Very cool video, and awesome to see this perspective, especially since We were on that train! I’m surprised there’s very little talking between the engineer and fireman. I can’t wait to get back to Cass, it’s my all time favorite place!
They really were just talking when they were stopped the engine. It was a real interesting experience. Cass is my favorite place as well! Gotta love the Shays!
I love Pocahontas County in the spring. Went to Dilly's Mill at the Buckskin Council Scout Reservation 9 years in a row...from the mid 70's to early 80's.
@@cassscenicproductions8888 I'm from Kanawha County, but have spent a lot of summers there. Also handled Pocahontas, Nicholas and Webster County's for 2 years when I worked for Nationwide Insurance. So I know it well.
Phenomenal footage of Cass Seth! This operation is on my bucket list of film collection! Also, magnificent whistle on #11 did the crew ever tell you what it was? It sounds/looks like a weird cutdown reading 6 with no full flat top bell cover. It seems to be also lacking a chime.
Does anyone know what the story is with that rod locomotive by the water tower? Is it being restored to work at Cass along the river or is it there for another reason?
Thanks for your comment! That rod engine was originally Buffalo Gauley 4. Later in its life it was sold to a museum in North Carolina. Then it made its way to Cass WV on a flatbed. Currently there is funding for Buffalo Gauley 4 to be operational again. It requires a new boiler which is being made in Sistersville Wv. Once its in operation it will be running from Cass to Durbin along the Greenbrier line.
@@cassscenicproductions8888 that's great! I love the geared locomotives but haveing a rod engine at Cass will be nice. People can now see the difference between rod and gear locomotives next to each other! New question, what is going to happen to the 2 truck climax? They already have No. 9, will the other climax be retired or sent to another railroad?
Ex Buffalo Creek & Gauley R.R. No. 4. A old West Virginia shortline a few hollers over from Cass. Eventually "they" would love to restore the 2-8-0 back to operation. When the have the "time" and resources.....
@@cassscenicproductions8888 Nice to see that Sisterville Tank Works got the nod to build another boiler for you guys. They built the new boiler for Cass No. 6 years ago.

Thank You! It's definitely a 6 chime. I'm not sure what it is though. Next time I go up there I'll be sure to ask Chris the engineer.
The whistle is a Homemade 6 Chime.
@@cassscenicproductions8888 Wow sounds like a Reading 6 chime with more tonal uniqueness

@@jacobramsey7624 That's a great question. When ever WM Shay 6 gets out of the shop. I heard that there going to work on her. But I'm not sure.
