      Mover is right though about the drones, but Physics did not leave the chat entirely... some physicists (Reel Physics E01) did the calculations and showed that mathematically it was plausible that they would have survived the falling tank. They even discovered that in real life the tanks came fully loaded and ready to fight, including the reality of the types of parachutes used to carry the tank's weight.

    "Why drones?!"
    Because they have no human pilots in them. They eventually shoot and destroy both and, in the best A-Team fashion, the team doesn't 'kill' any human pilot.
    Remember in the TV show nobody ever died, and in this movie, even in the mayhem at the very end (which is even more ridiculous), if I remember correctly only Pike was killed by a member of the team.
    It was a silly movie, like the TV show, but a fun one and probably one of the better remake/revival of old 80's TV shows.

    6:40: According to Air Force Magazine, an MQ-1 Predator armed with the AIM-92 Stinger missile engaged in a dogfight with an Iraqi Air Force MiG-25 on 12/23/2002. The Predator fired at the MiG-25, and the MiG-25 fired at the Predator, which was shot down. In addition, the U.S. Air Force announced in 3/2018 that it would arm the MQ-9 Reaper (which replaced the Predator) with the AIM-9X Sidewinder missile.

    I assumed they used drones because it is the safest way for the movie makers to have the heroes stop their pursuers without them killing fellow allies. They can't have the heroes kill American Airforce/Marine/Army pilots who were just chasing some guys who just stole a military plane. They're trying to clear their names so killing fellow allies along the way will not help their case.
    Had the A-Team stole a Russian plane from a Russian base then we would certainly see them being chased by Su-35s instead. In the intro they were chased by irredeemably evil bad guys so it's fine to see them killed off in a way the audience can laugh at their deaths.

    7:43 -the reason for drones is because the movie showed big plane breaking the top of smaller planes as it's going down the runway, making them unusable, so the quickest thing they had, that could lift off immediately were apparently drones. That way we can watch an air battle without good guys killing other good guys.

  • @anthony7697
    @anthony7697 2 года назад +1

    I can answer the ripple fire question - because for some reason they are using outdated Vietnam era or earlier heat seekers. In the 70's and earlier there were still some issues with missiles not tracking right or just straight up leaving the pylon and never having the motors fire and just fell to earth, so there were times pilots would ripple fire just cause ideally one of the 2 would work in the middle of that fight and hit the target.

      Firing the shell does slow the tank down, but only very slightly. I did some calculations and a 60000kg tank firing a shell with 9.8MJ muzzle energy and muzzle velocity of 1640m/s will be propelled backwards by 0.2m/s by the momentum of the shell alone. This does not include recoil from expelled gases, but even if total recoil momentum is 5 times the shell momentum, that will propel the tank by 1m/s. Not much.

      @@salkasalka I mean, We're talking about a 60t-ish tank and a 7kg-ish shell. You don't have much hope to seriously propel something by ejecting a projectile that is several thousand times lighter, unless you accelerate it to relativistic speeds.

    The Navy base is actually CFB Cold Lake in Alberta, Canada. Thats why you see the Hornets there. And if you look closely, you can see the false canopy markings underneath.

    They are in german airspace in the second scene. So it would be probably Typhoon/Eurofighters that would appear instead of drones, since those are the ones on standby here. Looks like they made it to the alps, so maybe its Switzerland or Austria already, so thisstunt would probably cause an international air alert too? Europe and especially germany is very dense populated and a lot of airtraffic going on in a small area, so this thing would probably result in utter chaos. Oh, besides ...no Dynamte fishing here, that fisherman would go straight to jail.

    MQ-9's are being tested with A2A Stingers and can technically carry AIM-9X's. Apparently, the MBDA fitted/fired a Brimstone missile from one for the RAF as well. Possible, but not likely.

      @@willw8011 Yeah, I don't think a turboprop aircraft has any chance against a jet aircraft unless it's able to track/fire BVR missiles. Not what this specific platform was designed for. Now, you start getting into jet-powered platforms like the RQ-170 or RQ-180, might be a different story there if they can incorporate an internal weapons bay to maintain stealth signature.

    At the airforce base, there's not nearly enough runway for Murdock to get the C130 up to takeoff speed, and all the fighter jets that he's smashing with the wings would obviously slow you down if not start a fire - you certainly wouldn't be of any kind of speed to takeoff!
