"They waited really long to fire those" I find Hollywood consistently overestimates how long the military will wait before using lethal force. Hint for civilians, it isn't long enough to ask for a manager.
What makes you think civilians didn't get that message when killing a whole bunch of them regularly is punished with a mere slap on the wrist and the families of the victims can count themselves lucky if they get a reaction at all, even if it's just a big fat "Up yours!"? When punishments, if they occur at all, are regularly based only on a violation of internal formalities but not on the fact that someone was effing killed? When tampering with evidence and lying to cover up such killings become official policy up to the highest levels? Or the fact that the crew of an AC-130 considers checking a no-strike list an unjustifiable hassle? Believe me, it's crystal-clear that civilians are considered cattle, livestock that should be thankful for every breath they are allowed to draw and ensure that they are not in the way of any member of the military or risk being eradicated - even if they are just tourists in a cable car who couldn't move out of the way of a pilot ignoring any and all regulations of a hosting country if they wanted to. Certainly an attitude to be proud of!
@@ohauss Most people aren't aware of those things. Hate to be that guy but being an active duty member sometimes I find myself not being able to not be a know it all but all missiles are guided different missile just utilize different guidance systems. Hence the reason the stinger missiles were offset by the flares whereas the amraam wasn’t. so in reallife the movie would've been called "AC-130 Has Fallen (20 miles away)", would be a 2 minutes short film and every role played by Leslie Nielsen.
Kinda happens all the time over Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua and Mexico. The narcos have been mounting RPG's and manpads to civilian planes for years, of course they usually mount them on the outside. Hell the Sinaloa practically have a legit air force by this point. I know for a fact they have at least two armed T-38's flying escort for their mules. They haven't successfully shot down any aircraft yet, at least not from the air.
They’re mostly in suburban neighbourhoods far from the actual building, some on rooftops like here, but there’s no Transformers-grade hidey-holes that they’re popping out of www.thesun.co.uk/news/10441022/white-house-secret-missile-launcher-alert/amp/
Intercepted yes, but one thing to consider, and it's something I imagine they were going for, was that the interceptors may have been thinking that this was some idiot who has a bad radio and/or transponder, and were likely going to shoot once he got close to the Potomac (since it would likely land in the water, minimizing the risk to civilians), but it dropped the disguise before they could do so. That being said, there should've been another interceptor behind the aircraft ready to shoot, that I will agree with. However, I think the reality of an airspace intrusion like that, might not be the same as what's been practiced or put in place as policy. After all, no sane human *wants* to kill another person unless they have a damn good reason to, and risking casualties on the ground, is not something any intercepting pilot wants to do either.

Ha! I didn't even think of it when I saw it the first time, but when he said that and then showed the monument falling ... it was like I was watching the 1st tower fall all over again. I'm certain they modeled that monument falling on the 1st tower falling.
I actually though of doing that with a cardboard cutout of one on a mock intercept flight, just with an AK, not an RPG. You know, score the only simulated air to air kill for a Cessna 182.
I love how every time some missile is shot against the AC-103 the pilot knows it instantly and then launches the flares. Perhaps the closest character to omniscience portrayed in a movie.
In most modern fighters, you can hear if someone has radar lock on you (you'll hear some beeping sound in your helmet). Same thing when someone fires a radar-guided missile like an AMRAAM. The SAMs used here are also probably radar-guided. But for heat-seaking missiles, nope, you won't hear a thing. DISCLAIMER: I'm not an expert. I just read too much.
@@CaptainSisig No they are not radar guided. They are laser around DC. There is a room with men that only have the job of identifying close air craft. They would then 'paint' the aircraft with a laser. Those missiles wont be affected by chaff or flares.
@jweltsch22 I always thought stealth is for radar only. Didn't it can work against lasers too. When you say computer recognition guided, you mean those missiles with cameras right? Like the AGM-65?

Family friend just left the Secret Service. His opinion on this film, after he stopped laughing, was that those terrorists would have been piles of bloody scraps inside 10 minutes. From other sources - the White House has had SAMs for decades.
That was my take as well. I'd bet good money that there are several Patriot batteries somewhere near the White House. Also, that fancy Phalanx like turret the terrorists used near the end would have been handy when the guys who built it were under air attack...must my $.02
I have one thing to say: if you’re gonna try to depict a massive air assault, invest in better CGI. The CGI on the anti air defenses and the aircraft sucks.
I was a crew chief on H Model Specters when they came home from Viet Nam. The 20mm gatling guns were rigid mounted and not steerable. They were not retractable and they also were only on the left side. They were aimed by the pilot looking through a gunsight mounted on his/her left side. The 40mm and 105mm were on steerable mounts. They were aimed by a crew in a booth in the cargo bay. Nothing shot out of the right side except flares. The only purpose for the guns on the right side in the movie seems to be to shoot down the F-22. Plot device. The current gunships have a different weapon's suite and don't use the 20mm anymore. The movie aircraft is not Air Force issue. Someone custom built it for this attack. I can see the 22mms being retractable so IMO it would have made more sense to have it painted up like a conventional cargo C-130. Then it is operated as a "Q-Ship." I'd have to do some measuring of the cargo bay and the guns to see if there is enough room to retract them. Of course for this operation the barrels could have been shortened as they are operating at close range. Steering the guns to aim them is an issue that also caught my attention in the movie. When the aircraft is flying straight and level directly overhead of the city streets its guns are shooting straight down. This happens several times. The guns are firing at angles that are not physically possible for where they are mounted. As Mr. Lemoine also pointed out, who is aiming the guns? The pilots are mostly looking straight ahead and there is no side mounted gunsight. There are no sensors mounted in the crew door or landing gear pod as in a true AC-130. Maybe they had some system on the gun mounts that fed back to a fire control booth??? This is a custom job after all. The last bit that made me laugh was the sound the plane made as it crashed. The engine/prop noise does not sound like any turbo-prop I ever heard. I could be mistaken but it didn't sound right. I enjoyed the movie but sometimes my WTF meter went off scale.
@America I don't have the specs on them but the new gunships have replaced the 200mms with a 25mm that is on a steerable mount. The fire control team in the center of the aircraft would operate that as they do the 40mm and the 105mm. The pilot no longer aims any of the weapons.
Yeah the plane tumbling down sounded like metal bending under stress, like you should have seen the whole plane snap in half or something. Definitely didn't fit the visual **cringing**
I was one of the Engineers on the AC130U design back in the late 80s early 90s. We brought in some of the Vietnam era Gunship designers as Consultants. Those guys had great stories of BDA as they were building the Hs in the field. (We got to see later BDA of AC130Hs pounding Panama) Anyway the AC130U has trainable gun mounts for the 25mm, 40mm, and 105mm. The pilot still has a side mounted HUD for backup but the primary Fire Control was handled by the FCO and Sensor operators in back. Not sure of the later W model.
Worked as an EW specialist on the U and got to help tear parts out of the last H before it went to the air park on base. Like you guys said, all of the guns on the left. 20mms were static on the H. The 25mm on the U is trainable, but not as crazy as this plane. The feeding systems would be way too large for the guns to retract like that, especially if they were on both sides. Like you guys said, no visible sensors for aiming the guns. As an EW guy, I cringed over the flares. As was said, the switch is not mounted up top. A burst of flares that long probably would've melted the buckets (also, chaff would've probably dispensed in addition to the flares). The missiles probably wouldn't explode upon contact with the flares. The later missile that took down the plane would've had to deal with chaff which IS effective against missiles that rely on radar. And assuming that the plane is indeed an H model (based on the twin miniguns), there is more than just flares for countermeasures.
That's correct of the ac130 I saw and I don't see the 105 or the twin barrel bang-bang either. The navigation office does the targeting He has lots of equipment to accomplish the target acquisition
Okay then. I was one of the Engineers (mostly the fire control for the guns) who designed the AC130U. This is silly. The whole concept of a fixed wing gunship is increased accuracy from circling and firing out 1 side. Kind of like a traveling artilary platform BTW The gatling gun is mostly antipersonel to take a building they would probably pound it with 40mm and 105mm.
The fact that they just kept firing at the AC with small arms always disappointed me, the guys assigned to guarding the most important man in the states not understanding basic ballistics is almost as dumb as when the Secret Service get taken down by some lightly armed terrorists.
Sometimes it work. Just like how the Vietnamese taking out several American planes using small arms weapons. They anticipate the path the plane gonna pass and they open fire creating walls of leads where the planes have no choice but to pass through it. Eventually something gonna get hit that would cause the plane to crash.
@@AlexSDU Yeah, I've never heard of that happening. Maybe it did, but it seems far more likely that they just had, you know, anti aircraft weaponry. At least they got in the requisite “destruction of famous structure or monument” that is required when you’re filming a disaster or action type movie in a famous city. It’s always the Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Washington Monument, Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, etc.. So they got that checked off the list I guess.
To be fair, while I don't know how thick the exterior of an AC-130 is, if it's anything like H-60s then small arms will still penetrate the aircraft when it's that close to the ground. Not likely to hit somebody, but there's still a chance, and those bullets will ricochet around in there too.
Actually is pretty realistic for Secret Service to shoot at an aircraft. But still, those fighters would have shot down the plane way sooner than that.

It was lacking the 40mm and 105. So I would think they stole a normal C-130 and refitted it or built one to look like one. Lot more likely to draw attention: stolen cargo plane vs attack platform or one that just was made from scratch so nothing is missing to alert people. But it's an action movie, best to turn your brain off and try to enjoy it.
My list: The AC-130 only has gatlings on one side, and as you say, where's the 105? The Stinger launch, you would ripple them at sufficient interval that they don't interfere and don't guide on each other, not simultaneously. The C-130 flare release is just a ripple to clear the dispensers; looks pretty but not a valid sequence to decoy a missile. That's also a release purely from the rear dispensers, the nose and armpit dispensers would be required against Stinger. While we're on the AC-130, it should have a HUD in the left window for the pilot to aim as he circles the target and it should have RF ECM to defeat the Fox3. Oh and the 'AAMRAM' display shows the target coming toward the Raptor, not tail-on, and that's accepting that such a display actual exists.

It was funny, but wrong. That's Cole Hauser (Carter Verone from 2 Fast 2 Furious), not Josh Lucas.
Definitely didn't fit the visual **cringing**
let's talk about shooting flares with a switch above the head...

Okay then. I was one of the Engineers (mostly the fire control for the guns) who designed the AC130U. This is silly. The whole concept of a fixed wing gunship is increased accuracy from circling and firing out 1 side. Kind of like a traveling artilary platform

@@ryanpayne9119 Of course they do, they just don't care because authenticity isn't the aim of the movie, entertainment is and for what is probably the majority of viewers, we do not care how accurate the specifics are, I mean, if I was in the market to buy a raptor I would not watch this scene from this movie and consider it a performance demonstration of the aircraft or use it to decide whether or not I like the interior of a raptors cockpit because I understand it's a Hollywood action movie an' Hollywood is the home of cars with doors that stop bullets and mundane objects that explode because they have volatile temperaments or some such. If the directors of a movie wanted things to be authentic they would outsource to an expert on the points they're looking to get right.
Having said the above, I enjoyed this movie and I enjoyed Mover's discussion on it. Have a great day, Ryan Payne.
Mitch - Datway The people who made this film didn’t ignore realism for the sake of entertainment. They ignored realism because they were ignorant and too lazy to actually research the subject they were covering.
They might as well have just had the bad guys infiltrate the White House by launching themselves over the fence in a flaming 18 wheeler and they all jump out as it explodes. That would have been no less plausible and would have probably been more entertaining to watch. While they were at it, they should have made Gerard Butler’s character a cyborg alien who kills all the bad guys with his acid piss. Because that sounds fuckin cool, and if you’re already throwing logic out the window, why not go all out?
Mover, I'd like to suggest: Patlabor 2 where the JSDF Intercepts a fighter. It's a political thriller science-fiction anime from '93, which people praised for its accurate representation of an aircraft interception, I'd like to see your comment on that.
I second this.
Hell yeah
@hangtime 7190 get bent
@@AntiNoobDefence He's right tho. Always disparage weebs wherever you find them so that they know their place.
t. another weeb
btw Patlabor's F-15SMT version was pure fire.
@@nickkorkodylas5005 but liking anime isn't about seeing japanese people as some godly race, it's about appreciating animation and storytelling (which is why I prefer stuff before 2000)
I love the part where they’re being shot at the door but the keep funneling out
"It looks cooler to put a raptor"
Not to me, it ain't. Fighting Falcon's profile is just sexy to me.
TRY F35 🤪😍
@@tori9365 Nah! That one did hit every branch on the fugly tree on the way down.. ;)
@@TachyonDriver haha noooo xD I love it
I agree with you there
Raptors do look cooler for the majority. Looks more futuristic
I love the sarcastic look you give ad you say, “another I inside job”! You are a funny guy Mover.
But what was the sarcasm denoting ? That's what I'd like to know . I understand the subject , but not sure of his implication.
@@pj7362 Because lots of eggheads think that 9/11 was an inside job.
Nyph well something weird happened that day
@@nyph933 Thing is that it is impossible for the plane to have caused the collapse of the building. The buildings fell in free fall which means that every single supporting structure failed instantly at the same time. Also WTC 7 fell as well even though it was not hit by a plane.
No. CW is a military man, so he knows that, despite everything the 'physicists, engineers and architects' will tell you they KNOW is correct, in the Real World (TM) when 'Shit Goes Down', whatever happens HAS happened. "...the reality is, no steel frame high rise has ever suffered a direct, full-speed impact by a large commercial aircraft before that day, or since."
Maybe a commercial aircraft could get close, but a military aircraft would be intercepted while in the Atlantic
When you said Harvey face I thought "Is he quoting badman?" and I was for whatever reason very pleased when you confirmed it. Love that sketch series.
NOPE, that's not the guy from Stealth: Josh Lucas.
This is Cole Hauser.
And if POTUS is Aaron Eckhart...
...where's Tomas Jane?
he'd be socom
from good will hunting
ok boomer
Tears of the Sun
He's the guy from 2 Fast 2 Furious :P And one of the antagonists in this film played the antagonist in The Fast and the Furious, so I guess they liked those films. xD
"OH, and he took out a house! ... that sucks" LOL
Mover, I’d like to suggest Red Flag: The Ultimate Game, which someone has posted in its entirety here on RUclips. Thanks for doing these. They’re a lot of fun.
seconding this. I've been asking Mover to do Red Flag for a while now. Also - Blackadder's basic flying training, just for the hell of it.
@@jakubfabisiak9810 I think Mover could learn a thing or two from Wing Commander The Lord Flashheart :D
Yeah I mentioned Red Flag as well, have the DVD. Would also like to see Black Angel and Interceptor
Oh wow, didn't know they were making AC-130's with armament on BOTH sides. Makes total sense, now that I think about it.
...Wait, no, it's just stupid.
Well, it balances the plane when they start shooting both sides at the same time. ;)
I loved this! He's not a bogey made me spit out my coffee, well done.
when i first saw the movie, this scene pissed me off so much how many things they got wrong. Not just this scene but throughout the movie
6:45 "another inside job"
that was hilarious
"another demolition, another inside job" LMAOOOOOO i died.
Executive Decision- F14 intercept scene and the emergency landing of the Boeing.
You’ve gotta do The Final Countdown! I’d love to hear your take on it!
"That's not how the Zeros fly..."

the ac-130: shooting people with some gatling gun
C.W. Lemoine: Who is aiming?
This plane wouldn’t have even made it over Maryland before getting shot down
Fluent it’s coming from Virginia which is the complete opposite direction but still
Actually, if it was stolen, it wouldn't have made it to the runway. Or even off the ramp. USAF security forces DO NOT f_ck around.
@@ryanpayne9119 Fort Zancudo
@@ryanpayne9119 and if stolen the pilots wouldn't be trying to establish comms with it, they would've lit it up the second they got within range.
Imagine trying to steal an AC-130 from an Airforce Base. Youd be shot to shit before you even tame off. Probably hit you with the 20mm.
Mover, ever thought of doing stand up? You have excellent comedic timing.
I'd watch that!
Ok lets leave some professions for others. He is already several things.
Lol
Maybe he will when he retires from everything else?
"Small arms fire, that usually helps" lol I love it
Me: Hmm..I mean wouldn’t it work like that?
Mover: That’s not how it goes at all, terribly executed
Me: What were they thinking, terribly executed indeed
11:54 i think the AC-130's tail would've been shredded by the shrapnel at that range. or at least, that's what it looks like, with the 2 massive explosions going off right behind the aircraft. i mean, that's definitely close enough to inflict damage considering most missiles aren't made to rely on a direct hit.
@jweltsch22 yeah, that too. i mean, maybe he could've seen it get fired from the white house, but i'm not sure he'd be able to react that fast.
"Enemy AC-130 above"
And then we have the scene where the entire secret service runs out on the front lawn and gets mowed down like sitting ducks. Because of course they would. Had to be one of the most Hollywood scenes I've seen in a long time.
The movie “Independence Day” with Will Smith? Lots of flight scenes to unpack or “ruin” lol
I like that Andrew's AFB is in the woods... Nope, its in the city. Been there a few times!
I might be wrong, but don’t the horizontal stabilizers on the “f-22” look awfully vertical like the ones on the f-15 or f-14? It looks super weird being at such a weird angle.
I was thinking the same thing
Nikolas Stancu ...Hollywood CGI mock-up on a time constraint. If it looks cool (and makes Air Force look bad-remember this movie was likely funded by the Chinese financial concerns that fuel the studios) it goes in.
The worst part is that the AC-130 Gunship only has weapons on the Pilot Side of the aircraft; I hate that BS; All those guys on the roof died for absolutely no reason
Shoutout to the Badman reference at 2:12! Did NOT expect that! xD Instant sub right there
My list: The AC-130 only has gatlings on one side, and as you say, where's the 105? The Stinger launch, you would ripple them at sufficient interval that they don't interfere and don't guide on each other, not simultaneously. The C-130 flare release is just a ripple to clear the dispensers; looks pretty but not a valid sequence to decoy a missile. That's also a release purely from the rear dispensers, the nose and armpit dispensers would be required against Stinger. While we're on the AC-130, it should have a HUD in the left window for the pilot to aim as he circles the target and it should have RF ECM to defeat the Fox3. Oh and the 'AAMRAM' display shows the target coming toward the Raptor, not tail-on, and that's accepting that such a display actual exists.
welcome to another episode of "why is this in my recommended??"
Because its good
idk man Before corona my youtube was normal...
12:52
The Flight Director on the right panel shows a turn that contradicts with the turn shown by the centre display
Also, the radar on the left panel is sideways
There is no way in hell an AC-130 is taking down F-22s that easily.
They will if the jet jockies are dumb enough to fly alongside him, thinking they're one big, happy family.
It had fucking mini guns.
@@mikethespike056 One would be behind it with radar lock.
The more we know the less we can enjoy Hollywood movies.

Man, everything about this scene makes no sense.
I'm concerned about the pilots. I mean, they're smart enough to fly but dumb enough to be roped into this weird suicide mission.
I don't think it's supposed to it's just a normal lobby of gta online
6:42 "Another inside job" XD
I remember during 2015 the guy in the gyrocopter made it all the way to the capitol west lawn. Radar couldn't track him.
