The worst part of XV is that you can clearly see the potential this game had if it didn't get pushed aside for 10 years or had 1 year to be developed. It's still a great journey even though it's not a complete game, but it's frustrating to know that it had the potential to be one of the best final fantasy title of the franchise

    • @thechance-lore4711

      That’s a fair point!!

    • @NemesisSP
      @NemesisSP Год назад +36

The game wasn't pushed back for ten years. It was in development for at least 4 years before it became XV. BUT, the caveat is that it also only had about two years of development under a new creative vision after they threw out everything but the basic graphic assets.
We have leaked storyboards, we have Shinji Hashimoto mention having played a build of the game on the PS3 and we know Tatsuhisa Suzuki still has his copy of the Versus script. He even said it himself. Plus, the stuff shown off in 2013 wasn't just made in a month. Especially all of the FMVs shown off in it.
The truth is that when people like to claim it was in development for years or delayed for that long, they're not really grasping the full story. Because it's a tale of epic mismanagement by two CEO's who did not understand the full picture of what they were doing to a game by constantly taking staff away from it to work on other games.

My wife had bought this game for me for christmas for me in 2019 and started playing through it if i wasn't working or spending time with the family i was playing this game. as im playing this game i reach the part after the leviathan fight and Noctis finds out luna passed away. a day later my wife passed away from an asthma attack. stop playing the game for a while. and decided to pick it back up and it was good i did so. This game made me reach out to my good friends my brother's. I was in so much grief i didn't want to be around no one this game helped me alot to cope with my grief and knew i could not handle my grief alone. granted there were some flaws with this game (cough cough magic system) but i still play this game and enjoy it

After completing Final Fantasy 16 (after years of anticipation), my opinion of 15 has actually improved. While overall 16 is probably a better, more refined package, 15 has so much more character and soul in its world, music and characters. With the DLC and updates the game is much more enjoyable than at launch... but I dream that one day its get a complete re-release with additional content + DLC merged into a single cohesive 'Ultimate' edition. It would be amazing to have additional scenes in Insomnia at the start of the game for example, so that we could see the city before its eventual demise, or have the opportunity to explore Altissia etc. Plus it would be nice to not have to select the DLC through a menu, but have it truly integrated into the main game.

A lot of people are dissing FFXVs intro after the FFXVI demo came out because of how much slower it is but what people don't understand is that they both succeed at what they want to do. FFXV is about brotherhood and the opening represents that, FFXVI is about revenge redemption and eventually purpose and it's intro also succeeds in doing so. Slower doesn't mean worse and vice versa

    • @thechance-lore4711

Ten seconds of Ifrit vs. Phoenix being the very first thing you do in FFXVI definitely felt like a "take that, FFXV" moment to me, lol. The similarity to the ten seconds of confronting Ifrit at the start of FFXV were undeniable.
I also had the feeling while playing the demo that the demo portion was basically FFXVI's version of Kingsglaive given how incredibly story-focused it was, with much of the gameplay simply being walking between story beats with maybe a tiny bit of combat. Then it turned out that the entire game is like that, lol.
XV is a game that's designed to have the player participate as much as possible, even in "little" things like pushing a car. XVI is an HBO show with combat. The intentions are very different, and the choices they make reflect that. (Ironically, I think that in some ways, XVI ultimately feels slower, since you're stuck watching cutscenes for a lot of scenes where Clive simply talks to someone that probably would have been a walk-and-talk in XV.)

    • @crowevil4658
      @crowevil4658 Год назад

@@ikkinwithattitude I don’t understand the cutscene take… pound for pound, FFs that have scenes, take FFX for example, have the proportionate number of non-playable hours. In fact, X and XVI ratios are about the same (both games take about 35+ hours to beat, X has 9 hours of scenes and dialogue, XVI has 11 hours and some are interactive). I would venture to think that 15 is not the exception.
Perhaps XVI doesn’t spread them out and bulks them in, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is the same as games before it.
Edit: 13 has 9 hours and 15 has just under 7 hours, and looking back there are complaints of too few major story scenes. Lol it needs to stop yall.

    • @ikkinwithattitude
      @ikkinwithattitude Год назад

@@crowevil4658 The cutscene movies for XVI are between 17 and 20 hours, which suggests the game is at least 40% cutscene (for a 50hr all-sidequests playthrough) compared to X's 25% (for a 40hr story focused playthrough).
Meanwhile, XV cutscene movies need to include the walk-and-talks and battle dialogue to make sense, so there's a lot of gameplay in those 7 hours. There's probably a decent amount of combat footage in XVI cutscene compilations, granted, but that's not really going to change the difference in impression given by a 7-to-30 ratio or a 10-to-40 ratio versus a 20-to-50 ratio.

There are ideas that I wish they didn't drop. I wish we choukd have explored the crown city before the time skip. It was a fun game but it felt like the demo and other content didn't really matter. Many villan characters were forgotten in the game after a single chapter. FF15 quickly became one of my favorite video games. I remember when it was first released, but I was way too young to play it at the time. I only remembered its existence back in 2022 and bought it for my PS4 💀. Yes, the game has its flaws, and the game went through a tough development; versus 13 being scrapped entirely, all the updates, rushed story writing, etc. However, MANY parts of the game made me sob like a baby, and I developed a strong attachment to the guys and their friendship. I got quickly attached to Prompto, specifically, as I had grown up very similar to how he did as shown in the Brotherhood anime and a few scenes in the game. The game helped pull me through a tough time in my life, as I had been suffering from depression. Kinda silly considering how tragic the story is, but it's true.
I don't care if others think the game is bad or not, but to me, it's an imperfect masterpiece, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. (Sorry bout the rambling 😭‼️)

Played XV back when it came out on Steam and replayed it early this year and still enjoyed it.
One thing that has always annoyed me when people describe XV's combat is "Hold attack button to win". In general, describing any game like that just shows how much effort they put in understanding a game.
In XV's case, there's a lot more to the combat that almost everyone overlooks. Directional attacks, attack properties, weapon properties, weapon switching, a pretty wide variety of movesets depending on the weapon, and airstep combos which changed how I look at XV's combat completely and has made fighting monsters 20+ levels above me much easier to fight against. Not to mention being able to lock on to enemy appendages which you can sometimes destroy, preventing the enemy from using specific attacks tied to the appendages similar to games like Monster Hunter or Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Even playing as Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto (Ardyn as well), it was pretty fun playing as them during combat where Gladio's gameplay focuses on perfect parries rewarding powerful attacks, Ignis' gameplay being somewhat similar to Noctis with a more elemental weakness approach, and Prompto's gameplay focusing on wearing down the enemy till the opportune moment to deal major damage with a satisfying crackshot.
Unfortunately, a lot of people perceive the combat as "simple" due to how little the depth of combat is explained to the player.

little stuff to add to the video. Purple means the damage is least effective white is normal damage no decrease or increase. Combat is not a button matcher but depending on the direction your analog stick is facing he does a certain attack(if you hold attack and hold back you will flip backwards and gain invisibility frames). Igins has a regroup ability that heals your party heath(not max health) which helps on getting down allies or need a quick heal. You can fast travel anywhere once you've been there once.

It fell drastically short for me getting fed up with the combat and not ever fully learning it..
As well as some of the lackluster side content… I got swooped up by the Witcher three at the time and never went back to FF 15..
Maybe I’ll give it another shot? These days I’ve been playing a lot of odor games like super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy three, Chrono trigger and as of right now at this very moment I am playing tales of Fantasia for the GBA

I remember playing the two demos on the xbox one including the platinum demo and was dissapointed on full release they never actually included going through kid noctis and his bond with lunafreya in more depth and including his dad being vastly younger with some more story into that relationship so by the time noctis recieved the bad news it wouldve hit the players a bit harder as well and maybe we could've explored the city a lot more before it got ruined. What it was as Versus doesnt matter as much as the story they cut off from the current iteration of the game besides us losing out on the extra dlc for lunafreya as well for the shortcomings with her.

NOCTIS is the new Cloud., that´s for sure., in that aspect TABATA achieved it, he made a commercial game that was easy for new public and that really made a mark into a generation like FF7 did it in the 90s., or FF X in the 00´s, but still the game is not finished at all aspects., story, game mechanics and systems, combat and so on., i hope they could remake this game someday and made it more polished and with a more focused aim., or better yet make Versus 13, something that feels more polished like FF 13, but with a more developed game mechanics like the classic FF games, even Type 0 and Crisis Core are better designed than FFXV, so Tabata could have done a better job if things were better organized at Square-Enix, but he kinda made it at the end of the day

For someone that played off of day 1 release back in Nov 2016 I was most definitely satisfied with what I got because I more so enjoyed the open world/wilderness exploration, the music and the vibes of the boys interacting and fighting made it all that good for me alone without the DLCS and additions, so I agree it had its flaws but was definitely playable and loved that it took a diff twist of FF features and gameplay mechanics with it’s battle system, I wish the game had got more attention and redeemed for its launch for some folks but overall even after 7 years later, this game sits hard in my heart for gaming and don’t get me started with the ending and emotions opening up the credits of the deja vu flashback audio to the beginning of the game with the gang pushing the car

I've recently decided to play this game again and I can't believe how incredible the combat system is on a level 1 playthrough. I AP farmed and unlocked the ability's to play as the other characters in under an hour, and from then it felt like almost a completely different experience than my first playthrough. The game is incredibly slept on in that aspect alone, it is as difficult as you want it to be if you impose some restrictions yourself instead of insisting that the devs do it for you. Equip the accessory that stops you from gaining levels (doesn't interfere with sphere grid stuff), and limit yourself to like 1-3 items per battle and the combat is a BLAST. Despite supposedly getting a lot of hate this is one of the best selling FF's, and it's definitely one of my favorites. If there were ever a prequel dlc that had us spending time in Insomnia, so that the place we're fighting all game to get back too actually has some sort of meaning to the player lol, this would probably be my favorite game in the series but for now it's 2nd place. I've yet to compelte my FFXVI playthrough tho.

In case you’re curious, here were the notes I had down for the video idea I was going to make. They’re super messy as they were only made for me, but I thought they’d be fun to share as this game just contains so much wacky impressive stuff:
“Final fantasy 15 is gaming’s greatest social experiment
You probably remember final fantasy 15 as that kind of average entry in the series where you go round on a road trip with the boys, right? Wrong, this game is the weirdest god damn game that your brain has somehow forgotten in some kind of modern Mandela effect. Either it was made by an advanced algorithm gone rogue or luminous productions are actually aliens trying to emulate game developers.
It starts innocent with an odd assassins creed crossover dressing up as Altair and getting addicted to gambling in a completely optional monster arena to win a part for your monster truck that ignites the ground around you every time you jump, but rapidly devolves into getting absorbed into a crystal and going back in time using a time travelling dog to fight a moving turtle mountain decked out in DLC iron man suits that make you completely invincible, shooting it with a revolver, and spinning it around like you’re revolver ocelot, whilst meanwhile the current day timeline has turned into a multiplayer monster Hunter spin-off that for some reason had combat better than the actual game?!
Let me slow down. This isn’t a deep dive, but let me quickly mention some of the bizarre shit that this game has done, much of which I’m sure you either forgot or had no idea was even in the game.
Let’s ignore the fact that to understand what’s going on before you even launch the game is watch a feature length film, an anime, read a script - a game for first timers my ass
    - magic system, final fantasy 8
    - Companions leave at random points, for dlc
    - Multiplayer monster Hunter, restore power to the continent
    - Dlc with alternate ending ignis
    - Second half of the game says fuck it we’re final fantasy 13 now
    - iPod for all music
    - Hidden bank vaults in dungeons
    - Crossovers, terra, final fantasy 14
    - Car racing DLC
    - Drifting Chocbos
    - Games have a photo mode, Final Fantasy 15 takes this a bit too literally, walking cameraman who levels up as he takes screenshots - that’s how confident Luminous were in how gorgeous this game is
    - Ignis ultimate move from beating the DLC is busting out a cooking mama set, look at the animations on this
    - Ride a boat out in the open seas
    - Beastiary, you ever wanted to know how much ancient god Bahamut weighs? God forbid you ask it how much Aranea weighs though
    - 104 fish, 116 meals (lead onto farming minigame)
    - Photo album which has a really meaningful moment and becomes canonical in the finale
    - Damn, Shiva is 7ft tall, that’s tall enough to step on my-
    - Monster arena, maximum bet if 9999 tokens takes about 10 hours to win a part for your car which negates fuel use. Saving you the odd 100 Gil, or you know, just use the completely free off road upgrade you get hours into the game instead??
    - Noodle cup helmet
    - Pinball mini game
    - SkillUp comic, script, anime on RUclips, film, versus XIII
    - Gravity cannon weapon upgrades
    - Lestalum Venice boats
    - Time travel dog
    - Shooter DLC
    - Revolver ocelot reload animation
    - Farming minigame
    - Moving turtle mountain
    - First person mode???
    - Graded in battle
    - DLC suits that just make you invincible, I called it iron man, but tell me this couldn’t be warframe footage right now warframe riding a chocobo
    - Every single magic spell just decimates your entire team
    - The way summons work (clip on ps5 of ramuh throwing a spear through a mountain to kill some trash mobs, thanks I sure was in a lot of trouble old man
    - Hold down a button to just become invincible and dodge every single thing
    - Can actually play as Aranea, cancelled DLC, she’s in Final Bar Line
    - Ever wondered why your beloved party member lost his eyesight? Make sure you buy the DLC where he turns into a fucking god and beats the final boss on his own
    - Dlc where you play as the villain??
    - Wyrm chase from Bulletstorm in Prompto finale, footage on PS(
    - Ardyn hat because ultraviolet hurts him, it’s off on indoor scenes”

I also agree that the ending to this game is one of the best by far, it pays off really well. I'm currently playing the Royal edition and I'm loving it (A bit sad that Ardyn's DLC is not included, but, it is what it is). I'm coming from 2024 to say that it is still a must play to his day.

Really good video, man; pacing is great. It gave me the excuse to get back into FF and I have this on steam, but stayed away because of the hate. I didn’t even try it for myself 🤦🏻‍♂️

I played through XV right when it came out, and loved it. I rly enjoyed the original DLCs too. I've been meaning to go back and replay it with all the updates plus the Ardyn episode.

I got this game around the time of my 13th Birthday in December. Had some extra cash from my birthday and thought why not go to GameStop while my mom was shopping. So I went over there saw it and since I heard so many good things about the Final Fantasy series I thought why not get this one? Got home booted it up and played through the first couple chapters and I was immediately hooked. Back then I had never played any game with such likeable characters and expanded world and this game introduced it all to me. Sure it has its flaws, but this game to this day remains as my favorite game of all time and will forever hold a special place in my heart

i do want to go back and play this game. I honestly was very very disappointed that the summons where basically non existent unless (like you said) certain criteria is met. That was one of the big reason why i like final fantasy the big flashy summons you could bring out. But it sucks you cant really in this game which is why i never fully got into it.

*I have been having a blast! Graphics holds up very well against current gen games on PS5. It is honestly insane the ammount of detail that went into the game. The free flowing combat remind me of Devil May Cry series. They really did a good job at making you feel bad azz. The open world is alot bigger than expected! Overall this game has been an amazing experience so far!*

Every final fantasy has something for old and new who wants to be at ease with a game’s story. My first was hilariously enough was back with two when it first began delving into story. Yeah I’m old but in hindsight I got to see this franchise be what it is now as a driving force for story telling. In regards to fifteen as a title, it’s a gem in the rough with parts missing, yet… no matter how you look at it, it still has its core like many before as well as what will come after. Perhaps with time onwards we’ll get a complete version to fill the gaps

FFXV kind of rekindled my love for this franchise. Not since FFVIII was i more engaged in the story and character development of all the main characters.

I do wish you went into the other party member's combat systems rather than kinda glossed over them. They each have interesting systems for combat, even though the base game is designed around Noctis. I'm not sure if you picked up Armiger Unleashed, but it's the best upgrade to the combat. And going into the Royal Arms and their main drawback might've been intriguing to some people, especially since they're all unique weapons that give huge stat boosts or interesting side effects.
