Yeah, knowing that only Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan remain is a little sad. My Father played all of these guys on the radio or the stereo when I was growing up. And I love them like nothing else.
That's the problem with the West. We are not taught from an early age that death is our final reality. We ignore this fact and become self-absorbed with our own bullshit, devoid of empathy. Everything is about "me" mentality is so pervasive. Perhaps if we each spent more time contemplating death, we might find ourselves living more meaningful lives.
Same with so many passing recently, brings a lump to my throat when Tom Petty sings. At 80 you're outliving many who've recently left, you must be doing something right ❤️
Eight years behind you. However, I understand totally. My grandchildren mean everything to me. I've introduced the two eldest to the Travelling Wilburys. I think they get what their songs mean to me.
William, you are blessed with musical soul. Not everyone is blessed with it. These awesome guys had it and so much more. I see you at the end of the Line. Enjoy the journey.
My mom passed away today, and she requested I play this song at her funeral. She was the best mom anyone could ask for. I will never forget you, and I hope to cross paths with you again someday. Farewell mom.
Can we pause a moment to let this sink in? Tom Petty (already a world-wide star on his own), George Harrison (a freaking Beatle for God's sake, as well as successful on his own), Bob Dylan (THE Bob Dylan, troubadour for an entire generation), Roy Orbison (one of the most distinctive and original voices of foundational rock in the 1950s), Jeff Lynne (the founder and driving force behind ELO, the successor to the Beatles) - five epic-level musicians in a room recording tunes. We will NEVER see the like again.
My father would often turn to me and sternly say: "son, did you know, that there are people dying to-day who have never died before..?? He was half-kidding, but of course was right. My dad passed in 1988, at the young age of 58.
The Drummer here is a very very humble person, IMO. He hasn't been declared a true member of the Traveling Wilburys. However, he is a TRUE musician. If I recall, he said that he didn't belong among these greats. Well, sir, you DO belong. You are a humble man and a fantastic musician - take a bow sir.
I'm torn between the love and happiness of this song and feeling a little bit sad. Anybody feel the same way?? Update: Well, it's been a little over a year and I love all the thumbs up and comments. Their music lives on forever in our hearts..
Oh yeah. Same for me. Sometimes I choke up a bit during Roy's solo. He passed away about the same time my mom did, right when he was having that comeback. And now, with Tom having passed away so tragically... But they all left behind some great music.
Almost 82. I never thought I would be alive when my favorite singers where no longer with us. When I listen to this song they are still with us. Music is my favorite thing. I would not want to live with out it.
elizabeth caywood you’re 3 days closer to 82 and on RUclips commenting on your love of music. Awesome!!! So you were a teenager when Elvis made it big and rock n roll made big bands go bye bye. Great musical changes in the history of your lifetime. My dad is 82. Made me download all his Ray Coniff music onto his iPod. Hahaha!!!
@@jdhrap 82 March 18th. Yes I have seen a lot of changes in music and many other things. When I was very young I listened to all music. A radio was all we had. We would listen to the big bands too Music is still my favorite of all the things. Never in my wildest immigration did I think I would be on a cell phone listening to music with other people. My grandfather fought in WW1and I loved him with all my heart and I wish I could share how much the world has changed. He predicted we would be in wars forever when we got into W W1. I could tell him he was right & music is still my favorite thing. Music keeps me sane in a crazy world. I have 2 little Javanese doggies that sleep on my bed and listen to my music. Billy & Molly born on the same day one year apart. They love music too. Life goes in a flash so trying to slow it down. Peace and love to you and your father.
Your father has seen the changes in the world as me . Sounds like he still loves the big bands. End of the Line my favorite and I love songs like Amazing Grace. And a new song, Meant To Be. Listen to it.
elizabeth caywood Meant to Be with those country boys and the little hot blond girl? Great song. Music is awesome. I played an instrument for 15 years all thru school. It made me love and appreciate music so much. Love jazz and blues for the musicianship. But love that same musicianship in regular radio music as well. I really enjoy a well played song. But love stuff that is musically fulfilling if you know what I mean.
From the very first chord to the last, this is one of the few songs I consider to be absolutely perfect. Thirty-five years later, it is still capable of bringing tears to my eyes.
@@teresabenson3385 An elderly gentleman I encountered in my youth told me, you know when your time is nearly up when the musicians, actors and family you once knew are all gone, a sad fact that only truely resonated in my later years.

And motion to your feet! You just can't listen to this music without tapping your feet or leaping up and out onto the dance floor, which happens to be my hallway and livingroom right now!
The greatest collaboration that nobody heard of. Loved the fact they all used pseudonyms as their Wilbury characters, no ego, just a group of guys that loved making music. I have both their albums, and the "unknown" Wilbury albums that Harrison/Petty/Lynne put out around the same time with everyone else contributing to the backing vocals/instruments. Just plain old "feel good" kind of music that exemplifies what musicians can create when left to their own devices. damn I miss these guys, what legends!
Being 75 .. Watched many concerts during my young teenage years through my middle aged years. Sadly our younger generation will never experience, The Sixties and Seventies as we …. They were the best years of any generation. Love all performances by the Traveling Wilburys !!!!

Love how they pay respect to Roy Orbison with his guitar on the rocking chair while we hear his glorious voice. So sad 3 Wilburys are gone now. I'm certain we'll hear them live again in the afterlife. RIP Roy, George and Tom.
Now you stand on the street corner in Nashville or Memphis with your pants down by your ankles, screaming 😱 out at the top of your lungs something that doesn't make any sense, and some dude with gold chains around his neck pulls up in a Escalade and hands you a million dollar record contract. What's wrong with this picture 📷 🤔? All the real story tellers are gone. 😪😓😫
You are 100% correct my friend, music today all sounds the same... Basically garbage. Looked at some of the lyrics that they write....Don't know how they sell their albums honestly. Good music ended in the mid eighties with a few exceptions
John I agree I know times of changed in the industry and new generations but wouldn't it be great if the record company's today could just learn from past music production etc.. if they could produce even abit of the old school magic, it would be great for alot of us that miss it 🙂
Same here, such a rally beautiful, uplifting song. Honestly, I wasn't a fan originally of Roy Orbison, but after hearing this song and HANDLE WITH CARE at work over and over, he grew on me. His lines in this song are my favorite part of the song.
1:40 Roy comes in and NAILS IT! They all do, but seeing that rocking chair at that moment representing him, despite him just having passed away at that time, I'm glad the 4 other legends, who gave so much to my life, got to record with a music hero of theirs
John Wrobel: Got that right. They did it for fun and for OUR enjoyment. Not because they needed the dough. Their way of saying "Thanks" to everyone for embracing each of their careers. Selfless love. Character not found today.
I've seen this video several times before, but I really teared up tonight, realizing 3 of them gone. The way they remembered & paid tribute to Roy is so poignant. Great group of guys.
Hard to believe the song is 35 years old already. Hasn't become dated at all. Yes the tribute to Roy when he sings his line choked me up, too. Too bad this wasn't filmed while he was alive.
Tom Petty is my favorite musician ever. He was so humble and genuine. Look at his face when he's singing his parts. He was so honored to be in the presence of these (other) legends. When I get to the end of the line, he's one of the first spirits I'm going to seek out on the other side.
His voice is so distinct that I didn't know this was a song by a supergroup. I thought it was a tom petty song haha. Well I've done my research now and I'm in amazement.
@@jonasbeadle975 I wish Tom was still with us. I'm an old 70s rock chick and too many of my favourites have gone before their time for one reason or another.
I liked that Tom Petty stood up to record producers for artists such as Roger Mcguinn. When producers wanted to give a mediocre song to McGuinn. Petty said , no. Give McGuinn the song that matches his talent. Courage to do the right thing is intuitive, genuine care. Not to self , for all. Petty's music reflected that sentiment to me.
The class these musicians show is unforgettable. To still include Roy Orbison in the video even though he passed by the time they made this video is the perfect tribute.
♥✞♥Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen Hallelujah.♥✞♥✞♥
Is that not Roy's voice doing the lead vocals from about 1:40 to 2:02 ? It sounds like him to me. That segment starts with the picture of Roy and then we see all the others and they are singing backup, not lead. He may have passed by the time the video was recorded, but I think he was in on the audio.
The humble "tribute' they give to Roy Orbison is something great, makes this song so much more special. The 'rocking' of the chair; "Im still here with you." And that they added in his voice, to them yes, he was gone but NOT forgotten. Its amazing what can be accomplished in life when "Hearts take the lead - and ego's take a hike."
More than a supergroup, a bunch of friends with a common interest willing to contribute without ego getting in the way and have fun doing it. Each of them had so much respect for the others that they felt honored to be included.
I love how they are playing and creating music because they want to. No egos here: Just joy from being around each other and connecting through their love of music. I feel like this song is damned near perfect.
Just the fact they were willing to sing in the same song as Roy proves how egoless they were in this moment. His voice rings out like an angelic bell during his part and he totally steals the show. The ensemble is great though.
It's interesting to me, when the Beatles broke up, the one Beatle most other influential musicians seemed attracted to, and to collaborate with, was....George Harrison.

Great song! Lovely touch for Roy Orbison 😀🎤👍🎸 Tom Petty class vocals too

3 down, we all gotta go some time.👍👏👏👏

Where's the LOVE button.... Sooo much lost talent here. Sad , but grateful to have lived to know true talent!
sad on what the newer generations listen to
OH SO TRUE .... cheers & ROCK ON ....
Maybe pitch it to yt for a love button, sounds like a good idea tho
My mom passed away today, and she requested I play this song at her funeral. She was the best mom anyone could ask for. I will never forget you, and I hope to cross paths with you again someday. Farewell mom.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. :(
So sorry you lost your Mom. Bet she was a cool Mom if she requested this song. One thing for sure, she had excellent musical taste.
she will be with boys now rip
God bless you and your family.
My mom died 12-27, and this song evokes her memory for me as well.
Believe it or not. I discovered The Traveling Wilburys today. Can you imagine the shock and joy I'm feeling now?
Welcome to the party, bit late but welcome anyhoo lol
Man, you’re never too late to get on this train! Welcome aboard!
Welcome aboard! Many may have left us, but at least they left is a legacy
You must be Feeling really Good! Play it Again & Again........

That rocking chair always brings a tear to my eyes. Roy was their in spirit 🙏🏻
I’m glad Roy got to finish the game with his friends
Can we pause a moment to let this sink in? Tom Petty (already a world-wide star on his own), George Harrison (a freaking Beatle for God's sake, as well as successful on his own), Bob Dylan (THE Bob Dylan, troubadour for an entire generation), Roy Orbison (one of the most distinctive and original voices of foundational rock in the 1950s), Jeff Lynne (the founder and driving force behind ELO, the successor to the Beatles) - five epic-level musicians in a room recording tunes. We will NEVER see the like again.
Very well said! Long live Jeff Lynne and Bob!
And...Jim Keltner on drums, the best session drummer of all time.
2nd best...Hal Blaine was the best ;)
One group came close -- The Highwaymen. Willy Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. A different genre, but all giants.
Poor Line Up Really HA HA HA Everyone LEGENDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
That empty rocking chair makes me tear up. Every. Single. Time.
Sucks that three of the five are no longer with us anymore. ☹
That empty rocking chair makes me shiver and then smile. I 've been listening to Roy for sixty plus years.
Me too! What can you say? Thankful to be old enough to have been there!
My father would often turn to me and sternly say: "son, did you know, that there are people dying to-day who have never died before..?? He was half-kidding, but of course was right. My dad passed in 1988, at the young age of 58.
I miss him
@@chadoldman1143Them: Roy, George, Tom.
More talent here than in the whole music industry today!
I can’t be the only one who thinks this is one of the greatest songs ever made.
Nope
the song has special vibes, you got a good taste bro
Super!!!!!👌
I love it!
No your not on your own there bruv
That empty chair breaks my heart everytime I see it.
Thank you George, Roy and Tom for your beautiful music. Rest in peace. ❤
my generation may fade away, but it will never be here on reply forever
hear hear yes, indeed. thank you
They were true godsends to everyone...
chair isn't empty
The Drummer here is a very very humble person, IMO. He hasn't been declared a true member of the Traveling Wilburys. However, he is a TRUE musician. If I recall, he said that he didn't belong among these greats. Well, sir, you DO belong. You are a humble man and a fantastic musician - take a bow sir.

Will never have music like this again.. Amazing Classic!
That is for sure..
Yep, me too. Sometimes Roy's empty rocking chair used to choke me up a bit. Now with Tom gone too...
Yep
I saw them WHOLE live, as a kid.
@@isorokudono Buster Sidebury too?? I don't think he toured with them. Either way. Wow. cool..
Seeing Roy Orbison's guitar in the chair...... Wow!
I love this song gives me goosebumps seeing Roy's guitar and the empty chair. What a group.
Same chair and guitar features on Elo's when i was a boy video
Chazz, it's cool that they still included him, even if he passed just before they shot the video
Hallo . Diesen Song (Aufnahme mit Roy Orbison) habe ich vor einiger Zeit von DJ Nilsson reworken lassen. Reinhören lohnt. Gruß Andreas
Too many empty chair nowadays...
About as good as it gets.
I believe it is now illegal to have this much talent in one place at one time...
Probably, but it's moot -- in 2024 there isn't this much talent in the entire frickin' music industry.
Hahaha!!!
elizabeth caywood he’s 82 in February to be corrected.
RIP To some absolute legends - Only Jeff and Bob remain. Thank you all for providing decades of wonderful Music
From the very first chord to the last, this is one of the few songs I consider to be absolutely perfect. Thirty-five years later, it is still capable of bringing tears to my eyes.
I find it even more meaningful now, when 3 of them are ghosts and I'm getting closer to the "end of the line" myself.
@@teresabenson3385 An elderly gentleman I encountered in my youth told me, you know when your time is nearly up when the musicians, actors and family you once knew are all gone, a sad fact that only truely resonated in my later years.
I know what you mean, it was playing in the supermarket, what a bonus to boring shopping and I got all emotional ❤️
I know exactly what you mean. The very first time I saw this video, I started crying like a baby. I am NOT ashamed to admit that. These guys are one in a million. You don't see talent like this anymore. At least in my opinion. 💔💔💔
And motion to your feet! You just can't listen to this music without tapping your feet or leaping up and out onto the dance floor, which happens to be my hallway and livingroom right now!
Decades and decades of pure natural talent
The greatest collaboration that nobody heard of. Loved the fact they all used pseudonyms as their Wilbury characters, no ego, just a group of guys that loved making music. I have both their albums, and the "unknown" Wilbury albums that Harrison/Petty/Lynne put out around the same time with everyone else contributing to the backing vocals/instruments. Just plain old "feel good" kind of music that exemplifies what musicians can create when left to their own devices. damn I miss these guys, what legends!
@ Eloquent Sarcasm when any of these men sing it’s obvious who it is. imo
Being 75 .. Watched many concerts during my young teenage years through my middle aged years. Sadly our younger generation will never experience, The Sixties and Seventies as we …. They were the best years of any generation. Love all performances by the Traveling Wilburys !!!!
3:15 such a cool shot
The worlds first super group! Just so sad Roy went so early with his angelic voice.
Very well said my friend
Excellent summary
Now there's three empty chairs. The world is so much poorer without these folks.

There are so many empty chairs right now in television, movies, and music.
And this will continue. We're all getting older. But this song will carry on for a long, long time, I think.
Yes it is.
The way they honored Roy here is one of the most wholesome things I've ever witnessed
“It’s been getting so rough out here.”

More talent in this video than the whole industry today.. magical
You are 100% correct my friend, music today all sounds the same... Basically garbage. Looked at some of the lyrics that they write....Don't know how they sell their albums honestly. Good music ended in the mid eighties with a few exceptions
@@michaelallen3918absolutely Micheal your spot on, how the music industry evolved to what it is today is beyond me..
Very sad the generation of today didn't learn but its partly the record company executives fault just wanting the next big hit.

Same here, such a rally beautiful, uplifting song. Honestly, I wasn't a fan originally of Roy Orbison, but after hearing this song and HANDLE WITH CARE at work over and over, he grew on me. His lines in this song are my favorite part of the song.

Weren't they just! ♡
What does tearing up mean?
Crying
Hard to believe the song is 35 years old already. Hasn't become dated at all. Yes the tribute to Roy when he sings his line choked me up, too. Too bad this wasn't filmed while he was alive.
Hello How are you doing. Hope you don't mind knowing each other..
Well I've done my research now and I'm in amazement.
it's his birthday today
@@jonasbeadle975 I wish Tom was still with us. I'm an old 70s rock chick and too many of my favourites have gone before their time for one reason or another.
He was Dylan's second act when they toured, way back.....
I love it,
♥✞♥Our Father, Who art in Heaven,

but deliver us from evil.
Amen Hallelujah.♥✞♥✞♥
Also they let Jim Keltner sit in for the video as well.
The humanity and respect are humbling - nice to see!
We've just laid to rest my eldest brother this morning..so sad but it's alright..end of the line but he's with the LORD JESUS!

Well Said🙏
Roy had already recorded the song - just had not filmed the clip for it
The last line jn your piece makes me think you are reading my mind even though we don't know each other.
egos
That apostrophe needs to take a hike.
Jack Smith
- Also notice the train goes through a tunnel when Roy starts singing and lightens up when he's done...respect and sadness there.
More than a supergroup, a bunch of friends with a common interest willing to contribute without ego getting in the way and have fun doing it. Each of them had so much respect for the others that they felt honored to be included.
Right? You understand! Peace Iowa boy!
I love how they are playing and creating music because they want to. No egos here: Just joy from being around each other and connecting through their love of music. I feel like this song is damned near perfect.
Indeed!!! ❤️
Just the fact they were willing to sing in the same song as Roy proves how egoless they were in this moment. His voice rings out like an angelic bell during his part and he totally steals the show. The ensemble is great though.
