For some reason the i7-7700K Processor and 1080ti had an issue where the 5820k at 4.5 didn't regardless of the harddrive used. Normal 7200, M2, or SSD. Tried the last 3 geforce drivers.
Hey Karak just a heads up there is an issue with a lot of people where 5.1 surround doesn't work, only stereo or 7.1. So even if you have 5.1 you need to set it to stereo or 7.1 to get proper audio and hear voices etc.

If you have a AMD card don't even bother buying this at the moment. I've got a 1800X and a Fury and it still runs like shit at 1080p.
ACG this was my favorite game when it first came out, and now it’s still my favorite especially with the new content and pc edition.
Quick question, I've never played any FF game but I want to give this one a try, do you think I should get the base edition or would jumping into the royal edition straight off the bat be a good idea.
I would love this game only for the food. I absolutely hate it when food in a game is just a mushy 2D texture (and you wouldn't believe how often I check food that is just lying around in games) and then comes FF 15 with these god damn delicious looking dishes all the time.

I’m playing with graphics on highest/high and i get around 50-60fps. I did play the game on ps4 on release and I gotta say it feels so much better in general. Very smooth and combat is much more enjoyable and feels more fast paced due to the frame increase. So far I am really enjoying it

fam i reccomend a re-review after you finish the pc version the game is so diff now. more scenes, more exploration, switching characters mid combat, a whole new ending chapter, and well i dont think comrades was out when u review it before but thats lit too

The ability to switch character is so, so crucial. 4 completely different playstyles available at the start is a legit game changer.

Leftleg Trumpcard Yeah. Keep in mind that you have to unlock the ability to change to a character through the ascension tree. Also you can only switch in combat, but that's where the different styles come in anyway.

Denuvo’s eating my CPU!
I would love a "walking the walk" video of this game/PC edition/Royal edition. I simply love a lot of the artwork in this game.
Got no stuttering issues myself on my 1070, however I know we all have our different setups and the billions of combinations of software and hardware is quite the factor in whether one game works better than another for someone.
That said, glad you like the game. You're one of the rare few reviewers, both "professional" and otherwise, that I trust.

There wasn't a truly amazing main series FF game since XII. Which came out 12 years ago, I doubt that we'll ever see anything similar to FF IV - FF XII from SE.
Anyone else having random crashes? I lost like 1.5 hours of gameplay on one crash and 15mins from another.
Edit: have gotten the weird low voice issue as well...hope they fix the issues in further updates with patches

I feel like it ran a hell of a lot better for me in the demo for whatever reason. Now I get stutters often. It's nothing too bad but it's noticeable. Summons are broken too, they lock the game at 25fps or so forcing a restart. Still a nice port overall though, loving the keyboard and mouse controls

I think the "wait mode" combat style for PC version should've been replace/improve further to "wait button." Therefore, the combat play become a lot more responsive (in active mode) when you can just pause to tactical like Dragon Age series or ME Trilogy or PoE, instead of getting Noctis not moving for a few seconds to get tactical system (in wait mode).
If SE do not implementing this, I hope there will be mod for this.
"Summoning"
Something that is included towards the end of the game and appears at random, usually when the game wants to give you a bone but something you have no control over. Yeah. That summoning.

I honestly do not understand what the Hell would be different in the PC version? It's...the same game. Different resolution based on your settings, with the DLCs included for a change, but what exactly are you expecting that would be different? You can play the game with the keyboard or just use a gamepad. Are the cameras fix? Is the combat system not a complete chaos? Like what are you talking about. I am aware that you now get the new Arms included, but overall, what is different? Does the ending not happen anymore? I'm aware there is a new scene included, but all of that is also available in the console if you buy the pass. Every time a person says "it'll be different in PC" as if it's a magical portal to an entirely different game when it isn't. Don't talk about modding because that's an entirely different thing.

No mention of the hi res DLC? Zero stutter on my system without it. With it enabled, I get a stutter every now and then whenever the game jumps above 93% RAM and Vram usage.
You can put me in the group that has really bad stuttering no matter what settings I use. I really like the game, and wish I could get the performance other people are getting.
Things I have had to do to make the game more enjoyable:
1. Create custom control configuration in Steam, so that the controls are more intuitive (i.e. B now dodges and rolls).
2. Have the voices in Japanese, because the voices are a little jarring with thick American accents.
3. Turn down some unnecessary settings. I.e. Most of the nVidia settings, and shadows. I am getting 55Fps with most settings on ultra at 4K by doing this.

Hey Karak, just wanted to ask a question about the audio. In the demo I found that running a 5.1 audio system renders no sound output but switching over to stereo the sound came through. Just wondering if you ever ran into "no sound" and maybe how to fix it?
3 hour download yesterday was worth. I'm normally not into single player games (with some exceptions like Dishonored 2), but in my couple of hours on FFXV I enjoy it so far. Normally never would've got it, but the new dlc with multiplayer absolutely sold me.
There is a mod that fixes the stutter. It's not a Denuvo problem. Check the workshop forum on steam. There is a massive post detailing the how behind it works too.. It massively improved the hitching.

Would definitely love a more in-depth look at the technical aspects of the game, maybe even a walking the walk video, especially since the PC version was hyped up to have a graphical fidelity a console generation beyond current consoles.
Curious at what your setup is, Karak, because on my work machine, a 7700 i7 + 750ti @ 1080p the game is smooth at lowish settings, and at home on my 1440p 8600K Titan Xp, the game is also smooth as silk with no hitching or frame stuttering at 100+ fps, and I'm sure you've updated your drivers. I have the home one installed on a sammy ssd, the work one is on a much slower spindle based disk. 16 gb ram on both systems. Honestly this port is so damn good, and I've been playing on KB/M. Really loving the whole thing and glad I didn't watch any playthroughs or pay attention much when it came out for PS4. Worth noting also for those thinking of jumping in, go and watch Kingsglaive first - it REALLY helps to fill in the blanks on a lot of the story as you play.
ya sadly a huge number of folks aren't having your experience. Even with far better systems. Thats the problem with the game sadly

Can finally play this game on PC..it's been a long wait. Too bad the M&K interface and no mouse cursor in the map made me switch back to controller else I would've used M&K.
How are the loading times in the Windows Edition? as i remember the concole being long loading in some areas,
I've yet to see a FF XV PC gameplay video that is free of stuttering frames. Is that the actual game or is it a byproduct of the capture software you're using?

Fucking beautiful game. Beat it on ps4 pro when it came out, hated the 30 fps and terrible aliasing. So this is 1000000x better. Runs amazing for me on my 1080 and 6700k at 1440p.
Will the denuvo malware be active even if I don't run the game?
No because A: it's not malware and B: it only activates while the game is booting up in order to check if it's connected to Steam and is legit. After that it does nothing.

Has anybody had an issue of the entire screen having this heavy blue static tint when you're in full screen mode? Can't find a fix anywhere for it =/

Either resinstall/reset your graphics settings. Or try to use some reshade mod.
Just wanted to say I fixed the issue. I was using a 144hz monitor and I think it was messing with my 970 gpu. Or not, I really have no idea to be honest. But I did manage to fix it by switching to my 60hz monitor. Now it runs absolutely perfectly. If anybody has a 144 monitor and runs into this issue I hope my solution helps
What really killed me is that there is no sound unless you change your windows settings to 2 channel audio. The game doesn't support anything higher.
On my PC when they had the demo i tried it out but it lagged like absolute crazy BUT i kinda forgot to update my GeForce driver so probably should retry the demo to see IF that fixed it

But with a little tweaking I get it to run at relatively stable 60 and still most of the settings high. Just turn off all of the Nvidia stuff
The DRM hurts and sadly, the game still isn't "done." :/ Even when it is done, I just don't think it'll be what it could have been or was even intended to be. Geez, as a FF fan, this all hurts so badly. But anyway, big fan of ACG though ^^ excellent work, as always.

@Satyasya Satyasya Denuvo does not have an impact on the game performance-wise. It only does its check during start up. After that, nothing happens. Also it's the only game that's actually a "Game as a service", in that it will constantly put out more content like MMO's do. Would you say Witcher 3 without all its DLCs is "incomplete"? How about Skyrim? or any other game with DLC/expansions?
@The Reaper95 That's really an opinion. I'm having a blast playing it. However the game starts off very open world unlike other FF titles, and we don't have alot of options other than running on foot or taking a car on rails to our destinations at the beginning. For those of us who don't mind that, we're enjoying it. Those who do mind it however, aren't. That's really up to our own personal tastes.
I don't get what's the big deal with the DRM that people are talking about.
I get the same smooth performance with the demo as the final release with latest Nvidia drivers.

Completely different The witcher 3 gave you a full cohesive story in the original game and gave us great expansions, blood and wine doesn't fill in details about plot points that were unanswered in the game.
Imagine if you never played the ciri segments in the witcher and all of a sudden you end in kaer morhen with no explanation, or you play the witcher 3 and it completely skips the baron and adds it in as dlc, the game would make alot less sense without those things. Dlc is meant to EXPAND AND ADD new story elements to a game not fill in plot holes, that's where FFXV went wrong.

I play with a joypad but when I used push to talk on discord (ctrl key) I would get a little stuttering on some cutscenes.
I been hearing about this Denuvo DRM stuff, but what happens of you play this game in steam offline mode. Will that help any possible issues you could suffer from the DRM?

I've never played a FF before, thought I would jump in on this one when it came to Windows. I have a PS4 but thought hey I'll wait it out I have an i7-7700 with an RX580 that has yet to fail me and this game would be really fluid in 60 fps! Jokes on me the benchmark laughed at me and the demo ran like garbage too even on Low.
CopyrightedUsername Don't even bother. This FF is garbage. If you want to get into FF, go with the originals. I would recommend IV through the XII. Most of them are in Steam.
XIII and XV are garbage.

If you want a proper introduction to FF, try FF IX, it's the one with the most charm and best cast of characters imo.
Or if you plan on playing them all, start with VI and stop at XII.
IV is also worth it and one of my favourites, but people don't seem to like it as much.
Anyway, Final Fantasy's golden era is VI through IX.
After that the quality gradually dips with each entry, but X and XII are still decent.
Not getting 60fps doesn't mean it runs like garbage mate. You can get a 30fps lock with near-high settings. Some FX are more taxing than others, so play around with the options a bit.
I enjoyed it on my ps4 and this was my first FF game and after that i played FF 1
Chris Sukam I completely disagree, 13 starts slightly rough but improves quite a bit, and XV is just a joy to play, also it is the most beginner friendly Final fantasy out there.
also as much as I love FF12 I would not recommend that game to most people because it is very slow and the characters can be polarizing, i love them all but most dont.
I would say get FFXV and FFX as your first games in the series, XV is just pure fun with an amazing combat system and beautiful open world and FFX is just an incredible FF game with incredible characters that you will never forget. that game will make you laugh and cry more then any other rpg out there.
Aside from frequent crashing and stuttering it runs fine, looks great, getting good FPS at ultra 4K... Just the annoying crashes which sometimes can happen after 20 minutes and others after 5 hours, it's random, also the occasional stuttering.
I havnt played a FF games since Crisis Core on the psp.. is this worth a okay?
I played this on the PS4 when it first came out and I had a lot of fun with it. As long as you don't go into it expecting a story that makes sense (tons of material was cut) and play it more for the journey with the characters, I think there's a lot of fun to be had. I'm not sure what the experience is like with some of the extra content that Square Enix has added. Once I got the platinum trophy I haven't really looked back. Still, it's entertaining enough if you like action RPGs. :)
Fuck yes, especially with the royal/ pc edition. You get all the season pass dlc and extra dlc plus the new content from the royal edition. Right now is the BEST time for getting into this game. If you pick it up you’ll be getting a amazing and compellingly experience with 200+ hours of just fun. Plus it’s only 50 bucks(whatever equivalent in your region) so there’s no reason not to pick it up if you’re interested
If you like the real time combat of Crisis Core, you'll love FFXV. Type-0 is also great if you like Crisis Core, but it's lacking a bit of polish and only worth it on a sale.

Clone82 It is a much better game now, because you finally have access to control other characters during combat and they added a lot of new stuff to the game to make the story more coherent than before.
The stuttering could be from nvidias latest drivers..... They're terrible. Even rolling back doesn't fix the stutter as reported by some people.
Always check the nvidia subreddit before updating drivers!!!!

1080p MAX settings, TAA, Nvidia Hairworks, VXAO, Shadowlabs on, Turfeffects is demanding so I have it off. First two hours of the game I've been averaging 65 FPS, with my performance overall being better than the Demo. During the demo I did have a few lag spikes but with the final release I have yet to have one.
I wonder how easy it is to implement tobii eye-tracking...so many games seem to do it lately

If they would have invested so much more into the story, truly made the interactions between the party more meaningful, and either put things beside fetch quests into the world or made the world something other than a road trip, then this could have at least become a mediocre game.

89% approval on Steam now (around 1400 reviews). Around 10% having issues, so I wonder if Square Enix will fix those cause they never bothered to fix Nier Automata

A nice breakdown of those impressions. For me it isn't a bad game, but it isn't an FF game I loved even on the console. So not really going out to get it again.
Still don't think they've nailed it with a Final Fantasy game in a long time. There are good things with this one. The extra layer of interactions and the feeling of being part of a small group on a trip being one of them. But I don't think they quite did it right with the story and the gameplay is only somewhat appealing.

Turn off vxao, I gained +17 FPS by doing that with a gtx 1070. The regular ambient occlusion looked just as good to me anyway.

ACG I think it depends on your processor. Example I'm running a high tier i5, and a gtx 1080ti, but notice when I drop vxao, I get a 10 to 17 fps increase

I get the same performance on the demo (no Denuvo) as the final retail copy (with Denuvo).
Some of the DRM complaints are just parrot talk by people who haven't even even played the game yet

I'm pretty sure Denuvo verifies the validity periodically and not just on start up.
Otherwise it would be pretty easy to crack since every DRM until then checked on start up, that's how Steam works.
The pirates were already singing. While the game wasn't even released at that point. Denuvo is truly a waste of money.

I will avoid Square Enix PC ports. Nier Automata was an excaption for me but no excaption for a shit port with no fix whatsoever. SE is just a japanese EA that discovered the PC maybe a year ago. Even a Terranigma HD Remaster would run like crap, bug and crash if it would be ported to the PC
I'm loving this! I have a LOT of fun, there was a few stutter points, but it happened once, maybe twice. Nvidia Sh%@#works eats up about 20fps alone, but adds verry little to the experience, so shutting that off I'm at around 75fps on a high end rig...

Loved this game so much.
When playing the demo I got frame drops on anything above the lowest settings. My computer isn't the best but games like Witcher 3 run flawlessly even at higher settings. I guess half the reason is cause of my AMD GPU but this game just feels really badly optimised. Don't know if that's just the demo though

Hreesto I am using NVIDIA GTX 960 & yes I think Witcher 3 is much more optimized than this game (also even more beautiful sometime) which is surprising considering the environment design is denser in Witcher 3 with a lot of forest area & snows too. Even Dark Souls 3 has better performance in my PC.
Didn't like the new comabt system and the camera angles were awful half the time! :(
I had some annoying stuttering which has forced me to lock the fps to about 40. Stuttering is gone and it is now playable at least. But damn this game is pushing my PC to the brink, no other game has made it run this hot.
I am not sure about the combat system, as I really hate the wait mechanic, but it is also freaking necessary so I can scan enemies and know what weapons to use against them. It should have been a button toggle imo.
And I had to go for Japanese voices as some of the English voices was so incredibly wrong for the character it made my ears bleed. Cindy sounds like a big stereotype, and Ignis has the most forced English accent I have ever heard in a game. But the worst one has to be that reporter guy, Dino. When he opened his mouth I burst out laughing, his face and that accent was so wrong. Only downside of the Japanese voices so far is that the texting is still for the English voices, which is obviously wrong on many cases.
I am enjoying myself though, it is at least way better than the abomination that was Final Fantasy 13. Man that game is one of the most boring games I have ever tried playing.

2:43 look at the behemoths deltoid on the top left of the screen. That muscle jiggle is something I never noticed before. Also the port runs amazing at 1440p 70+ fps on everything maxed out except for the nvidia bullshit.
Shame they changed the ending for the peasants who didn't understood it.
Luckily I got the disc version of PS4, so I can go back to the real ending whenever I want.
