logic claims to support is something that no-one should ever have to exceed. Even if one is also including tracks for dialogue and SFX to actually mix a film with every single music track included in the same session ( which is not how the Pros do it) I can’t imagine why someone would need to support 1000 tracks (Apple was advertising this “feature” years ago for Logic - way too many to control or even view with multiple monitors) :)

    Hey Max & Vadim. Id like to see a video which is more reallife for the topic of videoediting. We see a lot of benchmarks about export times but tbh i dont really care if id takes 5min or 20min. Id rather be interested about the flow of the edit. When scrubbing through the timeline, is it smooth, instant? I hate an interruption of my editingflow. When the click is delayed or the replay is studdering. Maybe one of your editors could make a video about that. How they feel while editing with a reallife project in 4k. Many thanks for the effort

      CLICK BAIT IS CORRECT My needs and workload require a great screen and storage space over RAM. I understand I might be in the minority but these different models exist for CHOICE. Heck you guys even did a video on the base 8 256 iMac saying everyone else is wrong about it and it can last for 10 years. You are starting to act snobby in your videos (I like your content but stop sounding elite). I was able to get a brand new SEALED base MacBook Pro m3 for $300 off. I was eyeing the MacBook Air for my needs. But was able to snag this for the same price.
      YES 8GB can be limiting in certain circumstances but in this video you went out of your way to overload the 8GB model with 20 tabs and Lightroom. I don’t believe in spending excess money on specs I don’t currently need. Yes 16gb probably is a good idea for MANY PEOPLE but not every professional needs it. AGAIN these specs offer choice for every persons specific requirements
      To Max Tech stop sounding so snobby. I do more than email and watch videos. Not every PRO require tons of RAM but makes my profession no less PRO THAN YOURS

      14" non-binned M3 Max (48 GB) would be interesting! What about the fans and fan noise at heavy load? Compared to binned (36 GB). I'm afraid of even more fan noise or at least similar.
      I belive that if you don't like fan noise you should avoid 14" M3 Max and go for 14" M3 Pro 11c or 12c, maybe 11c. Less cores = less heat = less fan noise.
      So maybe that's why M3 Pro got 5/6 P cores and 6 E cores. And "so few GPU cores".
      I'm curious how M3 Max is on Low Power Mode: what about fan noise?

    • @bladerealm124
      @bladerealm124 9 месяцев назад

      @@cjeelde from what I've seen fan noise is quiet in low power mode, multi-core is better than M3 Pro but single core is worse than M3 Pro. With my workflow it'd be nice to have the extra power of the Max when needed and it seems like a much better value than the handicapped Pro this gen. But still looking for more tests that include the binned Max to confirm.

    • @cjeelde
      @cjeelde 9 месяцев назад

      @@bladerealm124 I can only say that probably is M3 Max best suited for Mac Studio if you want the combo of performance and "no" fan noise. MBP16 comes in 2nd place, MBP14 comes last.
      So what's best for a MBP14 (performance and low fan noise)?
      M3 Max Low Power Mode
      M3 Pro Normal Power Mode
      You want M3 Max for the performance/speed! You don't want the combo speed and much fan noise...
      I think M3 Max for MBP is kind of a failure. This was the big thing about Apple Silicon? That you will get the combo High Performance + Low Power = long battery life & "no" fan noise?
      If I should put Apple's M chips - for MacBook Pro - in a Tier Ranking I would not put M3 Max in the S or A tier.
      Maybe it's better to wait for M4 Max?

Factor in 1TB SSD and 36GB RAM and I’m spending 600 already - that’s the same price as the base m3 max on sale. Even without the sale, you come very close to the price of the max. It’s classic apple. You should compare the M3 Pro chips with two 14” or 16” models. Not the other being a different size. Since the 16” model has better cooling thus can let the chip throttle more here and there. This would be fine if both chips were 12 cores, but only the 16” had that.

    In you first stat you have the M3 having 10 core CPU. I believe its 8 core CPU on all 3 configurations.

    The biggest cool factor of the base model is the battery life which is why the 16gb version of the base model still has something over the m3 pro for users that are getting this for the quality screen for media consumption combined with light music production and other basic tasks

      the only issue for me about the base M3 MBP model is that it only has 2 TB3 ports (M3 Pro MBP has 3 TB4). Otherwise, the base M3 MBP spec'd out to 16/512 for S200 less than the base M3 Pro MBP isn't a bad deal for people who don't care about TB4 or the 2 extra GB RAM.

    Can you update to include the macbook air's m3? that would show the effect of throttling on the longer benchmarks.

    Sorry but if you REALLY wanted to be helpful, you should have given about 4 tiers of sweet spots for buying. All you did was say: don't buy the base one, buy the 11 core m3 pro one OR the 16 core max one. Which means that you only really helped those who had a 1800 USD or so budget or a 4000 USD one... but what happen to those who have a , say 3000 USD budget???? Which is the sweet spot there???? For example, I am debating on getting either a 16" M3 pro (12 core) with 1tb hd and 36gb ram VS a 16" max ( 14 core) with 1tb hd and 36gb ram. Where I live theres a price difference of about 500 or so USD between these two, and I am having q really hard tome decidiing if that extra is worth it. Any help? Input? Advice? Suggesttion???? It doesn't help to give a binary choice such as : spend 1800 usd or 4000 usd

    Loving my 18gb 14"! I'd spent the past 6 months with a 512/8gb m2 air but the ram just wasn't cutting it. Was excellent otherwise though.. However when I found the m3 for $1600 after xmas, it was impossible to turn down. Thank Santa for unwanted gifts!

    Is there a difference among these processors which goes beyond the number of cores and I suppose the memory bandwidtth? Is the Max a Pro with more cores and RAM and better bandwidth or are there also other improvements, eg more cache in chip etc?

    Here’s my dilemma…
    M3, 24gb, 2TB $2599
    M3 Pro, 36gb, 2TB $2999
    Will I see a major improvement for spending the extra $400? I have an M2 Ultra Mac studio which is my primary editing machine.
    I do edit on the road occasionally (I use premiere) so having something capable is a bonus (I’ve done basic stuff on a 13” MacBook Pro M1 and it seemed to perform OK). I also never plug my laptop into a monitor since I already have a desktop machine. The laptop will solely exist to go on the road with me when I have shoots out of town/state so I can dump footage and do some basic editing tasks. I typically shoot 4K but edit in 1080p.
    Someone help, I ordered both so I need to decide which to keep lol

    My only question is RAM. I have the 40 Core M3 Max with 48RAM and 4K editing with 6K BRAW in Davinci shows barely any memory swapping and seem to fly long nicely. I would be curious what 128GB ram would do in the same scenario. I even got the 1TB machine instead of more onboard storage because I found that the performance was exactly the same using internal storage versus really fast external SSDs. Davinci can only do so much and usually doesn't need the insane data transfer rates of internal SSD.

      It seems like the performance between the pro cpu's is about 10/15 percent you're better off in my eyes increasing the amount of ram and at that point differences may be a bit less.
