Lyrics:
Hey girl, I want you to know
I'm gonna miss you so much if you go
And hey girl, I tell you no lie
Something deep inside of me's going to die
If you say so long, if this is goodbye

no crazy costume,no fireworks,no big stage,no big screen only some musicians and a song ,the best thing on earth

❤ Billy Joels version of this song ❤️ 2024 still listening
I think Billy Joel’s version is better than the original!!
There is such passion, God such a delicious man .
Me too!
I agree and like him when he’s tapping keys.
Na, Freddie's voice is much more suited to the song and he shows more expression. This song is for a black soul singer, sorry I don't make the rules
I still think that Billy does a good job with it. Is it as good as the original. Probably not.
Billy Joel knocked this song out of the park ❤
From a 72 year old female, the best rendition ever!!!
I have to agree this is one of Billy's greatest vocals.
What an AMAZING performance!! He sang it better than the original singer, in my opinion. This song has been forgotten for ages, no one ever sings it anymore. Beautiful memories of my youth. Thank you for sharing….
THIS VERSION OF THIS SONG
FROM BILLY JOEL
WAS MADE TO PERFECTION
Carole King wrote this song about 60 years ago and nobody has ever performed it as well as Billy.... it's as if he takes his time with it and puts all of his heart and soul into the song...wow, what a rendition! his backup singer and the band are awesome too ... I never get tired of hearing this, it is stuck in my head..
ruclips.net/video/czsbKPd5nMI/видео.html
Try this version of Hey Girl by Will Downing. Then try the live version by Michael McDonald.
Well, I love Billy's rendition -- but I feel the initial release by Freddie Scott is still #1.... and charted Top 10 in 1963.
Well, I mostly agree. It’s fantastic, but Freddie Scott’s 1963?? version was also amazing .
Carol King is the GOAT did not know she wrote this
I'm glad you mentioned that.
I originally thought I heard this was a Leonard Cohen song.
I love listening the girls voice in the background. She deserves a lot of credit for the song also. The people in the background never gets the credit to make someone else's sound better.
100% agree. She is stunning.
@@jennymacallan9071 Ditto, she's very good with vocals and expression, she adds
This cover proves that Billie is a serious vocalist. He can really sing !!!!
This version gives me the chills, true masterpiece
Billy Joel truly expresses the lyrics.
Me too
Billy Joel’s greatest vocal rendition…ever. Backed by a team of superb musicians, Joel delivers a performance that is soulful, powerful and one that conveys the heartfelt agony of a man in the throes of a gut-wrenching breakup. Doesn’t get any better than this.
Was he in a break up? We love you @BillyJoel.. This is awesome!
No one sings this song like the legendary Michael McDonald
@@bryangarten oh my. You may not ever see this. THIS song brings me comfort that is immeasurable.
I lost my Darling cat in January. ... And I have replayed this hundreds of times remembering the feeling of her sweet self crawling into my body as the euthanasia drugs took her awar from me. Heart. Breaking.
It really does speak to you doesnt it?
Leave a Tender Moment Alone is Billy's best vocal, followed closely by An Innocent Man, The Night Is Still Young, This Night and When in Rome in no particular order.
Only Billy Joel could take a 50 year old song and make it soulful. And sound so brand new, got to love this man !😍
It was only 25 years old when he recorded this, but your sentiment is still spot on!
Love love this song...Billy joel...wonderful job...❤❤❤👏👏
100 percent agree!!!
My God, that means I was 18, oh well, loved it then and still do!
Sounds so good from one of the greatest performers bar none
Billy Joel has so much soul and is equal to the original! Wow!
No fanfare and disruptive video production. Pure raw talent with every voice and instrument. Perfection.
Every time I hear this, I am blown away by Billy's passion. This is one of his greatest vocal performances. My soul feels every word. Best cover performed by one of the musical geniuses of our time.
+KathleenZzz Soul is the operative word. This is a chilling rendition of a classic. Remove "one of" before his, and I fully agree.
Gives me chills every time I watch it!
Could not have said this any better than you Kathleen!!!
Even his movements during this recording. Soulful, looks like he was caught in the moment. Love, love this version.
Oh my goodness!! Magic!! I can’t stop listening!!
Hi all. My name is John Martelli Freddie Scotts partner. Freddie was the first to record this song and had the biggest hit with it, Since then it has been recorded by nearly a hundred different artists. Although Freddie did a superb job vocally the recordings at that time and especially on this cut were really primitive and sub par compared to todays standards. Just Saying Its heartbreaking to me that there is not much mention of Freddie on this thread. It is very clear to me that Mr Joel took much time to study Freddies style and came very close to Freddie on his interpretation. No one else came close to capturing Freddies unique style. Billy Joel crushed it. Freddie was honored that Billy covered it and loved his version. Rest in Peace my best friend Freddie Scott
🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜
Thanks for producing this fabulous soulful song. It's an earworm that I can tolerate for a while. Love it.
GREAT song!
@atminteractive John, your version IS ALSO fabulous! ruclips.net/video/HpDUTtAqBcI/видео.html
Thank you John Martelli!💯
Just a beautiful rendition of an old song by a very talented singer.. MY OPINION
This is the best version of Hey Girl EVER PERIOD.
Totally agree with you !!!
Damn right!!!
Brings me to tears every time.
And I’m out shopping!!!
yes yrs ago i know BJ live show was awesome. very good! pianist.
👍❤
THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST OF BILLY JOEL. HE SINGS THIS SONG WITH SO MUCH FEELING AND JUST AND JUST THE WAY HE MOVES YOU CAN TELL HE IS REALLY INTO THIS SONG
I totally agree 🎼I recall the original version (I am old) and I think Billy had put this song on a whole NEW level 🎵🎼🎶❤️
This song is very sexy and favolous😍
I can't just listen to this l once. I play it over and over until I just literally have to make myself stop but I really don't want to. Billy Joel sings this with such passion it feels like he is singing directly to a specific person. Sensational!
This is Billy absolutely killing it . Such a great soulful vocal performance. The fact that he has the great Felix Cavaliere on B3 , who has one of the greatest voices ever, had to inspire Billy also . A masterpiece for sure !!!
Absolutely correct about Felix Cavaliere!!!
Felix Cavaliere from the Young Rascals! 👏🏻
this is probably the best EVER from Billy Joel. Even better than the original by Freddie Scott.
Excellent rendition of Freddie Scott's "Hey Girl". Billy Joel nailed it, along with his back up singers and musicians!
This is the best version of "Hey Girl" that I have ever heard. AMAZING performance! Thank you Billy Joel.
Written by the legendary songwriting team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King.
I agree ..
The natural emotional quality from Freddie Scott cannot be matched by this polished up job by b joel...you all need to sit down , unwind, and enjoy the trueness of Freddie Scott's ' hey girl' along with the immaculate tenderness of the female voices who backed him up!!
TOTALLY AGREE
@@evanpayson9692Freddie had The Cookies as his back up vocals.
I know this is a cover. But Billy is making it his own ❤
Often the cover of a song is better than the original. This is a great example.
Yes it is I honestly love Billy Joel ❤
Wow...this song is perfect...vocals, sax, piano and Billy"s rendition is spectacular from the heart.I could listen to him sing this all day, every day!!!!
I fo listen to thus sing Every day, it brings me Joy!!
his version really highlights his great voice but still prefer George Benson's version by a nose.
Me too, and I do.
To me his all time BEST! never knew why he didnt release it back in the 80s, lm sure it would have been a smash hit No #1 for sure!!
Original by Freddie Scott
This might be a cover but Billy makes it his own
The best cover ever. I was never a huge fan of Billy Joel but this song blows me away every single time I play it. Never gets old.
Exactly
Try Michael McDonald.
Billy joel is literally the best
Me too! I knew this song from Donny Osmond and loved it sooo much. The original never got near donny's version for me. But i was blown away when i heard this only a year or two ago. This has surpassed my fav song of my teen idol.
@Robert Sorry but Michael McDonald's is awful.
Just discovered this version by Billy Joel and it's so beautiful.
I can't begin to describe how much I love this song. Such perfect vocals. The day I first heard it, I put it on repeat. I haven't heard it in a while but it popped up on a radio station last week. Here I am on repeat again. Yesterday I woke up with it in my head. What a great way to wake up!
I agree. I have been singing it to Carrie Underwood
I agree this is fantastic!!!
This version of an old classic is incredible....one of Billy's best EVER 🎶🎶❤️
The best cover of this song Period! (Including the original)
Covered this in 1997?! And I just heard it on Sirius XM for the first time today. OBSESSED!!! Best cover of this song.
Billy, never singing more from the heart than this magnificent piece of music and Felix Cavaliere offering a superb touch on the Hammond! One can never tire of this type of presentation. Some of the best I’ve had the privilege to hear!
Thank you. I thought that was Felix.
@@lizmcdanielooo You are very welcome. If you are a Rascals fan, you may want to check out Stevie Van Zandt’s theatrical production of “Once Upon A Dream”. It offers a retrospective of the band with original members. 😊
Lordy, this is the absolute best, soulful rendition of this song I've ever heard! Love it@
Few songs bring on the chills like this one. I can’t believe it was the first time I heard it today. Can’t stop listening to him.
Hey girl, don't go away.....but, she did. Lung cancer took her away from me and my son....I still miss her.....this song reminds me of my loss, but a beautiful rendiniton by Billy.........
Definitely his best moment. Just love it!
Love this song, can listen to it over and over Love Billy Joel voice. Sings it with so much feeling. The best song ever.
Never a great fan of Billy Joel, don't know why, he just never got to me until I heard this version as a background song on a repeat episode of "Bull" on TV a few weeks ago. His version is so beautifully crafted and delivered and he sings it like a man, not a lovesick schoolboy! Get out from behind the piano more often Mr Joel, it has restricted you far more than you may realise.
Billy knocks it out of the park with this old Freddie Scott AM radio gem. Whether it be his own or a remake, one of Billy's finest recorded moments.
Killing it!!! 💜
Thank you Billy Joel for perfection🥰
@@tuggiethepatriotpup3071this song touches my heart the way he sings it .
So fantastic!
Is there any limit to this man's the talent
Listening to this song only makes me think we have missed by Billy Joel recording more music, plus more covers. I would do anything for a Billy Joel cover album!
I need to listen to this several times a day, Billy did the BEST cover I've ever heard of a song ...the man definitely has soul ~ 💜💖💜
Paul Varisco & the milestones version is incredible too!
My Personal Favorite ❤ Was Fortunate To Watch Him Perform 🎭 This 😂❤😮
Thank you 😊
The beauty and musicality in this song is just amazing.
Billy Joel brought such emotion.
Just sublime.
Love love Billy Joel’s version of “Hey Girl”. He totally knocked it out! I constantly listen to it. Thank you Billy ❤️
I keep coming back. Probably the best version of" Hey Girl" I have heard.
I agree, absolutely.
Here in 2017, and back again in 2018.
Michele McDonald has a good one
Absolutely!
this is SUPERB !!!!! Perfect on many levels !!
Here in April 2020 and it still gives me chills!
2:15 in the morning; should be going to bed, but CAN NOT STOP listening to this, now the 8th time! Perfect blend of lyrics, lead singer and backup music. Billy at his incomparable BEST!!
I can't stop listening to this!!! It is the most amazing rendition of this song ever, and with Billy Joel giving it his everything - I'm having the biggest major "Voice Crush" over and over again!!!
Dang Billy! Freddie would be proud of you. This is one of my favorites and you did it well.👏🏽👏🏽
Billy was really feeling this song!
It just does not get any better than this. No gimmicks, just musicians and their instruments and a great performance.
Awesome! I can't stop watching this!
Agreed - Perfect
Exactly simple just beautiful with a 60 s vibe
cant beat billys cover of tis great song
this sorry
Billy, the musicians, the back up singer - oh my. ❤️💙💜
To put into perspective: I remember the day perfectly in 1997 when Billy came out with this greatest hits album. I have it on both video and cassette. I was 22 years old, starting my career..The world was peaceful, people were happy and making money. The music was fantastic. Now, I'm 41. The world is on fire, people are miserable, make no money, and the music is absolutely awful. I wish I could go back. I miss those times.
Totally agree, although I wasn't born in the good times.
There is no Music or talent
well said!!! married in 1979...just the way you are wedding song....classic...the world was a better place. now, I cant even watch the news.....
Mike L
The bright side? We know the best music. We go back and listen to it, and for a moment even if brief, we can smile.. beautiful music 🎶 beautiful times and memories
Sing it Billy!🎶
In my humble opinion, this is the greatest copy of this song.
gipsie70 Michael McDonald
I've come to love his rendition more and more, at least as much as the original. And what a great, great song.
Absolutely!
Absolutely.
Even though Freddie Scott's version (which I love) was the one that was so meaningful to me as a teen during that era, this cover tops it. There are very few covers I can say that about. As if the vocals and phrasing weren't already perfect, the visual of the video just enhances the listener's/viewer's enjoyment.
WOW.... Billy Joel did an excellent cover of this song . I watched it many times and still giving me goosebumps ... the setting, the lighting , the background vocals .... it's perfection . Bravo , Mr. Joel 🎉💐❤️👏🎼🎤👑
Men just don't know how to beg like this anymore.
Sigh.
Freddie Scott would've approved of this cover. Put it down Billy, put it down!!!
Buzz Davis and this is another song written straight out of New York City's Brill building Sound by the great Carole King and her husband Barry Goffin before they split for California in the late sixties
I love this so much, and the fact that Felix from the Rascals is playing piano. SO awesome
Stephanie Paolinelli Felix is playing the organ and behind the sax player you can see the piano player. You can't see him at first, but then the camera finally hits him.
I knew I recognized Felix from somewhere!
@Stephanie Paolinelli
And... singing the background vocals is Lalah Hathaway, one of the daughters of famed Soul singer, Donny Hathaway.
This version is so moving, I’ve shed more than a ton of tears to it.
Story has it, that he was singing about the fact that he would be missing getting to see his daughter because of his pending divorce (at that time), but hey, it means what it means for each of us.
@BluesDaddy- the song was about 33 or 34 years old, so you guys can split it!
Truly, a gem!
And Felix? I spotted him instantly!
@@sonnylipton2463 Young Rascals..."Groovin'"
@@celsiusmusic1204 Really?
superb on ALL levels !!!! I am now 56 and this is THE SHIT !!! AWESOME !! + Felix on the B3 too ! Billy's most SOULFUL performance I've ever heard !! A++
Hi fellow birthday boy. (May 9 th) Blly I just love to WATCH you sing this song. You do it with such feeling. I wonder what/who was on your mind ? Jesus is Love
To bad there is not any music like this any more. Sadly I think its lost forever I cant really relate to new music.
Paul Harvey. Play it again Sam.
Paul Harvey opportunity
Well, don't worry about new music. Listen to what you have always loved. All of us from the '60's and '70's need to stop complaining about how shitty the new music is. Guess what , it's not written for us , it's written for our kids and grandkids. I've been discovering and rediscovering artists from my generation.
It's out there is just not main steam anymore. You just have to search hard. If I could recommend someone it would be John Mayor. Or maybe some of Sam smith's stuff.
Daryl hall is another gem, that fits in this era.
The absolute best version of this!!! I just love his voice on this beauty!! Loving this today 5/14/22 ♥️♥️
I love it too!
I hope Billy will perform this song at MSG. I am so emotionally moved by his cover and wish he would consider performing it in concert again and again! I love reading the 1,288 comments !!!
I think Billy Joel's version is very Best better than The original
Love this song. Beautiful orchestra, beautiful lyrics
This is to me, Billy Joel’s greatest song. He was meant to sing r n b, not be stuck behind a sad piano. He is so soulful! What a great voice for this music!
yep...his best
This rendition of Hey Girl us absolutely fantastic!!💖💖💖
It’s a cover, but still one of my favorite Billy Joel songs
Whilst I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it is his *best* vocal/performance/song, it’s definitely wonderful. For one thing I will absolutely agree with you on is how he doesn’t lose anything in his performing by not sitting behind the piano. There are so many artists that are so used to performing behind an instrument, that when they are not in that setting while performing, they seem as uncomfortable as a fish out of water(Elton John, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen come to mind). And that’s harder than it sounds. And I never really took note of it until someone else said it to me years ago. But once I started looking for it, you can see it all over the place with these kinds of artists. So the fact that Billy Joel doesn’t do that speaks to just how incredible of a performer he is.
Yes, he is a great singer, but his piano is not sad!
Fckin Perfection in every way period.
One of the rare times when a cover is so much better than the original...Billy sings this with so much feeling....sooo beautiful ~~~
Only Billy amazing
Love Billy's cover, but Freddy Scott blows it out of the water, who sang this classic originally, check it out.
Billy's cover is amazing, but Freddy Scott's original is still better, imho
June and Rosa ~ I Haft To Fully Agree with yous on this GReat cover ...
His rendition brings me to tears! My goodness. .so much feeling in his rendition..l listen to this over and over
I grew up on Freddie Scott's version, but this one is amazing.
Ditto....
Me too! And this version is much better. Slowed down and very bluesy. Amazing musicians --- I cry every time I watch this!
Freddie Scott version is magnificent an all time great song.I am a big joel fan and he does it great also
This performance makes me want to meet Mr Joel, then bow down in front of him. I'm in complete awe of this magnificent musician and his musical direction of his so very talented group.
Pure perfection, the timing, the arrangement, the sax!
The Sex ?
I love this song!! Thank you for your rendition, Mr. Joel. Have a safe and enjoyable tour.
The best rendition of this song. Fits Billy's voice perfectly
Unfortunately Billy was no longer having hits on the charts when this came out in 97. He sings the hell out of this one and if he would have released it back in the 80s this would have been a top 10 smash. They just don't make records like this in today's world.
Smokin'!! ❤❤❤
Incredible! Originally by Freddie Scott that came out in '63 when I was 16! I never thought anyone could do it better but I stand corrected! Freddie is probably very proud of Billy's rendition, looking down from heaven!
I usually don’t care for other artist covering songs, but this is definitely an exception. Great version!!
The best version for this song ever!
Billy Joel was blessed with great vocal control, Freddy Scott did a fine job on the original version, But Billy Joel took this song to a much higher level with the arrangements, sax solo, and more refined back up vocals. What a great move having Felix Cavaliere on the B-3 organ whose roots go deep into R & B. Billy Joel constantly proves he is the real thing by putting out these great tune decade after decade.
One of the most beautiful versions of this song.
Best version of this song I've ever heard! It is sung with so much passion!
BLUE EYED SOUL !
Hey Girl, I want You to Know....well written......
He is another musical genius 🎹
Billy Just tore that up! Best rendition of any song I ever heard!!
Best arrangement, too, by far. Love the orchestration.
Best song u rock billy luv u.
Billy YOU need to sit YOURSELF down. 💓💓💓💓💓 The Best Version ...EVER
Omg. His version is soulful
Top shelf
Him and the Righteous Brothers do this song well
Hey Girl
beautiful song love Billy joel
Goosebumps. This is my favorite rendition of this classic, and IMO better suited to Joel than any other song, including those he wrote. The sense of anguish he instills makes him shine here.
No one does like it like billy joel
He just doing him which is automatically a Masterpiece
Billy Joel’. . Is so awesome in this rendition of the original versi by Freddie Scott!
He nailed this like no one else! Fabulous Vocals, incredible Audio💕
I've always loved Billy.. But this is his best vocal performance by far :)
Beautifully done, Billie Joel!
This song is absolutely incredible
Mr. Joel, what a beautiful cover! Never knew you covered this, until Brian Wilson said this is one of his favorite songs. Kudos to you, sir. You knocked it out of the park!
