    The best way to dry a screen is to leave it alone in a dust free area to dry naturally. Exposures vary greatly based on many variables so you have to do some testing to get your times. I do 45 lip halftones on 200 and 230 mesh. A CMYK image at 65 lpi may be done on a 305 or 355. Those are generalizations to try to help you. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

      CatspitProductions how can I remove unexposed emulsion if I don't have a pressurized washer or sprayer

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  6 лет назад +1

      That could prove to be difficult. Maybe you could go to a car wash with the spray gun drive in stalls. The pressure washer usually does at least half the work. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

    Nice, thanks for sharing. I use one of those splitter valves in the shop. I split the incoming water in the shop to the pressure washer and then to a garden hose. It’s very handy. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    Hard to say from here but yes it could be underexposure. Post expose your screens and if it still happens perhaps it’s just drying on the screen some. You can probably clean it off really well with a water based screen opener. Check out CatspitScreenPrintSupply online for just that in a RhinoTech product. you said nothing about pre soak ... before washing out

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  5 лет назад +1

      That's because I do not recommend pre-soaking a screen in any kind of tank of water. That should be unnecessary. Simply wet the screen down on both sides. You can wait a moment before proceeding to washout in order to let the emulsion soften some but you can also proceed to washout and the emulsion will soften as you're rinsing. Thanks for watching! Hey what caused the screen to clog up after washing out a screen? The water drys up and leaves a clear block out.

    after washing out stencil and drying i will experience parts of stencil with a film over it. Now ink will not pass thru. is the best way to dry stencil is with dabbing paper towel over image then blow drying OR is there a chemical i should be washing stencil out so rid of the leftover haze that clogs the screen???? thank you and dig your vids!

    • @1stappearance898
      @1stappearance898 8 лет назад

      I have researched and found that you use a newspaper first, lay flat then peel off, then let dry for 30 minutes before printing. THIS WILL ELIMINATE THE DIAZO. TRUE??

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 лет назад

      +1st Appearance NO, do not use newspaper. The ink and paper fibers can stick to the emulsion and really mess things up. What you are seeing is underexposed emulsion scum that dries in the stencil clogging it. You need to watch this video about clearing out the stencil after washout;
      ruclips.net/video/skiwJTfxgsA/видео.html

    hey catspit, what if you have a wash out booth but no drainage built in your workspace?

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  11 лет назад

    You're welcome. Yes, you could if you can manage it. I don’t think the emulsion is toxic at all. I mean you don’t want to eat it but it will not hurt you by touching it. The biggest concern in working inside in your bathroom drains is clogging. But if you’re printing on a small hobby scale then I probably wouldn’t worry about it much. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  13 лет назад

    @kevlowriderking21 I have actually been there. You can either use a bucket under the sink where it drains and empty it by hand when needed or you could use some swimming pool hose and run it from the sink drain to a floor drain or an outside drain. I suppose it all depends on your situation what you can do. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    @nattyjeff That is a little bit of filming left behind by under exposed emulsion most often on the ink well side of the screen. You can try to increase your exposure time to correct this or you can very gently blow the stencil clean of water after washout with compressed air. But if the emulsion is underexposed, you need to use very low air pressure, just enough to get the water out of the mesh before it dries up. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  13 лет назад

    @BiRd8984 It sounds like an ecofriendly solvent for inks. Many new environmentally safe screenprinting chemicals use soy based ingredients. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

  • @CatspitProductions

    LOL... :) Yes you could. It should fit a standard garden hose too. Make sure you connect to the cold side of the hook up. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  13 лет назад

    @drepesoz Thank you, I appreciate your support. I’m not sure I use a photopolymer. Maybe it’s a slight staining from the emulsion? Maybe the photographic process is yellowing the mesh a bit. As long as it prints well I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    I appreciate the videos. Been watching them since I started building a screen print shop (it's a nightmare, for any beginners with no experience yet and thinking of starting). Stressed, but still pressing on. Been having a hard time getting the screens clean enough, even with de-emulsifier chems. Learning from a big mistake right now, having contaminated our screens with de-emulsifier before putting a fresh coat of emulsion, so the emulsion naturally turns to goop, but residue still remains and will not wash off even after dipping or scrubbing. (Having issues with our power washer at the moment so that's not an option until that gets fixed). Not really a question more than sharing information about my own personal experience. Again, thanks for the videos.

    Is it important to wash out in a light safe area? Im confused by all the videos because they seem to be conflicting.

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 лет назад

      +Hiro Cooper Mine should not be conflicting for you. Check out my over 400 screen printing videos. But yes, you will want to work with unexposed emulsion in red or yellow light. OR any subdued light or shade is fine as well. Shaded light is blue so it won't cure emulsion much if at all. But it's just as easy to get a yellow light bulb from Home depot. As far as washing out the stencil goes, once the emulsion is wet you can turn on the back light. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

    When we wash out our screens the stencil is completely visible and clear but then 5 minutes later it fades away. Any thoughts?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  4 года назад

      If the artwork becomes visible as a latent image when you wet the screen and then disappears there is something wrong with either your exposure or emulsion. Be sure your emulsion is still light sensitive. Dual cure emulsions do not last that long. Perhaps you're over exposing. Hard to say without seeing what is going on there. Thanks for watching! That's exactly what I do. Hook up a y-connect with shutoff valves to your cold water supply for your washing. machine. Then connect your cold water supply hose to washing machine and another hose for washing out to that. With the shutoff valves on the y-valve you can easily turn off the water to your hose while keeping it going to your washing machine.

      Thanks, that helps! I want to print on Silk with H.Dupont, which is a water-soluble steam-fix dye, and the one thing that gets the very last of it isn't any soap/cleaner but the in-series paint thinner… Beyond that, lots and lots of water do the trick, so I'll go with water before breaking out the thinner.

    I have a question and i cant find any advice on it anywhere on the internet. Whenever i clean a waterbased screen there usually 9 times out of 10 depending on the color, leaves a tint of whichever color im using at that time and I can usually get 90% of that color out except for the tint of that color. Is this bad? Am I not cleaning it correctly? Are the people making my screens not exposing it enough?
    Any Advice would be greatly appreciated

    I am having trouble with my screens. We have tried using degreaser and not using degreaser, but when we expose our screens, dry them out etc we are noticing a nearly invisible residue that ink cannot pass through. Do you know what the problem could be?

      Yes. Sounds like under exposed emulsion scum. You're probably using a fluorescent UV bulb exposure unit or maybe something less. Check out this video for information on this:

    How long does it take for your screen to dry after you've already exposed your screen? Anything to use to speed up the process? Currently using my special UV light because I heard it helps the drying process and also hardens the emulsion more.

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 лет назад

      It might take 30 min. or so. A UV light will not help the emulsion dry and it will not cure the emulsion while it's wet. Only photopolymer emulsions can be post cured with a UV light source. If you need to speed up the drying time after the stencil is washed out just put the screen outside in the sun or put a fan on it.Thanks for watching.
