I blame those cooking shows. It takes about a half-hour to stack a cheeseburger with all those toppings.
This weekend I forego the cheeseburger for a bbq beef smoked brisket sandwich with pepper jack cheese. While eating this wonderful creation, all I could think about is how the cheeseburger just became obsolete in my life. Bye bye cheeseburger, my next creation will be a bbq beef smoked brisket sandwich with smoked gouda cheese.

A double meat..double cheese..bacon( lots of it and crunchy)..lettuce..
.pickles.onions..mustard..(no ketchup)..and buns toasted or fried in the grease of the meat!! No sticky or gooey buns please!! Wrap it up in that wax looking paper and stick a big toothpick through the top of that "Beast"!!! Put it in a brown bag and run to your vehicle before the grease starts seeping through!! Oh and buy 2 or 3 they stay nice and hot until you get home!!! And get some extra ketchup for your salad( French fries or tator tots!!!) Oh boy!!:)

Any fruit (with the exception of tomato and avocado) (yes they are fruits) is strictly forbidden from being on a cheeseburger. Period.
Agree - over topping a cheeseburger so that it is no longer hand-holdable makes it no longer a burger / sandwich. 🤯😩

Plant based patties can be quite good. My son eats vegan, so I have tried a few.

As a kid, my dad was in the military, so we traveled a lot. I was finicky about eating eggs and all I wanted for breakfast, any place we went, was a cheeseburger, however my parents were convinced that a cheeseburger was inappropriate breakfast material, so I had to force myself to eat eggs. Many years later my mother read a Dear Abby article that was similar to my story. Abby told the mother that burgers were composed of foods from all the basic food groups and that it was okay. All the years of suffering, choking down the wrong breakfast for my likes were over. For the past eleven years though, I'm still a cheeseburger eater, however I always buy the right spices to enhance the taste of my vegan burger! You can't even tell the difference! Great topic, Gaffigan!
You need to go to Altas Horas on Ferry Street in the Ironbound, they put all manner of deliciousness on those burgers and they are heaven. Cheap too, well by NYC standards anyway.

I once tried a cheeseburger that was topped with mashed potatoes. It was good, but I couldn't eat it with my hands because it was so messy. Instead, I had to use a fork and knife. 😑

I have always preferred hamburgers over cheeseburgers. I love cheese but I do not care for it over a beef patty. Cheese is too fancy for me here. All I need on my hamburger is ketchup. ❤️
The most delicious burger I've ever eaten had a runny delicious fried egg and jalapenos and bacon on it. I'm sure that avacados would have only made it more magical.

We, by messing with a good thing, are, consequently, making a mess of ourselves. You can't take a bath! Hay, what about blow dryers in public restrooms? Now we have to blow all those exotic condiments all over our clothes.
Burgers can be a guilty pleasure in this day and age. Somehow, it's how McDonald's and Burger King is well known, too. What makes America America, is not based off of burgers, it's really the people in it and that create these certain inventions that turn out to be delicious, but sometimes addicting and fattening. I know everybody loves how they eat those things and such, but sometimes it can be eyebrow-raising, unless there's a certain reason involved. I remember watching "The Twilight Zone Movie's Third Segment" with Anthony admitting that peanut butter is what he puts on his burger, since he feels that "it's good that way", during the point in the segment where it's actually a birthday dinner with his family. I thought it was weird myself, but I didn't think I'd go off and judge his topping. There are certain styles and personal features that people have, when it comes to what they like to eat and such. That's how it all goes. We do need to be careful on how and when we eat burgers, these days. I mean, who eats it in a bathtub? Not me, I tell you. That's how I see it, Gaffigan.
