my dad passed away about a month ago. this was one his most favourite songs and he used to play it all the time. i went to his funeral today and this song came on, i was crying so much but at the same time i was happy that this song was chosen for it all. i will always remember him now from this song and i will most likely cry every time i hear this song come on. goodbye dad, i’ll miss you :)
I’m sorry for your loss. My dad passed two years + four months ago. He was a musician, so… the music at the funeral had to be just right. It was one of the last things we could do for him. A couple of his oldest friends in the music business played at the funeral which honestly blew me away. I’m not sure I would have been able to do that! But we were so grateful and it was exactly what he would have wanted. You might still want to cry years down the road when you hear this song - that’s sort of how it’s gone for me. But ultimately it’s for a good reason. Music is medicine for the soul❤️
I hope people finally realize what a musical genius Billy Joel is. He could play every instrument on this trak. Do all the arrangement himself. And still look cool af in a pair of raybans.
Did he really? That would be interesting. It is impressive, but you don’t have to be a genius to play all the instruments on this track, you just need basic knowledge of them all. Now writing a hit song, that’s different!
@@0311Mushroom no that's not why, even in the album it says that these are his final words. he's writing, but they're instrumental classical styles. He says that his songs are like his kids when he hears them on the radio and he roots for them. This is often played, but he's got many standards over the years.
@@pistachiosandpopcorn7146It is smooth number, a natural beat. It's hard for me to pick a favorite. Depends on the mood. I think over the years, "Just the Way You Are" has had the most air time played on the radio, along with "Piano Man" and of course his #1 still rock-n-roll was a huge smash at the time, ironically without piano accompany. Yet, there's so many more. Stinking good talent.
I never knew who sang this song...and literally would sing this song to myself for almost 30 years...feels good to be reunited finally🙏🏾 I'm 35...I was young when the song first dropped😅
See! 1993, the best year for music in the 90's. So diverse. You heard a little bit of everything. This song is undeniable. Can't be a 90's kid and not know this one.
It was definitely the best year for rap music for me, but I'd have to go back and listen to all of the top songs for that year decide for myself for all other genres.
Sorry for the lost 😔 Thank you for being a wonderful fan. I appreciate your comment. I hope you are having a good day? Thank you so much for the love and support,God bless you💕❤💕🥰💕
Through the valley of fear Through the jungle of doubt Through the mountain of truth We all end in the ocean we all start in the streams we all get carried along through the river of dreams. Goose bumps every time!
This is perhaps the greatest song of the 90's. It will be a sad day in the music industry when The Piano Man retires. An entire generation is going to grow up NOT knowing Billy Joel, and that breaks my heart. I have seen Billy 15 times in 20 years. My first concert was in Shea Stadium, and my last concert was The Last Play at Shea Stadium. Full circle. Pardon me while I go cry.
Mr Joel, I am from China and this is the first time I have watched this video, although I have been a big fan of the song previously. I have to admit - the video wasn't what I imagined it to be just listening to the song.. But to me that's the great thing about your music. I appreciate the American motifs you embed in your songs but to me the message in your lyrics transcend the American experience. I just find it fascinating that I as a native Chinese speaker, living in a totally alien culture from you, can find a connection in the words of this song
ouroboros1409 Between different cultures and countries governments cause most of the trouble. The people for the most part could get along. Just like this music.
Wonderful quote by great artist Billy Joel!!! I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we are from, everyone loves music..... 🎶💖🎶

This song was in my dream, and I had never heard it before. No words of lie, sends chills down my spine. I need to correct this, I might have heard it in a restaurant, or at the airport but it is not a type of song I listen to or listened to on regular basis.
"It could only be seen; By the eyes of the blind. In the middle of the night". "Lord knows, I've never been a spiritual man" Those two lyrics confirm his genius.
For years I've been singing this song in my head never really knowing the words or who sang it. So glad I decided to search for it it on youtube. Beautiful! I like it even more now.
What a absolute masterpiece of a song. Still coming back to this song in 2022. Brings back memories to a simpler time without all of the garbage that plagues this world in the current days.

Many of us 90s cats took the meaning of this song personal...from different backgrounds and faiths/or non faiths. Certainly a musician that reached across worlds.
A lot of this was shot in my hometown, Glastonbury, CT! The barn that he plays the piano in is in the southern part of Glastonbury and that ferry the family rides is the oldest still-operating ferry in the US (and I've been on it, crazy that they filmed a music video there too!)
Parts of it was shot in Portland ct right across from me in Middletown! If you’re ever going down route 9 across the river is the wall that says “come on over” in the video. The parts that were filmed in the church I believe is in cobalt!

River of dreams lyrics
Enjoy!
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
From the mountains of faith
To the river so deep
I must be looking for something
Something sacred I lost
But the river is wide
And it's too hard to cross
Even though I know the river is wide
I walk down every evening and I stand on the shore
I try to cross to the opposite side
So I can finally find out what I've been looking for
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the valley of fear
To a river so deep
I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I'd never lose
Something somebody stole
I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is that I've been looking for
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the jungle of doubt
To a river so deep
I know I'm searching for something
Something so undefined
That it can only be seen
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night
I'm not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That runs to the promised land
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

For some reason I thought this came out at a much later date. Only off by about 15 years. The "Piano Man", always great.
my dad passed away about a month ago. this was one his most favourite songs and he used to play it all the time. i went to his funeral today and this song came on, i was crying so much but at the same time i was happy that this song was chosen for it all. i will always remember him now from this song and i will most likely cry every time i hear this song come on. goodbye dad, i’ll miss you :)
So sorry for your loss. I'm glad your dad had a nice send off and hope you can always hear this song and smile too.
I’m so sorry for your loss but this is a Great song and singer
So sorry for your loss prayers sent great song
I'm sorry for your loss.
I've always loved billy Joel...
This song is phenomenal
I hope people finally realize what a musical genius Billy Joel is. He could play every instrument on this trak. Do all the arrangement himself. And still look cool af in a pair of raybans.
You say it like there are people that dispute this?
Everybody looks cool in a pair of RayBans
Did he really? That would be interesting. It is impressive, but you don’t have to be a genius to play all the instruments on this track, you just need basic knowledge of them all. Now writing a hit song, that’s different!
❤🎹 Rock on Piano Man-Billy, the greatest music 🎵 icon! Sheer genius. God is like oxygen you can't see Him, but you need him to survive. AMEN
One of the most spiritual songs out there. Really uplifting.
Billy isn't religious, i know :D Joel means "God is God" in Hebrew.
Judith Pachler Religion and spirituality aren't always the same thing
Honestly i'm so glad that Billy isn't religious.
It gives that positive vibe
Even over 25 years later, I think this is his best song. It was incredibly under appreciated at the time.
hey, i'm not sure i agree with you. i was a teenager at the time and i absolutely loved this tune!
@@dnrc it was underappreciated. It peaked at 3, was considered a flop. Is why he has never released a new song since .
@@0311Mushroom no that's not why, even in the album it says that these are his final words. he's writing, but they're instrumental classical styles. He says that his songs are like his kids when he hears them on the radio and he roots for them. This is often played, but he's got many standards over the years.
Tell her about it is still my fav. Best beat.
So much nostalgia... I got teary-eyed.
I never knew who sang this song...and literally would sing this song to myself for almost 30 years...feels good to be reunited finally🙏🏾 I'm 35...I was young when the song first dropped😅
One of my all-time favorites from Billy Joel!!
Same
Sensational song always good to hear .
See! 1993, the best year for music in the 90's. So diverse. You heard a little bit of everything. This song is undeniable. Can't be a 90's kid and not know this one.
True on that! Respect
Chris Tucker Thank you
Fun fact: I'm the same age as this song. blessed to be a 1993 child!
It was definitely the best year for rap music for me, but I'd have to go back and listen to all of the top songs for that year decide for myself for all other genres.
Timeless classic tail of introspection.
# 1 LYRICIST OF ALL TIME!

This song randomly popped in my head for no reason spent a few hours looking for it.
Still Loving this classic in 2024! 🫶🏼💫 Masterpiece from the man himself B Joel 🙏🏼🇳🇴
One of the biggest songs of '92/93. Played all the time on the tv back then. Man, I'm old lol
My mother just passed. I as a kid always remember her loving this song and singing when it came on the radio. Rest easy mom. Love you.
Sorry for the lost 😔 Thank you for being a wonderful fan. I appreciate your comment. I hope you are having a good day? Thank you so much for the love and support,God bless you💕❤💕🥰💕

Billy Joel - The Rtver of Dreams
Through the valley of fear
Through the jungle of doubt
Through the mountain of truth
We all end in the ocean we all start in the streams we all get carried along through the river of dreams.
No one will forget the great hilly joel
@@gardetto265 you mean Billy Joel
Mr Joel, I am from China and this is the first time I have watched this video, although I have been a big fan of the song previously.
I have to admit - the video wasn't what I imagined it to be just listening to the song.. But to me that's the great thing about your music. I appreciate the American motifs you embed in your songs but to me the message in your lyrics transcend the American experience. I just find it fascinating that I as a native Chinese speaker, living in a totally alien culture from you, can find a connection in the words of this song
That was beautifully written and reminds me of my thinking about cultures like Chinese Kenyan English Spanish etc
ouroboros1409 it was great to read your comment buddy...
ouroboros1409 Between different cultures and countries governments cause most of the trouble. The people for the most part could get along. Just like this music.
Warchief01 ..Haha that is said by war chief 01..:P
ouroboros1409 weŕe all carried along . by the river of dreams......
I think the best thing is how much fun he has. He's just living his best life and enjoying what he does
I’m facing medical procedures and so thought of this song
Thanks Billy
It's 2010. Who is here from the future enjoying great music.
Erm it's 2023 where I am haha
2024 still listening!!!!!
played overhead at our local CVS , and still remember all the words.
Wonderful quote by great artist Billy Joel!!!
I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we are from, everyone loves music.....
🎶💖🎶
Its clear that in his dreams he need God. Man can't straight his walk but God direct his steps.
I want to Specially appreciate you for being a big fan Thanks for your nice comment on my post, it means a lot to me. I want you to send me a direct message via hangouts using my personal email. Well said!. Music can either hurt or heal us on so many levels. It just depends on what we listen to.
One of the best songs he ever wrote. And there were many.
This song was in my dream, and I had never heard it before. No words of lie, sends chills down my spine. I need to correct this, I might have heard it in a restaurant, or at the airport but it is not a type of song I listen to or listened to on regular basis.
I 😊😊kid
this song got me thru some amazing hard times and i love it still
when my brother and I argued during a car ride my mom would play this song and we would shut the hell up and start dancing to the song in the car LOL
"It could only be seen;
By the eyes of the blind.
In the middle of the night".
"Lord knows, I've never been a spiritual man"
Those two lyrics confirm his genius.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My grandfathers favorite songs, he didn’t have too many. I miss you abuelo!!
awesome song!!! loving it for ever!!!
Billy Joel's most unique song
Me sale Justo cuándo la necesito y me trajo aquí un libro que menciona a Billy Joel. Estoy en proceso de un cambio importante en mi vida para acercarme más a dios, nada son casualidades ❤
A good description of life:
We all end in the ocean
All start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
I like the like the line: can only be seen by the blind.
Bruce Robinson Why ends all in the ocean?
RUclips Eddie Lovette
Q - Force maybe that's why I like the ocean so much there is something about the sea to me
Pięknie:)
Slightly intoxicated, 2.15 in the morning, billy Joel, fuck yeah
Filthy language is used by people who don't have the maturity or intelligence to express themselves
with better words.
- Nouman Ali Khan -
What an absolute banger
Many of us 90s cats took the meaning of this song personal...from different backgrounds and faiths/or non faiths. Certainly a musician that reached across worlds.
cats? tf? you mean kids
A lot of this was shot in my hometown, Glastonbury, CT! The barn that he plays the piano in is in the southern part of Glastonbury and that ferry the family rides is the oldest still-operating ferry in the US (and I've been on it, crazy that they filmed a music video there too!)
That's so cool!!
Parts of it was shot in Portland ct right across from me in Middletown! If you’re ever going down route 9 across the river is the wall that says “come on over” in the video. The parts that were filmed in the church I believe is in cobalt!
Something taken out of my soul. Something I'd never lose. Something somebody stole
it's 2023,who is still coming here to listen to this masterpiece ?
