A couple good changes here like the LOD and some of the shadow work and thats noticeable.
But the game creaks with age in some places.

Sir Galahad wowzers that sucks it is one of the greatest series ever made you have a right to your own opinion but I urge you to try at least AC II , Black Flag or the new Origins title which is a Witcher 3 like game. The historical characters and locations are awesome. Good luck Mate 👍

My oh my, how I HATE the Abstergo parts of these games. But that never prevented this series from becoming my favorite.
I would have recommended a buy if you've never played it before, but if you have played it before then wait for a sale.

They gave away black flag for free on Uplay and i played it but the ship gameplay part bored me too much and i stopped

This game pretty much IS Black Flag as far as ship gameplay goes. The only difference is that it's set in the northern-ish US coast instead of the Caribbean.
Play Black Flag with all the HUD features except updates and ssi off.
You won't regret it.
This was actually my favourite assassins creed game, loads of fun and actually unique.
One of my favorite games in the series.
The "age old combat" is something I prefer. I always liked the AC combat system and as I'm now playing origins I hate the new hit box free swing system its very clunky and no where near as good as other titles like the witcher that use similar combat. Since AC black flag is my favorite AC title and I missed out on Rouge because I had a Ps4 I think $30 is a fair price and I'm excited to play it
MOPPY922 Im surprised this is the minority opinion. I haven’t gave AC Origins the light of day largely due to the new combat style. Obviously they made the right choice as the game was a financial success, but I’m salty about it xp
Edit: Looking at the combat again, it doesn’t look as flaily as I remembered it. Looks pretty alright, just not as rhythmic as previous entries. Might have to give it a go once a good enough a sale goes up.
I'm with you. I missed this one. Can't remember why. I might get it. I put ten hours into origin, and for me it just feels like a different game to the old acs, and haven't played it since. I might have to give this a go for my classic assassins creed itch.
I prefer the old style or something else the new system is ridiculous with the levels and stabbing someone 85 times because they are a higher level. It really immersion breaking, where as AC 2 1-2 hits and their dead, i used to love using the hidden blades only because the counter had a smaller window but it was an instant kill.
...You do realize there is a skill for automatically looting enemies after melee or stealth combat, right?
The Stoaway: High level enemies are in Syndicate too, so that's not new.
Long Story short, if you Loved Blag Flag you're going to like Rogue a lot and if you didn't then stay away.

Glad to see this game finally getting its due. I picked it up on PC shortly after it released, but it was buggy to the point of unplayable. I went back to it a year later and the bugs were fixed, leaving a very enjoyable AC game. It has the tight controls and insanely fun ship to ship combat of Black Flag.. and I mean exactly like Black Flag. Aside from some era-specific mechanics, the ship combat is exactly like Black Flag. Very interesting story, albeit with some rather distressing plot elements. Sad to see some familiar faces die by a traitor's blade.
Very solid AC game with all the fun and flaws of most AC games. Not as good as Black Flag, but well worth picking up if you're a fan of Black Flag.
I have a hard time playing old AC games now that I've played Origins the games mechanics are just so damn smooth
Well you know they're still great games you know? Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 don't stop being classics just because The Phantom Pain plays better.

Yeah, same here. I have to admit though, Rogue had a better storyline compared to Origins.
i really wanted to play ac brotherhood because of the story the assassin recruits and the character but i never got used to the controls
i started playing with black flag first so i kinda messed the chronological order up
This is my favorite Assassin's Creed of all time, and the only one I've ever bothered to platinum. Too bad it's not a physical release in North America otherwise I'd be tempted to buy it again.
I really hate the collectibles and locations that are pointless, i could have rathered more secondary missions since i was enjoying the campaign, i even thought of it as my favourite

Hey, ACG, I would like to know what effects and textures are changed from the PC version, as you mentioned...
Almost all videos I can find with comparisons show that PC (Max) and the remaster are virtually identical, with the consoles locked at 30fps without ambient occlusion.
The draw distance seems better in some sections, but users said you can tweak it with a .ini file change.

in the ub play store you can buy Arno's outfit for Shay in ac rogue am going to buy it and wear it at the end of the game in the end of the game you kill Arno's dad so that means Arno wears the outfit of the guy who kills his dad

The best part of rogue is the Morrigan. You might not realize until you play rogue and black flag back to back, but the Morrigan is much smaller and more nimble than the Jackdaw. I wish blackflag would’ve let you choose your ship type

This might be kind of irrelevant. But I think Assassin's Creed 1 deserves a remake.
Connor is still the best assassin in terms of combat. He can take out a whole town of soldiers while surrounded without breaking a sweat.
came to youtube looking for your old review of rogue, and was delighted to find you already reviewed the remastered version. enjoyed the review... especially getting a little chuckle each time you said "black flague" haha... and will take your advice. too many other full-price AAA titles on the not-so-distant horizon, i.e. Far Cry 5 and God of War, to get this, right now, anyway. keep up the stellar storytellin'! peace out.
I remember when this game was (kind of) a consolation price for those who didn't jump to the new generation fast enough. And i really didn't care, it was better than i expected.
I love the highly detailed and immersive worlds of the Assassin's Creed games but there's just far too much busy work in the gameplay.

I want a remaster of ac4 so bad. New graphics maybe a few new quests and some new weapons and skins and possibly even a new part to the campaign. That would be amazing considering ac4 is already a beast game

Thanks for the review Karak. I'm getting pretty sick of all the remasters lately. Is it that hard to come up with new games with new IP's? Seems like the gaming industry has gotten lazier. Games are being released half finished (kingdom come deliverance), $10 save slots (you know what game I'm taking about) and micro transactions galore. I'd much rather play a new, fresh game than a game I played before with updated graphics/texture, but that's just me.
For games like this that released at a bad time, I'm grateful for remasters.
THEKINGSLAPPA I mean they just came out with Origins as well as two major expansions for it and more than likely have more new projects to reveal in about a month or two so is one remaster in between really all that bad? It's a chance for those who didn't play it before to finally play it and if some people wanna get it again that's also their prerogative. This game just personally doesn't interest me and didn't interest me when it originally released either but I don't mind it either way and just ignore it. That's just me though.

I enjoyed rogue due to the fact that it was my 1st assassin creed game within the series. What drawn me was the sorry and the fact that you can be an assassin and a templar made it more intriguing the 1st time so I got it and enjoyed it so I'll definitely get it again

This game was like Black flag 1.5 for me. It is my favorite in the series. I like being "the bad guy" anyways so that probably has something to do with it.

While it didn't received an upgrade in graphics, the PC version is still the better version because it runs at 60 FPS.

FackeddTV: Funny thing is you've played games at 30 fps much longer than you've been playing them in 60 fps. 60 fps is nice, but it's not even close to necessary in single player games.
It both ran and looked much worse than Black Flag for me.
Played this just over a year ago on PS3, thought it was really great. But after Origins I can't imagine going back to the old shit combat now
I'd buy a remaster for PC. Bought it when it came out and the technical/graphic limitations put me off, more so because my Witcher playtime was hitting its peak at about that time.

Though admittedly not as big a remaster as I was hoping for, my PC no longer works so I'm glad Ubisoft decided to rerelease this.

I like AC games, but never get all the feathers or whatever....there are too damn many, and the reward for getting them is never worth it. Mostly just a checkbox for completionists. I do all the missions and side quests, but only grab a collectible if its in front of me.

It's a shame though for the lack of 60fps. As for the soundtrack, I always had an issue with it, I didn't like how they re-used some of Jesper Kyd's work.

If you never played Rogue this is especially worth it. It's quite a visual improvement over last gen. It's basically a better Rogue with a better story and the continuation of the modern Day Storyline from Black Flag.
I’d say it’s worth it.I played my friend’s Xbox 360 copy when it first came out originally and then I bought a copy for my ps3 when the price dropped because I liked it.I just didn’t get to finish it because that’s when I also got into next gen and was distracted by that mostly.But yeah,definitely worth a try and it doesn’t cost much now.

They already did a serious remaster when they ported Liberation from Vita for PC/X360/PC.
bigmanolo26 AC1 needs a remake, not a remaster. They need to make Altair’s story the center of a massive modern open world game ala’ Origins or Odyssey.

For me, because of the actual going-rogue-story, this gotta be one of the best AC titles! It has all the good parts of 3 and Black Flag and a very good "Assassin's actually are the bad guys" vibe. Really well done game!
Guess I got a pretty bad ass deal, cyber Monday did a 6 Assassin's Creed's for $60. Black flag, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, Origins, and Odyssey.

They’re defiantly planning a big release for that and AC1. They’re pumping out all the rest first, and then put those out . AC4 as well

Assassin's Creed Rogue is like the younger brother that's not as cool as his older and more popular sibling. Assassin's Creed Rogue is an enjoyable experience. However, it's not as good as Black Flag though. I'm sure that lot of people are getting sick and tired of HD remasters and HD remakes. On the plus side, they give people who missed out on the original releases by playing them with updated visuals, a higher frame rate, a higher resolution and even additional content. I plan on importing the physical copy for the ps4, anybody know if your Ubi-Soft Club unit points work on other region versions of the same game? Or are the points region specific?
Rogue's "digital-only" U.S. release may require an online purchase in order to add a physical copy to my collection. The 3rd entry in Ubisoft's Assassins Creed trilogy-format is often overlooked or disregarded. Likewise, I suspect the next A.C. game released to follow Odyssey and Origins will be one that leaves the majority of pampered critics to declare how the A.C. formula is once again "tired and uninspired." A.C. III was unique and relevant. Rogue was equally relevant, as well as showcasing gameplay that promised a bright future for this successful franchise. Origins and Odyssey have allowed Ubisoft to finally venture into sacred territory that had been previously only occupied by the elite likes of a precious few familiar franchises. From now on, Fallout, Skyrim, The Witcher, and Mass Effect will likely need to contend with the hat (hood) that Ubisoft has thrown into the "open-world" ring. And though I do sincerely miss the days of flipping up my hood to casually disappear into a whispering crowd, I can't say that I'm unimpressed with the direction the series has been steering as of late.
A wise gamer knows how to divide his/her efforts, and that is precisely what I'm going to do.
I'll binge a few seasons of Spartacus, then play a few hours (or days) of Odyssey.
And when I crave the good old days of wrist-blades and betrayal, I'll be sure to set sail in Rogue . . .

I really want this game but I'm not 100% since he said the game is kind of short. If I do all the side missions and main quests, is it still only 12 hours long?
I'm still waiting to see the culmination of the Assassins Creed series (when it's fully brought to modern day as that's where it starts). The series is based during/around historical events (historical fiction), but the reason we are seeing it as the player is due to the technology that allows it.
OhMan ThatGuy I would love it if they dropped the real world story completely and entirely focus on history. As soon as they go completely over to real world this series will bomb and they know it.
Just finished it today, after the boring ass gameplay of Origins going back to this was a breath of fresh air. Story was pretty interesting and a must for any fan of the series.

Hey, thanks for posting this. I'm not sure how I missed it, but I didn't even know they were doing a remaster of rogue, so it was a nice surprise when I saw your review last night.
Spent most of the afternoon playing it on PS4 pro, and from what I've seen so far; Ubisoft did a really good job on this one. It's a huge improvement over the original.
Now if they'd just hurry up and put out remasters of AC (especially since they never did add trophies to the ps3 version), and AC3 which was a bit too ambitious for last gen hardware, the entire series would be updated and available on xbone and ps4. Although, I guess "updated" isn't a word id use for the Ezio collection.
The 360 version is playable on Xone.I would buy it for Ps4.

Can someone tell me if this is worth getting? I never finished black flag because there were too many ship segments, and I never got this because by the time it came out i had a PS4. But I was interested when I first heard about it back then
I loved rogue but got it on 360 and currently on curse of the pharoahs and subnautica so no rush to get it. I would only get it to replace my 360 copy so no need to get it right away
I like your reviews but i really do think a little bit more technical details would help my purchase decision. As an owner of an Xbox one and a PC, i'm still not sure which version would be better for me. I prefer a smoother 60 fps, but i don't want to sacrifice too much graphically, although i don't have a 4k screen so super high resolution textures wouldn't make much difference to me.

Wait a minute, I don't remember people liking this game so much in the past, so why the remaster??!!!, Just like resident evil 6 and 5, No one asked for them, and yet they remastered them anyway??!!!, what the hell??!!
I swear I remember people hating on AC Rogue to the point where I said: come on, give it a chance. It was one of the games that absolutely ran under the radar after being noticed, and no on talked about it since then.

Assassins Creed Rogue is a nice game, but it feels more like a DLC for me. It is the only game that asks himself, is it right what i´m doing, or may the other side be right.

Big 3/lib/BF fan, never played this. Saw it new 20$ at gamestop just days before I realized it's comijng on ps4. Gonna get it. Can't wait to explore the world. Looks like they took some unity models of building and wrapped ac3 textures around them lol particularly those multiangle roofs that you can inexplicably run up.
If you love 3 and IV, you're going to adore Rogue.
I hope this means we'll be getting another Templar-focused Assassin's Creed game. I don't see any other reason why they would remaster it.

I found the story to be really weak. In older games the templars only shout evil stuff at their evil henchman while the assassins are nice but always on the losing side now the Assassins suddenly have evil henchman and criminals and plans to use poison gas. While the templars are always nice and outnumbered.
Also the motives for switching side were never ideologically but simply that Shay thinks the Assassins caused the disaster at Barcelona and happens to gets saved by the Templar. Playing this game never made me feel like a templar and never game me a better understanding of their ideologically.
Gummihals its trying to show that from the perspectives of the Templars they are the GOOD AND RIGHT side. It also shows that assassins are not saints and that there are two sides to a story
Shay thinks the Assassins shouldn't be messing with things they don't.
not really true, in AC 1 the templars were more complex, you always wondered after an assasination, "was it a right to kill him?" And after all, the grand master of the assasins, al-mualim, was a traitor himself.

Am I the only person who drops the brightness in every Assassins creed game? The default is always set way too high, and it makes the games look worse. It's crazy how few people never even look at video settings when they play a game. If you got an Assassins Creed game right now go ahead and drop the brightness by 2, you'll see the game looks noticeably better.
Rouge is the most underrated AC game, it's better than AC4 as it has a better story with better characters and the world is better built, even though I think it's a little smaller, yet people don't realize it. To me the number 1 best AC game is a tie between AC2 and Rogue.
I would have preferred a complete remake of assassin creed 1

I’d really buy this. Syndicate and Origins were complete disappointments and I’d be happy to go back to something that actually feels like Assassin’s Creed. But that damned boat! It prevented me from finishing Black Flag. I’m not sure if I should pay for another game that I wouldn’t finish.
Am I mistaken or the Pro/XBOX can't do 4K 60fps because of the HDMI? Don't they need a Displayport (which they don't have) to manage all of that data? I could be wrong, I don't remember well...

The game is great! but there could of been more things they could of added into the game.

graphics are better ! and ways of exploration is amazing and huge! side missions are massive! much larger then the main missions so do whatever you can doing side missions it's way worth the deal.

Can you make a video about 30 FPS and 60 FPS.
I think people are confused about this it's a shame people would not play
because it's 30 FPS. I have to lock Origins to 30 FPS to stop stuttering and it's fine. I am glad I experienced it. Also you have to lock Skyrim to 60 because of the physics is tied to FPS maybe this was the same with Rogue since it was 360 and PS3.
Games like this can never hit 60fps on either a PS4 pro or XboneX on any resolution beacause the weak AMD Jaguar 2013 tech level CPU (APU) just does not allow this. Complaining and whining about this is like buying a VW Beetle and complaining it won't hit 250 Mph. Pretty fucking stupid. Consoles need to be affordable or else nobody will buy them. Maybe next gen. When a 30fps framerate is stable and frametimes are consistent, with a little motion blurr 30fps is more than playable. Most morons just don't get it, just like most PC players do not know how to set up the grapics in the graphics options menu.
