- From an old film describing a visit to a tribe on Borneo. Details are not given.A Melattan tribe cannot be traced. Is this a Dayak or Iban tribe and on which part of the part Indonesian, part Malaysian island Kalimantan? A Bidayuh tribe viewer adds:
"I know this place,Petag is actually located at Padawan Sarawak, not so far from where my village is,this is actually a Bidayuh tribe"

Ancient? It was only a hundred years ago
@@bonafidehater692ya it was only 100 yrs ago but also we are lucky enough to see it.
@@bonafidehater692 tbh 100 years ago is long enough the next 100 years from now this video becomes ancient in itself
My father explored Borneo and Indonesia a hundred years ago. See his photos by searching with 'michael rogge indonesia; He liked the people as much as you do!
Thanks you for sharing this video. I love watching documentary videos and movies. I so excited while watching this video
If you have lived long enough and past the mark of 40s you know for a fact 100 years ago isn't that long ago...yet so much has changed
Wow thanks sir, come visit my country again
Maybe your father knew the Norwegian explorer Carl Lumholz, he stayed in Borneo from 1913 to 1917. He recorded a film I have still not found a copy of.
Thank you for uploading! I’m an Iban trying to find our lost identity and culture.

I'm so glad you are visiting our country years ago Mr. this is like a hidden gem
I been in that part of Borneo and had a small adventure crossing the river at Samarinda on the way to Balikpapan. Seeing this movie brought back some pleasant memories for me.

It is believed that Nagas of India, Kachins of Myanmar, Igorate of Phillipines and Borneos of Indonesia were all Hung-Haos of ancient china who migrated to to different part of Asia. We see similar physical features, cultural dresses and dances even wrestling.
Dayak is a general term in Borneo, both in Sabah and Sarawak but its more relevant in Sarawak since they use it directly to many tribes and races there. The Ibans are Dayak. Kelabit ppl can be considered Dayak. And the Dusunic ppls in Sabah (there are many branches of them) can be considered Dayak as well. I guess if we need to trace this particular tribe, we have to revisit the site and ask around or ask other ppl who know the area🤔
This video belong to Kayan Tribes.. Kayan mahakam@bahau
Omg this is my brethren, all of new generation of dayak only heard stories of the old days. With passage of time, I'm afraid that future dayaks generation won't remember their ancestors struggle. Glad that you have bits of our history sir.
Impressive. The quality of this film was so good
I remember back in the day where this was a thing, time sure does fly,,
I know this place,Petag is actually located at Padawan Sarawak, not so far from where my village is,this is actually a Bidayuh tribe..and i am Bidayuh as well..🤗
Thanks very much. I'll add your details to the description.
in the video clip there is weaving. Bidayuhs do not have cloth weaving except for the Iban. The orang ulu people also do not have weaving. Is it possible that the one in the clip is one of the Iban tribes

Wow a tribe very far away from India, but everything they do exactly matches with the Naga tribes of Northeast India. Headhunting, weaving, wrestling, housing, war gears etc.

hi! malaysian here 🇲🇾 would like to know di you work in SEA back then?
I am from Borneo and I loved this.Thank you
You're wondering what tribe this is? Based on the dance, the costumes and the instruments, I am positive they are the Orang Ulu - that's what they're called in Sarawak at least. But Orang Ulu itself is a collective name for several similar tribes - Kayan, Kenyah, Lunbawang etc.
"The appellation Orang Ulu, literally “people of the headwaters”, takes the
process of distancing a stage further. In Sarawak, Orang Ulu are again
classified by what they are not: they are Dayak communities which are not
Iban or Bidayuh, the two largest Dayak ethnic communities. As the name
suggests, the Orang Ulu were, and to some extent still are, located on the
peripheries of State power. Often regarded as the original inhabitants of
Sarawak, they are valued as both a romantic image of former resistance to
colonial control and a source of tourist dollars, but, because of their poverty
and resistance to logging, they are an embarrassment for a modernizing State."

Thank you for the precious footage and giving us a glimpse of how was life like in the last century. As a Malaysian himself, I am in awe with your historical videos. Bravo with the job well-done! 👍👍
im a bidayuh...and i dont think this is bidayuh eventho the lack of accessories in their dressing, the shape of their shield and makin of same tribal textile known as 'puak kumbu' in bidayuh are similar to us..if the iban ,they will have more accessories on their clothing and lots of them will have tattoo and they dont have heavy earing. I think this is still in the range of indonesian...the video said the steam ship travel to inner land by river for 9 days..theres no river connnection betweeen samarindah to any of bidayuh area..
and..petag village in sarawak are located high in the mountain..they dont have any big river around their area.
