Yes, many can do their work on the lower Pro chip and don’t need the higher tier one, but the performance for various tasks DOES scale. If I do a compile or complex video render, it may have worked on the Pro chip, but it just runs faster on the Max. The chip is just plain more powerful

My last MacBook pro was the 2012 MacBook pro and stayed with it for 12 years. I hope to have this M3 pro for at least 8 years, I like the pro cause of the ports, screen, battery life, audio and construction. I work with SAP but my company provide a computer to work with. Bought a refurbished Macbook Pro 2017 model in 2022 after my Macbook Air 2012 ran out of space, but the refurbished Mac just died out of the blue 3 days ago, and now I no longer have a laptop, yet I need it for my work and business. I was a happy owner of a 14 inch matebook D but could never really enjoy video editing on the small screen. I now got the 16 inch MacBook and for sure love the screen real estate. This allows me to not require an external monitor so I can feel truly free with only the laptop. Yes, it's a bit bigger and heavier but the screen makes up for that if you ask me. I'm really into visual stuff so for me this will be a game changer. If you prefer to do the visual work on a monitor and travel light I think the 14 inch will be perfect though.
For the games you mentioned, a Mac may not be the best option, but there's a ton of other games available nowadays that run smoothly, which is something I think is worth mentioning, as in your Gaming section, you set different expectations.

One tip: buy a clear plasric snap-on laptop protector. You'll protect your investment and not have tonworry about fingerprints. This laptop is very light, very portable, and has a wonderful display.
I would buy the 16" M3 Pro because I have a 17" laptop now and I've used the larger laptops for many years and am used to the large screen size. I don't move my laptop anymore because I'm retired. Idk if i can get used to downgrading from old 15" MBP to 14" screen. Today, my dilemma is buying MBA 15 M3 16/512 for $1450 ($250 off) or MBP 14 M3 pro 16/512 for $1600 (400 off). I have to transfer 230 gb into new laptop. Any advice?
Going to get this exact model. I have the early 2015 MacBook Pro with intel and think this would be a great upgrade. Also, do you shut down your computer every time you are done using it?
Honestly I rarely shutter down I just close the lid. I’ll maybe reboot it or shut it down once a week. But it’s definitely a mighty upgrade from the 2015 model. Wish I could see your reaction to the difference in battery life 🤯
Did you upgrade the ram? Is 18gb sufficient to run all heavy tasks? Cause my windows laptop has like 16gb of ram and it gets filled easily if I’m editing on Davinci with lot of effects and plugins or even with 4K video rendering. Btw you almost convinced me to buy this laptop. Cause I’m searching for the perfect review on this one. And here you are with an awesome review that I wanted. Thank you very much for such a great video.
Ordered a M3 pro SpaceBlack.. not sure if i should buy Silver again after 13 years of MBP 13 2010 unibody. I would say silver looks clean, but new Black scheme looks a bit more PRO imo.
I love the color of the space black M3. I really wanted to get one but I purchased the Space Gray M2 Pro 14'' when it first released last year. I was a bit bummed when I purchased the M2 Pro and then not even a year later the M3 released. Anyways, great review.

Hi, great video. I would like to ask about overheating when you editing. Because I have Macbook Air M1 and when I'm editing like 4K HDR footage the Macbook is super hot and now I'm looking for a new one.
As for gaming: Yes, there is a small collection of games (I'm talking AAA games) that run natively. But there are workarounds, main one being GPTK2 making it possible to play windows games without much more changes. There are many others that honestly aren't that difficult to do. Some folks are running games like CyberPunk on M1 MB Air while of course isn't ideal but actually playable which goes to show. Games you mentioned also working with some tweaks. There are other known tools that help make windows games work on mac with a minor performance penalty. Apple seems to be forcusing on convincing developers to build for the platform than pushing the GPTK onto consumers which kinda makes sense in the long run
I personally don’t get why people like the silver versions, to me personally they look instantly outdated, reminds me of near every other MacBook. Space black was a great thing, i no its just an exterior colour, but in my personal opinion it looks far more premium and new.
Everything you said about the previous M-chip models not going down in price (or for your budget), I went through the same thing and struggled deciding. I got the same model you have, but the 16 inch version, I am pleased with the purchase (tried to make it as economical as possible, including the AppleCare price) and hope I don't regret getting it. My only gripe is how expensive the RAM was, I would have gotten more RAM but the price wasn't worth it. I do hope someday that the Pro-Line has a larger Ram with its Base model someday. Granted I am not a Video editor or an engineer , or illustrator, but I hope it'll serve me well. By the way, I'm coming from a 2015 MacBook Pro Retina.
Depends for what you will be using the laptop. If you need to multitask like crazy or use memory demanding workflows then you need 24GB, but I think in absolute majority of cases 18GB of Apple's unified memory is more than enough. whereas, processor update from M3 to M3 Pro is going to be more significant for majority of cases
World of Warcraft is native but if you don't already play... don't start :) Very nice review! I just upgraded my M1 because I wanted a 14" for travel and very happy. Not a big performance gain but even my M1 Pro was faster than I probably needed for most tasks. It's definitely easier to carry around and fits much better on a tray table when on a flight.
Often the laptop is freezing cold and I’m normally warm which makes the finger marks show up more. I wash my hands a lot it’s more of a temperature difference thing plus i have eczema so I am constantly moisturizing throughout the day.
I don’t use a lot of moisturiser on my hands and wash my hands during the day, but still have a lot of fingerprints on mine. I also think it’s because it’s super cold and my hands are usually warm.
Thank you for producing this video coz im actually looking forward to buy one (macbook pro 14 m3 pro) . I want to switch from my medium-high spec windows pc to mbp for the first time. As a content creator did you consider upgrading the M3 Pro from 18 to 36gb unified memory, as I have found the 16gb memory on my M1 Pro to cause Final Cut Pro to lag sometimes?
I guess it depends on how big and complex your projects are. Mine are fairly simple slicing and layering plus some color grading and some transitions/animations sometimes. I never find I run out of ram honestly plus you have to remember now there is dynamic caching so GPU performance when rendering out your video is more efficient as it doesn’t waste any memory. I mentioned it a bit in my first impressions but honestly I didn’t feel like I needed anymore than 18GB. If you have the cash to splash or larger productions then you’ve answered the question yourself get the 36GB. Maybe someone else will weigh in on it.
I have the same exact machine. I actually ordered the 36 GB, but after watching a couple of videos that torture tested M1 PROS with 16 VS 32, it amazed me how well the 16 held up. In the end I opted to go with the 12/18/18 RAM/1TB SSD. I have yet to regret my decision. I’ve done some simple video editing and multilayer photo editing and it handles it fine. Prior I had the 16” M1 Max 10/24/32 configuration ( wanted a 14”) and I ran the Affinity 2 benchmark on that and the M3 and the M3 Pro outperformed it in single core, multi core and metal benchmarks. I saw similar results elsewhere. The M3 Pro doesn’t render video as quick as my M1 Max(bandwidth), but that wasn’t a priority. Hope that added to the conversation. Good luck in your decision!
@@MattRobbThanks for your advice, I’m thinking of switching my 16 inch M1 Pro to the 14 inch m3 pro as it’s much easier to carry around and will give me a bit more power to edit videos more quickly with the slightly extra ram and more efficient chip and regardless of the fewer performance cores as it still seems to perform better than M1 Pro.
@@jimtipton8888 I’ve got the M1 Pro 16 inch MacBook Pro but finding the size too big. Want to switch to 14 inch m3 pro but the lack of major upgrades and less performance cores is holding me back. Do you find it to be slower than m1 series and got any advice whether I should ‘upgrade’?
@@thezainmirza I think you will find the M3 to be faster! I did bench marks via Affinity Photo 2's built in benchmark tool and my 10/18/18 M3 out performed my M1 Max 10/24/32 in single, double, and metal benchmarks. The only thing I've noticed slower is the video/photo render speed (2 decoders vs. one and narrower band width) I knew that going in and was ok with it. Going from a Pro to a Pro you might not even notice that. It was a good move for me. I love the 14" size and the space black is awesome! No regrets! if I were you I wouldn't hesitate making that upgrade.
I personally haven’t had any issues with the 18 GB model. I do a a lot of video editing and photo editing and some programming. Often I’m editing big projects and using multiple programs at once and haven’t maxed out the RAM yet

Gaming on the Mac is not that difficult. If you use things Wine or Crossover or any of other programs that allow gaming on Mac, it's rather easy to set everything up
I’ve tried them all and it’s very trial and error. Wine doesn’t work with call of duty which sucks due to anti cheat software not being compatible on Mac.
@@MattRobb i recommend silver. it hides even scuffs. there was a big scuff on one of my other silver aluminum laptops and didnt notice it till months later and i was never able to see it again because it only showed in the right light. it hides scratches very well
I’ve got the 11 core one. And I could have a little more performance. It’s good but wish I got more out of it. There’s two pro models. And the 12 core is where it’s at I think. But it’s $500 more and I could justify it. But in hindsight the 11 core is too slow. Especially the gpu
You can charge it with a phone charger and a usb c cable so you could buy any length charger. The included brick comes with an extension cable so it gets pretty long honestly. Not sure exactly
Don't worry about gaming. Just get a PS5 and game on your phone. Game on the PS5 when your workday is over or weekends, and game on your phone during work breaks. The M2 Pro and M3 Pro MacBook Pro are great for professional content creators (photo/video editors).

Wich ssd ? 500 or 1000 is the speed different ?

@@cashflow24-7I'm aware of that. Not yet. Just like M1 when it first came out. Thunderbolt is reserved for Intel and M chip. You're not telling anything new here.
Any advice?
Does anyone of you got the 16 inch model and can share theire experience?
Same I'm not sure if the 14" version is gonna be good enough given the small screen
@@gh0stamv This is exactly my concern
Going to get this exact model. I have the early 2015 MacBook Pro with intel and think this would be a great upgrade. Also, do you shut down your computer every time you are done using it?
Honestly I rarely shutter down I just close the lid. I’ll maybe reboot it or shut it down once a week. But it’s definitely a mighty upgrade from the 2015 model. Wish I could see your reaction to the difference in battery life 🤯
@@MattRobb I'm planning also to upgrade from 2017 MacBook Pro with Intel to M3, cant wait the mighty upgrade haha
My 2015 Macbook pro literally dies within 3-4 hours depending on usage which is crazy so I always keep it plugged in and yes I am excited!@@MattRobb
@Matt - Have you noticed the lid getting stuck and getting hard to open after not using the pro for a few days?
I’ve noticed it on my dads because he only opens it like once every two months 🤣. I wouldn’t worry unless it’s a frequent occurrence
@@MattRobb I see it I if don't open for 4-5 days. But not when I use everyday. Someone said its because of humidity 😅
Can you please tell me how much fingerprints remain? And which is better to take space black or silver?
It gets a lot of fingerprints and scratches you so need to be careful and clean it a lot. Take off metal watch straps or bracelets when typing.
Ordered a M3 pro SpaceBlack.. not sure if i should buy Silver again after 13 years of MBP 13 2010 unibody. I would say silver looks clean, but new Black scheme looks a bit more PRO imo.
How’re you liking it?
R u liking black or silver?
I love the color of the space black M3. I really wanted to get one but I purchased the Space Gray M2 Pro 14'' when it first released last year. I was a bit bummed when I purchased the M2 Pro and then not even a year later the M3 released. Anyways, great review.
Do you find no problems with 18GB, I am thinking same spec but torn with the thought I should maybe get the 36
I frequently edit large projects in Final Cut Pro and normally have a few on the go at once plus photoshop , Lightroom and my browser are usually open
@@MattRobb thanks Matt
@@MattRobb ordered decided against the 32gb so saved £400
@philipgilligan_art For me it’s enough and I do a lot of multitasking so hopefully you get on okay. Let me know what you think when you get it
@@MattRobb some music production 4or 5 tracks max, some photo editing 40mp images and also 4k video editing in davinci……. Gutted I was 10 minutes too late to get delivery tomorrow, got to wait until tuesday now ha……. Thanks buddy i,ll let you know how i find it…… traded a m1 pro in for it
Could you please tell me should I use screen protector for my MacBook m3 pro? I mean does it really help to protect screen? Please lmk 🙏🏻
Lovely video Matt. Really enjoyed. I’ll see what they do with the October event and decide which one to buy! Thanks
I personally don’t get why people like the silver versions, to me personally they look instantly outdated, reminds me of near every other MacBook. Space black was a great thing, i no its just an exterior colour, but in my personal opinion it looks far more premium and new.
It does look more premium for sure but you’re right the silver looks old school and I think I that’s why people like it.
@@MattRobbis this portable enough or better to get 15” m3 air?
@@bhawanigurung9913This is the most portable laptop I’ve ever used
Because people like different things.
Black colour get scratches very easily and has really an issue with the black colour
Hi, can you share how much memory does your version has? is it 18GB or 36GB. Thanks!
Based on his previous comments, I believe it's 18
Yes it's 18GB I did mention in the video actually
@@MattRobb Thanks for confirming! I may have missed it
Everything you said about the previous M-chip models not going down in price (or for your budget), I went through the same thing and struggled deciding.
It should serve you well and yeah I had the same dilemma about the RAM honestly
Do you think for the same price it’s better to get the M3 24GB RAM or M3 Pro 18GB?
Depends for what you will be using the laptop. If you need to multitask like crazy or use memory demanding workflows then you need 24GB, but I think in absolute majority of cases 18GB of Apple's unified memory is more than enough. whereas, processor update from M3 to M3 Pro is going to be more significant for majority of cases
is it worth it to get the pro just to the 120 hertz and the display? i am not a pro user either and i will just use it to watch content
Is it the 18gb or 36gb?
What’s the answer then ?
18Gb like I said in the video 😅
World of Warcraft is native but if you don't already play... don't start :) Very nice review! I just upgraded my M1 because I wanted a 14" for travel and very happy. Not a big performance gain but even my M1 Pro was faster than I probably needed for most tasks. It's definitely easier to carry around and fits much better on a tray table when on a flight.
Mine doesn’t get a lot of fingerprints. I think you just need to wash your hands more bro.
Need to do research more thoroughly especially on the environment and compatibility.
I was a hardcore gamer but no more since last 2 years. Now more focus on my professional work. I do digital works, web / graphic designs, bit of video editing too. Other than that just multitasking.
If you could advise for my case?
If you don’t game then definitely this laptop is amazing for digital content creation I use it myself for all my work and it never has let me down yet
Great video, Thank you! What about fan noise with cpu-intensive tasks? is it very anoying?
hi matt. which m4 macbook pro would you recommend for content creators?
Honestly M4 Pro 1TB SSD 32GB RAM
I have 8 years old macbook pro and thinking of buying M3 silver. I think it will be massive upgrade hahaha.
It definitely is a great upgrade you'll love it!
Black for fingerprints, m4 same speed as m3 pro, scary fast? Same as m2 pro
coming from a 2019 dell xps 13 - I just got the same model here, m3 pro 14 - 12cpu, 18gpu, 16n with 18gb ram and 1tb - open box - the person literally used it for TWO days. instead of $2648.90 (10.25% cali - LA county tax), i paid $580.42 less = $2,068.48 otd

Coming from a macbook air i7 from almost 10 yrs ago, just got my 14 pro in the mail today! Looking forward to 0 beach balling from my spreadsheet work every time 😂. A welcome upgrade for sure. Went with space black bc like many have posted before..I got tired of looking at silver for almost 24 yes. I had the g4 Tibook, now i7 mb air silver. Just wanted something different color.
The beach balling was probably due to mechanical hdd
Great review! Do you experience any lag on your playback when you're editing? Specially when you put effects, text animations and color grades?
got the m3 pro too. and its awesome never had a better one. And windows laptops there is always something the screen is bad the audio sucks. my last on was a hp elite book i7. terrible battery life terrible screen and the speakers suck and that for the same priced as the MBP. im in love again. keep up the good work and I wish you the best
Where can we find the background image? Thank you!
M3 max here. Running Cyberpunk 2077 40 to 50 fps using Crossover. Death Stranding is native and runs 60 plus fps depending on the settings .
I have a PS5 for gaming
I am in the second year of university studying computer science and engineering. I am going to start specialization in AI and Machine Learning from the third year. I am confused between a M3 Pro 14in MacBook Pro with (11C CPU and 12C GPU) OR with M2 Pro to purchase. Which one would you suggest? Thanks!
Hey , which one did you choose?
@@InmymindImalwaysthebest M3Pro MacBook Pro 14.2 inch.
@blabla3487 heard that there might be some problems with using macos for machine learning , did face any?
I'm a first year CS student and it would be great help!
@InmymindImalwaysthebest Most people in my machine learning classes used a Mac including the lecturer so I think you’ll be fine
@@MattRobbThank You! , Can you also recommend the best For that?
hoq muxh ram do you have on the MacBook pro M3 pro?
I am thinking of getting the 14 inch M3 Pro model, however I am still a bit unsure over it if I am being honest as I have always used windows laptops and desktops. My friend laughs at me when I say I'm thinking of getting this, as for the same price you would be looking at intel i9 territory. Anybody got any more advice?
I would say don’t let your friends sway your opinion. What are you aiming to do with the laptop?
@@MattRobb I do a lot of 3D Modelling on Blender a lot of the time, however when I am not doing that I am usually just doing light work on Microsoft office apps or a bit of gaming. Ideally I'd want a Laptop that is powerful to do all of those things comfortably without any compromises which is exactly why I was looking at this and watched this video.
Battery life is ok? I’d heard it was poor.
do you notice any scuffs or scratches after 3months of use ? At least near Mac Safe area...discolouration?
No I don’t have any marks near my magsafe port or any of my ports so far. I’ve seen people with the midnight air with scratches around their ports so I hope it doesn’t happen with space black
Let me ask you one more think...Saw you praise silver in this video ? Why still go for space black ? Planning to change it next year ?@@MattRobb
@ananthkrish2634 Honestly just because it’s a bit different and ive always loved midnight so wanted to try out the space black. Also as a content creator I can show off a new color to my audience.
okay, do you think it will face any discolouration or scuffs in the long run based on your usage ? and do you have any plans to switch ur laptop in next 2 years ? @@MattRobb
Do you stream on it? Or do u use iPad for that
Little bit of both but battery life is insane streaming content you could literally stream all day
hi bro MacBook pro m3 18 unified memory 512ssd is enough for 4k editing pls advice
Can you help me with your opinion ? I can buy an used M1 Max 16 inch(95% battery) or a M3 pro 14 inch new, both having the same price . What do you think is the best value ? ( general user)
m1 has enough power to keep up, pick based off portability
how many unified memory does the m1 mac have?
@@nothinginteresting1833 ended up buying an M1 Pro 16 (98%)battery for 1200$
How much ram did you get?
I got the same with 36.. it's a beast..
@@tudy2006 nice! how many tb?
@@JustineCooksVegan i got the 1TB 36 gb ram. it's a second hand from apple but this thing is brand new and is like 800 euros cheaper so for me it was a no brainer. check the apple second hand market , they have some pretty sweet deals and the waranty is exactly the same as new ones.
An Excellent Review! ❤
Does the ports scratch up??
A little bit but not too bad its mainly okay on most of mine
Still can’t decide which one goin to pick a macbook pro m3 or asus rog strix
If you game frequently then you've answered your own question get the strix. If you are a creator or into productivity then go for the Mac.
How much RAM does it have?
hey, there's a new myos 14 android 14 on the nubia z50 can you review the update and tutorial how to override the system launcher?
Super good video, btw what is d game controller u using in d gaming scenes?Any low latency controller 4 macbook pro & iphone 15 pro?
Honestly just a regular PS4 controller works great on iOS devices and Mac there's no noticeable delay when playing games
@@MattRobb Thanks 4 replying ❤️
Great video! I’m thinking of getting that exact same one. Thanks..
Nice Matt…great video to the point. Ordered one this evening! Will replace an aging Intel i5 (2012)…I’m ready for the shock 😅 Be safe.. Cheers..
How is your experience on scratches?
If you wear a watch with a metal strap while typing it scratches the color off the edges
Great video. What was the laptop you had before the M3?
I had an intel i7 MacBook Pro 2018 and an M1 Mac mini which is what I edited on.
Hmmm looking to get my first macbook looking at the same specs as you
Do you recommend 18 or 36GB?
I personally haven’t had any issues with the 18 GB model. I do a a lot of video editing and photo editing and some programming. Often I’m editing big projects and using multiple programs at once and haven’t maxed out the RAM yet
what is the RAM ? of this pro model
18GB
I want to buy a mac 3 pro and use it for motion graphics like after effects, Is it good for it?
I have the same exact model 12 core cpu 18 core gpu but I am going to use it for school and I am going for information technology and I will be running virtual machines ofc and I needed to know about the ram usage and how bad ram gets used because I will be running virtual machines
4:48 You have a Spaceblack iPhone?
Yes?
@@MattRobb is it a default color from Apple? All I see from their website are Natural, Blue, White and Black Titanium.
@jdiestro09 my bad last years 14 pro was space black. This years is black titanium you’re right but it looks the same color as last years minus the titanium frame, also matches the Space Black MacBook
@@MattRobb whew! I thought I missed out on a 15 Pro Spaceblack! Haha! Colors are really nice bro. I also like the black aesthetics with my ecosystem
I forgot that i bought the m2 pro and a month later the m3pro was released 😢
Gaming on the Mac is not that difficult. If you use things Wine or Crossover or any of other programs that allow gaming on Mac, it's rather easy to set everything up
I’ve tried them all and it’s very trial and error. Wine doesn’t work with call of duty which sucks due to anti cheat software not being compatible on Mac.
Great review! loving that wallpaper too!
hello, is your nubia z50 has android 14?
No android 13 it doesn’t have android 14

what about scratches on space black
It does scratch easily ngl. I wore the milanese loop Apple Watch while typing and using this laptop and its scratched the color off on the edge.
@@MattRobb i recommend silver. it hides even scuffs. there was a big scuff on one of my other silver aluminum laptops and didnt notice it till months later and i was never able to see it again because it only showed in the right light. it hides scratches very well
Yes I agree silver hides those imperfections so much better
use crossover it can run games very good
I’ve got the 11 core one. And I could have a little more performance. It’s good but wish I got more out of it. There’s two pro models. And the 12 core is where it’s at I think. But it’s $500 more and I could justify it. But in hindsight the 11 core is too slow. Especially the gpu
I got the 12 core because I needed the extra SSD and it was the same price to upgrade just the storage
Many people say macbook lasts for years is it true does this laptop last for atleast 8years
Great review, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed !!!
Sounds to be the right laptop to go for
Thinking of switching from windows to mac. But if you are a content creator, wouldnt you like the 16". The resolution is higher.
True but honestly portability is more important to me. I can always connect a 4k monitor when I’m in my office
@MattRobb gotcha!! So I was thinking about ditching my HP laptop. How long is the power supply cable for the mac?
You can charge it with a phone charger and a usb c cable so you could buy any length charger. The included brick comes with an extension cable so it gets pretty long honestly. Not sure exactly
@MattRobb okay, sweet, good to know. Still getting some info. I'd like switch, but not sure...2k bucks is a lot...
@MattRobb how does it charge if it is not in the magsafe port? It can charge from Type C to Type C?
Don't worry about gaming. Just get a PS5 and game on your phone. Game on the PS5 when your workday is over or weekends, and game on your phone during work breaks.
The M2 Pro and M3 Pro MacBook Pro are great for professional content creators (photo/video editors).
well if you're already in work industry probably didn't even have time to play game 😂 i used to be gamer but now i wish i gotten a MacBook best for work life laptop
@nothinginteresting1833 Well depends on the software the company runs. SolidWorks doesn't run on MacOS. Neither does Power Bi.
